I probably haven't caught every blog post on AP sanctioning and rewards, so I'm asking here. I'm sure this is pretty straightforward. I'm just completed the first book of Age of Ashes and am completing chronicles for my group. It doesn't seem like there are level limitations for the character you apply the chronicle to, given that the gold gets calculated based on character level.

Is that correct? Is there a requirement to apply the 1-5 level AP book to 1-5 level character, or can you apply it to any level character? I think it's the latter, but that's based only on lack of evidence for the former. Anyone know for sure?

For creatures that have spells that do some damage roll plus primary casting ability modifier, what is that modifier? Is there a default stated somewhere, like divine spells always use Wisdom? Given that creatures have their own rules for their bonuses, I'm not sure I can reverse engineer the bonus from the Spell DC or Spell Attack.

I feel like the answer here is probably obvious, but I'm starting to run PFS games again and want to be sure I'm running things correctly.

Grab wrote:
Requirements The monster's last action was a success with a Strike that lists Grab in its damage entry

I'm assuming this can happen across rounds. I can't find anything that says the "last action" above has to happen in the same round. Am I correct in believing that if a creature with Grab hit on it's last action, it could Grab as it's first action on the following round? Or is there a general rule somewhere that these would have to occur in the same round?

I can't picture anyone hanging around to be grabbed, but you never know.

One creature I'm looking at is the Reefclaw. They have two claws, so would it be legit to Grab a creature, and the following round renew the Grab, Constrict, and also attack with the remaining claw?

Exalt for the Redeemer cause seems much more situational than Exalt for the Paladin or Liberator, unless I'm missing something.

For the Paladin, if an ally is damaged then every ally in range can also take a Retributive Strike. For the Liberator, if an ally is damaged then every ally in range can take the step granted.

For the Redeemer, if an ally is damaged then every ally can benefit from the resistance provided. But the resistance only applies to the triggering damage, so it seems it would only come into play for an AoE attack. That seems so much more limited than the other Champions, but I haven't played at this level yet with mine.

How does this end up working in practice? Is it something the Redeemer can use frequently, or is it significantly more rare than the others?

Scarab Sages 2/5 Venture-Agent, Oregon—Portland aka TomParker

This boon for Radiant Oath says you practice your medicine skills during downtime. Is that just time spent to activate the boon, or are you actually using Medicine for your Earn Income? I couldn't tell from reading it if you're giving up the opportunity to earn income while you activate the boon.

When completing a chronicle for someone who played a pregen, what are the options in PFS 2? Is it still just wait to reach the appropriate level, or apply it to level one?

Given the new system for calculating rewards, I was wondering if the option existed to apply it to any lower level PFS character, using the Earn Income value for that character's level.

Scarab Sages 2/5 Venture-Agent, Oregon—Portland aka TomParker

I didn’t quite understand how significant choosing the character was when purchasing boons with points. I have found that I’ve been using my experienced adventurer boon on the wrong PC, and never played the PC I selected when purchasing it.

Is there a way to get the boon assigned to the correct character? Normally I’d just deal with it, but if I use it that way I’ve got a character who’s done several scenarios at the wrong level and received higher-than-his-level gp rewards. Is this something that can be changed? I’m trying to get my chronicles cleaned up ahead of next week’s PCO.

I'm sure this is answered somewhere and I haven't been able to find it with a quick search, but my group is going to be here a just a few minutes and I can't keep looking. Apologies in advance if this is easily found.

Reactions seem to ignore the MAP, but what about a second strike in one reaction? Does MAP apply normally? I'm assuming it would but I'm not positive.

I'm trying to get clear on a couple of minor Grab things.

Grab says that it lasts until the end of the creature's next turn, during which the creature can use Grab again to extend another round. Is there still an option for the creature to release the grab early? (I'm focusing on the Bestiary creature trait here.)

Now that Grab is an action, I'm not sure there is much benefit to releasing unless whatever you grabbed with is your only attack. So can you choose to release, or is the duration of your grab fixed and it either ends or you renew it?

Also, if a creature initiates a grab, does the creature also gain the grabbed condition like PF1 had happen with grappled? I can't see anything that states a mutual grab, just the restriction that the creature cannot use the body part to Strike.

Fire of Vengeance wrote:
After casting this spell, the next creature you attack using your smite evil class ability is engulfed in holy flames that flare up when the target attacks someone other than you. If at any time during the duration of your smite evil effect the target makes an attack that does not include you, it takes 3d8 points of fire damage. Once triggered in this manner, or when your smite evil ability expires, the spell ends.

Is "triggered" referring to the attack the paladin makes to activate the holy flames, or the attack by the enemy that causes it to incur fire damage? And does this mean that Fire of Vengeance would only cause damage once?

Do any of the flip-mat B-sides have a plain grass field with a straight-ish path through it? I know we have the basic terrain maps, but those aren't quite what I'm looking for. The flip side of Bandit Outpost is close, if I could find out (or what for the classic reprint!), although a bit too wide to be a simple trail through the forest.

For one of the creatures

Spoiler:
the Bloodlash Bush, the blood siphon ability does persistent bleed damage. How much is that damage? And if they fail their save, does the plant continue to benefit from the blood every round, or does the creature need to expend another 2 actions?

This ability isn’t clear to me at all. Any help would be appreciated.

Another in the "did I miss something" series of questions.

1. You don't always get a focus point when you get a new focus ability, correct? I'm looking at a Champion who has 1 Focus Point from Lay on Hands, and took the Deity Domain which granted another focus spell. But it doesn't appear to grant another point. So it's expected that in some cases you might have more focus spells than points (not considering the 3 Focus Point limit, obviously).

2. The Refocus action has as one of the requirements that you spent at least one Focus Point since you last regained Focus Points. Since you only regain one Focus Point through Refocus, there is no way to fully refill Focus Points other than your daily preparations, right? I refocus for one, then have to spend at least one to refocus again. Are there any feats yet that allow you to gain more points while refocusing?

I'm assuming the answer is no, but wanted to confirm. A shield (other than a buckler) means that hand is occupied, and if you're holding a weapon that uses the other hand. Remove a shield strapped to you is a one-handed interact, so you couldn't do that while holding the weapon, correct? I wanted to make sure there isn't some text I missed somewhere that lets you wriggle out of your shield using the shield hand as the hand for the action.

In the published adventures so far I'm seeing a lot of opponents with the Unique trait, with no class levels listed. In PF1, I made extensive use of Hero Lab and their tactical console. Lone Wolf says that someday they'll get the tactical console implemented in HeroLab Online, but I'm wondering how difficult it's going to be to create some of these encounters in the future.

In PF1, I could almost always back into the character from the stat block and recreate the NPC in Hero Lab. In PF2, I'm not certain where I'd even start with a creature that's listed as unique with no class or level. (This is sort of moot right now, as NPC creation in HLO also isn't working yet.)

Maybe there will be rules for this sort of NPC creation in the GM Guide. I hope we don't have to rely on Lone Wolf publishing all these adventures and building each of these Unique NPCs—I don't mind paying for that content and it's been very helpful in running APs in PF1, but I am concerned that Lone Wolf is way behind on implementing even basic Core Rulebook functions and may be very slow to create AP or module content.

Has anyone seen any rules for how these Unique NPCs get built?

PF1 was explicit about when ammunition was destroyed and when it could be recovered. Ammo in PF2 doesn't have anything explicit, as far as I can tell, and doesn't have the consumable trait. So is all ammo assumed destroyed, or is there a rule I'm overlooking?

I have one player who runs around and collects shuriken after every combat. I don't really care that he picks up thrown weapons, but it did prompt the larger question about ammunition. Has anyone noticed a specific rule, or if you're a watcher of the streams has it ever come up there?

Just to confirm, does the elemental type change your bloodline spells? Like water sorcerers would basically cast "Waterball" instead of Fireball?

This feels like a dumb question. I see the line about the asterisk in the Core Rulebook and that the damage type changes, but wanted to be sure that Burning Hands is literally shooting water or air or whatever.

Here's something to put in the backlog for next year's PaizoCon. The filtering seems to have some bugs and is missing some useful criteria.

There seem to be a number of cases where the filters get dropped or reset. I saw this when I selected next or last, but I can't consistently reproduce it.

I'd like to be able to filter for PFS only, games I'm registered for, and by morning/afternoon/evening/night slots. And please, a filter for events with open slots.

My players are going to encounter a couple of previous foes. This is really tangential to the overall story—they'll fight one of the enemies, and I want the other to have gotten a tragic comeuppance. Enemy B was a dupe of enemy A. What are good options for enemy A to have done to enemy B?

This could be as simple as her having polymorphed him, and them finding a rat or other vermin in a cage in her room, and finding enemy B's gear discarded in a trunk. Or she could have somehow transformed him into something more sad and miserable. What's a decent fate?

Key objectives—this is just a minor story element, they'll like seeing the wrapping up of a loose end but shouldn't be distracted by this plot point.

For those who want more context and know the AP, spoilers below. But the specifics of the AP aren't really important.

Rise of the Runelords spoiler:
Both Lucrecia and Kaven slipped away at Fort Rannick and we never got back to that. I want Kaven to have followed Lucrecia, having nowhere else to go and still obsessing over her and feeling he's still part of her plan. She transformed or disfigured him in some way for her amusement, and took him back to Xin-Shalast with her.

One of my players, a sorcerer, has asked about being allowed to cast Permanency on his Mage Armor. I don't see this as particularly game-breaking. It's virtually permanent now, given the duration and number of encounters between rest stops, and would really just free up a first level spell slot.

Am I missing something, or would you allow it? If you did allow it, would you price it per the spell or adjust it?

I'm sure this has been covered here but I can't seem to find it.

We have rules for upgrading magic items but do the rules cover removing magical properties as well? If a player has invested in an item with the keen property, can they remove keen later (say, once they get access to Improved Critical)? Or do they need to sell the item at half value and start fresh?

And while this is intended to be a general rules question, if anyone ALSO knows whether this would be allowed in PFS please comment on that as well.

Thanks!

I'm getting ready to GM a PFS scenario for the first time. I was wondering if there was a consolidated list anywhere of the scenarios that make use of Paizo flip-mats or map packs. I have a number of these and would love to use them if I could.

I can't find any mention in the scenario descriptions (you'd think Paizo would include a link to materials you could buy to use in the scenario). Is there anywhere that lists out the available flip mats and map packs for every scenario? If not, can anyone recommend a well-reviewed scenario that uses flip mats/map packs?

A pretty basic question about wizarding:

I'm looking at familiars and concept-wise am considering familiars without much mobility. So how much am I hobbling myself by foregoing a familiar that can effectively deliver a touch attack, or a bonded item, and going with a familiar that basically just provides some skill bonuses? Any other benefits from a familiar that would essentially always be on my person?

If it makes a difference, this is a PFS character.

How does the Outflank feat work with more than two of you flanking? I'm playing a Divine Commander Warpriest.

Outflank wrote:
Whenever you and an ally who also has this feat are flanking the same creature, your flanking bonus on attack rolls increases to +4. In addition, whenever you score a critical hit against the flanked creature, it provokes an attack of opportunity from your ally.

If I grant Outflank to my party via Battle Tactician and enemy E is flanked by 2 pair of attackers A and B:

0 A 0
B E B
0 A 0

I read Outflank as granting the Outflank bonus and AoO to any ally flanking the same creature, regardless of whether that ally is the receiving the flanking bonus from me.But the feat is also written in the singular, so could apply to the single ally on the opposite side of the creature from me.

If A1 scores a critical hit, who gets an AoO? A2, or A2 and B?

Okay, I've read the Adherer, and I've read grapple, and I've read threads about grappling. And I still can't figure out how the Adherer works.

It has the adhesive ability, which causes weapons to stick to it and a free grapple against natural weapons and unarmed strikes. It also seems to allow the creature to grapple while not getting the grappled condition. So if it hits, succeeds at the grab, and grapples without getting the grappled condition, can it do this again with its other slam attack? How many creatures can the Adherer get stuck to it and grappled at one time?

I don't think there are any real spoilers here but I'll put this all in a tag anyway.

Sihedron Circle:
So I'm thinking of making the Sihedron Circle. I have my own ideas but I'm curious how others have seen the Circle in their minds' eyes.

We know the stone heads are preserved with Thassilonian magic. Paizo has published images of the Runelords. They're described as heads, so I see them as having no neck as part of the statue.

I also see them all as looking okay--nobody sculpts the Runelord as an ugly statue if they want to stay alive. So even Zutha looks okay, less drooly and less slimy than his depiction in The Dead Heart of Xin.

So did you all imagine them as smooth like a marble sculpture, rough like the Easter Island heads, or somewhere in between? How do they stay upright? Do they have a small base, or do they rest chin on the ground like the Olmec heads?

What do you all think?

Sorry for another swarm thread but I'm still not clear on attacking the swarm. For this question, I'm specifically talking about diminutive or fine swarms. My players are facing a scarab swarm.

I'm interested in splash weapons. (I'm reading the rules as torches or energy damage from magic weapons as not applying, since they would be effects that target a single creature.) So I have a swarm that can fly and PCs with alchemist's fire and some oil.

1. To attack with the alchemists' fire for full damage, do they need to target the swarm at AC18 or can they target a grid intersection at AC5? Is the answer the same if the swarm doesn't fly? (Or is the scarab swarm made up of insects in the air and on the ground?)

2. If they miss and the alchemists' fire still lands in a swarm square, does it cause full damage or splash damage?

3. If it causes full damage, does the alchemists' fire also do splash damage to adjacent squares that contain the swarm?

4. Does this function the same with a flask of oil? What are the options here?

If they have to hit AC18 to do full damage, this seems like it's going to be really hard for the PCs. (They've had to run once.)

I'm reading through the final chapter and trying to make sure I understand everything going on. I have a couple questions.

For the Hidden Beast encounter, the decapus has 10 tentacles. Reading the stat block, it sounds like those are treated as a single attack, correct? I'm assuming it would be written as "10 tentacles" if each tentacle got an attack, rather than "tentacles."

Also, has anyone drawn up a cross-section of the Eye of Avarice? I'm having a hard time visualizing it from the text; it sounds like there are some big elevation differences in there.

What counts as fine detail for purposes of wood shape? Ironwood references it and says:

Quote:
Using this spell with wood shape or a wood-related Craft check, you can fashion wooden items that function as steel items.

But wood shape makes it sound pretty crude. Would wood shape be able to create a simple shape like a sword but something like chainmail or other functioning armor would require crafting? Or could wood shape form workable armor?
