Hobbs launches a single bolt of force at Hesla. Hesla laughs at the pinprick, though she is hit by falling rocks immediately after. Hobbs flings a spell at her but she laughs maniacally as she easily overcomes it.

Hesla suddenly stiffens, however. She looks confused, as if her senses suddenly went haywire. She blinks rapidly for a few seconds, her jaw slack. As quickly as it occurred, the feeling passes and she lashes out at Brix, Makie, Salliss: 1d3 ⇒ 3

Pip continues to keep Hesla laughing. She then turns and sends some aid to Makie to help her rid Hesla of her accursed scythe. Salliss attempts to bonk Hesla with his rapier but fails to do so. He then morphs the weapon into a shortsword and manages to stab her in someplace unimportant.

Hesla appears to be severely weakened from loss of blood but seems to keep going from rage alone.

Brix takes advantage of Salliss' strike to also stab Hesla in someplace unimportant. He then lashes out and pokes her once more. Overwhelmed by the blood loss, Hesla's eyes roll back in her sockets and she collapses.

You can restrain her before you revive her. But if she reaches dying 4, bad things happen! :)

She's out cold. Sorry. I keep forgetting about the non-lethal. You have a chance to influence her to surrender peacefully. Though I would advise you to restrain her first!

For a high level fight, less than 4 rounds?! wow. :)

Once you have Hesla restrained, you revive her and attempt to convince her to atone for her actions, first with the Society and then with the High Council of Absalom, but it won’t be easy. She is devoted to her cause, and to help her atone you need to convince her that her actions are wrong, even if they started from a place of pain and caring.

Where on earth do I begin here? The truth is that you have plenty to make amends for, even if it isn't to the Society. Honestly I don't think we will be too put off by your lack of friendship or remorse with us. You've shown your disdain for the Society in spades. Makie switches to sarcasm at this point, trying to mock Hesla. You wouldn't last a day if you were in Tian Xia right now. You see, I understand how much we wronged you by preventing you from taking over Sarkoris and killing hundreds. Like you were entitled to do that. You'd be a pile of ash at this point, consider yourself fortunate to even be alive.

Makie starts to take one of Hesla's arms and painfully twist it. I really don't care what you think of the Society. After we're gone, you will pay for your crimes against Golarion. You might not be a pile of ash now, but surely the High Court will throw the book at you. What you did outweighs how you felt about it whether you want to admit it or not. Makie twists her arm again.

Maybe you might want to rethink your ways because if you don't, you might just be reduced to a pile of ash. You are not just dealing with us but others more stronger and powerful than we are.

You manage to convince Hesla to return with you to face the music. Falwynd is visibly surprised at this and offers to come with the party to escort Hesla to the High Court once the Society leadership has finished talking to her.

With her senses restored, Hesla calms down. "Very well, I shall return with you and accept responsibility for what I have done. Maybe there is a way back from all this chaos I have caused."

You now have 10 minutes to heal/refocus. This is a hard limit, I can't handwave it this time. :)

Off to the west, in the Foreign Quarter of Absalom near the grounds of the Grand Lodge, reality shimmers for a long moment as all sound in the city at the center of the world stops. A pinprick of darkness appears in the sky, quickly expanding into a vertical line that then rips through space and time, creating an earthquake! The edges of this unholy portal fall from the sky as swarms upon swarms of chthonic locusts pour out onto the home of the Pathfinder Society like water from a bucket. A shape emerges onto the surface of Golarion from the realms beyond—a shape so horrific as to induce panic just by looking at it. This is the greater demon Ingalor, father of Deskari, in the flesh!

WELCOME TO THE CHASE SUBSYSTEM

With Riftcarver and Hesla in tow, you must now race across Absalom to return to the Grand Lodge to deal with this emerging threat. You overcome obstacles by earning Chase Points (CP) with skill checks.
* Each round is 5 minutes. You can choose to take 10 minutes to further heal/refocus but that will delay your return to the Grand Lodge.
* CS/S/F/CF: +2/+1/0/-1
* Taking more than 2 rounds to complete one obstacle results in a 'failure threshold'.
* Number of successes per obstacle required: 6
* Using a Spell or Ability gets an automatic success
* Using a Consumable (or non-cantrip spell) gets an automatic critical success

Moving with an evil scythe in hand takes a bit of getting used to for Brix, but his relfexes narrowly seem to be enough to kick in as he scrambles out from the manor grounds.

Diverting north to avoid the chaotic docks, you skirt the edge of the Petals District. Homes of the rich and powerful burn as the nobility stew around in a panic, grabbing onto anyone passing by to try and help them save their dwellings and loved ones.
