Parker smiles in response to Catrina's giggle.

"I was just speculating. I don't know if he is going to have us do more competitions. The basic competitions for regular gym classes are the track and field events. For students with powers, I would not be surprised if there are flying races. Lifting vehicles might be part of testing students with powered strength," Parker's left eybrow raises slightly, "Enhanced strength? Superstrength?"

Where upon reaching the second gym, you see Cable standing in front of two tubes.

"These are boom tubes," he says. "They allow travel across the planet and even above it."

Catrina makes a concerned face. "Boom tubes?" She cocks her head and adds, "Do they just fire you to wherever? With a big boom?"

No. They don't.

"They do not, actually," said Cable. "I'll demonstrate."

He goes to the controls, and soon the boom tube lights up and through it steps the Batman. Complete with black cowl, cape, and mostly grey costume. And also utility belt.

"Professor Cable," said the Batman. "Are these the new recruits?"

Cable nods. "Yes, and quite capable too," Cable says. "Class, this is the Batman. He will be handling your missions from now on. You may use the Boomtubes to go to your home towns and go here. Batman isn't on the Faculty, but I told him about your little battle with the Zoanoids."

Parker extends his hand to the Batman, "Nice to meet you, sir. I'm Parker." Parker then steps aside so his classmates can introduce themselves.

After his classmates have introduced themselves, Parker asks Cable, "There's a boomtube in the quaint seaside hamlet I am from? How long has that been there? Oh, did you mean Victoria, B.C. for my hometown?" Parker starts thinking of the possible places that such a device might be hidden in Jordan River.

"That sure beats walking" she laughs and then does a formal greetings for the bat

"Quite the name, glad I have the chance to meet all the diff6people I could only hear of while in hospital."

The Batman replied to Parker, "Nice to meet you too."

He then turns to Jessie. "Yes, well -- down to business," he says. "The designation 'Young Justice' has been relegated to you. The current Young Justice have all joined the Justice League."

"No. Way."

Catrina looks around to her fellow students. "Wait, does this mean we've been put on our own team? For real?"

Her eyes are wide, mouth agape at the implications.

His irises of green flame trick activate, though this time Parker winks at her with his right eye, and as his right eyelid opens back up, only his left iris has the flame trick active.

A thought occurs to Parker, and he asks Cable, "Sir, are we only allowed to use the boomtubes to travel to our hometowns and back to school...when we're not on missions that is. It is honour to be chosen, sirs. When we don't have class and are not on missions, are we allowed to use them to, say, go see broadway play in New York City with a classmate?"

Parker's surface thoughts Cable probably 'hears':

<"My ya-yas are not going to believe it! First day and I am on an official superhero team! Get it together, Parker! Class and missions first, then I can phone to tell them the news.">

"No, you can't use them to go see a broadway play," Cable's answer was direct. "You can use them to go to your hometown, and back. Using them to go somewhere fun and recreational will be against the spirit in what they were made."

Batman said, "Professor Cable is correct. Their intended purpose is for you to use them to go to and come back from your hometowns."

"That is quite the turn of events. Didn't think we'd be elevated so quickly... And in regards to my hometown. I would rather not. Don't want any more of those Zoas to go there. Not that I can't handle them, but... They can be brutal and have very little respect for life."

Catrina purses her lips. "Well, they better have some respect for death," she quips in response to Jessie.

"Speaking of which... where did that dead one get off to?" She looks around, sort of past everyone.

Cable and the Batman's answer not phasing him, as he expected the answer to be no. Parker hopes he accomplished what he wanted to by asking the question - which was to let the girls know he puts thoughts into dates (aside staying in and watching movies, though his questions asking them what sort of genres they like to watch might've indicated that he looks for something that they would both enjoy watching).

Insight check to see if it occurs to Parker that with the group being told the Batman is not on the faculty, is going to assign missions to the team, knows about the fight with the Zoanoids, if the Batman is here to assign the new Young Justice team their first mission. Insight or Investigation, I think would make sense as the possible skills to use for this particular circumstance. Insight +3 or Investigation +0 (Parker has Jack-of-All-Trades so can make skill checks for all skills). Looking at the Diffculty Class tabe on page 13, the highest DC for this particular check would probably be average (DC 10) as the next DC is tough, which seems would be too high given the circumstances.

Insight: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

The Batman leaves by Boom Tube. The light shows up in the tube, and the Batman is transported back to the Watchtower. Cable then dismisses you to your next class.

THE NEXT DAY.

It's morning. The difference is that you are getting ready for school.

Describe what you are having for breakfast.

Parker insists his mother sit down at the dining room table as he continues to make breakfast for her, his sister and himself.

"Mom, I got this." Parker flips the current pankcake in the one frying pan while flipping the thick-cut homefries in another pan and then scoops out the rest of the scrambled eggs from the third frying pan onto the platter he is using for the cooked eggs and potatoes. "Two minutes and breakfast will be ready. Sis, can you grab some glasses and the o.j. from the fridge. Thanks."

As the three of them are sitting and having breakfast Parker asks, "Old man Henry saw me exit the phone booth yesterday. Can you make sure he doesn't cause a stink about trying to get the only phone booth in town taken away, Mom?" His mother assures her son that she will make sure the phone booth remains active so her son can continue his schooling on the east coast of the continent.

"How has Dad's therapy been going since I left for the road trip to get to school?"

"Dad walked for three minutes unaided three days ago!" Parker's sister, Alana, answered. "The doctors told us they expect he needs to remain at the care facility for at least two more months before considering him healthy enough to walk all day long."

"That is the doctors said his physical mobility will return to a modicium of his former self, which will take at least two more months. My concern is how much of his brain injuries will heal. His words are still jumbled when he speaks. The specialists are not sure if his brain's speech centre will fully heal. His progress for comprehending speech is steadily improving though, so that is a good sign." Parker's mother, Dr. Daphne Song added to answer her son's question more in-depth.

"Did our ya-yas and cousins get to Walt Disney World yet?" Parker asks as he munches down on some fried potatoes.

"Not yet, they are taking their time stopping at places your cousins ask them too. They will probably arrive in Orlando by the end of the week." his mother answers.

"How was your first day?" Alana asks her older brother. "How many cute boys go to the school?"

"None that are young enough for you to date." Parker replies.

"Come on, Parker. I'm only two years away from high school. Maybe I will develop powers and they will recruit me too."

The possibility of his little sister fighting those monsters sends a shiver down Parker's spine. He composes himself before replying, "Maybe you will. Maybe you won't."

"I have to head out." Parker stands up, grabs his backpack and kisses his mother and sister on their cheeks, "Love you. See you after school." Parker then winks at his sister just before he phases through the hardwood front door of their house and walks the five blocks to get to the lone phonebooth in town, which is in the parking lot that was built for tourists to park that come to the town to surf. When Parker was younger he thought it absurd that the parking lot was built to provide parking for up to 50 vehicles, which is half the population of Jordan River. But considering how quickly those spaces fill up during summer weekends it is a wonder a second parking lot was never built.

So he had a better room here, and there was a LOT of food here, and there was a pool here, AND there were some moderately attractive people here which might include some of his classmates ... so where would this boomtunnel go? LOL, like which foster home would they have programmed? Would it take him to the West's place, how much would that suck for them? The Allen's?

But if it could take him to Central City, wth right? Why not try arriving somewhere and NOT arriving hungry. That would be weird but cool. He could have Garrett's for breakfast!!!

Better yet, he could bring Garret's back to school. Popcorn wasn't exactly "breakfast for most people, but for Jaime, it was a godsend. Normal people didn't realize that carmel popcorn was packed with calories, and Jaime needed every single calorie he could get. When the carmel popcorn was mixed with the cheese popcorn, well, that was living. Why not eat and expand the horizons of his classmates? He was a team player like that.

Time to enter the Skoot Shoot and see where it went.
He was really hoping for downtown ...

Catrina woke up in her dorm bed. She had put her clothes away, but had not yet put anything up on the walls yet. The one thing she had managed to set out, the first thing she pulled out of her bags, in fact, was a framed old black-and-white photo of her great grandmother.

”Oh, Nana,” she said, wistfully looking at the photo, ”This place is so much more than I ever expected! Did you see the guys flying and running around and tossing fire and everything? How could I ever compete?”

”Flight? Fire? Pah, it is nothing. You have Death on your side.” Catrina heard the voice clearly. Anyone watching would have thought she was alone. And yet, she did not flinch at the sound. No, not a sound, a presence.

”Yeah, I suppose I do,” Catrina grinned. ”But it didn’t help when I had to throw anything or run fast or punch hard! Do you really think I’m cut out for this?”

”Catrina! That’s enough. They knew what you were capable of, when they invited you to the school. Leave the strength and fire to the others. You were able to drop two of those monsters without breaking a sweat. You are Muerte’s chosen. Their bones will listen to you. You will understand what that means, in time.”

”Okay, Nana. Thank you. I’ll keep showing them what I can do.” She opened her wardrobe, pulling out a red checked dress. She bit her lip as she changed out of her blue pajamas to put it on. ”Do you think Parker is going to help me to fly again?”

”Oh, no, mija, don’t start getting into boys already. You only just got here. You don’t know them. And Parker? Really? Timothy’s such a good Catholic boy. I won’t have you go chasing after bad boys, now. You have no idea how much they can mess up your life.”

”Hmm? Like get a girl pregnant as she moves to a new country, Nana? Is that the rest of the story?” Catrina looked herself over in the mirror, smirked, and put her hair up in twin ponytails. Let’s see what the boys think now.

”Among other things. That’s enough teasing, Catrina. You need to go get breakfast and don’t you dare be late to class!”

”Yes, Nana,” Catrina replied, as she matched her lipstick to her dress. A beauty queen has to have a few tricks up her sleeve, after all. She’d pick up a slice of toast and an orange juice before class. See how much of a lip print she could leave behind on a glass. A pair of Keds to finish the look, and off she sauntered.

Her great-grandmother was always such a handful.

"Parker! Come join us!" Catrina called, while Jessie ate.

Catrina looked nothing like yesterday. No longer a down-home, denim-clad girl next door, she was in a flowy red-and-white checked dress, done up with make-up, and her hair in twin tails. "We were wondering when you'd come down. Did you sleep well?"

"Well, my name is Jaime. Mach3. I'm human, not Kryptonian. They're fast though, that is for sure. I'm from Central City. We don't have any oceans there, only the Great Lakes.
