@Trawets

Character gen has always been a fun pass time for me in most systems :P

I only now saw I get +1 to M/O if I have Gambler 1

This will bring my Cr to an extra 100k. While still keeping everything else

Just so you know that I'm not spending more than I should.

There are a couple things here. As basic training in a new career you get 1 skill from the service skill list at 0. Also you don't get the +1 DM to your benefit roll as that was for navy career. You also gain an Ally and a rival from your event.

Correct. But I get 1 from having Gambler 1 :)

I forgot to add the skill. I'll up my pursausion to 1

I added the rival and ally in the main sheet of my profile

Thanks!

Sleeping alone? Good to know

I have also TOTALLY not finalized backstory btw

Could be that Jason's ex who died was a guy.
Could be that Jason is non-binary & bisexual.
Could be that NO ONE needs to sleep alone ...

I almost typed that and then looked at benefits. That only applies to cash rolls and did you have gamble 1 when you rolled cash?

That was a lot of what I love, the thoughtfulness. Especially how both the crew area and the passanger area are much much more loungy.

I am happy to work on putting together a base cost to go over with you if you want, let me know (I will do it with 2 laser turrets).

I appreciate it but let's not put effort into that yet. Once ship type is picked we can look at model. I would prefer ships from core but when I looked at the yacht I noticed it was unarmed so started looking on the web. Your ship will need to be armed.

I'm thinking more of science experiment for a weapon, and

The weapon was designed as a dimensional life weapon. Aranda didn't really understand the science, but She knew that it was misnamed. It was a death weapon. She hated the project. It was a sadistic way of killing a crew and then taking the ship. Heartless and cruel.

Aranda is at the targeting computer. A burst of energy expands, why? Unknown. "Crawford...I think this thing is going to cascade!"

The weapon pulses a cascading wave of Necrotonic energy. The wave expands in a spherical burst. The small armada of thief guild ships, they just stop communicating. "I think, we killed your friends." She said slowly. "Let's get out of here."

Little did Aranda know, that two of the guild still lived. They both blame Aranda for the massacre. Maybe they're right.

@Aranda

So just checking did you write Axel as an enemy or was that a different admiral?

:P

Wow I participated in RL for a day and forty eight posts.

Axel, I saw you took another term, that will put you four years older than Lucian, which is fine. I don't like the idea of testing my luck.

As for the ship I'm good with whatever you all pick. I'm fine with someone else getting the Executive suites, as long as Lucian can use the fancier showers.

Daniel, in my brain Lucian met you his 5th tour when dealing with the 'Mishap' ran afoul of a criminal gang, corrupt bureaucrat or other foe. Gained an enemy We're you undercover in a criminal gang? You good with that being when Allen and Lucian met?

As I mentioned. I'm really enjoying the pregame banter and discussion. So I got caught up in the fun and went with one last term to show what he did early out of service of the navy. Enjoying a bit of retired fun and exploration, especially with his new Noble Ranking

My idea is a rags to riches kind of story

Aranda saw the ships security move with an assertive strategy. She could tell that they were aware of the theft that was being portrayed.

Lance had melted her heart. He was an idealist. Lance's homeworld was dying, but the only medicine was on an imperial cruiser. The cruiser was heading to some dim-s$!$ anti-aging facility which was dedicated to lengthening the wretched lifespans of the nobility. We had a short time to plan. The Imperium dropped the hammer on Lance for the attempted theft.

But all the death's of men, women, and children in his home, made the hate of the Admiral increase with every body. My love, My life rots in prison. Lance tells me, "Be close to him. Travel with him. I'll contact you."

Axel is innocent of this crime

I find this response odd.

What crime did the Admiral commit? From his perspective, he stopped a theft from his 'Armada'. I'm sure the 'medicine' was a small part of whatever items the Imperium told him to move. He probably didn't hear a defense for Lance's theft until trial, If he bothered to track the criminal trial.

From a writing perspective, It would have created an interesting sub-plot...IMHO

I agree, conflict is one thing, PvP is something different

OK..so it looks like I have 2 players that want to use me for their connection, but also on the same Term. That could be very interesting. I figured I planned and executed the heist plan with Aranda, and then Lucian was there to help in my escape?? Is that possible? Either way, I will be taking Computer-1 from one of you and Carousing-1 from the other :-) On our group package I would also like to take Computer if it is available...

Keep in mind that the noble ranks are for DM-T to designate, they are NOT automatic. SOC works a lot like it works in the US --- Bill Gates is Tech Royalty, many many retired General/Admiral types are Military Royalty, and there are the Hiltons, the Kardashians, etc. None of those will be members of the House of Lords any time soon.

Been kicked for some reason. Enjoy your game guys

Well who is still here to play?? We might need to alter our connections with 2 people leaving??

1 person marked this as a favorite.

There are 4 currently. RH isn't going anywhere. I am giving pinvendor until tomorrow to post something then I will PM him to see if he is still interested. RH might come back in with a different character. We will see.

I have put up a gameplay post to get thing going. I thought it might help set the scene for you guys to discuss your ship purchase in character and your roles on the ship. We have a couple of days before we being in earnest but I thought you might enjoy fleshing out your characters before I kill you all. :)

I will be honest, I came up with a pretty cool story idea for the ship ... so maybe we can all sound off about what would be cool, and then see how that looks relative to RH possibly transforming into a Marine, and privindor joining us also.

(and then we will all manifest a LOT of 5s for RH upon Mustering Out, so that in addition to his TAS he gets a bunch of shares)

Hmm...most of the resources I located indicated that Commission rolls in lieu of Advancement were optional. I even found one unverified statement quoting a forum thread from Mongoose (the link to the page being quoted has been made defunct due to age) even suggested that one could attempt a Commission roll then proceed to roll Advancement if the Commission roll failed.

You can rule however you choose as the Referee, but in terms of earth military it seems odd that my character is unable to choose to Advance in the "enlisted" path and only move forward if obtaining an officer rank.

We miscommunicated, it looks like I forgot an ed. You rollED for commission therefore you do no get to roll for advancement. You can totally advance as an enlisted man but you can't roll for commission and advancement in the same term.

8d. Military characters (Army, Navy, Marines) can roll for commission instead of rolling for advancement.

We've run into this issue previously. You can choose to try for commission in your first term but you give up your advancement roll or you can just keep your advancement roll and continue on.

Hmm, I think there is still confusion. I rolled for Commission on Enlistment to see if I entered as an officer. My thought being that would be allowed like as if my character had joined ROTC or enrolled at Annapolis (US Navy college).

Once I ended the term, I only rolled Advancement. The Commission roll was intended to be pre-career.

There is no pre career commission roll. You start all military careers as enlisted.

My apologies for misunderstanding. Please disregard the Commission roll then as I assumed I'd be able to make a free one for the reasons indicated above. I shouldn't have assumed this would mirror real life possibilities. :P

If I choose to just run 1 or 2 more terms will that make my character too underpowered, or does anyone think it might be fun to have a slightly less powerful "rookie" for the burgeoning team?

In the end it's up to you where you want to stop. Most of us did 6 to 7 terms

If YOU are happy with a lower tiered character, you're welcome.

But a suggestion: 3 or 4 is average

To be honest, a rookie could be just as valuable as the crusty old guys. Between connections and the skill package selections, you could still have a solid Level 1 in something that would be useful, and one of your connections could want to "give you a chance" so to speak

Pinvendor, you are welcome to come have a look in the discussion thread, you are up first to pick a skill from the Traveler package

On the other hand, a second term would give a second connection. I would recommend rolling until '30' so your not rolling for aging, but it would give you three tours. So more knowledge, two connections and three to five mustering out rolls. either way you'll still be the 'rookie young guy' I think two of us are 42 and the others 46, or maybe 64, I get it confused... but, you know, old....

Edit: And if he keeps rolling he may get gunnery on his own. Yeah, I'm hoping it's still left when I get to pick from the 'package' :)

2nd Term:
Continuing in the Navy: I assume no Enlistment roll is required to remain.

6. a. Choose one of the Skills and Training tables for this career and roll on it.
Specialist: Eng/Gun: 1d6 ⇒ 4

  • Engineer

Roll for survival on this career.
    Survival (Int 6+): 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 3) + 1 = 5 Failed...

    Roll for Mishap:
Navy Mishap: 1d6 ⇒ 5 = You are tormented by or quarrel with an officer or fellow crewman. Gain that character as a Rival, as he forces you out of the Navy.

    :(

  • Age 22 + 4 = 26

    Age 26 stats:

    Characteristics:
    Strength (Str) 7 (+0)
    Dexterity (Dex) 8 (+0)
    Endurance (End) 6 (+0)
    Intelligence (Int) 11 (+1)
    Education (Edu) 9 (+1)
    Social Standing (Soc) 5 (-1)

    Skills:
    Survival 0
    Computers 0
    Engineer 1
    Carouse 0
    Pilot 0
    Vacc Suit 0
    Zero-G 0
    Gunner 0
    Mechanic 1
    Gun Combat 0
    Remote Operations 0

Well, that kind of sucked. Increased my Engineer skill, but don't get anything else and now have to get a new career. Well, unless gaining a Rival is considered a good thing...

    3rd Term:
    Choose a career: Age 26
  • Scholar
    Qualification (Int 6+): 2d6 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (1, 3) + 1 - 1 = 4 Fail

    Draft: 1d6 ⇒ 6 = Agent (law enforcement)

    Basic training: = Investigate 0
Choose a specialization for this career: = Law Enforcement (mandatory)

Choose one of the Skills and Training tables for this career and roll on it.
    Advanced Education: 1d6 ⇒ 4

  • Medic 0

Roll for survival on this career.
    Survival (End 6+): 2d6 ⇒ (4, 5) = 9 Survived!

    Roll for Events:
Agent Events: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6 = You are given advanced training in a specialist field. Throw Education 8+ to increase any one skill you already have by one level.
    Edu 8+: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 5) + 1 = 10 = Gun Combat 0 => Gun Combat 1

    Roll for Advancement:
    Advancement (End 6+): 2d6 ⇒ (2, 6) = 8 Success!
If you succeed, choose one of the skills and training tables for this career and roll on it. Increase your Rank and take any bonus skills from the Ranks table for this career.
    Personal Development: 1d6 ⇒ 1 = Gun Combat 1 => Gun Combat 2

  • Law Enforcement Rank 1 (Corporal) = Streetwise 1
  • Age 26 + 4 = 30

    Age 30 stats:
    Characteristics:
    Strength (Str) 7 (+0)
    Dexterity (Dex) 8 (+0)
    Endurance (End) 6 (+0)
    Intelligence (Int) 11 (+1)
    Education (Edu) 9 (+1)
    Social Standing (Soc) 5 (-1)

    Skills:
    Carouse 0
    Computers 0
    Engineer 1
    Gunner 0
    Gun Combat 2
    Investigate 0
    Mechanic 1
    Medic 0
    Pilot 0
    Remote Operations 0
    Streetwise 1
    Survival 0
    Vacc Suit 0
    Zero-G 0

    Rank: Corporal

Alright...did I do this all correct? If I Muster Out now, what exactly do I roll? One Benefit roll for my single term with Agent?

I am going to beg forgiveness for not scrolling back: did you muster out of the Navy? I really don't remember.

The only other thing that I can see that's missing is that you would need to pick a specialization when you took Gun Cbt (something) 1 and then you would need to decide if you were actually increasing that to 2, or if you were taking another specilization at Level 1
