Daegon learns that Petrello's is nowhere near the best or most successful haberdasher in Saringallow.
Victor. |
"We'll do our best to find him." replies Victor with a reassuring smile, before heading out into the street to see what he can find out on the way to the haberdashers...

Someone actually talks to Guardian XI! He says, "Petrello started his business to support himself and his daughter after the divorce."
A woman tells Victor, "Petrello is usually in a foul mood so watch out."
A different man confides in Cannoli, "Petrello was a horrible cobbler and he is no better as a haberdasher - but you didn't hear that from me."
An elderly woman tells Jakeric, "His hats look more like shoes than his shoes ever did!" and snickers.

Jakeric |
Jakeric looks around and, without even thinking about it, starts to organise a little bit.
Is it is a mess in the sense this guy is lazy and doesn't have an apprentice to clean up after him, or has it been ransacked/upended in some way?

In the sense that even with an apprentice, and Jakeric helping for free, it would still be a disorganized mess.
Cannoli Jones |
Alright, butter him up first.
”Howdy boss man, nice place ya got. Stuff is looking good.”
Now keep it cool and don’t waste his time.
”We don’t want to waste your valuable time, obviously.”
Now drop the offer.
”But I think we can really help you out, if you can help us for just a brief moment.”

Huh, nice. How da ya like that? Might still need an aid tho.

29 followed by a 26? Yikes! It's a shame the 'Aid Another' doesn't scale based on the roll. So we're at 31, can we get even higher?

The diplomatic assault by the group elicits a grumble as the man looks up and notices Jakeric helpfully sorting and arranging the merchandise.
"My name is Petrello, what can I do for you? Young man pointing at Jakeric you should buy one of those top hats. It will make you look older and wiser."
He notices Daegon's pale skin and suggests, "Grab one of those wide-brimmed hats; it should keep your fair skin from burning."
To Victor, "Hm...you look like a distinguished gentleman. See what color of bowler hat matches your eyes."
To Cannoli, "Stylish eh? Definitely a fedora. They're over there."
To Guardian XI, "You stick out even in this group and that's saying somethin. Maybe a Homburg hat will help warm people up to you."

To Guardian XI, "You stick out even in this group and that's saying somethin. Maybe a Homburg hat will help warm people up to you."
That hat?
He points at it.
Doesn't it only cover the top of my head? With the rest of me still visible I fear the locals will still be suspicious of me until we chat some. Does it magically expand to make me look like an elf or something? Maybe a gnome.
Cannoli Jones |
Cannoli hops up to pat the big guy on the shoulder, ”Oh don’t be so self depreciating, you are valuable. And maybe a special hat would distract people or make you seem fancy. And people looooove fancy.”
She turns to the shopkeeper, ”If you could tailor a fedora for my ears, I would happily purchase one! Anyway, we are investigating some missing persons for the mayor, has your apprentice been back since you reported them… missing?”
Vreekka The Brainiac |
Sorry for slacking, everyone. Had a few rough days at work.
Diplomacy: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (8) - 2 = 6 Yeah, right.
”Hi there. I have no use for a hat, but do you also make belt pouches?”
Guardian XI |
Oh! Do you have a miners’s helmet? Maybe sometimes they want to look nice.
GM Shadow Dragon |
Petrello blinks at Guardian XI and says, "No helmets, only hats. Listen to the lady pointing at Cannoli she knows what she's talking about."
To Vreekka he adds, "Like I told him pointing at Guardian XI just hats."
Petrello takes some measuring tape and measures Cannoli's head and ears, "Yeah my daughter Betrona has eyes for that goofy apothecary boy - he's a bad influence that one! And that Nolaria Wintren is no better with her ideas of finding adventure. I'm sure they talked Betrona into whatever hairbrained scheme they've cooked up. Believe me if I knew where they were Betrona would be here and Gellion would be in the Temple getting healing!"
Cannoli Jones |
The catfolk's ears twitch when touched, "Oh, that tickles!"
Once her composure returns, Cannoli asks, "Heard anything about giant bugs?"

Making adjustments to the classy fedora he says, "Giant bugs? No but maybe we can pin it on Gellion and get him out of my daughter's life."
You're pretty sure Petrello has told all he knows.

"Looks like we've spoken to everyone on the list except the baker." muses Victor "So I guess that's where we need to head next."

Cannoli nods, ”Thanks for the measurements, when can I pick up the hat?”
Once that reply is given she leads the group to the baker. Or if she gets lost, some random other place.

"Yes, Cannoli, it's a tree... but not just any tree - it's a Pinaceae Pinus thunbergii! Very rare here in Isger, because it's originally from Tian Xia. Usually found in the Forest of Spirits north of Minkai - and also in Minkai itself. Interesting we find one here... but probably just a coincidence."

Victor finds out from a long-time resident that Gunty is a veteran of the Goblinblood Wars. He suffered a serious leg injury which made his already sour disposition even worse.
Daegon +9 at 1st level - what a cheeseweasel! ;) learns from one of Gunty's customers that he prides himself on making "the heartiest breads this side of the damn river." He also learns that Gunty is a tough boss on his apprentices.

The smell of fresh-baked bread leads the hungry stomachs of the group to Gunty's. Inside a large man with a significant limp is barking orders at five panicked apprentices.
