Caks Flat Check - 1d20 ⇒ 10 DC 11 Flat Check.
* Telurion slips at the last minute and the acid does less damage than he originally thought. Though is still burns fiercly.
* Caks starts to stride forward, then realizes that the ground is very slippery. He also starts to draw one of his daggers but realizes that at this range he is better off to stick with his sling. He slings a bullet at where he knows the target is, but the refraction of the water turned his bullet just enough to miss.
Rail up... Telurion on deck.

Ready is an action that lets you take a free or single action when the event it triggered, so you can't really ready a two-action spell.

Concentrate
Source Player Core pg. 417 2.0
You prepare to use an action that will occur outside your turn. Choose a single action or free action you can use and designate a trigger. Your turn then ends. If the trigger you designated occurs before the start of your next turn, you can use the chosen action as a reaction (provided you still meet the requirements to use it). You can't Ready a free action that already has a trigger.
If you have a multiple attack penalty and your readied action is an attack action, your readied attack takes the multiple attack penalty you had at the time you used Ready. This is one of the few times the multiple attack penalty applies when it's not your turn.

Brennus's odd chant reaches a crescendo, which he suddenly cuts off with a cry like a crack of thunder. The orb of lightning streaks out to the water creature in back and explodes.

Telurion takes (6+1) points of acid damage.
What you are doing is basically aiding yourself to remove the Persistent damage. So, it's basically ◆ Stride, ◆ Prepare Item (We'll assume it's not in your backpack which would take an additional action). ◆ Aid (This allows you to take an immediate action to remove the persistent damage, I will adjust the DC if you take certain actions, and the Aid action lets you make a check before you take the persistent damage at the end of your turn).
* You get an immediate Reflex Save (DC 14 for your actions). to end the condition before the end of your turn.
* If you don't make this check you make a DC 15 Flat check to recover at the end of your turn.

Supreme Being |

The creatures make the perhaps fatal mistake of not submerging after they coated Caks and Telurion with their acidic breath, and Brennus sitting in his safe tree loosens a mighty ball of electricity and thunder towards Water Thing 2.
The attack isn't well aimed, but the sheer power of it still damages the creature... and that's not all folks, the power of the spell seems to charge everything around the creature as well.
◆◆◆ Cast Horizon Thunder Sphere.
Note you still have a +1 to Hit & Damage due to Rail's lingering composition.

Supreme Being |

Brennus surprises everyone as he releases a gigantic bolt of energy towards the swimming Water things.
He directly targets WC2 which still takes some damage from the attack which slightly misses, but then as the lightning dances around the area, it moves into a ball of persistent energy and dissipates into wherever Elementals go when they die.
The extra point of damage from Rail was enough to kill it. Without that one point it would have survived. .
WC1 seems to see the electricity dancing around the area and is able to somehow avoid the area of electricity.

You aren't within range of the Daze spell if you look at your token you see the (+20') where you moved early in the combat.
Don't forget to add your +1 Inspiration to both hit & Damage. Also roll your damage for the Daze just in case he somehow fails his Will Save if you still cast the spell.
I would probably give the creature a +2 to AC since you've moved back into the woods, but that is offset by the inspiration bonus, so we'll leave things as they are unless you change your actions.

Caks Cragwatcher |

◆ Swap out a dagger for the sling.

Unfortunately, perhaps due to the crazy magnetic fields in the area his dagger misses its target.

By my count I get 9-squares +20' which comes up just short... but since the combat is basically over except for Telurion's persistent damage, I'll just call combat at this time.
The combination of lingering electrical damage, and a fine arrow shot from Rail bring the other water creatures' existence to an end, as it slumps into the water, leaving the arrows to float to the surface.
Combat over... but Telurion still needs his persistent damage saves.
XP: +120 each

Brennus, Raven Sorcerer |

Brennus folds his wings back at his side and turns his head slightly, looking over the battlefield. "As first battles with a group go, this wasn't the worst," he comments. "Assuming Telurion gets that acid off of himself shortly."
He turns his gaze back to the water. "Now, I wonder if the magic remains...?"
Again his eyes glow faintly azure as he examines the pool.

Rail moves closer to the pool and takes a look around.

So in Exploration mode Perception or Knowledge checks happen automatically, right? They often happen automatically, but sometimes you are allowed to make this roll. If you are in Investigate mode, then I might say... "You sense something unusual about a spot of clay in the shallows of the creek. I might then roll a "Nature" roll or ask you to do so depending on the situation. You can change exploration mode activities at any time, so you can drop from search to Investigate to make rolls like this. The Exploration mode is designed to speed up and manage meta-gaming... everyone rolling for everything. If I ask for a roll you may all make one.

Rail's excitement increases as he catches a glint off something golden in the edge of the pond.

Brennus, Raven Sorcerer |

"Well, I for one am glad you didn't suffer a screaming, agonizing death, Telurion," Brennus states, spreading his wings and taking off from his perch.
He descends a bit unsteadily to a landing near the shore of the pond. "There's still an aura of magic about this water, though it's reduced. I would assume that simply means it is the correct place, but perhaps we should do our business quickly in case it's able to summon more defenders if given time."
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Now that he's closer to the water, Brennus catches the glint of something shiny in the pond. "Hmmm... there's something in the water, about there," he thrusts his beak towards where he saw the glint. "I would advocate getting our water sample before going after it, just to be safe."

Telurion Varikson |

Defend or whatever the armed mode is.
"Well, thank you," Telurion replies sarcastically, "I'm glad I didn't suffer a screaming, agonizing death, either. And for the record, I wouldn't have gone screaming. Roaring perhaps." Telurion steps toward Brennus and the water's edge. "Rail were you able to find something crystal we could put some of this water in?"

Raloven "Rail" Winterbreeze |

Rail nods, putting on a pair of thin leather gloves and pulling out the crystal decanter. "Hopefully this works." He kneels to dip the empty container into the pure water, trying to keep his hands out of the pool as much as possible so as not to despoil it.
"Do me a favor and grab my feet if something tries to yank me in, would you?" the elf says ironically.

Supreme Being |

Telurion winces as his raw acid wounds rub on his armor... but all is quiet for now, as their new friend flies down and points out something in the water.
Rail pulls forth the recently bartered for crystal decanter and gathers some of the water from the pond without incident.

Brennus, Raven Sorcerer |

Brennus nods at Telurion. "I would try for it myself, but water knee-high on you would be over my head."
He pauses and tilts his head thoughtfully. "I could, perhaps, try some magic..."
If he can get within 30' of the glint and can see it clearly enough to target it, he tries to use telekinetic hand to pull it out. This would only work if it's a light bulk item.

Supreme Being |

Brennus casts more magic and a ring made of a strange red metal rises from the water and floats in front of Him. It is engraved with the word.Aroxys..

Raloven "Rail" Winterbreeze |

Rail carefully stows away the precious water and nods appreciatively at Brennus's magic hand. "Nice trick. Mind if I take a look at that?"
Knowledge checks are secret, right? Arcana/Occultism/Society +7 or Lore:Elf/Espionage/Underworld +7 or Bardic Lore +7 on the ring/Aroxys, please.
So reading through AoN it looks like you need Read Aura to actually identify that an item is magic? Detect Magic just tells you there's magic within 30' of you (at least until level 7 when you can Heighten it to a 4th level spell). Are we playing that RAW, too, SB? Because it doesn't look like any of us have Read Aura.

Raloven "Rail" Winterbreeze |

Also someone should Treat Wounds on Telurion. Rail isn't Trained in Medicine, unfortunately.
SB, Rail will also want to take a 20 minute break to Refocus and recover his Focus Points. Maybe that can overlap with him identifying the ring, since his spells are about information (knowing it and sharing it)? Wanted to make sure I said that before I forget.

* You don't know the purpose of the ring.
You guys can take as much time / rest as you wish.
Remember except in unusual circumstances there are no Random Encounters in PF2e.
If you guys know anyone to invite to the game as a healer of some sort please feel free to reach out to them. I reposted a recruitment thread yesterday, but no hits yet.

Brennus, Raven Sorcerer |

Brennus also takes a look at the ring. Arcana, Occultism, and Society are all +7
"So, who gets to carry this?" he asks. "I don't exactly have any way to do so myself."

Telurion Varikson |

Telurion moves away from the water and takes his pack off. "I'm going to bandage myself up as best I can before we head out." Telurion then goes through his pack to see if there is anything to ease his pain. Then he considers looking around the glade.
GM, would you see it as reasonable for someone with medicine to be able to spot medicinal plants? Is searching around for some worthwhile? Telurion has a +5. I meant to get a healing kit or whatever 2e calls it and forgot to do so.

Raloven "Rail" Winterbreeze |

Rail shrugs as he turns the ring over in his hand, examining it. "If it's magic let's see if we can figure out what it does first."
OK, if Identify is another kind of Knowledge check then Rail's bonus is +7
Rail winces as he looks over at Telurion's acid burns. "You know, that peddler back at the camp had a fair amount of stuff; we can get there pretty quickly and see if he has some real medicine for you."

Supreme Being |

@ Telurion: Telurion anxiously searches his pack though he knows deep inside he didn't really purchase a healing kit as he meant to. He then looks around the glade desperately for a familiar healing plant but sees nothing to help. He is concerned that he'll have to suffer for a while.
Below are listed two feats. One does away with the healing kit, and one lets you use nature with a possible +2 bonus instead of medicine to treat wounds in the wild. I've recruited a cleric to join the party, so as soon as I can work him into the story I'll do so.
@ Rail
I used your arcana score to try and identify the magic in the ring last round, but didn't roll high enough for you to know what it does.

Caks Cragwatcher |

"Here. Lemme lookat the ring."
Caks closes her fist around the ring and squints her eyes.
Occultism: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Also, Caks has Society +7. Would that help with the recall knowledge on the name?

Brennus, Raven Sorcerer |

"Hmmm... curious. It's possible it's simply a lost wedding band or some such," Brennus muses. "Though if you set it down some distance from the pool and stand back, I can at least scan it for magic."
Basically, trying to place it somewhere there shouldn't be any other magical auras and then using detect magic to see if there's a magical aura or not. It won't get us anything more than "probably magic" or "probably not magic", but it would be something.
Once that's done, the raven flies back up to perch in a low-hanging branch. "I believe we've done all we can here, unfortunately for Telurion's wounds. Shall we return to the bridge and see if this 'knight' is as good as his word, or should we see if the peddler has something for binding wounds first in case he remains hostile?"

Raloven "Rail" Winterbreeze |

SB, if Occultism and Society were applicable why didn't you roll them for Rail or Brennus? Do we have to say what specific Knowledge we want to roll?
Rail nods at Telurion. "Sounds good to me." He looks at Caks, who still has the ring in hand. "Keep that somewhere safe and we can have somebody look at it when we get back to town," he says, nodding at the ring.

Caks Cragwatcher |

Caks will put the ring in a spot that no one would suspect. "It'll be safe here," she says. "Oh, by the way, I've heard the name while in Castorhage, but, I can't seem to remember where or why."

Supreme Being |

You only get to roll one thing for each available piece of information... so I roll the one with the best chance of success. I did roll for identifying for them.
The group carefully leaves the vale with Caks holding onto the ring they found. Who is carrying the crystal decanter?
They start back towards the bridge slowing down to allow Telurion to march with his painful Acid burns. Nothing other than the normal forest sounds accompany them to the bridge, but as they draw near to the bridge area, they can hear some heated discussion from where they originally encountered the Knight.
"I tell you move out of the way or I'll move ye".
"No! None can pass".
"Well how about I just tunnel underneath you and bring the whole bridge down".
"I will fulfill my destiny. You shall not pass"!
As you draw closer you see a Dwarf gestating and arguing with Sir Garon.

Barry Dawnguard |

"now, listen here you no good tin plated knight, I don't care if you're cursed or blessed or wished or what! I neednto get across this chasm and it just ain't right to fight and tussle just cuz you say so! I've no quarrel with you, you've none with me, so just step aside and let me through!"
Barry stomps and gestures as he all but tells at the knight, his backpack sitting in a heap at his side. The chainmail he wears jingles and cranks against his hair and beard adornments butnhis hands remain empty, the Dwerfather symbol emblazoned shield over his shoulders and stout warhammer at his hip clearly indicating he can defend himself though.

Brennus, Raven Sorcerer |

We can retry identifying once a day, right? So tomorrow we could try again?
"Hmmm... perhaps if we pass through that way we'll have to make inquiries..." Brennus comments after Caks mentions Castorhage. "Perhaps in the morning I'll have a better idea what the ring might do. I'll give it another look then."
He falls silent when they approach the bridge and find another person arguing with the knight. Brennus doesn't want just *everyone* knowing he can talk. It's useful to be overlooked at times, after all. So he just settles down on Telurion's shoulder for the time being and waits.

Telurion Varikson |

I assume Rail has the decanter of water since he had the decanter to begin with.
"Ho there! Perhaps we can help. We're hoping this good knight just needs a drink." Telurion says gesturing to Rail and sweeping his arm toward Sir Garon.
