Woot! Thanks for the vote of confidence. I'm looking forward to playing with y'all!

One question Runelord - can I swap out Khala's scale mail for niyahaat? It costs 1 gp more, but is way more bone-people themed, and has essentially the same exact attributes except confers less of a penalty when it has the broken condition...

DM, do you have a preference for how we keep our character sheets?
For now I've linked mine in Pathbuilder on my profile, which is convenient for me...but let us know if you prefer something else.
And everyone, I'll be reading your backstories in more detail in the next day or two. Feel free to propose connections (knowing each other...not knowing each other but having an NPC in common...something more complicated...) I'm happy to tweak if we see interesting opportunties.
Hmmmm, after looking a bit, I was torn between Scroll Thaumaturgy and Diverse Lore. I went with the latter initially but with two INT +4 characters in the party, maybe it's redundant so I'll swap to Scroll Thaumaturgy. I've also finished up my purchases (with a whopping 2 CP left to my name, plus 1 wk of rations).
Oh and Honey/Ollie, I LOVE your drawings of Honey, and love that you drew them yourself! Maybe I'll try my hand at my own drawing of Riuzi some day.
- - - EDIT - - -
I might as well say a bit more about what to expect from Riuzi (as best as I can tell; I'm still fairly new to 2e). Riuzi Rik-Tuk is a Tengu Thaumaturge, with intent to take Harrower for his Free Archetype
His implement is The Tome (which, in his case, is a pack of old harrow cards).
Future archetype: Harrower
Party roles:
* Secondary martial (melee/switch hitter, reasonable damage, somewhat squishy)
* Can use Esoteric Lore (+7) to Recall Knowledge regarding haunts, curses, and creatures of any type
* Good Face skills (Deception Diplomacy, Intimidate) +6
* Ability to choose +2 skills / day to be trained in as well, as needed...which could even be Lore skills we think will be relevant the next day.
* Able to cast any scroll (thanks to Scroll Thaumaturgy)
I expect to be a bit of a support build as well, including buffing folks with the Harrower archetype, eventually.
I don't have any healing, other than the ability to use healing scrolls (which might be worth him carrying, at some point).

Hey Riuzi, Khala isn’t really connected to anyone in town, she’s a blow in on the hunt for bounties and is studiously avoiding…most people. Typical no-nonsense, gruff type with a penchant for wolves (her quah, the Skull Clan have wolf as one of their totems…) so a…lone…wolf. So no shared backstory from/with Khala.
I’m playing a thaumaturge in another PbP, and after canvassing a bunch of folks on the action economy it’s really important to work that stuff out ahead of time - because Esoteric Lore and Exploit Vulnerability rely on RK there needs to be a simpatico in terms of how it happens for PbP. One GM puts the RK info in a spoiler for me so I can roll the intel and decide on whether I’m using mortal weakness or personal antithesis. Not sure how Runelord GM is going to work it out but it should be worked out before we get into combat. Dangerous part of the world, Varisia.
I also played a Suit Seeker inquisitor here on the forums - I made extensive use of this page and a d54 to pull Harrow cards…I know the Remaster will do away with alignments but the rest of the info is likely still useful…

Yeah, sure. The bone armor is more appropriate for a barbarian. :)

I would prefer if everyone formats their Race/Class tabs like Khala has done so it makes my job easier without having to click on your avatars.

Valthrik Malhyn |

Ok, a couple questions:
1. I'd like to drop Void Warp from Malhyn's spellbook and add telekinetic projectile instead if that's ok. I sort of noticed a theme in his spell choices and that seemed appropriate.
2. Since Honey has such a well developed and skilled flying familiar, and mine is much smaller and with fewer abilities, would it make more sense for the story and to keep hers "special" for Valthrik to take something else?
3. I originally had Valthrik learn Amurrun because it seemed likely we'd have at least one of the cat-folk around. Since we do not, would you mind if I changed it to Tengu instead?

1. Sure.
2. Sure, you can opt out of the improved familiar route.3. Sure.

"Honey" Adennin |

@ Riuzi: Thanks so much! Hope you post it if you do.
Also, I've had this Harrow quick reference guide saved for ages, but I've never played a character that went hard enough into fortune telling for it to come up much, maybe it can be useful to you.
@ Valtrhik: DM's free to disagree, but I don't have an issue with our familiars having a little overlap at all! Especially over something like flight. If you want to switch to something else for yourself, that's another thing, but don't feel like you have to on my account!
In general, Honey's been in Sandpoint a little under 5 years at this point, and she's kind of been operating under the assumption that the 'heroics' her patron was guiding her towards were helping the town after the Late Unpleasantness. So she's been around and trying to help wherever she can, and any character who's been here in the meantime is free to decide you've met.

No worries. At this point, I'm neither locked in on it, nor in love with it. It was just a quirky little thing while I was playing with the Pathbuilder. I don't feel I HAVE to change, just that I'd rather your familiar gets more spotlight and I'll move on to something else. Better storytelling.
That said, Honey could have easily come across Valthrik, considering their shared interest in the arcane.

Riuzi Rik-Tuk |

Khale and Honey, thanks for the Harrow tips! This'll be my first time making a Harrow using character, and I'm looking forward to it.
OK, I've got all my crunch added to my profile. It could use some bold formatting, but I think everything's there now.
DM, when you get a chance, would you open gameplay to "dot and delete"? I like using the campaigns tab to keep track of when there are posts for me to read, but this one won't show up there until I have made a gameplay post. (One that I immediately delete is fine, since I assume you're not ready to actually start play yet).
Thanks!

Selina Aldaeth |

I think Selina is ready to go. Selina has been away from Sandpoint for 5 years until she returns now to bury her mom and attend the Swallowtail Festival.

Runelord_GM |

1st post of GT thread is up and it is linked as well - feel free to post your arrival/thoughts on the day of the Festival.

I created the Slides link above my profile so you may access the Google Slides for this campaign, which includes maps, NPC images, monsters, etc.

Riuzi Rik-Tuk |

GM, thanks for the slides. Do you mind using this for my token? (I've already made a cropped version for the purpose; let me know if you don't have access to copy it)
Also I wanted to ask yall (and Runelord in particular): What do you think of having a Discord server for OOC discussion? I've played great games on these forums without one, but since I've started using them in some PBP games I find them a useful way to keep the party in sync (and sometimes get/give a friendly ping when one loses track of the game)...which I think is super valuable since the PBPs I've seen die have often done so for lack of momentum.
What do yall think?

"Honey" Adennin |

I like the idea of a Discord, but if two people are opting out already then it's probably best to keep conversation to the forums. That is a good way to get a hold of me if I ever need to get poked about something over here, though, so my handle's OllieTwist if anyone would like to use that.
Also as a heads up: I'm going to be at a convention this weekend, and will probably have enough downtime to keep up with the threads and post, but it's possible I'll be slow or silent for a few days. I'll be back to normal on Monday.

Valthrik Malhyn |

I'd rather not do Discord, though I'm open to it if everyone else decides they want it.
Also, apologies for being MIA yesterday. I've got a nasty flu bug and I was sleeping for a lot of it and throwing up for the rest of the time.

Riuzi Rik-Tuk |

With three folks not inclined toward Discord, seems like we should take it off the table. PbP works just fine without it; I've just seen too many peter out, and like there being a way to give folks (myself included, sometimes!) a friendly nudge.

Khala Skawe |

I check the Campaign tab of my Profile multiple times per day, so I’m aware of any new posts in Gameplay or Discussion.
The other way I find games stay alive is with a healthy Discussion tab. Personally, I’m probably just out of my “PF2 noob” phase, but still learning a lot of the ins and out, particularly as I have *no* experience above level 2. I’m something of a literalist, and find the ways the rules are written needlessly oblique and obtuse. So I often come into the Discussion tab to…discuss rulings.
One thing I have been reading of late is this thread about hopes for a Remastered Barbarian. I have found that a Giant Instinct Barbarian will be extraordinarily squishy for the first few levels - mostly because all Barbarian’s get -1 AC during Rage, but Giant Instinct Barbarians also get clumsy when wielding the Large weapons they require for the excessive damage improvement during Rage. Clumsy affects all Dex related stuff, including…AC. So Khala will be at -2 AC when wielding her Large greatsword while Raging. And -2 to AC in PF2 is huge.
To offset this, Khala will be making use of her harpoons at (some small) range. And wading in where it makes sense. I also learnt from reading that thread that Raging at the start of combat is sub-optimal - much better to Stride-Strike-Strike to get into combat than Rage-Stride-Strike. Two attacks instead of one. And then on the next round Rage-Strike-Strike.
I find PF2 to be all about the action economy and the synergies of teamwork. Any chance to debuff the enemy or remove their actions (by feinting, flanking, tripping, dazing) etc really could mean the difference between life and death…

Runelord_GM |

Riuzi, please update the Race/Class tabs with the pertinent information, as everyone else has done. Thanks.

Valthrik Malhyn |

Just a small point, and I guess I should have asked if it was ok earlier, but I'm using a "English to Latin" translator app for all of Valthrik's incantations, if that's cool with everyone?
Just checking.

Khala Skawe |

I have no problem with you using Latin for your spell names. And as for how you derive it, I don’t have a problem with a translator app…
I appreciate the courtesy.

Riuzi Rik-Tuk |

Sorry, busy weekend. I'll post tomorrow.

Valthrik Malhyn |

I'm here! I'm back.
The last few days, while I've had moments of being able to log in through my phone, I've been having massive issues trying to get on to post something on my PC when I get home from work. Just crazy.
A friend suggested logging all the way out of the site and then back in, and thankfully that seems to have worked. I used to just stay logged in all the time, but no more.
Anyway, back and posting! Apologies on my delay.

Riuzi Rik-Tuk |

@Riuizi - I’m a little confused. First, it’s a critical on a natural 20, so everything is doubled. Then I’d need a better breakdown of what you are adding. Beak is 6, deadly is 5. What is the +3 from? Then, to my understanding, Personal antithesis creates Weakness 3 to your strike. I don’t *think* you can add Implement’s Empowerment (+2 to damage) to a Beak attack as it specifies the weapon you are “holding”… So if the +3 is from Strength or Dex then you would have 6+5+3 = 14 x 2 = 28 damage, with the goblin having weakness 3 to the attack. Pretty sure he’s bird food…
(Moving this to Discussion, so we don't clutter Gameplay)
Khala, I really appreciate your help keeping me honest. I'm still learning 2e so I may well've gotten it wrong, but here's what I tried to do. Corrections welcome:
- Rolled 6 for beak +3 STR = 9. Double that to 18.
- Rolled 5 for deadly (which doesn't get doubled, right?)
- ...and then somewhat muddled personal antithesis & implement's empowerment.
This makes me realize I have a few Qs for our GM:
1) Personal antithesis (which Khala just reminded me adds a weakness, rather than adding damage) says "2 + half your level". I read that as meaning 2 at L1 (since I think the default is to round down), but let me know.
2) I forgot all about implement's empowerment, but just read it with an eye to where it says "holding", since Khala called that out.
When you Strike, you can trace mystic patterns with an implement you're holding to empower the Strike, causing it to deal 2 additional damage per weapon damage die. Channeling the power requires full use of your hands. You don't gain the benefit of implement's empowerment if you are holding anything in either hand other than a single one-handed weapon, other implements, or esoterica, and you must be holding at least one implement to gain the benefit.[/dice]
I'm pretty sure that it still works with unarmed attacks and natural attacks (as long as one is (a) holding their implement, and (b) not holding anything other than "a single one-handed weapon, other implements, or esoterica, and you must be holding at least one implement to gain the benefit.") I *think* this also is OK with me holding a shield (since a shield is a one-handed weapon) as long as it's the *only* thing I'm holding, other than my implement/esoterica. But please let me know!

Khala Skawe |

@Riuzi:
*Crits/Deadly: We can all keep each other honest! I'm still learning too...
You are absolutely right: Deadly *only* activates on a crit, and isn't doubled. So you should have (6 + 3) x2 = 18 + 5 for 23 with weakness 2 (sorry, not weakness 3... got confused with my Thaumaturge in another game who *is* 2nd level...)
* Implement: hmm, as long as you are a) holding your implement and b) not holding anything in your other hand that isn't from the list (single one-handed weapon, other implements, or esoterica) I'd say it works with a beak attack. I think I half/misread the "holding" sentence, and conflating the tracing of the sigils with my thaumaturge, who has the Weapon implement, for added confusion...
So if the Implements Empowerment does work with a beak it would be (6 + 3 + 2) x2 = 22 + 5 for 27 with weakness 2. Which is weird because somehow you got 23 and 27, but I really couldn't understand how you arrived at any of your numbers!

Runelord_GM |

Hey all, I've been recovering from non-Covid illness. I will update thread tomorrow. Thanks for your patience.

Riuzi Rik-Tuk |

Looks like we're waiting on an action from Valthrik, but definitely seems like time to DMPC or just skip his turn, if DM is OK and around.

Runelord_GM |

Everyone, apologies for my absence. I am completely healthy and ready to jump back in the game tonight.
