Gaius Marius |
Cara moves up to get closer, pleading with the man to fight.
Get up and fight, blast it! You have a life to live!
[dice=diplomacy]1d20+7
Great roll, now he'll attack us. 8)
GM Bret |
Evidently Cara’s words had some effect on the man, has he comes out of his fetal hall and stands. Then he looks around saying “Anyone see my staff?”
You can now give him orders and he will do his best to follow them. He is slightly hurt with non-lethal damage and has no weapon.

Gaius Marius |
The GM crossed out the Yellow Mite so I think it's dead?
GM Bret |
The young man realizes that the danger is past.
With a somewhat embarrassed wave, he greets Nixa and she responds. Seems they know each other by name but are likely only acquaintances.
Then he turns to the rest of you. “Hello, I’m Olaus. Since I don’t recognize any of you and Nixa is in your presence, I’m going to guess you are either with the army or are adventurers.”
Kicking the dead mite, he adds “Thanks for the save!” He seems friendly enough.

"Greetings, I am Gaius Marius, Inquisitor of Hathor. I doubt the army would be as well trained and equipped as we are; you're correct we're adventurers. As Alazmak (Gaius gestures to Azalmak) asked, how did you get to be here in this predicament?"
While addressing Olaus, Gaius also spares a moment to retrieve his Wand of Cure Light Wounds and heal John.
@GM: Since John only has 2 damage, and the minimum healed is 2, I won't bother with a roll.

"Calf? Where is this 'calf'? Shall we search for it? Or would you like to explain yourself and why you're really here?"
Gaius Marius |
Diplomacy: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
"Cracking" John |
"You would have us believe you are a poor rancher." John snarls at Olaus. "But, I believe you are an even poorer liar. Speak the truth or more than a calf will be let loose!'

Although both Gaius and Cara try gently urging Olaus to be truthful, it is John’s more direct and threatening manner that does the trick. He was planning to steal something from the Sarini Estate to prove to his friends that he is not a coward. The mites and centipede attacked him outside the estate’s gate and chased him to this spot on Noble’s Folly.

He was planning to steal something from the Sarini Estate to prove to his friends that he is not a coward. The mites and centipede attacked him outside the estate’s gate and chased him to this spot on Noble’s Folly.
Gaius 'tsks' Olaus and says, "Now was that so difficult? How many other youth participate in this particular game? Has anyone ever been inside the Sarini Estate and brought back an item?"
Gaius Marius |
“Um…none that I know of. That was why it would prove my bravery.”
Turning to the rest of the group Gaius asks, "I don't think we can spare the time to escort Olaus back to Saringallow correct? Perhaps we can put him to work on our mission yes?"
Evelyn Kellbor |
You should scamper off, and wait us at the border of the town. We'll find you something to prove your "bravery", and you will be able to choose whether to fool your friends and be honorable and tell the truth. With the weight of your lies on your soul, and the risk of carrying your deception your whole life, with people hoping to watch you being brave should the occasion arise.
"Cracking" John |
"Do you know anything more of the manor you intended to loot?" asks John. "Or did you plan simply to venture in blindly like a fool?"
GM Bret |
“The estate was supposed to be deserted! Not filled with nasty creatures with purple spots.”
Olaus mutters “I’m not a fool. I just didn’t plan on meeting any monsters.”
With the work you have done destroying the goblin forces and their fortress the area is safer than when you arrived. Given that you have come across nothing threatening until now, most of you think that Olaus could make it back to town on his own. The rest of you wonder how he survived this long. Some of you may not be sure he could be trusted to use an outhouse without falling in.
GM Bret |

Evelyn: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Olaus heads back towards Saringallow as you continue along Noble’s Folly. It only takes you a few minutes walk before the estate comes into view.
The rusted, badly bent iron gate to this walled estate is dirty and hangs ajar, creaking gently in the breeze. The lawn is overgrown, and a thick tangle of vines has crept up the walls of the opulent estate building. An abandoned stable occupies the southwest corner of the grounds, and to the east, more buildings lie partly hidden behind bushes and crooked trees.
Map on slide 7, figure your group is about 30’ off the map.
Everyone except Azalmak realizes that it isn’t dirt on the gate, but rather demon bile.
"Cracking" John |
John draws his cold iron mace and touches it to the demon bile.
"Be careful," he tells the others as he boldly strides toward the stable door.
Gaius Marius |
Gaius, bow in hand, follows behind John and Azalmak.

Special Attacks paralysis (1d4+1 rounds, DC 12), surprise reach
SPECIAL ABILITIES
Revolting Taste (Ex) Any creature that deals damage to a drochtac with a bite attack must succeed at a DC 12 Fortitude saving throw or be nauseated for 1 round and sickened for 1d4 rounds. A creature that succeeds at the saving throw is sickened for only 1 round. This is a poison effect. The save DC is Constitution-based.
Surprise Reach (Ex) As part of a full attack, a drochtac can extend the reach of all its natural attacks by 5 feet. This grants the drochtac a +2 bonus on its attack rolls, but imposes a –2 penalty on its AC until the start of its next turn.
Paralysis duration: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 You can act in Round 2. Unfortunately you have no way to speak while paralyzed,

Cara steps away from the lizard thing in order to attack the mite. Her attack misses.
John rushes up and just barely manages to hit the mite. Although the aim was poor, the power was more than sufficient to take the creature out.

My apologies, I will redirect the hit to the lizard thing and not have you move.

"How unpleasant. The creature that paralyzed me was called a Drochtac. It is a medium sized evil fey. It is resistant to physical damage except by cold iron weapons. It is best known for the paralyzing bite and how horrible it tastes. Any creature trying to bite it is at least sickened, those who get a good taste of it (failing their Fortitude save) are nauseated and then sickened.
It’s a full attack, it is able to stretch out its neck and both arms to gain reach on the three attacks. This gains them an offensive bonus but opens them up to a counter attack."
"Not that it matters now but in case we see another one."
Plus it was one of the few good rolls I've made recently.
