Entry Eleven: The track down the Sellen River was unbearable. Although Captain Shearwart did his best to accommodate our clergy, the trip was tedious. Luckily, we didn’t encounter any of the river patrols that we thought might come across our path. Once we reach Cassomir, we should be boarding a sea vessel large enough to accommodate our trip to Korvosa. We haven’t heard anything from our contacts from that regen for quite some time but the shipping lanes in that area are flush with potential. I suspect, after greasing the wheel a bit, we can pick up a few extra girls Korvosa. After resupplying, we will head to Magnimar, where Jonavan has arranged for four new girls. The pickup should be smooth, considering the area is well off the beaten path. From there, we will head to Sandpoint and meet with Gidra. Her and her crew should have a solid number for us.
Entry Fourteen: We have brokered a deal with the curator of the Quarterfaux Archive’s Darrick Humphry. He heads one of Caliphas’s underground gangs, which governs the city’s sewer system. The oversized system should take us directly to the temple without having to navigate through the city with the girls.
Entry Twenty-Three: We have collected fourteen girls in total, which should be enough to justify this trip. Adding these girls to our total should please Lord Eastabon. Assuming he doesn’t eliminate any of them, we should have enough to attempt the Gulden Ritual. If the ancient text is correct, this could free Tar-Baphon.
Entry Twenty-Seven: After investigating a disturbance that took place late last night, we have concluded that Sandpoint is aware of our operation. This could undermine our plans if they choose to pursue things further. I have decided, at no small expense, to attempt an old ritual called the awakening. If successful, it will leave Sandpoint with enough on their plate to keep them occupied for quite some time.
Entry Twenty-Seven: is the last entry within the journal.
Copied Ledger Note:
“Lost Minimum Wage Guy:” On the seventh page, second entry: The curator of the Quarterfaux Archive’s Museum, which is a subdivision of the archive, is requesting help locating a missing assistant. The contract offers round trip accommodations aboard a merchant vessel to Caliphas and four paid nights at a location of the group’s choice. The contract offers 1,000 gp on completion, with another 1,000 gp if the assistant is returned. The contract is sponsored by the Quarterfaux Archive. The listed contact is the museum’s curator Cynthia Nail.
“No More Squatters:” On the sixth page, first entry: A request to investigate and eliminate suspected cult activity north of Caliphas, in Ustalav, stands out as one of the higher paying contracts. The contract provides comfortable round-trip travel and accommodations at the Vodavani Lodge for the group’s entire stay. The contract offers 2,000 gp upon conformation of the cult and another 6,000 gp if they are eliminated. The sponsor for the contract is the Royal House of Ordranti. The listed contact is Lord Leopold the III.
Same, to be honest. I know how frustrating it can be when the dice decide not to cooperate and make our characters look less like Lord of the Rings and more like The Three Stooges.
Tonight is going to be 99% likely that I have to do mandatory overtime. I won't be able to post tomorrow because of it. Next post will likely be Monday, late evening some time.

Well...here it goes:
I have been diagnosed with a bad ticker. And they are in a hurry to get it fixed: Next Tuesday I will be getting open heart surgery and a Heart Bypass at my local VA. That means I will be in the hospital for at least a week of recovery and home resting after that for weeks. I will attempt to keep up with my games, at least by phone for now, but I cannot guarantee anything after next Monday yet. That's assuming I survive. They gave me a pretty low percentage of something going wrong, but with any surgery you never know...
I am still available between now and next Monday however. If you need anything from me for this game until then, just let me know.
Either way, please feel free to bot my character as needed after next Monday, and I hope to get back to all my PbP games (by phone at least) as soon as I can. Hopefully by...Christmas? We'll see I guess.
=)
Wow. Sounds like you have a bumpy road ahead. My best wishes on the process. Rest assured that this game isn’t going anywhere any time soon. I designed it with longevity in mind. More or less, a marathon, not a sprint. That said, I would suspect that a low impact distraction will likely be welcome down the road. Reduced activity during the healing process equals boredom. For that reason, I intend to shadow Govrina during your down time. That way you can post when you feel up to it and take a step back when you don’t. Kind of how Muziel has been doing. I can keep that up for as long as it takes. So, going forward, feel free to post at will. I will work with your timing. During initiative events, I will slot your post in accordingly, regardless of when you post it. With all that, I truly hope everything goes smoothly for you.

Thank you all. Technically I feel fine right now. No chest pains or anything. I had some shortness of breath about a year ago, but that went away when I changed my diet (Less nitrates...or is it nitrites? Whatever is in cheap processed meat a lot).
Had some weird pressure on my left side (like someone was sticking his hand under my ribs). No pain really.
But my doctor wanted to do some tests, then some tests were off, and they lead to more tests...until bam! I evidently have 5 arteries clogged on the left side of my heart (2 of which are at 90%!).
So now we rush to do bypass surgery. I'm not looking forward to it...but I have to do it for my 9 year old son. He lives with me (his mother moved to Boston) and I need to make sure I can stick around for the long haul as much as possible.

I've said it elsewhere, but as Lia also said elsewhere, everywhere for luck. We're rooting for you and expect to see you back in sound shape soon enough!

FINALLY: That's it! I'm off to bed and a 6am call at the VA. Wish me luck and I will see you all on the other side hopefully. Please bot my character as needed until I can post again later this week at some point. Everybody have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

OK, I'm back home and can try and post when I can. No guarantees. but I will try and keep up.
From the GM reminder: "Talienda takes a look at the lighter potion but concludes the same thing. (I will require 2 more spell craft checks if you wish to attempt to ID the quilted armor and the studded leather)."
Should I learn Knowledge (Arcana) for the future? As a backup at least?
I can't cast detect magic, but that's something I don't mind putting point into the future.
Also, I would like to look into getting a pair of cold-iron gauntlets made so I can use Kinetic Fist with them...eventually. No hurry.
Glad to hear your home and recovering. I have been delaying slightly to allow a little time for your return and the holiday a pass. That and to hopefully hear from Bryndis. With Muziel stepping out, any help with Knowledge arcane should be helpful. Right now, Talienda is your group's primary connection to the arcane. Of course, if something becomes too difficult to ID, other options could be sought out that would simply cost a little coin.
By the sound of it, the group's majority seems set on escorting the girls back to Sandpoint. I will work on a game post and should have something up by tomorrow night.

Happy New Year Everyone!
Great to see you back Govrina!
With the holidays behind me now, I'm back. Things should be settled down and I will have free time again.
Welcome back Bryndis. I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays. A quick heads up, there is a 50/50 chance I get hit with OT tonight. If so, there will be a slight delay on the GM post. If not, I should have a post up by tonight.
I'm with Bryndis. I think they'll chance the Hold of Belkzen and the Cinderlands rather than sail all that way and still have to go past Razmiran and Galt.

It’s possible our prisoners think the girls are going to Ustalav, but are just guessing too. Im just saying trekking across Belkzen and the Cinderlands (loosely ruled by orcs and giants respectively) while dragging prisoners across both would be extremely hard.
Those are good points. From the sounds of it, though, this is the only lead we have and it sounds like we're not going to have a chance to catch them before they weigh anchor.

I agree crossing Belkzen is a hassle, but so is kidnapping slaves in the Sandpoint area for Ustalav. If you're looking for a place where you can readily nab people without much notice, why not choose the River Kingdoms directly to the east, or Ustalav itself for that matter? So I have to think there's more to the story than we know so far.
From the posts I read, it sounds like the ship was preparing to sail. Once it's on the move we can't catch it in anything except a fast sailing vessel, and none of us know how to sail. That means we don't just need a fast ship, we need a crewed fast ship that's ready and willing to take us on a chase right now.
The real point of the post was if we hurry and move fast, we can get to Magnimar by land as fast or faster than the ship can if we leave right now.
If they're going to Korvosa instead they have the advantage going by sea. But if from Korvosa they're taking the road north to Kaer Maga before turning east (meaning they're using the established caravan routes), we might be able to beat them to Kaer Maga because of the considerably greater distance their route involves compared to overland.
If they're heading to a different port, or not going to Ustalav at all, etc. we're screwed.
EDIT: I checked Varisia Birthplace of Legends, which actually gives mileage between locations. It's 54 miles overland from Sandpoint to Magnimar.
Unfortunately, the overtime happened leaving me heading in today with only four hours of sleep. This is going to creat a delay on my post. On the good side of things, today is my Friday, so I will have a little extra time to work on the post, which will likely be up sometime tomorrow. Sorry for the delay. I also wanted to clarify that virtually all the bad guys stabilized. So the two bosses and most the guards are considered part of your captives and can be questioned.

If we want to interrogate all the prisoners more, we will need the sheriff’s help. I have intimidate as a class skill, but Diplomacy might work better in this instance.

Bryndís isn't the best choice for either route. That said, she wouldn't be able to help with diplomacy. They've passed their 'sweet-talk by' date with her. She could really put her heart into helping to terrify them though.
I wanted to let everyone know, seeing Muziel stepped down, I extended an offer to someone to join this game if they have the bandwidth and are looking for another game. One of the games I have been playing in is closing down and this player has been a solid role player and has been fairly consistent. I thought they might be a good addition to our band of adventurers.
