You can post your characters here, along with any questions that pop up.
The campaign setting is the Wilderlands, which is rather old-school and kind of points-of-light, so you don't need to bother with it if you don't want to. Also I appreciate if you stick to core material as far as possible, at least to begin with.
The adventure takes place in an old mansion, home to an aristocratic family that has seen better days. Rather cliché, I'm afraid, but then I've always had a soft spot for Castle Amber.
You'll figure it out, I'm sure. At any rate you can't do worse than a table-top group of mine that behaved so abominably as to get kicked out of the mansion before the adventure even started.
Black Tom |
Are we staying in the Chateau? Are we boarders? Visiting as friends of the family? (This really is Père Goriot already, isn't it?)
None of the above. You just stumble into it. (Unless of course I come up with a better hook.) But if you like, you could have friends or relatives there (at least among the servants).

Right now what I am working with is a character named Mull Chorrik, a dwarven cleric of chaos and madness. He's a little bit eccentric, but also quite friendly. If there's a mansion on the road and a bunch of people are going to crash a party there, he's down.

Black Tom:
I'm cool if you don't want another player, but if you do, then I have a concept in mind.
* A Ghul Wizard who is a sort of Detective.
The Ghul is a +1LA race, but they look fairly balanced against the Pathfinderized Races and so I was thinking of doing away with the +1LA. James/Jason have said that one of the reasons for the tweaking of the races was to make +1LA races playable as +0LA under Pathfinder rules. This is not cannon though, and won't be until late next year I fear, so I won't be upset if you say no. Also, I have no idea where Roglaras is, I can't find it on the Wilderlands Map and I don't have any sourcebooks. If it is nowhere near CSotIO then I also won't be upset if you say no.
If the above concept is unacceptable, then I was thinking a:
* Human Sorcerer (possibly Elemental Bloodline, but not set in stone yet).
I notice that there are certain ethnicities of Humans. Are there any special Rules or Stats for the individual breeds, or do they all just use the Standard Human?

Floppy: that looks like a cool character, but you may have a rough time when strange things start to happen, drawing suspicion and so on. But on the other hand, if you can roll with it, it could be a lot of fun.

Love that idea. Mwuhahaha... heh. Smells like a challenge. I can roll like that.

So I guess we're good to go then. I'll start up a thread in the play-by-post forum and you could get to know each other, doing some smalltalk and so on.
You start on the road to Zerthstone Here is WorsT's excellent map of the area.
Why you are going there and why you are travelling together is up to you. Seeking adventure and banding together for protection is good enough for me, but you might want to elaborate.
Any late bloomers can catch up with you shortly. By the way, I'm sorry if I haven't answered all questions. I've been down with a bad cold the last couple of days and the board monster ate a number of my posts. Please ask again.
Concerning the human races, the differences are minor. Alryans get a +1 to Diplomacy, and Skandiks and Tharbrians don't speak Common as an automatic languages. They also have a few skills that are class skills for them (like Ride for Tharbrians or Sail for Skandiks). Flavor-wise, someone said that Alryans are somewhat like Romans, while Skandiks are obviously Vikings and Tharbrians Mongolians. That's a very rough sketch, anyway.
Shawnee Allegressa |
Meet Shawnee Allegressa.
She's a Detective along the lines of an Inquisitive from the Eberron Setting. At this point she's a Sorcerer, but I think I will throw in a level or two of Rogue as well.
Hopefully I will have time to enter the rest of her stats tonight (I have a lot of work to get through tonight, starting in about 15 minutes, after I finish chillin').

This is my (renewal's plume) monk.
Sorry about vanishing. I couldn't get access to the internet until now. Mother nature likes to throw us canadians a few curve balls every now and then.
I feel like I should point out that Gauri's skill ranks aren't quite right. As I read the Pathfinder rules, a character can only have ranks in skills equal to the number of HD that character has; that is, none of us starting characters should have more than 1 rank in any skill. Sorry to be a party pooper. And sorry, Black Tom, if I've usurped your GM role here, but since we are now underway with play, I thought it would be important to note this before we get much further.
Also, all characters get a bonus of +3 to any class skill that they take a rank in. In Gauri's case, this may actually give her better bonuses than she has currently recorded with some of her skills, as it doesn't look like this bonus has been applied yet. ;)
Thanks,
Flop.

...and Felicia, don't forget your halfling bonus to saves.
Also some details I forgot to mention: I use the taint rules from Heroes of Horror and a system with Hero points that can be spent in diverse situations. You all start with one hero point but you get more for accomplishing story goals and for impressing the DM (like with a good backstory).
Here's what you can use them fore
Hero points are a house-rule at my table. They are awarded for great role-playing, selfless bravery, good ideas or anything that makes your DM happy. Feel free to nominate each other, too. You all start with one hero point, and are also awarded more as you complete important objectives. I don't know the original source so you might recognize the system.
Hero points can be spent to achieve certain bonuses:
1 hp: add +2 to any d20 roll before rolling (up to 5 may be spent on any one roll)
1 hp: automatically stabilize
2 hp: maximize one damage die
3 hp: roll twice for hp when levelling up, taking the best result
4 hp: get one bonus skill point
5 hp: re-roll any roll
5 hp: get one extra standard action
10 hp: force an NPC or other player to reroll
20 hp: get a bonus feat
30 hp: increase an ability score
I'm also using the medium xp progression but that won't probably come into play until the adventure is finished.

Hey Black Tom, I just posted a bit about Mull's clerical powers for your consideration here.
I'd like for Mull to be from some cold, mountainous place? Is there a place like that in the Wilderlands setting that wouldn't be too far away or far-fetched? If I have that element, I think I can work up an interesting backstory. Actually, even without it, I'll come up with something, but I really would like him to be a snow dwarf, if such a thing is at all possible.

I don't know if you need an arctic background or if a permanently snow-capped mountain range would do it for you. Either way, go ahead. I'll need to read up on Wilderlands geography, but we'll work something out.

Sorry if the game is moving too slowly. New job taking a chunk out of me.
This is how I'd like to run this game: I'll try to post at least once a day, and whether there are any responses or not, I'll move the action forward. I hope that will bring at least some excitement back.

Wow I just checked this thread for the first time in a couple weeks. I'll work on that backstory sometime.
