we still need 2 more i believe, and definitely someone with piloting skills. if needs be steel can swap into that in favor of someone else with decent engineering

of course this is all subject to change and situation, just looking at the numbers so far. cuz its what i do.

Not really, as long as I have your sheets and some baseline lore/fluff for your characters, we can just kind of drop you in and see what happens :)


So to recap, I see Lucia's character sheet in Roll20, I've received Asla's and STLE's through IM. Nakotre and Misericordia are set up in the forums here.

Once Reinhardt is ready in R20 I believe we will be all set for the initial post outside some tweaking of sheets here or there. If all of you don't mind, please just sound off and confirm when you're ready and I'll put the first post in Gameplay.

I could always shift a point from something onto piloting which would put me at +7 and would give us a stop gap at least.

Good news and not-so-good news time! Good news is, the majority of Nakotre's background is done! Not-so-good news is there's one portion I'm still trying to figure out: a secret he's keeping. I'm using the Ten-Minute Background model for Nakotre.

1. Nakotre is a Vaster, having spent most of his life on various space vessels and stations.
2. He is a hulking megalonyxa, standing about 10 ft. tall, big enough that heavy weapons sized for medium humanoids almost appears like handguns in his hands. He has a warm, baritone voice.
3. Nakotre is a primarily self-taught technomancer, though he has obtained the appropriate degrees and licenses via infosphere courses.
4. He has performed freelance technomancy and maintenance work for a number of different corporations and organizations across the Pact Worlds and the Veskarium.
5. His personality is friendly and unflappable. Very little in this galaxy surprises him, and while he can seem passive, he's immovable and stubborn in the face of corruption and cruelty.

1. When the Drift Crisis is about to commence, I'd like Nakotre to have a moment where he realizes what is about to happen and says "Well, this is gonna suck." I feel like it'd encapsulate his personality perfectly!
2. At some point in the future, it might be interesting for Nakotre to visit Karnoq, the abandoned megalonyxa homeworld, and explore the past of his people and himself, and the impacts those may have on his future.

2. Nakotre doesn't know it, but the Aspis Consortium has been tracking his movements after he completed a contract with them. They know he won't willingly work for them, so they're eager to find ways to deceive him into doing things for them or determine ways his actions can advance their agendas.
3. Secret to be determined by the GM!

1. Qulhota, Nakotre's younger sister, is more settled than he is, having a permanent residence on Absalom Station, yet she's somehow more excitable too, happy to live "where the action is!" Nakotre can always count on being able to crash on her couch between contracts and residencies.
2. Haamori, a verthani technician, was giving a presentation on a solution for an issue his company was having, and hoping to be promoted for it, when Nakotre, who'd been hired on as a freelancer, proposed an alternative seemingly on the spot that was cheaper and more efficient, humiliating him. Haamori has never forgiven him for this, but Nakotre doesn't even really remember him.
3. Lezre, a nuar and member of the Starforgers who has hired Nakotre in the past to assist with the guild's research into starmetal applications. She admires his intellect and dependability, though she is slightly disappointed he turned down her offer to join the guild formally.

1. One of the most vivid memories Nakotre keeps is when he cast his first spell. He immediately ran to his parents and demonstrated it, causing an accident that made a terrible mess in the kitchen. His parents laughed and told him they were proud of him, then they worked together to clean it up.
2. Nakotre's looks fondly on the first time he entered the Drift aboard a starship. It was exhilarating to watch the darkness of space and white light of the stars melt into the bright multitude of colors of the plane. He stared in wide-eyed wonder and thought that this must be how the first megalonyxas to leave Karnoq felt, and if that was the case, he could see why they never looked back.
3. A memory that Nakotre doesn't like thinking about was when he freelanced for a bit for the Aspis Consortium. He frequently encountered tasks and requests that required him to look the other way, people who were too self-assured and callous for his liking and saw other people who were harmed by it that he wasn't allowed to help. When the contract was up, he gave his former employer the finger and declared he'd never work with them or their associates ever again.

Wow, that's a very interesting block of lore for Nakotre! Wonder if I should've thought about Asla's backstory a bit more...


That's entirely up to you Asla, if you're the type to come up with it as you go that's totally fine.

Since it got my mind percolating, I did most of the 10-minute background provided by our giant sloth friend, Nakotre, and used it to write more backstory onto her character sheet.


I'm pretty much ready to go. Might poke at the 10-minute backstory thing to flesh Lucia out more while waiting for things to start but everything else is pretty much set.

Last I heard from them was on the 22nd while discussing background stuff between the characters in PMs since they were going to be partners but otherwise nothing.

so it looks like nakotre's computers and engineering skills are even better than steel's and miseracordias. that would put him as best suited for EITHER science officer or engineer (so far). im supposing the second soldier, if they are joining, would likely serve best as a second gunner.

Hey team, so we've just had BlackDow bow out of the game, and I haven't heard from Kallasker either. That brings us down to 4 of our original 6 we were going to get started with. The good news is the last 4 of you have been posting actively, so if we'd like to start with this crew (after making a few adjustments to ship stats etc.) That's fine with me. We can add more later if needed/wanted.

Well rats. That was both of our soldiers wasn't it? That leaves us with no dedicated gunners. Steel can serve in a pinch but that leaves us with no pilot. I guess steel can pilot and do snap shots till we get someone else with a base attack bonus or ranks in piloting? Seems the best choice mechanically for now.

So that leaves us with a mystic, two technomancers, and a mechanic yeah?

I'm fine with starting with who we have. In fact I'm sort of coming at the bit to get going.


BlackDow's Character was Misercordia, a Biohacker. So you still have one. Full party comp is Mystic, Tech, Mech, Soldier now.

Honestly, with how the game is probably going to get started, I think we have time to figure out who goes in what starship role before we even get to the starship parts. Especially if we get a couple people to join as the game starts.

I'm also anxious to get started, but I still wouldn't mind some late entries just to round out the team. Otherwise, I stand at the ready!

What Asla said. Better to get this rolling and worry about filling slots later than having it stall out tbh. Worst case scenario we pull an FTL and have people shuffle around as the situation calls for it on the ship front.

Seconded. Only change I could think of would be a flak thrower on the turret for point defense but since that'd require reshuffling other stuff to make room it's probably not worth worrying about at the moment.

i -could- lose the ablative armor and the turret laser for a flak thrower if everyone thinks that would be best... but i think those extra temp hp really add a needed bit of tank to this rugged little survey vessel.

maybe once we get a few more levels we can upgrade to that? if we keep stacking the ablative armor the ships TL will suffer a bit and the flak thrower will make even more sense to keep missiles off our tail.
