It looks like both Red & Green are flat-footed, and the other two are hooking up cables... so I'm going to guess they don't have weapons at the ready to react.

Barat shoves his way past the thoroughly discombobulated henchmen, taking point near the ones who are hooking up the cables.

I have Improved Combat Maneuver(Sunder). I would like to use that to break through one of the cables in the hands of one of the cronies. If there's a cable that's already connected, I'll attack that one, because presumably it has a lower AC than the KAC+8.

Grenades target a grid intersection, not a person, so I don't think you get the Get 'Em bonus ... but your target DC is only 5 ... which doesn't matter if your roll is a 1. ;) You have to roll something to see how it deviates, ...

Missing with a thrown weapon wrote:
If you miss on a ranged attack with a thrown weapon, the weapon lands in a random square or grid intersection as appropriate near your target. To determine where it lands, roll 1d8. This determines the initial misdirection of the throw, with 1 falling short (off-target in a straight line toward the thrower), and 2 through 8 rotating around the target creature or grid intersection in a clockwise direction, as illustrated in the diagram above. After you’ve determined the misdirection of the throw, roll 1d4. The result is how many squares away in that direction the weapon lands. Source

Since incendiary grenade 1 has a 5-foot explosion, my vote would be to aim where Green/Yellow/Red intersect. If you roll 3 on your D8 and 1 on the d4, then you'd still hit three of them (and me, but I can take it). Of course, there's also a chance you're going to blow up our loot.

If we're going to be using grenades, I would suggest chucking them at the helicopter.

"It would be easier to secure the package, boss, if you would stop throwing grenades at the package... not to mention me."

The sound of combat almost drowns out the crackle of the comm unit and the sound of Arda’s voice. “What in tarnation’s goin’ on down there? Whatever ya done, it’s alerted every damn body on the train, and...” She trails off. “I can’t get in there with the other chopper down there, even if the bulls weren’t all riled up to shoot me down. ‘Specially not with y’all so close to the—”

The comm goes silent with a blast of static as Royce looks down at you with an evil grin.

The shifty SRO tricks Red into looking the other way and then shoots him in the leg. It nearly takes his leg off, and he’s left barely able to stand. That doesn’t prevent him from carefully stepping away from Barat and returning fire at LNA.

Semi-auto pistol: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
But the pain and blood loss are clearly too much for him.

Barat slips between the thugs and his tentacle glows with entropic energy. He strikes the coupler that Blue is holding. It breaks in half then begins to dissolve, and Blue suddenly drops it to the floor of the car. ”What the…? Hey, don’t do that,” he admonishes Barat as he draws his sword and retaliates.

Sword: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Like his buddy, he misses horribly, though he doesn’t have the excuse of being mangled.

Kevan pushes the copter away with the grav beam forcing Royce to fight the controls to maintain his position. Green begins to ascend on an auto-winch just as Yellow finishes hooking up the last grapple connection. Then he too begins to ascend. Barat may take an AO against Yellow.

Barat 1, Kevan 2: 1d2 ⇒ 2
Royce says something to the gunner, who shifts his aim at the bear targeting his ride.
Artillery laser: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Royce should really have paid more for some thugs that could actually hit something.

Good timing Aramesh. You can’t edit a post on the Paizo forums after 1 hour. I was just about to post based on the grenade thing, but yeah, I can see you wrote ranged shot. Fair enough.
Aramesh tries to shoot into the mix. But he really needs to practice, or just go back to being the Face.

Kevan can see several cables dangling from Royce’s enerocopter. Green ascended one, and as Yellow starts to rise, Barat lashes out and amputates the thug’s arm. He manages to get the rest of the way up, though, spraying blood all over the crates, the grav crane, and the body of the eel before Green tends to the wound to staunch the bleeding.

Barat then turns his attention to the guy with the sword. The boosted entropic forces in his tentacles slice straight through the thug, leaving a pair of legs standing for a split second before falling to the deck plates. It’s really a bad day to be working for Royce.

The Gentleman Thief and amateur pilot continues struggling to control the copter, but it got a little easier when Kevan twitched the control handle the wrong way. With two thugs aboard and one in pieces below, Royce starts reeling in his score. It wobbles but begins to rise off the flooring.

Kevan, you can make Engineering checks instead of attack rolls. But a 4 on the die still doesn’t clear the DC of 19.

LNA takes Red’s other leg off, and the thug drops dead before his torso even hits the floor plates. He only had 2 hp left

Aramesh flies up to just above the open car rooftop and pulls a grenade from his belt. As he cocks his arm back, he glances towards the front of the train, and what he sees takes only a split second to sink in. Grenade still in hand, he dives back down into the cargo car, screaming ”GET DOWN!”

What Aramesh saw was the rapidly approaching entrance to a massive tunnel through the mountain range separating Steepshore from the desert. Royce’s enerocopter suddenly slams into the wall just above the entrance and explodes in a fireball killing (almost) everyone aboard.

As luck would have it, Royce witnessed Aramesh’s panicked dive and looked up glimpsing the tunnel entrance just in time to leap free a moment before impact. He lands at the back of the car next to one of the storage compartments, flings open the nearest locker door, and seals it behind him.

The crates drop back to the ground, the cables having been severed by flaming shrapnel and debris. They’re practically right where they had been and apparently undamaged.

The grav-train rushes on through darkness broken by the regular flickering of lights mounted on the tunnel walls. The sound of whistling wind overhead is replaced by an ominous silence as the train barrels down the tunnel at top speed, its frictionless runners barely making enough sound to echo off the cavernous walls as they fly by.

You’ve got the artifact, but the train has been alerted to your presence, and you’re trapped in a tunnel headed for an underground complex crawling with law enforcement and Ixo goons. Your only consolation might be that Royce is worse off than you are, as it quickly becomes apparent that the storage compartment in which he took refuge can’t be opened from either side; the main console has gone into lockdown mode along with the doors at both ends of the car, and it can’t be used.

Suddenly, your comm units crackle to life, and after a moment of static, you recognize Arda’s voice. “Come in! Are ya alive in there? Did ya make it? Damn! I was sure y’all were gonna cash in back there. That’s on me for doubting ya, I guess. Listen, I reckon ya ain’t got long before that train pulls into Steepshore, and that oughta be more than enough time for Ixo to throw together one helluva welcome wagon. If ya could handle that last hullabaloo, though, I suppose ya could still wriggle outta this.”

“So listen up. I know a spot about a mile outside the station where I can set down and wait for ya; I’ll send ya the coordinates. Ya make it out there alive, and we might still pull this thing off. It ain’t gonna be easy, but I’ll do what I can. Ya still in the cargo car? Tell me what yer thinkin’, and I’ll check the manifest and see if any o’ them crates has anything useful inside.”

See Discussion please.

Grand Lodge

Lost and Forgotten

As you take a minute to discuss your options, LNA and Kevan sway the team to consider trying to get out of the terminal as quickly as possible. Briefing Arda of your plan, she comms back, “Just gonna burn breeze, eh? Honestly, probably the best idea. If I know Ixo, they’ll bring out the big guns for something like this. I think I seen somethin’ on the manifest about a buncha vehicles in one o’ them containers. Let’s get that open and see if we can light on somethin’ speedy enough to get ya outta there in one piece,” your jububnan copter pilot says with a hint of respect in her voice.

Arda directs you to the other large cargo container in the car. Like the other crates, it’s already unlocked. Inside is a two-level rack containing four classic hover cruisers in pristine condition.

Your sweet sweet ride

Culture or Piloting DC 19:
You recognize that the vehicles are worth more than 18,000 credits each, probably bound for a private collection.

Engineering or Piloting DC 14:
You notice that the cruisers have been custom modified for speed and should make excellent getaway vehicles.

While there are enough cars for everyone, it’s apparent from your predicament that you’d be wise to squeeze into one car and let LNA drive. It’ll be a tight fit with Kevan taking the shotgun seat so that his bulk shares space with the small pilot, and he might end up hanging partially out the window anyway.

You’ve got about 10 minutes to rest if you so choose. (I assume Barat takes 10 to restore Stamina. If you opt not to in order to preserve Resolve, let me know.)

As everyone gets settled into their seats, and with the artifact safely stowed in the trunk, the grav-train begins slowing and shortly hums to a stop. The darkness of the tunnel is abruptly replaced by the bright interior lights of the Steepshore train terminal augmented by numerous spotlights all targeted on cargo car 67C.

Under normal circumstances, this platform would be swarming with passengers waiting to board and laborers waiting to unload cargo. It would also have far fewer security barriers and sniper nests.

A bullhorn-amplified voice announces: “Steepshore! End of the line. To most of our esteemed guests, we would like to extend our warmest greetings. To the scum in 67C: you are surrounded, outgunned, and outnumbered. Disembark now with any and all appendages in the air, and we might go easy on you. You have ten seconds before we open fire. Ten...”

Kevan gets ready to cast a spell on a weapon, sniper system or vehicle as the opportunity presents itself.

Sorry about the delay in answering and posting. @Kevan: per RAW, no, as the spell range is 40 ft and anyone not engaged is considered to be at 50 ft range. But there’s 3 of them and they’re dodging and weaving and ramming, so I’ll allow it given the way you phrased it. Go ahead and take your readied Junk Shard attack for Round 2 and your Round 3 action, also.

Kevan focuses on the debris in the area plus a few bits still falling off the smashed up tail fin. He blasts one of the cycles as it closes in.

Barat and Aramesh lay down covering fire, one on purpose, the other just winging it.

Contrary to the expectations of those two in the back seat, LNA not only doesn’t get them killed, he smoothly swings the Hallajin around a pillar, cuts straight across the Main Concourse, out the grand main entry doors and into the ticketing area. Here he finds that the security teams hadn’t quite gotten all the civilians out of the way. I mean, to be honest, they weren’t really expecting you to come roaring out in a high-end custom collector’s edition aero-cruiser, either.

The ticketing concourse is covered with kiosks and booths creating a maze while more crowds of panicking passengers and staff dash about trying to keep from being run over. Or shot, though they’re not in much danger of that, apparently. See the slide for details

The cycles try to keep up while avoiding your incoming fire. They tap checks to Evade and Progress, but that means they don’t do collision attacks this round.

=======================================

Each round, LNA performs a Pilot action, while everyone else uses standard actions to return fire at attacking security forces or otherwise assist in the escape.

Reminder: Everyone may post their actions. I’ll sort out the results into the normal Vehicle Chase phases.

ROUND 3
The Chase is On!
Everyone may act
Kevan may act twice

Your sweet sweet ride -5 of 80 hp

Kevan gathers bits and bobs of trash, broken toys, and smashed ticketing kiosks and flings them at the lead cyclist as he maneuvers.

Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

The rider is caught completely off guard and the flying debris smashes the front fork. The bike careens out of control, hits the departures sign, and explodes in a fireball!

At the same time, LNA puts the pedal to the silica-steel metal and jets away through the elegantly appointed Grand Vestibule of Steepshore Station. At the far end, multiple crowded escalators provide access to the ground level above where the freedom of Station Square beckons.

Barat and Aramesh watch the explosion as the two remaining police bikes try to navigate the booths and crowds in the ticketing concourse but are quickly lost in the chaos.

CHASE OVER!

LNA swings the no-longer-mint-condition 268 Redshift Hallajin in a wide drifting arc around the prominent statue in the center of Station Square. Onlookers ogle the car and the unusual occupants as he lines up on an empty straightaway, revs the engine, then peels out of sight.

A mile outside of town, Arda’s enercopter waits at the predetermined spot to pick up the crew. What happens next is up to them. Turning in the artifact to Aramesh’s buyer probably means more than enough money for each of them to retire to a quiet life of better decisions. Or has this success only whetted their appetites for even riskier and more lucrative capers? Only time will tell…..

Kevan waves a farewell to the other two bikers, giving a rumbling laugh. "Excellent driving, LNA! This bear hopes that the recon satellites have stayed hacked, though, or there will be more new friends on the way." When no further pursuit is forthcoming, though, he relaxes. "Good luck with your future endeavors, friends. This bear is glad to have had the opportunity to work with such a competent team." He stops, glancing at the spathinae and looking a little embarrassed. "Well, no one is good at everything."

Barat bobs a bit on his tentacles a bit, which looks almost like a nod back to Kevan. "Yeah, if I need some solid technological backup on another mission, I will keep your contact in my comm."

To LNA, he says, "Good driving, rust bucket. Might want to consider the racing circuit as a good use of your skillset."

To Aramesh he says, "You have my account info. If the credits don't show up as agreed, I will find you."

With that, he takes off across the terrain, a warrior who scuttles solo.

"Good driving. I knew you could do it chum." Aramesh said to LNA. This was a rough time but they did it. The crew did it and they got one over on Royse. Even part of the colony smiled with satisfaction in full consensus.

"Check your accounts in 24 hours chums. You won't be disappointed."
