Too small to be acknowledged, Maruta turns to inspect the "chunk" missing from the donkey.

Getting just close enough before he would have to otherwise navigate it's temperament, he spits onto the ground, displacing soil with the impact, where within seconds a saproling sprouts forth and rapidly grows in the pack animal's direction, tiny vines wrapping it's limbs with a climbing propagation, sprawling towards the wounded area like fast motion flora reaching for the sun, which, upon arriving, pierce the area and begin to glow with a primal energy, rapidly regenerating the "chunk" - flesh, bone, and sinew - into it's pre-damaged state, depositing the energy as the vines slowly wither away into ash, dispersed by a tiny gust of wind.

That done, our tiny sprite hero returns to the company of Rawiri's shared space.

Freeing the wagon from the muck is no easy task. The halfling brothers are just happy that someone is finally willing to help. "If you can help us get it unstuck, we can get the wagon down to a friends farm and make arrangements."

Rawiri digs out some of the muck as Nangu braces the side of the wagon. Between the pair they are able to get the wagon loosened up enough to reach a dry patch of land.

Nangu looks back as the tiny sprite tries to heal his meal back into the realm of the living. He sighs in relief as it is unsuccessful. Though the halfling brothers are a bit disturbed at Nangu calling dibs on their ride they seemingly have no further need for the dead weight.

"It is all yours," Miro states as he digs around in the back of teh wagon. "Wish there was more I can give you but this is full of spices so not much use to you." He holds out a small smokestick. "Thanks for helping us out."

Having gotten Nangu's attention by "messing" with his meal, the dhampir tries to shoo the flitting sprite away so that he can dine. He takes a deep bite into donkey flesh, only to suddenly spit it out.

"Blah! Ever since I was cursed with this accursed--well, curse--none of my favorite foods taste as good as I remember!" Nangu laments loudly. "Not donkey blood, horse blood, village--..."

The dhampir stops mid-rant, spotting a bit of crimson fluid on his blade. He sops up the fluid with his tongue. "Ack! Not at all as I remember!" he spits again, before muttering, "I ate much better back in Castle Kronquist. If only the undead there hadn't tried to eat me when last I tried to go back there."

"It was me--Nangu," the dhampir explains slowly, giving Squish a quizzical look as he wipes his blood covered face with a sleeve. "And I only took one bite. "You're welcome. Stay safe! Keep your bellies full!" Peri says once the halflings' wagon is on its wheels and out of the mud. He turns back to his companions and drops his jaw as he witnesses the exchange between Nangu and Squish.

He slowly closes his mouth and turns to someone else. "I can't even right now. So? Are we tracking down the beast that attacked them? Let's go hunting!"

Peri doesn't have much luck in finding any sort of tracks in the muck. Mik-mek on the other hand picks up a scent! The kobold finds large footprints in the area. He is able to follow the tracks for a few hundred yards, but soon it passes over enough rocks and tree branches that they soon disappear.

About a half an hour down the road from where the brothers got stuck the mud seems to get deeper and deeper. It squelches loudly with each and every footstep as Mik-Mek picks up the scent once more. Just then a strange occurrence happens as a bright light from within the woods begins to strobe on and off very slowly.

Maruta makes an attempt to communicate!

Leaning his neck back, exposing his throat, he tenses his little body, and a subtle wave of deep sound begins throbbing from his cloven feet, winding up through his legs and torso, up through his neck and throat, where, three faint visible auras begin to shine forth, the sound energy converting into light energy, which he leans back forward to expel from his mouth, producing three shimmering wispy lights - a sage green, a chestnut brown, an azure blue - which dance in circles around and forth.

He does his best to "send" some sort of salutation by altering the flickering, intensity, and position of his conjured lights!

The light scampers down a narrow path before going dark once more. Lured deeper into the woods the donkey-slayer reveals itself. This creature is a 4-foot tall frog-like humanoid with large, bulbous eyes that constantly emits bright yellow beams of light. Its skin is mottled yellow, growing darker across its back. Its feet are webbed as are its claws. The creature sniffs in the air as it's bulbous eyes lock onto Rawiri with hunger. It seems very attracted to the pack the dwarf carries.

While Mik-mek is so focused on the scent of the creature, Squish notices something odd against the terrain to the southeast. A very crude trapping as grass and sticks cover an area of extremely sticky mud. Can be overcome with a crafting or thievery check. It is marked on the map.

Taking to the air Maruta notices a stony crevasse in the wet earth to the southeast, hidden behind a large berry bush. This looks like some sort of crevice where the creature likely came from. Getting the creature close to the crevasse might encourage it to leave the surface for good.

Closing his eyes now overwhelmed with stimuli, Maruta stamps the ground with his tiny cloven feet three times with firm intention - almost as if knocking on a door - and beneath his hooves, an energy glows from beneath the soil, sprouting a trail of simple grass and flowers that draw forward southeasterly - a digging sound becomes audible on the opposite side of the bulbous-eyes web-clawed monster, and a giant insect crawls out of the ground!

Rawiri sees a blinding light, but fortunately, Squish has got the worst of it. The dwarf blinks a couple of times

"What on fire forges, is that!?" he takes out a dart and looks towards the foe. He whistles loudly to attract the enemy attention

"Hey, you frog face! Come here and dance with me." he fakes a step to the side followed by a turn and a quick step to the other side followed by an immediate move of the dwarf hand, and the darts fly towards the enemy

Squish Blinded rounds: 1d4 ⇒ 1

Just a little dazzled Rawiri begins to dance with the strange creature. Fascinating performance is a success. Rawiri throws it off a bit as he tosses a dart past a tree and into the frog-like creature's throat. It gurgles and panics as its bulbous eyes shine in fear.

Squish snorts and recoils as he is blinded. This causes a bit of a fervor to stir in Mik-Mek. Nangu draws his sword, quite angered at the thought of sunlight hitting his flesh.

A luminescent beetle crawls out of the nearby tree and snaps its mandibles onto the creature's arm. Completely blinded Peri tries to dive for the shadows, or at least what look like shadows to him. Though to those that can still see like Nangu, it appears as if the halfling dives right out into the open next to a bush.

The trees themselves would indeed be difficult terrain.

Nangu bursts through the forest to cut off the fleeing creature, his blade missing in the close quarters of the treeline. Maruto begins to point out the location of where he thinks it went. Unfortunately he is pointing in the complete wrong direction. The beetle flits up and over the trees, missing the pale frog-like creature.

Stabilize does not heal any damage, just removes the dying condition, no reason it shouldn't work on a dhampir.

Yup, Dhamphirs are extraordinary confusing in 2E. Here are a couple of videos I found helpful to understand them and what damages and heals them a bit better. Dhamphirs harmed by heal spell and How to heal a Dhamphir.

Squish stabilizes Nangu as Mik-mek chases after the little bugger. Maruta and the beetle soar through the trees, keeping up with the pale frog as Peri stumbles through the trees, his vision just beginning to come back to him.
