Welcome all. Now is the time we can do and discuss builds. At the moment, we have:
Human fighter (uses scythe)
Half-elf Wizard (I think evoker)
Human UnRogue (daggers, not sure if going knifemaster)
Human phytokineticist (wood)
Human Paladin (will go sorcerer/Dragon Disciple)
Lots of offensive potential, light on healing. Face and Knowledge skills will likely be well-covered.
However, none of that was considered when I chose. You five were picked either because you really leaned well into your role and the backwater setting, or you hit on something in your backstory that nicely parallels one of the embryonic story ideas I had (or inspired other story ideas).
As you build characters, please keep your backstory in your profiles spoilered and try really hard not to read other folks’ backstories. I’d say don’t include them at all but it will be convenient for me to have them there.

So Robert, Maria, and Fezzen are our three locals (though only Robert was born there).
Your three bios, at least from the points you arrived in town, don’t need to be as secret, though our Ward and Stranger would do well not to be familiar with them. However, doing everything by PM and spoilers is a pain.
Maria is our Black Sheep, due in no small part to a burned down barn that everybody “knows” she did, but can’t prove (since town hero Elrithrathiel took the blame for it). Perhaps there’s a connection there with our farmer’s son Robert, the Pride of Lyon’s Brook.

Greetings all, and thanks for the pick!
This doesn't really help in the short term but I can actually learn to heal fairly effectively down the road (like 7th or 8th level, I think) if we still need it.

Robert Macintyre |

Thank you for the invitation. I look forward to playing Robert.
Robert would have certainly tried to put out the fire if he knew of it, especially if it was his barn. He would be likely to believe Elrithrathiel when she takes the blame but still harbor doubts if it was his barn.
I tried dotting and deleting in gameplay but it is currently difficult.

Fezzan Valdemar |

Thanks for the invite!
Hi Everyone!
Fezzan should be familiar to anyone who's been to the Public house, where he works busing tables, cleaning messes, etc.
As for the exact build, probably not knifemaster, doesn't look like we need the extra damage and giving up the ability to disable magical traps probably isn't worth it.

Maria Kerrelian |

Sounds like we will be trying to mitigate and prevent damage game wise, and we will have good tracking and good knowledge checks for any outdoor period.
I am also open to changing things up if need be to accommodate the group.
Jervis, my cute little bat familiar gives us an excellent perception to boot.

Cows?
Robert, obviously you need to rework yourself back to first level. No rush though. Also, I added entries to the gazetteer for your family and for the Parforys. Anybody with the link above should be able to edit that document (the section "Stuff We've Learned" on each entry is for your folks to take any notes you like), so if there's something you don't like or had a different direction in mind, feel free to change any of it.
I don't think I have any other entries to add. Maria has been living in Lyon's Brook for awhile, but she has no family in town. Same for Fezzen, and Eudonia Eumonia Eudamia bah, I'll get the spelling of your character's name right eventually, I mean it's not like it's a hard name like Jaymin or something.
If there are any locals from your backstories that I missed, however, let me know and I'll make some entries.

Nazard |

I guess the only thing would be to incorporate me being an apprentice to the local wizard if not already.
I meant to do that, but I didn't want to do it before I announced the party. Fixed.

Maria Kerrelian |

I'll also add that possibly Maria is has no knowledgable of her masters trips for that long three month period. She just keeps house while she is away. Up to you.
Right now at lunch at work.

Ha! Ninja'd. See above. She knows what her mistress is up to. It's a secret to the townspeople, but she'd have no reason to hide it from her apprentice. She does leave Maria at home alone to tend the tower and her studies, however. I would say, hence the barn incident, but if she managed to take the blame for that, she'd have to at least be there. The locals aren't wise in the ways of magic, but they aren't idiots (mostly).

Eudamonia Solanis |

Lol, my name is a little bit of a mouthful, yes. In discussion (and in gameplay once people get to know her) you can call her Euda (pronounced YOU-duh).

Eudamonia Solanis |

GM- how much information would you like in our banners, and how much can/should we talk about specifics in discussion? I know those of us who are outsiders don’t know the other people’s backgrounds at all (and they don’t know ours), but can we talk freely about our classes and where we might be headed with them in this thread?

Nazard |

Absolutely, please discuss builds no problem. The fates have aligned to bring five people with compatible skills together, so meta discussion are all fine.
In the banners, I would like AC, CMD, saves, and a running hit point total. I will be compiling group dice rolls such as Initiative, Perception, and Sense Motive as I tend to roll those myself. Nothing is a sure-fire giveaway that there's something to see as asking for Perception checks. At the table, I don't mind asking for them randomly when not needed, but in PBP it takes a whole day for nothing, so I will roll them when needed and a few times when not needed, just to keep you guessing.
At the moment, I'm putting together the opening gameplay post. It's okay if you haven't finished building, since the first big chunk will be RP. It's going to take a little bit of railroading just to get your first steps onto the path, and then I'm taking the hands off, and you either successfully complete the adventure or you don't.

Ok I am going strength build and trying to grab a reach weapon and some spears to toss. Looking over my archtype I might actually go paladin for a third level to grab locate object based off of lay on hands and give you all something to wear that I can find if we get separated. I have perception, appraise, diplomacy, and use magic device as well as I can detect magic based off my charisma instead of detect evil. My fourth skill is required knowledge arcana. Background skills are driver profession and handle Animal. I have a feat and a couple of traits to spend and am open to ideas.

Eudamonia Solanis |

I'm a phytokineticist, built as a blaster/ranged damage dealer, and I was thinking I would probably pick up a little control as we go (with some entangling and maybe limited wall-like effects). I'm not great at it, but I do have UMD and can try to help with wands and low level scrolls as needed.
At 7th level I can pick up healing ability, or a second element. I plan to let in-game events dictate that decision, but even if I pick up a second element I might still be able to gain healing ability at 8th (depending on the element).
Gunnar- if you're looking to go with a reach weapon, I've had a lot of success with combat reflexes. Also, there's a religion trait for Abadar (eyes and ears of the city) that makes perception a class skill, if you haven't already gotten that from your archetype or something.

Nazard |

Oh, I missed that you have Gunnar taking a stagecoach to Lyon’s Brook rather than walking. Ignore the part about camping so close, I guess the stagecoach has camping spots designed to have them arrive first thing in the morning.
And I see he’s ridden in with his actual father. That explains the second part

Fezzan Valdemar |

K. I'm going twf with feinting. Dex build with int as the secondary, so I've got a ton of skills. As much as I am tempted by some heirloom weapon / kukri shenanigans, I'm leaning towards just good old fashioned daggers. Don't expect any dips, just good old fashioned roguey goodness.

Nazard |

When two or more are trying the same skill check where there’s only 1 success needed, like the Perception and tracking checks in the game thread, everybody can try the check, I’ll take the best result, and add 2 for each other person who got at least 10. I personally hate declaring one PC to make the primary check, who ends up rolling a 2, while the half-blind wizard rolls the natural 20 but was only on “aid another” duty. Anyone who’s ever helped someone look for a lost golf ball know how aiding a Perception check really works.
I also allow aid anothers on Knowledge checks if you’re free to communicate with each other.

Nazard |

When we do get to a combat situation, which we are always off unless somebody decides to go Kung-fu on the gardener, I use maps for any encounters with a remotely interesting terrain or tactics (and in a homebrew like this, other than a few random encounters in the first few levels), there won’t be combat unless it’s important to the story (I can’t stand dungeons where monsters each sit in their own little rooms, never wonder at the sound of mayhem next door, and are just there to farm xp and treasure).
I’ll roll initiative for everybody, and usually the enemies just get one initiative roll unless there’s an extra special baddie who gets their own. Actions are resolved in either post order or rolled initiative order, whichever is more beneficial to PCs, and if you’re taking out mooks, I will auto-switch your targets for you so you aren’t hacking up corpses. I tend to give folks a day to post in combat before being botted, though occasionally I may bot you sooner if I think we can end a minor encounter with one last hit.
TL;DR it’s all about rhythm and flow in PBP, and I try to keep both moving at a good clip when possible (and I’m not in the middle of the woods with a dead cell phone like last night).

Fezzan Valdemar |

Just so I'm clear on the current situation, the dog's trails leads to an area in the hedge where it looks like a person was laying and there is no trail for either dog or person leaving that point? As if they both disappeared into thin air?

Maria Kerrelian |

Maria would search for roughly an hour or two around the property's outskirts and a little into the woods. She wouldn't however go alone unless she is assisted by the rest of the group.

Eudamonia Solanis |

Of course, the old cart path behind the garden led in the opposite direction…if the dognapper used it at all.
Was that not something we came across in our search, or did I just somehow miss the post that was in? Because that seems like something we probably should/would have explored during our hour of searching past the hedges?

Robert Macintyre |

Fo I hear this conversation or are you talking aside with Robert, Gunnar?
I believe Gunnar waited for Fideria to leave, I don't know that he pulled me away from the rest of the group.
