Jayma takes the necklace from Arlo and flashes him a smile. "Why, thank you dear Arlo. Now let's see if this is more than the pretty necklace it appears to be." She then tries to determine if the necklace has any sort of magical aura and if so, what it might be.

Hadn't noticed until now, but Identify Magic has the Secret trait.

Activity: Identify Magic (Arcana, Occultism +9) - SECRET

I'm assuming that like the other gifts, this is merely a treasure bundle and not magical...

"Seems it's exactly what it appears to be; a pretty necklace." Expectantly, Twyl reaches out for it. "Hmmm. No, Twyl. This is too nice to hide away. I think it'll look better on me." She then lets her familiar clasp the necklace around her neck and looking down at it says, "Yes, I was right. Much better where everyone can see it." Turning to Arlo, she adds, "What do you think dear Arlo? Does it look good on me?"

Jayma is pleased to be wearing beautiful jewelry again. She'd left all of hers behind when she'd fled Cheliax and her circumstances since had not lent themselves to the purchase of such expensive baubles. What little money came her way was almost always better spent on improved equipment to maximize her chances of surviving future Society missions.

Dusk is beginning to fall on Kayajima, lighting the clearing in a sunset glow. The spires and walls of Kayajima Fortress cast long shadows across the expanse by the time you return. "Thank you, Pathfinders! The ley lines are repaired and my preparations are complete. It is time for me to begin the ritual. Stand by and watch."

Kukuha dons a ceremonial cap and sash and stands at the center of a clearing, eyes closed. She performs a brief series of gestures with a feather fan before sinking to her knees and thrusting her talons into the earth.

A low rumble sounds, and the earth shakes. From the northeast, tendrils of golden energy ripple through the air like gusts of wind. From the southeast, waves of azure light flow across the ground, like the ocean crashing against the shore. And from the northwest, lines of verdant energy snake like roots through the earth. The energy trails dance toward Kukuha, gathering in larger and more vibrant swaths and forming a dome around her.

Suddenly, a loud droning hum emits from the statue at the wall. The etchings in the statue glow as it begins to rise with the sound of grinding stone. A massive construct stands fully upright, bathing the clearing in cobalt light as energy flows through the etchings covering its body. Its glowing eyes, crackling with power, fix on Kukuha.

With a cry of exertion, Kukuha redirects rays of energy from the dome into each of you. You all briefly glow with golden light and translucent sigils appear upon your brows for a moment before fading away.

Jayma beams an even bigger smile back at Arlo. "How very kind of you Arlo dear. I agree completely. Hard as it is to improve on perfection, I think the necklace manages it quite well." When she was still walking the halls of the royal castle in Brastlewark, wearing jewelry like this was like wearing armor. It showed the royal retinue that she was a princess of the court and not to be trifled with. That feeling of power over others' lives was one of the few things she missed from her days at court.

Fast-forward...

The sorcerer was enraptured by Kukuha's ritual. The waves of different colored lights washing in from all directions and forming a vibrant dome around the tengu was awe inspiring. For a moment, Jayma thinks that the animation of the statue is part of the ritual, but it is clear from Kukuha's reaction that it is not. This construct wished them no good. As she prepares to defend Kukuha from the creature, she is bathed in golden light and feels stronger for it; she felt as if there was nothing that could stand in her way. "We must defend Kukuha. She must be allowed to finish the ritual. That creature must be stopped."

Jayma quickly steps to where Hobbs was standing so she can see exactly where the construct is. When it comes into sight, she starts making arcane motions with her arms. As before, water gurgles out of the ground and forms a ball floating in the air before her. With a final whipping motion of her hands and a "soggy sphere soaks statue," the ball of water accelerates towards the creature and smashes against it.

As the energy starts flowing through the air, Arlo closes his eyes and breathes in deeply. "Can you feel that? It's nature responding to our call. Oh, how I wish I could hold the power of the earth and air in my hands, directing it to my desires. I am deeply jealous of you, Kukuha."

Any indication of why that big honking statue suddenly appeared? It rose up and walks in our direction, but why? Did we do something wrong?

Jayma didn't have LOS to the statue where she was, so I moved her to Maximilian's conveniently emptied square. He'll probably cross post with me.

Hobbs splatters the towering statue with acid.

Jayma moves forward and unleashes the power of a raging river into the giant battle engine. If you could see that well, you could see fine fissures spreading across its surface as the impact drives it back. The ground furrows in the wake of its feet.

Maximilian's arrow lands right in the center of the statue's chest, but the bow fails to penetrate its durable construction.

The glowing blue sigils on the statue flare as the statue suddenly moves with incredible speed. Jets of blue flame propel it faster as it runs into the archway and brings its arm upward. The blue sigils on its arm strobe just before it slams its fist down at Zelphari. However, inches above his head, the arm appears to catch on a birds nest in the joint (Natural 1). The statue wobbles its arm twice before giving up and turning its eyes towards Hobbs.

Twin blue rays of energy erupt from the battle engine's eyes and streak toward the goblin. Golden sigils flare in front of his eyes, holding back the powerful blast for a moment before they evaporate, leaving Hobbs to take the rest of the energy full in his face (Hobbs resists 2 of the Natural 20).

The acid dribbles down the statue at a snail's pace, but it does not seem to react very strongly with the statue's material.

Twyl was deep down in his mistress's backpack nestled within her spare set of fine clothing and anxiously listening to the sounds of battle outside. As usual, he was terribly worried about what might happen to her. He didn't know what he would do or even what would happen to him if she were to die. She was his whole life; he felt their psychic connection as a true lifeline; without it, what? He shuddered at the thought.

He tried to calm himself. She'd been in battles like this before and come out unscathed every time... well, almost every time. There wasn't anything to worry about really. This would all be over in a little while and things would get back to normal again.

Aaaand... that's when he felt the sharp jolt of her thought through their empathic connection. "Danger. Hide. Pain coming." It was the first time she'd ever warned him like that. He instinctively rolled himself into a tight ball to weather whatever was coming their way.

The blow against the backpack was harder than anything he'd felt before. He was tossed around inside her backpack like a rag doll and several of the harder objects bounced off him causing injuries. "<squeeeeeeal!>"

First time poor old Twyl has ever taken damage... 7 hp in this case.

Arlo rushes over to Hobbs and rapidly applies bandages to the goblin. Zelphari empowers his strike, but even though his glaive strikes, the ancient enchantments prove too strong.

There is a raptor's scream from above and shadows pass through the setting sun's light a moment before a flurry of white and black wings and fur swoops into the statue's face and flies away. A moment after this, a second assault against the statue's face follows. The two griffons adult griffons you met on the mountaintop wing away from the courtyard and back toward the mountains, screeching what you might gather to be encouragement. The statue's blue eyes flicker erratically for a few moments.

Hobbs conjures a ball of flame. It may not have been as dramatic as he desired, but it proves effective. Unable to escape the explosion within the passageway, the battle engine takes the brunt of the heat. There is a loud CRACK! and the thin cracks left by the many blasts of water spread wider and then large portions of the outer shell begins to fall off in chunks, leaving softer clay exposed.

The acid from Hobbs' earlier arrow, still persisting, runs down the glossy outer coat and into these exposed areas in time.

Maximilian manages to aim directly for one of the sturdiest remaining portions of the statue's outer shell, and his arrow shatters again. Jayma takes a more direct approach to destruction and applies force directly through magic. Several more chunks of statue crumble to the ground.

The statue steps forward. The blue light of its eyes flicker as it fires an erratic ray towards Jayma. The beams strike the ground next to Jayma, creates an explosion of dirt, and leaves a wide crater. The statue then slams its fist into Zelphari. The invisible shield of force momentarily appears as a cloudy disc before it shatters. The golden glyphs manifest again and scatter beneath the force, and the force lands powerfully against the sorcerer.

Kukuha gets to her feet, casually dusting the dirt from her robes. “It is done. Now that the island’s ley lines have been restored, Kayajima’s magic will protect this site for years to come. I do believe the Society will find this location most appropriate for a new lodge. I’ll send word to Fola Barun to inform her of the outcome.
