So who needs To Battle! this turn?
I think Hotcha needs to haul ass out of there. Maybe a 1-action To Battle! on Yog'Moi to let him stride to Hotcha? Or a 2-action on Esh to let him get back to the fight after drinking a potion or something?
What's everyone planning on doing?
Hotcha Twinkletoes
Hotcha will not run!
She will heal 80 hp and stay on yellow.
Hotcha Twinkletoes
Hotcha ends her turn with 125 HP and is near Yog’Moi and Yellow. I can self heal another 40, but chose step so Orange must move to hit me. Yellow has taken 132 damage now.
I half want to energize my wings, but really want to get Yellow out of the fight.
Hotcha Twinkletoes
@Wu Xin,
If you to-battle me to move, does it take you only one action (instead of two)? I plan to flank and one-inch punch.
So up to you, but if you want to get a hit AND boost Hotcha’s attack, using to-battle to move me gives me a harder one-inch punch!
_____
EDIT - posted because lunch break is lonely.
Damage in spoiler for with/without a to-battle move. Also noted damage for with/without crit, since I either crit vs. flank AC or juuuuuust missed it.
Hotcha Twinkletoes
Maybe at 4:00 we move on the blue path. If that ends up being faster than red, we can always try the stone shop. But that can wait until morning.
I think getting to base by midnight is important.
Hotcha Twinkletoes
Ha! A lot has happened since 7:00. I guess Hotcha gleans no new info from that roll. Will catch up and edit… maybe check to see if a hatchling wandered off (or predator/scavenger if the egg was eaten)?
Hotcha Twinkletoes
@Xin,
I just posted in Discord, but to keep you in the loop:
The mysterious egg… do we search this area more, or move on?
My thought is the egg is either obscuring something (magically detectable?) or it’s a memorable piece of a bigger puzzle—like other colossal objects strewn about.
In other words, I’m intrigued and have wild guesses, but am up for whatever the party wants to do.
Hotcha Twinkletoes
Will try to post in-game before work. But if I don’t, my thoughts:
• Boots: Yog’Moi can feel free to upgrade to greater. Else, Hotcha will gladly wear them and possibly sell them for over 1000g each.
• Village: There may no be feathers at stake, but our lives. But I get the feeling we’d free boggards from being bullied. I’m all for sticking our noses in their beeswax!

I have some meta-knowledge of what that might be, but because I suspect Xin doesn't, I'll just leave it at "big damn egg."

Yup. We think alike.
Hotcha Twinkletoes
@Xin,
We’re surprised, so we only get two actions this round!
Wu Xin
Say what? PF2e doesn't have surprise rounds! ...that I know of.
Was this a scenario-specific thing?
Hotcha Twinkletoes
@Xin, I need a move to land a flurry.

DIVISION OF SPOILS
Man, that bird was loaded!
balisse feather
(Consumable, 400 gp)
dispelling silver
(Consumable, 2400 gp)
elemental gem
(Consumable, 200 gp)
eye of apprehension
(Consumable, 400 gp)
wand of crackling lightning (6th level)
(4500 gp)
greater flaming rune
(6500 gp)
greater ring of cold resistance
(975 gp)
Yog'Moi, is lightning bolt on your list? If not, we should sell the wand.
Flaming Rune goes to Hotcha.
I'm thinking we give the Dispelling Silver and the Greater Ring of Cold Resistance to Esh, then sell the rest. What do you think?
_____________________________________________________________________
Hotcha Twinkletoes
That works for me, @Xin.
You can add the 500g Flaming Rune to the party loot, either for someone to claim, or to sell and split the gold. I just bought that, but I won’t need to spend another 6000 to upgrade it!
Hotcha Twinkletoes
For future reference, Hotcha can stride 40ft, in case you ever want to get a hit in and also flank.
That said, your plan worked beautifully. With the flank, your attack crits (as did one of mine)!

1 person marked this as a favorite.
I'll be attending GenCon Online for the next four days, so please don't expect much of me.
Hotcha Twinkletoes
Given that Hotcha needs to meditate (booze bath!) to refocus, she will be a listener in the strategy talk.
It might make more sense anyway, the way her chaotic (CG) mind works. She is highly intelligent (18) and charismatic (18 - 20@Lv.20)… but not wise (10). I see her as being less of a planner, more spontaneously brilliant.
See the theme, by the way?
• INT = brilliant (light)
• WIS = cool (ice)
• CHA = hot (fire)
Sort of intentional. I always like to have one bad mind skill, so when I make a major bonehead move, I have an excuse. “Uhhh, my character’s a fool (or idiot, if low INT). Yeah, that isn’t me being a lame player. I’m just so awesomely in-character, I’m RP’ing lameness awesomely!
“Vigorous nod, yep.”
Wu Xin
I don't actually have a problem with what happened. That's life.
I'm just role-playing Xin as obsessed with victory. He views this competition as his third and last chance in life. He knows he's obsessed and when he's having a good day, he can moderate it and act reasonably. But getting blasted into the dirt has scared the crap out of him and he's compensating by trying to plan out each victory in advance.

Keen! I like the thought and effort that's gone into that!

The hardest part of role-playing is conveying a character's inner life, but play-by-post is great for that.
Hotcha Twinkletoes
Thanks!
I rarely play high-WIS. One example though is Kid Artemis.
She is a naiad zen archer, and the sole survivor of Niobe’s children who were slain by Apollo and Artemis.
INT 16 (brilliant like moonlight)
WIS 14 (cool like water)
CHA 12 (fire like embers, a subdued but ever-burning hate for the twin gods)
She’s actually my planescape alt to other characters who are also Nintendo rip-offs: Lunk & Savi.

This plus a relevant potion might be handy. Other than that, the best I can think of is a Rune of Greater Resilience for a +2 bonus to saving throws.
Hotcha Twinkletoes
Master Strikes & Invisible Trickster!
How much money do we have each? Don’t forget my flaming rune sells for 250. (Split that too.)
Hotcha Twinkletoes
I think hellfire 3000 + swap stone 300 + Hotcha’s day-old rune 500 = 3800
And did the enforcers pay us 1500?
850 per PC if so. If not, I’ll make the correction.
Hotcha Twinkletoes
I’m thinking Frost is the way to go. I like the crit effect, though it won’t be much of a help until I upgrade to greater frost.
I contemplated Impactful, but I won’t opt for the crit effect (knock-back) mid-combo whereas Slow benefits me anytime I land a crit. (I realize Slow and Stun don’t stack.)
• Lv+13 Unarmed Attack M = 6 +5 +Lv +2 item
>> ▶️ Flurry of Blows
>> Weapon Specialization: +3 mystic/metal
>> 3d4+3+2d6 Cold, Fire; -5/-10 MAP
>> 3d8+2+/d6 S., Cold, Fire; -4/-8 MAP
My attack is up by 3 this level, and damage is up by 1 + d6/cold.
Hotcha Twinkletoes
I drew on the map. Not sure if the hours work out, but D2 to D1 would be a teleport-home path. (Assuming D = teleport.)
Hotcha Twinkletoes
@Xin,
If you really WANT to accept the challenge, Hotcha can turn invisible, fly, and for three rounds she can blast a group with wronged monk’s wrath.
Wu Xin
My character-mind is warring with my gamer mind. In character, Xin knows that this isn't the tournament yet and that the only goal is to survive with 10 feathers until the tournament begins. He'd likely turn down the contest believing that so many warriors is so many more chances for a lucky hit that seriously injures one of his own.
As a gamer, I want to hold onto that Phoenix so we can use it when we're hurting and need a break.
Also as a gamer, I doubt that the designers would saddle the GM with 40 characters to roll for every turn, so it's likely that some or all of these opponents are a troop mechanic, meaning we might have a shot if we spread out. Frankly, I think Xin could just fly, dive in, attack and fly out, being targeted only by missile fire.
Character mind says no. Gamer mind says hell yeah!
So... I vote no.
Yog'Moi
-Divine Defense: expert in unarmored defense
-Master MEDICINE
-Weapon Spec: +2 damage with weapons you are an expert in
-Two level 7 spells (and Font is now heightened to level 7)
Wu Xin
The runes were a +2 potency rune and a greater striking rune. Xin needed only the greater striking rune, so we can sell that +2 potency rune (935 gp) or if Yog'Moi needs it, we can affix it to one of his weapons.
Hotcha Twinkletoes
Also, I’m up for whatever number of feathers you guys want.
Wu Xin
Yeah, I agree. Let's put this thing to bed and then we can just explore. Of course, people will come looking for us, too.
I'm thinking two archers and two swordsmen means we're going to be taking some hits no matter what. I suggest we simply focus fire on one after the other. Yog, if you have any crowd control spells, this would be a great time for them.
I know it's not 2e, but I've been playing a lot of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous on computer. Nearly all the fights are over as soon as my sorcerer character drops a heightened crowd control spell on the enemy. It used to be grease, and the rest of the party would plunk away with bows. Now it's hungry pit and we just stand back for 1 minute while the pit eats our enemies.
Hotcha Twinkletoes
Hungry Pit, huh? I have a magical child vigilante who is Milani themed, so I was thinking a spiked pit and hungry pit would represent thorns nicely.
She is next on my list of characters I want to draw.
Wu Xin
The visuals for Hungry Pit in that game are...unsettling.
But the Pit spells are just nasty in 1e because almost nothing had the Climb skill. The players in my Iron Gods game used those spells with such frequency I just started houseruling that all humanoids had at least a basic climb skill.
It's less of an issue in 2e, I imagine.
But for example, in WotR, my 10th level party went up against a 20th level undead barbarian without any buffs. It was a TPK because I didn't use any crowd control spells. I reloaded, buffed my team, then used "hungry pit". The barbarian fell in and got eaten for 10 rounds. When the spell ended it took 1 round of missile fire to finish him off.
Hotcha Twinkletoes
I wonder if anyone got the “ARROW’d!!” reference.
Hotcha Twinkletoes
Yup… good old Strong Bad emails! H*R was my connection to western culture in the years I lived in Hong Kong!
Hotcha Twinkletoes
@Xin, I think next round, if both archers step out of my reach, I’ll see what you do first.
The to-battles are working nicely. However, if the archers move and you still want to to-battle me, you could save yourself an action by getting Hotcha to move. (I anticipate they will move unless something stops them.)
If I’m within 50 feet, I could then opt for invisibility + flurry, or a three-action one-inch punch instead of two.
Hotcha Twinkletoes
Of course, with Yog in flank position, maybe yellow has no good place to run. We shall see!
Hotcha Twinkletoes
Never mind, Xin. I was going to wait for your post, but my phone is so dead (didn’t fully charge last night) I might not even have the ability to post from work. I couldn’t help but make a one-inch-punch joke, and it paid off, so no regrets!
