Note 1: In Tien culture, the family name is placed first, and the personal name second. Lai is her family name and Tsuan is her personal name - please address her as Tsuan.
Note 2: Tsuan has two nonstandard ACs listed - OD refers to her AC with Offensive Defense, which she gets when she hits a creature with sneak attack (it's +4 dodge bonus, which doesn't stack with a +1 dodge bonus she gets from Dodge, so 3 above her usual AC); and DP refers to her AC with Dodging Panache, which may use on occasion (it's a +3 dodge bonus which doesn't stack).

My apologies all. I realize now that I did not give enough information as to the mechanics of this travel-tracking section.
"Each check they fail costs them time, using up one extra day’s worth of rations. "
I also forgot to mention...
"The Master of Blades outfits each PC with food and water rations for a 6-day journey. The army’s supplies aren’t endless, especially out here in the Worldwound, but he doesn’t want them foraging if they don’t have to. Farabellus also gives one PC a rough map of the Frostmire."
The map given will not have any mechanical effect that is relevant to you as players.
That all said. I will allow you all to use different tactics with new rolls should you desire. My apologies again for the miscommunication.
Noke Tiiz |
So we should then all aid the main person for each day?
Is Noke with kn geography also a viable option?
GM Sasha |
Yes. Though, for those skills that makes sense to use but are not Survival, I will raise the DC. Based on what I have seen of most of your Survival bonuses however, it might still be in your best interests to use Geography or Perception.
All of that said, succeeding at everything does not always make for the most interesting stories.
Pai Shecks |
Sorry if I'm slow to post for the rest of this week. There's a lot of good RL stuff going on through Saturday, and it'll keep me pretty busy. Feel free to bot Pai as necessary.
Wiem Weems Finyik |
So which is it. Simple checks or Survival checks?
:O
GM Sasha |
I will not be able to give the info on the knowledge check until I get home from work in about 5 hours. I would encourage posting actions anyway as it could move us forward. Worst case scenario, you retcon your actions.
Another option that is effective is if/then posts. You post actions with stipulations so that you cover most bases for the sake of moving the game forward.
Lai Tsuan |
We may need additional prompts if there's some kind of lead we're supposed to find. Should we roll Perception checks?
I'd love to discover more of the backstory, but am unsure how to do it within the constraints of character.
GM Sasha |
Firstly, I don't think it is specifically intend for the characters (or maybe even players) to learn what happened. So, to alleviate concerns, I can confidently say that your characters know everything they are supposed to at this point.
Secondly, to me, we have hit at least a mechanical character limitation to y'all knowing more of the backstory. Though I think we have also hit a conceptual one as well. As for the mechanical, there is a prestige class called the sleepless detective. I believe that it is important not to step on toes in terms of mechanics. As for concept, I have not seen any sort of inkling that any of your characters are geared or intended for the purpose of piecing together past occurances. This is not intended as a negative analysis. Merely that I, as the story facilitator, try to tell the story through the lenses of your characters. This is how I GM. I base my understanding of your characters by how they are played, their rp. In my view, character are not and will never be 'superman'. So, they are not something until it is stated or at least hinted that they are.
Lastly, a character's lack of knowledge/information is just as important to the story.
All of that said, the possible rp I see lies in fun guessing what happened. This is not a command or anything, more of a possible rp prompt.
Pai Shecks |
Yup! That's when Tsuan and Pai met.
Wiem Weems Finyik |
Negative
Noke Tiiz |
No
Pai Shecks |
Pai takes 3 negative levels
Well, that escalated quickly. Is this sort of thing common at these higher levels?
To verify, since you didn't say 3 temporary negative levels, that means it's 3 permanent negative levels, correct?
So, in reading the rules about negative levels, it looks like Pai keeps all her class's abilities that came online during the last three levels. Is that right?
Pai has a boon which could restore one of her levels, but only if one of the level 9 characters in the party do it for her. Narratively, this is plausible, as it involves using an item, which Pai can hand off to someone. Would that be allowed?
GM Sasha |
It comes from the 4th level spell Enervation, so yes they are temporary. I'd say that negative levels is uncommon, but definitely not rare.
Also, for that boon to achieve the option for 9+, the owner of the boon must be 9+. Another character cannot use your boon sadly. Now, if they had the boon, they could use it. But do note that restoration does have a 3 round casting time.
Lai Tsuan |
Just to be clear, are we picking a side here? Helping the humans? Any chance one of the humans is a disguised BBE and we should let them do a little damage to one another before intervening?
Pai Shecks |
Pai wouldn't even think of that. She'll assume to just kill the demons and then stop to talk and find out who's who and all that. (Too much trauma and bad memories from her last mission, which required a murder hobo mentality.)

Well, at least I won't have to spend Prestige Points to fix 3 negative levels after this game. Thanks for the info.

And Pai, possibly +1 from Haste on that attack (and her AC/saves)
I didn't see anyone cast Haste on me. Not that I'd say no, but where do you see it?
Wembly Templeton |
Actually the range of center of haste was not the issue, so much as the spread of all the party members...
"one creature/level, no two of which can be more than 30 ft. apart"
But it is likely moot, as the invisibility would have precluded targeting anyone Wembly could not see. :)
Lai Tsuan |
I'll be on vacation next week, starting this Saturday. I'll have Internet access, but it's likely to be slow. I should be able to keep up with the text portions of the game, but I may have to ask people to move me on Google Slides. In case I can't keep up, here are botting instructions:
Botting instructions:
In combat, Tsuan relies heavily on sneak attack. Her preferred attack would be melee, and she will pair up with anyone who can offer a flank. She gets an AC bump from Offensive Defense whenever she hits with sneak damage. If flanking isn't possible, she has several uses of vanish that she can use to get one single flat-footed attack, but it's a very expensive way to deal damage. A consumable she intends to use this adventure is a wand of greater invisibility - with 2 charges. She wants to save one for Tancred if at all possible, because that guy is a huge chode. If she needs to go ranged, she has several shuriken - but getting the sneak damage is a problem. Her damage without sneak is basically pointless, I think Pai and Floria have seen her struggle when she can't get sneak.
If she has a flank, she'll have Offensive Defense, plus parry and riposte. If she doesn't, she won't riposte, and use Defensive Panache.
Out of combat, Tsuan will happily Aid where she can. I think Noke has a better Dip/Bluff but Tsuan has a better Intimidation. She'll have some unpleasant things to say to both Tancred and Thurl, should they interact. (Tsuan has played 5-09)
Wembly Templeton |
Wembly would have CdG on the demon but even large whiskers damage appears to be greatly reduced.
Lai Tsuan |
Tsuan has cold irom and silver daggers.
Wembly Templeton |
Apologies all. I took a little extra time this weekend to rest and feel much more refreshed.
Good deal!
Noke Tiiz |
Please don’t worry about timing. Real life always first!!!
Pai Shecks |
I'm all for being refreshed. :)
Floria Avernathus |
Floria does have a scroll of restoration (the kind with 100GP material component) that could help Pai, but she'd have a hard time casting it with UMD, she'd need to roll a natural 19 to impersonate having a 14 wisdom directly after succeeding on the check to have it on her spell list I think.
Can anyone cast it easier?
Lai Tsuan |
Tsuan has a +14 UMD modifier, but I think that's only 1 better.
Wiem Weems Finyik |
Restoration's on neither of my lists, & UMD only +4.
Pai Shecks |
No point in wasting good resources. Pai has lots of Prestige Points saved up, so I can get her back to normal at the end of the scenario. Thanks for offering, though!
