"Always happy to help out my favorite cookie-carrying friend," Gareleth says, responding to Tuck's request for him to check for traps.

Yuzu mumbles to herself as she flexes her paws in her boots.
"Bereft of dirt beneath their roots,
Two blades of grass
Adrift upon the sea."
She shifts her weight back and forth and plays with words some more.
"Sand in my armor
Knowledge beyond my learning
Blade and arm grow tense."

Ah friend Yuzu, your words speak for my heart as well. I am not a learned elf, and more a man of action than a scholar, but our sword arms are still needed to help uncover these secrets. Andrelis smiles at his Kitsune friend, knowing well how she feels. We’ve been many places friend, but i feel like between this, and our last assignment in Cheliax are the most dangerous we’ve faced yet.

Yuzu offers a smile that's just visible at the corners of her mask.
In a voice low enough that only Andrelis can hear, she whispers, "One never knows what to expect on these missions. One day, we are carving pumpkins and exchanging tokens with leshies; another, we are exploring the specific conspiracies of ancient Jitskan-Osirian relations."
"It is good to let others shine without me. A poet's duty is, foremost, to observe."

"Don't complain about the calm Yuzu my foxy lass. I prefer it to when things get hectic."
Tuck produces some snacks for Yuzu and Andrelis with a relaxed smile.
"Of course you two know I've never been one for blades even when things get hot"
The others are also offered snacks, this time they are honey oat cakes, mildly spiced jerky, and dates, with elderflower cordial to wash it down and sooth dry throats.
At Kaseem 's reaction to the story Tuck smiles again, pleased to bring joy.
"I'll have to see if I can remember more tales of Ancient Osirion for the boat trip home."
Kaseem ibn al Majid
|
"Ah many thanks good Tuck! This food is delicious!"
Gareleth Jarvinx

As the snacks come out, Gareleth looks very enthused and approaches and the smile drops as he says. "Oh. No cookies," and as if uncertain what else to do, reaches out for some jerky.
Manik "Tuck" O'Leary

"I couldn't bear to offer cookies that aren't fresh and this heat is just to hard on them. Try a honeyed oat cake, I think I've got some with raisins in them too if that takes your fancy."
Gareleth Jarvinx
|
Gareleth looks uncertainly at the offered honey cakes, but goes ahead and takes one, tries a bite, and says, "Hey! these are really...not cookies. They're okay, though, but really not cookies."
He then notices Yuzu out of the corner of his eye and remembers her teaching hallin something about showing gratitude and says, "But it's kind of you to offer them and I appreciate them and they're nice. And so are you. Nice, that is," and smiles confidently feeling like he totally nailed that social interaction.

Love the roleplay! Sorry for the delay!
Tuck produces some oat cakes, dates, and jerky for the group. They are tasty and hit the spot! The monk takes one look at the lattice and easily dismantles it.
Moving into the next room, Gareleth spots a fiery brazier at the east end of the chamber that makes the air uncomfortably hot and acrid. An eight-foot tall statue of a devil with large, curved horns stands at the west end. Across from the metal lattice is a collapsed, descending staircase. An ancient skeleton is partially buried under the rubble.
Kaseem realizes the brazier holds a fist-sized hunk of rock salt bearing a spell he can only guess is continual flame. Near the skeleton, he detects a rod under some debris. Picking up the rod, he sees it is decorated with emblems of elephants, jackals, and alligators.

Great, more and more this is looking like a Devil-infested hole. Parrameleh, can I borrow your torch for a minute? with that, Andrelis takes out a powder, and sprinkles it over his shortsword, silvering the blade.

Yuzu seems to greatly appreciate the jerky especially-- it tears up easy with her canid teeth-- but still partakes of a nibble of the other offered treats, as well.
"Two silver-blanched blades,
Fur tingles with charged static
Fear and courage, one."
She kneels, bracing her blade across her knee and both hands-- it's a large, unwieldy instrument, after all-- as she accepts Andrelis's aid in silvering it.

"So, we are descending the layers of hell, symbolically. Very Chelaxian."
Parrameleh looks at the rod, "What does it do?"
"I fear I do not have the skills to determine what it does but perhaps good Gareleth can assist with this matter."
Paging Gareleth, the party needs a Detect Magic combined with a Knowledge (Arcana) and/or a Spellcraft check please.
Kaseem watches Andrelis and Yuzu and starts scheming I mean thinking about suggesting Andrelis perhaps give Yuzu silver jewelry instead.
Yuzu Fokkusupō

Yuzu nods when the weapon is done being blanched-- it's quite a long blade, and the blanch only goes so far, so they settle for just treating the edge.
When she stands, she moves it into a more "ready" stance than she has been.
Jewelry? Where would she wear it??

Garaleth, you did not pass the Spellcraft check. DC is 22. So you have no idea what it is.
Where to now? You could excavate the rubble to the south, but it may take weeks. There is a set of stairs down in the northwest part of the room. Do you go down?
Oh, sorry! I looked at the DC for the statue when I scrolled up instead of the wand. Everyone ignore that I said that!!
"This strange rod is full of dark magic," Gareleth says, not certain what it is, "best if we take it back to the Grand Lodge to hand it over to those who are older and wiser in dealing with such powers," and sticks it in his backpack.
Kaseem ibn al Majid
|
"Wise plan Gareleth! Let's follow Andrelis and the others down the stairs."
Yuzu Fokkusupō

Assuming Andrelis doesn't find any problems, she lets her armored frame fill the hallway, blade out in front of her.
One of those "I wish I could Brace outside of combat" situations, honestly.
| GM Mauve |
Andrelis finds no evidence of traps as the group walks down the stairs. The next room stands before them. The echoing, lightless hall has a dark pool that extends most of its length. A walkway runs above the pool, but much of it has collapsed, leaving only the support pillars below. In the south, upon a platform at the end of the hall, stands a seven-foot-tall statue of a horned humanoid with a large, cryptic disc mounted upon its back. The hall turns to the west before the platform.
This room is in complete darkness. Those with darkvision can see the above, or if someone lights a torch.
To cross this 10-ft deep pool, you can hop across with a series of DC 12 Acrobatics checks (eight checks). OR you can hop across the collapsed sections of the collapsed sections of the walkway (three checks, but higher DC's). Failing any checks lands you in the water below.

Yuzu has a torch to supply; if no one has a free hand for her to stick it in, she'll carry it in her vulpine mouth.
I like to assume that's legal, since it's big enough to bite people and deal damage, but if not, I'll... figure something out.
She balks a little at the pool. She's a better swimmer than a jumper, but both are tricky in heavy armor... she thanks her kami, and takes a running start!

Parrameleh will go back to the grill and try to make it into a makeshift bridge.
Kaseem ibn al Majid

Kaseem throws one end of his rope into the pool towards Yuzu.
What roll does he need to make?
"Given Yuzu's armor I will need assistance pulling her out of the water."
| GM Mauve |
The water surface is only a few inches below the pillars. Any creature can climb back up. A creature can also swim across and climb up on the other side. A DC 10 Swim check is needed to swim across though!
No signs of life in the pool. Andrelis bounds across first - easy! Gareleth has some difficulty and falls off into the water about half way across. Yuzu doesn't even make it to the first pillar before slipping in the water!
Both Gareleth and Yuzu must make DC 10 Swim checks if they want to advance any further in the water. Either can instead just climb back up and try again from where they are.
After falling in the water, Garelthe and Yuzu feel... gross. A fine film of oil leaves a slick residue upon them. It's harmless... besides the smell and the stickiness. The only way to remove it would be a nice bubble bath.
Parrameleh decides to go back and get the metal gate. It's very rusted though, so climbing across it may break it. If you want to try, you'll have to roll some sort of check to see if it breaks as you walk across it.

Andrelis anchors the rope on his side, maybe this will help you get across? And can someone tie my armor to it to feed across, feeling a little unarmored over here. Like the Trog tower alone... the elf glances nervously around him, tapping his hands on his sword hilts.
