In case we get a surprise round then Zaarah will cast glitterdust on the elf and as many around him as possible.

@Everyone - please make sure that your stat bars are accurate.
@Zaarah - unless you wanted to try your luck at sneaking, you'd have to spend your Surprise Round action to move into the cave.

The stillness of the massive cavern is broken by a shout of pain. "F**$ing Sting's f*!*ing whips!" the elf cries, looking down at two arrows lodged in his side. The rest of the chamber's occupants snap to attention just in time to see Kramac and Beak rush down the rough stone steps. The half-orc cries out...

...but the man merely shakes his head. "State your business or be slain!" he answers, but the words tumble from his lips as if by instinct and not by intention.
@Kramac - yes, this would require Chameleon Stride to reach this location in one move action. Also, could you double-check the DC of Swaying Word? By my calculations, 10+(8/2)+2 = 16, not 17.
@Zaarah, @Kiboko, @Mvumbu - Assume that you are 15 to 20 ft off the map and can use your Surprise Round action to move onto the map.
"Shit, it's the murderer's friends!" the elf shrieks, spotting Fendel and Flyndyngylyn by the dim glow of the phosphorescent fungi that light the cavern. "Teko, stop standing there like a tongue-tied dolt giving a lecture and do something! Geppa, defend us!" The archers watch as he moves to put one of the many natural pillars holding up the ceiling of the massive cavern between himself and them.

Kiboko gives the signal to attack, and the two great hippos swiftly move to flank the nearest enemy before the foes can properly react.
Usual attack pattern - Kiboko moves into position then waits on Mvumbu to finish her attacks. Whilst Kiboko could make a powerful snapping flank in hippo form it does take his swift action and he's using that this round to change up Kiboko and Mvumbu's Animal Focus, on the assumption that there is adequate light for lowlight vision to suffice to see the targets.

The ledge is 30 ft high and the ceiling is 40 ft, so Kramac can get next to Geppa rather than above her.

The other bugbear's grip on his morningstar loosens as he hits the ground snoring. On the other side of the chasm, Geppa holds up a fist defiantly. "I am not the wicked murderer here!" she cries out in a clear voice. "Raven Spirit, I call upon you to defend the Roost!" The ring on her hand glows brilliantly, and a fierce musical cry echoes from the depths of the chasm. With a snap of her fingers, the woman vanishes.

These magical birds are renown for both their purity of spirit and command of flame, but their most famous feature is their ability to be reborn from the ashes of death once a year in a matter of seconds. If they are slain again within that year, however, they die permanently - and few things are more tragic than the true death of a phoenix.

If they are slain again within that year, however, they die permanently - and few things are more tragic than the true death of a phoenix. Only weapons of great evil or freezing cold can damage the great birds easily, and only these things can dampen their inherent regenerative abilities (even if only for a moment). Phoenixes are immune to the power of flame they command, and they even burn away all but the most powerful of spells before the magic can affect them.

As those buffs were not in your stat bar at the time of resolution, they were not. Now that they are present, they will be accounted for during resolutions of future rounds.
Fendel attempts to dispatch the remaining enemy archer, but his first arrow seems less effective against the human and the second misses entirely. (Not elf and not evil - also reduced damage by 2 due to lack of "enhancement" bonus from Bane.)
Kramac speeds over the bridge, his excellent teamwork with his burning bird keeping the two of them from falling victim to the phoenix's massive claws. As the two hit the water, a loud hissing sound fills the room - as does the sound of thunder and the glow of lightning that surrounds Beak.

But when he snaps his jaws shut, he sees that the canny swordsman has stepped back after his powerful blow - out of reach of Kiboko's mighty maw.
Teko had a readied action with a trigger of someone attacking him in melee to attack first and take a 5 ft step back. Since this happens after Kiboko stops moving and starts attacking, Kiboko can't move to get him back in range.
Also, forgot to update the round tracker with Kiboko's fast healing at the start of his turn - this is reflected now. I'm assuming the wand was activated by Zaarah immediately before the surprise round, but please correct me if the duration is not accurate.

This is an Immediate action.
Post coming from Kiboko...
AM HIPPO
Ok, so the plan here is this: Kiboko is still forced to make his attack, but Mvumbu snags the enemy warrior and keeps him in the flank. However, Kiboko is now exhausted and sickened, negating his rage. In those circumstances he chooses not to Power Attack, but retains Combat Expertise, and I use my GM reroll. I'll only use the reroll if the GM agrees that dropping Power Attack is reasonable.
Kiboko, reeling from the swordsman's blow and wondering if he's been cursed with some condition causing his vital organs to move towards enemy weapons, prepares for the worst.
Swift action to change his Animal Focuses to Mouse (evasion) and Tiger (+4 DEX). I'd love Bear too, but I need a chance at passing any Reflex saves whilst sickened and exhausted.
Mvumbu's Entangle will last until right before Kiboko's next turn starts.
ETA: One more thing to note, GM, Kiboko's Scarred class feature (scarred rager barbarian archetype) halves the duration of any exhausted or sickened condition that does not grant a save.
AM HIPPO
As Mvumbu snags the bridge guardian in revenge for his near-maiming Kiboko, Kiboko's own massive jaws close in...

"Officially" stating the retcon discussed in the Discord chat here:
- Fendel and Kiboko have not died. This means Fendel's talisman of life's breath and first aid gloves are unused, and neither character currently has a negative level.
Fendel Miss Chance, 1 = Miss: 1d5 ⇒ 4
So the javelin still hit. Fire resistance has also been applied to the turn tracker, reducing Fendel's damage taken by 10 hitpoints.
The bridge erupts in a bloodbath as hippos maul the guardian from both sides - Mvumbu holding the canny fighter in place long enough for the exhausted, but still raging Kiboko to take a bite as well. Teko spits blood and gasps, "My fallen comrades would say otherwise."
@Kiboko - I've reduced the damage by 4 points to account for being exhausted. Could you verify that this is correct? Also, is the bleed damage set at 3 points each round now or a new 1d6 each round? I've noted the reduction in Sickened's duration in the tracker (thank you for the reminder!), but since the Exhausting Critical feat doesn't give a duration I think Kiboko's stuck with that until he rests for an hour. Could you verify that as well?

The fighter takes two arrows to the chest, but swings his shield around to block the third. Thinking fast, Fendel shifts his aim lower. Teko grunts in pain, slowly collapsing to the ground in a clatter of armor. One word passes through his bloodied lips on his dying breath.
"...murderers..."
The remaining archer takes aim at Mvumbu, but his arms are shaking as he sees what happened to his companion.

Zaarah is clearly very concerned about this phoenix.
“I know that you are a good being phoenix but you are killing us ... and I cannot allow that!“ she says softly.
"Mesh, you have to be cold now!!"
She activates her boots of speed and concentrates so that her black blade turns to ice!

Zaarah tries to parry the talons away, but the bird is too big! The claw cuts Zaarah's arm, but the magus presses the attack. She swings, and the phoenix screeches in pain as Mesh cuts deep into it. Zaarah dodges the burning feathers surrounding the enormous bird like a shroud, but the heat from its body burns her hand as the blade tastes flaming blood.
Fire damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3 No save on this one - creatures that hit the phoenix with a natural attack or non-reach weapon take this damage.
A shout echoes from somewhere to the east, and the phoenix cries back with its melodious voice. It shudders, the flame from its feathers flickering out for a brief second before being replaced with crackling lightning!
It's an electric phoenix now. Yay? I'm pretty sure that means it's now immune to electricity and not fire, but I'm less certain about its vulnerability and spells. Let's discuss in the Discord chat.
The arcane words of spellcasting can be heard from the same general direction, but Geppa remains unseen.
The electrified phoenix flaps back from Zaarah and closes its eyes in concentration for a moment. Brilliant blue light surrounds the bird, and Zaarah watches as lightning dances back and forth across the blacked gash in its chest, shrinking it with every pass until the wound all but disappears.

Mvumbu
The immediate danger to Kiboko having been dealt with, Mvumbu sniffs the air and turns to seek out new enemies.
She follows direction from Kiboko towards the place that Kramac indicates, and detects the woman Geppa's scent!
A ledge is no protection against a hippo enchanted with a Spider Climb spell!
This looks like two move actions - one along the ground, just gets Mvumbu to the bottom of the ledge; and a second using Spider Climb to get up the ledge. Scent is telling Mvumbu the general direction that Geppa lies in to help her get in the general area, and if she gets within 5 feet of Geppa she'll pinpoint the square.
Mvumbu will wait for direction from Kiboko to act right after him, but I'm posting her action first.
"Moooaaaarrgghhhhh!!!!"
Mvumbu might take a little damage from the wall of fire as she reaches the ledge.
AM HIPPO
"Seek the enemy, Mvumbu, but do not kill."
push Mvumbu, DC25: 1d20 + 19 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 19 - 2 = 24
Seek is a free command, as Mvumbu knows the trick. I pushed to try to get her to do non-lethal damage when she attacks.
Kiboko, too tired to get there himself, sends Mvumbu after Geppa. But the pain of his injuries distracts him, and he can't be certain that Mvumbu won't try to take her own vengeance.
Too slow, and badly injured, Kiboko takes cover on the underside of the bridge. Or on the side if it's thick enough, just looking to get out of line of sight of the phoenix if possible; relying on spider climb which does let you stick upside down.
Will maintain rage, but not Ferocious Beast, so Mvumbu will now be fatigued.
I think that damage adjustment was correct. For variable bleed effects I would roll each round (moot now). I think Exhaustion's indefinite duration isn't affected by Scarred.

@Everyone - there's a new page in the slide deck for noting current conditions and active effects. If you think it needs another category or something else, go ahead and add it. Otherwise, please fit it out at your earliest convenience.
Fendel doesn't see Geppa after releasing the magic from the scroll, but judging by where Kramac is pointing and Mvumbu is heading, she's behind one of the numerous stone columns. As the one hippo climbs up, the burning ring of fire scorches her...
Fire damage: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7
...and the other hippo climbs down, clinging to the underside of the bridge. Below Kiboko, the stone walls fall away into darkness. I'm uncertain if Kiboko retains his Darkvision while in hippo form, but the chasm is more than 60 ft deep so it's not terribly urgent to figure that out. Flyndyngylyn releases a burst of arrows, though judging from the sounds only the last one strikes its invisible target.
On the ground, the lone archer looks at the bow in his hands and at the large bird hovering over him. Drawing the sword at his hip, he swings desperately at Beak!

I got confused why Zaarah was worrying about DR until I reread her Black Blade blurb and saw that the effect only lasts 1 round.
Phoenix Will vs DC 21: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25
The electric bird screeches in defiance of Zaarah's hex, the sound harsher and more gritty than its previous cries as a firebird. Kramac watches as Geppa weaves magic around herself before vanishing in a burst of light to reappear behind a rocky pillar near the airborne combatants.
The phoenix warbles a worried cry and floats down slightly from the ceiling. Carefully it extends a claw around the pillar...
Phoenix Concentration vs DC 23: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (19) + 24 = 43
Healing: 4d8 + 18 ⇒ (5, 6, 6, 7) + 18 = 42
...and Kramac watches as Geppa's cuts and bruises begin to close up and heal themselves.
The remaining small wound on the phoenix's chest from Mesh closes itself as well - the great bird's innate regenerative powers at work again, no doubt. The cloud of electrified feathers surrounding the phoenix dissipates, as if it were afraid of hurting its companion.
No shroud of flame sparks this round, so no need to make reflex saves against it.

Kiboko remains under the bridge, but slowly makes his way towards the far side. He focuses on his link to Mvumbu, taking comfort in her strength and vigour.

Mvumbu will move towards whichever enemy is still conscious, or will move to Kiboko if no enemies stand other than the phoenix, which she cannot reach.

@Zaarah - apologies for the confusion. The phoenix took a 5 ft step.
Flyndyngylyn's arrows puncture the enemy archer's side, sending him to the ground in a pool of blood. Fendel moves forward, activating the wand and once against summoning purple flames to coat his invisible adversary. Kramac and Beak rush in, chopping and biting at the now-visible Geppa until she falls to the ground. Kramac quickly dismounts and pulls the large ring off her finger. As he slides it onto his own hand, the phoenix above cries out once more before floating down to the ground and folding its wings.
Out of Initiative! Go ahead and include any restorative actions you'd like to take in your next post. And someone please do something about the sleeping bugbear in the next 7 rounds. XD
The phoenix shakes its head, and the blue coloration fades away to reveal its typical fiery plumage once more. The great bird's shape changes as well - the raven-like features melting into those similar to a swan or heron like Beak.
"Well met." The phoenix's voice is tremendous yet soft, powerful yet gentle, harsh yet melodious. "I am Zaliex. As the wielder of the ring my spirit is bound to, you are now my Master." She bows her head submissively to Kramac before raising it to look him in the eye. "It has been many years since the Pathfinder Teppin Montrose captured me in the Windswept Wastes to the east. He was a cruel, indifferent master - I am not sad to have been in the service of the one who calls himself the Red Raven. He at least has a noble heart and knows the difference between right and wrong. But even he would not release me from my forced servitude."
She closes her eyes, each as large as the half-orc's head, then reopens them. "As I asked him then, so I ask you now - will you give the ring to me that I may swallow it and never again be forced to be the slave of any master? Montrose bound me here forever and I cannot leave this chamber even now, but to be granted even this small measure of freedom would make my heart sing once more."

What do you do?
Zaarah Katsu

Zaarah is super relieved.
”Good job guys!“ Zaarah says goggling.
She looks at the majestic bird.
”And you Phoenix seem to have a problem. I am honest that I do not want anybody to be a slave but at the same time I know that you have a lot of information about the people that forced you to do all of this against your will! So you tell us your story and then we can do everything in our power to help you!“
AM HIPPO
Kiboko crawls back to the surface, and slumps down on his belly, his eyes almost closed.
"Great Zaliex... How can you say that the Red Raven is noble?... he and his followers invaded our home... he murdered one of us himself whilst his followers tried to kill the rest... and the elf that we tracked here was personally responsible for the murder of three defenceless servants!
These people have neither nobility nor honour, else they would have released you...
Which we surely will. Although first, if it is in your power Great Zaliex, will you heal our wounds as you healed yourself and Geppa?"
Kiboko looks pointedly at Kramac.

Flyn breathes a sigh of relief as Kramac wears the ring and the Phoenix comes to heel. He then moves quickly over to the fallen Geppa and checks her vitals and stabilizes her as needed...
Heal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
...once he’s sure she’s stable, he’ll bind her arms and legs so she won’t panic/run off when they bring her around...
Escape Artist: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (16) + 24 = 40
...and he casts detect evil in her direction only...
The Elf then moves over to stand next to his friends before the Phoenix...
Flyn bows to the noble creature, nodding in agreement with Kiboko and Zaarah. ”Aye, we will free you...and I suspect there is much we don’t know about the Red Raven and his motives. Hopefully, the lady here will be able to tell us more. We mean her no harm, but I have restrained her so she will not panic when she awakens...
“Do you know where the Red Raven is? I’d imagine you might not know much about our circumstances or what the Red Raven and his allies here are up to but anything you could tell us would be appreciated...”
Kramac
|
Flynn, when you finish with her, do not forget to bind the sleeping bugbear.
As he speaks, Kramac will pace around the room, casting stabilize on any of the fallen enemies that still yet live.
Zaliex, of course we will free you if what you say is true and your heart is noble
Kramac will use his detect alignment ability to cast Detect Good on the phoenix, and make a sense motive check.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (2) + 22 = 24
Assuming that all comes up as expected (good alignment and no deception detected), Kramac will toss the Phoenix the ring and continue,
Please tell us more of the Red Raven's noble spirit. Our experiences with him have been that he invaded the home of our allies, murdered one of them, along with many servants, stole Pathfinder property, and fled.

Zaarah nods. “Kramac, I think the society needs us to find out everything. Can you please order her to answer all our questions?!?“
She looks at the Phoenix.
“Exactly lady Phoenix! We are super kind people and it is definitely strange that we have some moral issues here but I am sure that we can clarify all of this at the right time! But now is the time for you to spill the beans! Tell us about the person that imprisoned you and tell us about those people that we we fought! We need to know everything!“

Fendel takes time to help Flynn secure the bugbear. He then sees to his wounds.
Wand of Infernal Healing. Will use a charge every minute until topped off.
He listens to Zaarah's interchange with the phoenix. "Just because a thing can be done, it does not mean that thing should be done. Compelling her to answer our inquires adds insult to an entity who has already suffered a great deal of victimization. The creature has endured enough and should be freed. Our desire for knowledge does not outweigh its right to freedom and to live by its own agency."
