Thyx watched as everyone put on a helmet. He looked over at Yip and offered up his long arm 'It has a better range then what she had.'
Kip looked at the hunting rifle, and giggled. "Thanks, Thyx, but I don't think I could get that thing in my armpit." She stretched out her arm, showing him how unsuited she was to the weapon. Drawing her pistol, she said, "I'll be okay with this."
Seeing the android hesitate at the door of the airlock, the ysoki guessed at what he was thinking. Patting him on the thigh with a clinking noise, she said, "We won't leave you out there. No matter what happens. Promise."
**
"Ow"! Kip complained, more startled than actually damaged. Her voice echoed tinnily in her helmet, echoing a second time over her comms.
Her pistol was already in her gloved hand, and she was grateful for the good quality suit she had, with the thin, dexterous glove attachments. Aiming carefully, she shot at the leech to her right. Bottom left on the map Her bullet glanced off its strange hide, leaving a long, shallow, but relatively minor wound.
"Vulk!" Kip swore, seeing the leech approach unfazed. She backed up along the hull of the Blackmoon, not wanting to get too close to the leeches.

Thyx |

Seeing the android hesitate at the door of the airlock, the ysoki guessed at what he was thinking. Patting him on the thigh with a clinking noise, she said, "We won't leave you out there. No matter what happens. Promise."
Thyx searched Kip's face. She seemed more in-touch with what he was feeling than he did. He shouldered his hunting rifle ... she was right, her arms were not meant for the long gun.
-----Thyx doesn't go until after the first round initiatives but I had some time to post
Thyx was facing away from the crew, his eyes locked on the worm in front of him. They couldn't see his face as he was struck by the creature's electric discharge. It was like part of him woke up, his eyes widened, and the left corner of his mouth curled into a little smirk. He lunged slightly as his left arm flew out to the side and his right hand raised off of his hip. He didn't so much pull the trigger on his auto-pistol as make a fist like he was punching the worm from a distance. A split second later the belly of the worm before him ruptured as its' ooze splattered outward, threatening to span the distance between them.
Thyx wasn't content as he kept his eye on the target and tracked left, watching his distance.

Robert Magnusson |

Tactical pistol vs. leech: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 Nope
"Hellfire," Robert muttered as another shot went wide - this time pinging off the hull, missing even more than his first attempt at violence. "If you can herd those critters together I can try to do something about them, but it's not worth the effort for me to try and fry them one by one."
Move two squares down and one to the left - Robert has no interest in getting anywhere close to the critters.

OOC: Please don't wait for others to post before posting because it just prolongs the game.
The only time you need to wait is if you are not part of the group that goes before the enemy during the Round 1.
Once the enemies act in Round 1 then everyone acts (some in Round 1 and others in Round 2), which is where we are now. At that time, there's no waiting necessary or even encouraged. If there's some action that depends on someone else (someone doing something to enhance your action) then assume it works if you know about it or don't worry as I'll sort things out.

Sigirijus "Nine Lives" Malumaje |

sheet is updated. I realised he'd also have the stuff the old captain left behind (like toothbrush, comb, cutlery etc).
I feel a bit bad about how poorly I min-maxed him though.
Round 1
"You alright Kip?" Sigirijus called over the comms.
Inside the psychokinetic shielding, the Vesk cracked his head to the side and grumbled. "Alright. Someone's getting a kicking." Doing some quick calculations he took off towards the port side (NE).
Vesk trained extensively to run in mag-boots. They even trained to charge in them. The first, and most important lesson, was "don't".
Boots clomped and clicked as the Vesk moved from one side to the next, each stride comically long.
The Razor sharp claw-coverings shined as he closed the gap, but the captain had a simpler move in mind, and simply barreled towards the lightning worm.
I think mag boots means he can move? Not sure what this does to movement rate, though.
If he can make the distance, looking at move + bull rush
attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 vs KAC +8. Aiming to knock it up
if the mag boots make the terrain difficult (so move half) then will move + full defence and next round move+bull rush
Round 2
"Good shot Thyx!" the Captain called encouragement.

Kamiya Opunui |

Are these leeches heavier than 10 pounds? I'm assuming so but thought I'd ask. I wasn't sure if they were lighter in space...
Kamiya's insides twisted with anger as she got her first glimpse of the leeches feasting on Honu. She wasn't sure how much her fighting abilities would help but she may be able to help the others with their attacks. She worked with the Captain by following him just far enough to get within range of the disgusting worm he was targeting and then released a burst of mental energy at it. She hoped that she would be able to incapacitate it enough that the Captain would be able to push it out into space or take off its head. "I'm trying to incapacitate it, Captain. Be ready to take advantage if it works."
Daze at whatever leech that Sig is targeting. She needs to be within 30ft of it. It gets a will save but I can't imagine their will would be very good.

Sigirijus grunted as the leech chomped through his armour. Giving up on detaching the damned thing he switched to a simpler strategy.

OOC: Don't fret. Let's assume they came with the starship.
You do know that there's a big disconnect between starship economy and PC economy, right? I mean I'm sure you guys could sell parts of the starship and buy the most sophisticated (expensive) equipment for yourselves.

So what counts as 'humanoid' when you're dealing with aliens?
Anything 'sentient' that walks on two 'appendages' is probably a humanoid.
On a case by case basis, the description of the 'monster' will tell you.
Example:
Damai CR 1/2
XP 200
N Medium humanoid (damai)
Init +3; Senses low-light vision; Perception +9
All the 'aliens' are here.

Kamiya Opunui |

Thanks for that list of aliens. Very helpful
The lashunta inwardly groaned when she realized that her ability to manipulate minds was lost on the drift leeches. That meant that she was going to be completely useless in freeing Honu from the unwanted hitchhikers. "Sorry, Captain. Their minds aren't advanced enough to incapacitate."
Kamiya yelped in surprise as one of the leeches got too close for comfort. She began to back away, keeping an eye on the creatures in case they tried to attack her again.
Going Total Defense to get as far away from them as she can

Robert Magnusson |

Well, it got close enough... casting overheat, then scooting away as far north as Robert can get.
Overheat: 2d8 ⇒ (3, 5) = 8 Ref DC 16 for half
"Oh no you don't," Robert muttered as one of the leeches crawled too close for comfort. Deciding to forget his pistol now that the enemy had brought itself to range, the technomancer crouched down to place the palm of his left hand on the ship’s hull, feeling the heat generated by its engines, heat that the ship needed to constantly radiate into the void of space so as not to boil its crew alive.
Heat that could be taken, channeled, put to a good use if one just knew the way.
Murmuring a quick equation under his breath, Robert drew some of that heat up, through the hull, into his own body. He felt himself bathing in sudden sweat as his body temperature spiked, but he knew the pain and discomfort wouldn’t last long. He extended his arm towards the approaching leech and released the heat he had drawn into himself in a burst of crimson flames that winked out as quickly as they had appeared, but not before scorching the drift-creature, distracting it long enough for the technomancer to back away to a safe distance.

Thyx |

Round 2
"Good shot Thyx!" the Captain called encouragement.
Thyx turned, coming out of his strange focus for a second to nod at the Captain. Unconsciously, the android spun his pistol around his index finger and tensed to back to work. He then watched, horrified, as the Captain charged one of the worms landing in a violent grapple.
Round 3
Thyx started to rush to the captain's aid but as he started to move forward noticed one of the creatures getting dangerously close to Kamiya. He looked to the captain, then to Kamiya, then back. He gave the captain a look, 'Hold on for a few seconds Sir' and moved to get a good shot in to assist their pilot. Bringing his left hand up to steady the end of the grip, he squeezed off a shot. A silent, tidy hole appeared near the worm's tail-end as the bullet disappeared inside.

With a final grunt, Sigirijus managed to pull apart the leech. Thick, viscous ichor sprayed across the hull, the captain and the vastness of the drift.
With a bloodthirsty hiss the captain swung around... to find them victorious.
"The field is clear?" he asked the others "We are victorious?"
Action 2
"These things any good, Magnusson? Natural capacitors, or good eating or something? Oh, I say - looks like the blood is eating through my suit." Nine lives considered "Might be best if I was first through the airlock, then?"

Robert Magnusson |

"These things any good, Magnusson? Natural capacitors, or good eating or something? Oh, I say - looks like the blood is eating through my suit." Nine lives considered "Might be best if I was first through the airlock, then?"
”Yeah, I think I’ll go with a ‘no’ about eating one of them,” Robert said, rolling his eyes. ”They eat electricity, for stars’ sake. If you want to have those kinda kicks, go lick a power cell. But could be those things are good for something. Grap one of the corpses if you like – one of the more intact ones, for preference. I can dissect it and see what makes it tick.”
”Anyway, anyone got chomps good there?” Robert said, taking a closer look at the leech his flames had scorched. The way its bodily fluids had boiled and were even now spurting from where internal pressure had ruptured its flesh was giving the technomancer some ideas… ”Anyone wanna have me take the pain away? I’m sure the med kit on the ship still has some of the good stuff left.”
Perhaps opening one up and seeing where its organs reside could be of some minor use if we were to ever encounter more of these things… like a +1 bonus to confirm crits for knowing their anatomy inside out ;^)

Kamiya Opunui |

Why did you specifically say to collect Kamiya? Did I move her somewhere further than I thought? :)
Action 2:
"Might be best if I was first through the airlock, then?"
Kamiya nodded, ”This time we make sure you get back into the ship safely before the rest of us. So, in you go.”
The concerned pilot ran her hand along one of Honu’s walls as she ducked inside. She murmured to the ship as she walked, ”Kip will do some diagnostics and make sure that those leeches didn’t do any permanent damage. You keep us safe and we keep you safe.”
Kamiya sidled up beside Kip, ”Can we go make sure that Honu is okay? I’d like to learn what kinds of things you look for after an assault.”

*Kip |

"The field is clear?" he asked the others "We are victorious?"
"You bet your scales we're victorious! High four!" Kip cried in excitement, trying to leap up to slap the Captain's hand. Of course, the safety mechanism in the boots wouldn't let both leave the hull at the same time, so she ended up just leaping inside her suit. "High four!" she repeated, hopping with one foot and trying to get some height. She still couldn't get high enough, so she said, "Raincheck. We'll do it inside."
Kamiya sidled up beside Kip, ”Can we go make sure that Honu is okay? I’d like to learn what kinds of things you look for after an assault.”
"Of course!" Kip agreed. "Though I don't really know exactly what to look for after something like this. Usually it's gun or laser fire I'm patching up. But we'll make sure she's okay."
”Anyone wanna have me take the pain away? I’m sure the med kit on the ship still has some of the good stuff left.”
"I'm okay," Kip promised. "Just a little zorched. Nothing a drink and a sit-down won't take care of."

Thyx |

Action 2:
Sig wrote:"Might be best if I was first through the airlock, then?"Kamiya nodded, ”This time we make sure you get back into the ship safely before the rest of us. So, in you go.”
"You all go in. I'm going to do a sweep of the hull." Thyx holstered his pistol and unshouldered his hunting rifle. He carried it like a baby, the stock in the crook of his right elbow and the barrel laying over the crook of his left. He slowly walked off in the direction of the dorsal turret. Once he had been alone for a minute or two he stopped and looked out at the wild and changing colours of the drift. He was hypnotized. The strange specks that collided and exploded must have been lightyears away and the size of galaxies. Little flashes of light that he took for other ships entering and leaving came and went in instants. 'Beautiful' He stood in place for a few minutes staring out before remembering he was at work. He trod off towards the bridge and looked in from the outside then continued on.
Thyx will look over as much of the hull as he can get to with the mag boots and then go back in and report to the Captain
Fabian Benavente |

Why did you specifically say to collect Kamiya? Did I move her somewhere further than I thought? :)
OOC: Not much. I did have you withdraw (no attacks of opportunity from initial square and double movement) while everyone else was just moving once and doing something else.
Recapping now.

Kamiya Opunui |

Action 2:
Kamiya leaned down and asked Kip, "Are you sure you don't need Robert to take a look at you? Maybe just take the happy pills anyways? You could always save them for later, just saying."
The lashunta followed the ysoki around as she did diagnostics on Honu. The watched anxiously over Kip's shoulder, "Everything good? Did those things do any damage to Honu?"
Action 3:
In preparation for landing, Kamiya spent some time studying up on where they were going. She read everything she had access to about the planet and about Madelon’s Landing so that she'd be prepared when they landed.
When she wasn't reading, she would take a walk to the bridge to make sure that everything looked okay and that Honu wasn't setting off any other alarms. The last thing they needed were more drift leeches.

Sigirijus "Nine Lives" Malumaje |

Action 1:
The captain nodded, and held up his hands - still sizzling with the acidic blood - apologetically. "Probably for the best."
Action 3:
Captain Sigirijus addressed the crew through the comms "Alright. We should be inside the window for emergence, so the good news is there are no drills today. If you hear an alarm or alert, give it everything you have, because we are going to be live. Everything should go easy, but there are 4000 reasons for someone to try something, and last time we had an easy missions someone - not naming any names - died."
"Everyone should check their equipment, and especially their weapons and armour. Password is Ramshackle, and duress password is Ewehouse - don't get them confused. We'll be taking shifts - 2 on, 2 off - in the bridge in case we get an unexpected emergence."

Robert Magnusson |

Action 2
True to his word, Robert spent an instructive half-a-day elbows deep into the carcass of one of the leeches, amusing himself by making a detailed 3D model of the creature's innards, verifying with direct observation what scans of the dead creature had revealed. Whether any of it would come useful in the future was anyone's guess, but if nothing else, there might be a reward for uploading the data into some system's xenobiological datasphere for local scientists to mull over. And even if not for that, the autopsy gave some variety to the technomancer's shipboard life - there was only so much research one wanted to conduct on on sitting, and since he had been denied the chance to dismantle Thyx for parts the ship's entertainment suite left something to be desired and was starting to feel a bit repetitive after 15 days or perusing its wares.
Action 3
"Right, can't say I'm looking forward to see a proper starfield after two weeks of that crap," Robert grunted as he planted his behind on his seat on the bridge, gesturing at the main view screen with one hand while the other danced on the keyboard before him, running last-minute diagnostics... not that he expected them to turn any different than all the others the ship's computer had ran over the last few days.

Sigirijus "Nine Lives" Malumaje |

Sigirijus was on full alert as the ship slipped spaces. When the alert bleated he was quick to kill it and look around.
"This is not a drill. Stations, everyone. Kip, Magnusson, I need to know what we're facing, and whether we run or fight. Opunui, if we can't run, try to keep us between them, stop them focussing on a shield. Thyx - time to show all those drills paid off."
The captain quickly texted an encouraging emoji, hoping that whatever had been glitching the android had finally shaken loose...

"Drones of some kind - too small to hold a pilot, unless they are Snow-white's miniature cousins," Robert said, suddenly attentive as he realized his own bacon might be in a danger to meet the fire. "Never seen that particular configuration before. I say we kill 'em and figure out who built 'em by examining the pieces?"
Crew action: Divert to Science: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 +2 bonus to Science rolls this round, if Angie wants to scan the baddies.
"Kip, here's more juice for the scanners for a bit," he said, eyes glued to his console as he began juggling ship's subsystems' energy budgets. "Make the most of it."

*Kip |

Action 1
Kip giggled a bit, then patted Kamiya gently between her antennae. "Don't worry, TortAce! I'm fine, Blackmoon is fine. Those nasty slugs didn't hurt her. Just made her a bit tired."
Action 2
Kip spent the last few days reading over Kamiya's shoulder, and getting more and more antsy. She didn't really like Drift space. It wasn't anywhere that made sense, and she didn't like that you could run into almost literally anything out here. She wanted to be back in regular space again.
Action 3
Jumping in her seat, Kip felt her heart racing as the alarm sounded. Her paws danced over the buttons and sensors at her station, and information began to trickle in about their enemy. As a holographic image of the drone appeared before her, it triggered a memory. "I've seen these before! The Azlanti Star Empire - they use these!" Her heart beating even faster, she said, "Did we come out in the right place? The Azlanti are dangerous - they kill everybody!"

Thyx |

Action 1
Thyx returned to the airlock and decontaminated. He went directly to Sigirijus, "All clear on the hull. No signs of anymore parasites." He was relatively certain the report was redundant but he wanted an excuse to check on the captain. He stood there quietly for a little too long as their leader finished getting patched up.
Action 2
The last few days, the android had taken to staying on the bridge. Unless he was needed for a chore or Kip wanted to train some more he could be found at his station. He played around with small reconfigurations of the controls to see if he could reduce his past awkwardness.
Action 3
As soon as the blips came into sight Thyx decided to head to the turret. When he was just outside the door he could hear the captain's call "This is not a drill." he double timed it to the dorsal ladder and climbed into the seat. Flipping the comms switch he just caught Kip.
"I've seen these before! The Azlanti Star Empire - they use these!" Her heart beating even faster, she said, "Did we come out in the right place? The Azlanti are dangerous - they kill everybody!"
Thyx brought up the scanner info that Kip was sharing. He didn't recognize the attackers but to say they were drones. He only had the vague recollection of the Azlanti. "Captain, I suggest Kip take the gyrolaser whenever the drones come into the forward quadrant. Can we get any closer? We're almost two range increments out. Permission to fire?" At the Captain's word Thyx spins the turret to the drone on their port and took a pot-shot at their front quarter. A split second later their front shield flashed.

At the Captain's word Thyx spins the turret to the drone on their port and took a pot-shot at their front quarter. A split second later their front shield flashed.
Didn't even need the +2 from Aid!
Sigirijus grinned - not a gesture of amusement in the carnivorous Vesk as Thyx's drillwork and practice played off. "Good plan. Kip - good work on computers, unless they're on our six take the gyrolaser. Magnusson, you're pulling double duty on Engineering and Computers while Kip is at work."
Kamiya Opunui |

Kip giggled a bit, then patted Kamiya gently between her antennae. "Don't worry, TortAce! I'm fine, Blackmoon is fine. Those nasty slugs didn't hurt her. Just made her a bit tired."
No one had patted Kamiya on the head since she was a child. If it had been anyone else, she may have been put off by the gesture but not so with Kip. The lashunta knew that it was meant to be comforting rather than patronizing and so she couldn't help but smile. "Thanks, Kip. It's good to be reassured everyone's fine."
Kip spent the last few days reading over Kamiya's shoulder, and getting more and more antsy. She didn't really like Drift space. It wasn't anywhere that made sense, and she didn't like that you could run into almost literally anything out here. She wanted to be back in regular space again.
Kamiya pointed at one of the pictures of Nakondis for Kip's benefit and said, "It reminds me a lot of home because it's temperate and has a lot of trees. But unlike home, it has this weird electrical property that can make the skin tingle and in larger amounts can wreak havoc on electrical systems. It's fascinating that the fauna that exists on the planet have developed either an immunity to electricity or the ability to sense the building electrical charge so they can escape before being affected." Her eyes widened as she read the entry about hobgars, "We definitely need to make sure we keep Honu away from any area containing hobgars. I don't want them gnawing on any of his wiring."
Action 3:
Opunui, if we can't run, try to keep us between them, stop them focussing on a shield.
Kamiya saw in her monitor where the drones were positioned in relation to Honu. If she kept going then they'd soon be behind them and no one wanted them on their six. She immediately backed off so that she could follow the Captain's orders and keep Honu between them.

*Kip |

Nervous, Kip scampered to the gyrolaser. The targeting system brought the holographic vector image up to her eye, the drone wobbling and bobbing within it. Trying to remember what Thyx had taught her, she moved the joystick in smooth arcs (smooth! don't jolt it!) until the red image changed to green. "Firing port side!" she cried out, squeezing the trigger and watching the yellow bolt of light shoot silently into space.
gunnery: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Luck was with her, and the laser cut into the drone's hull. "Direct hit!" she squealed, readying herself for another attack.

Thyx |

Thyx checked the instrumentation and found a winky face and exclamation mark in his personal feed from the captain. It had been there for a while but he must have missed it. He pondered it for a split second then tried to strafe the side of the drone as it shot forward and Kamiya pulled Blackmoon back. The long bolt of light flashed out through empty space a half second before the drone was in position. He sent an emoji back to the captain that he though looked like a chocolate macaroon by way of apology for the miss.

"Good plan. Kip - good work on computers, unless they're on our six take the gyrolaser. Magnusson, you're pulling double duty on Engineering and Computers while Kip is at work."
"Double the pay as well then, right?" Robert grunted, tapping a few commands to reconfigure his console to bring up science station's main functions on top of his engineering displays.

Thyx |

Thyx squinted and waited. A tickle grew in his belly as he watched the drone to port. When he couldn't stand the queasy feeling he shot a sustained blast on the same attacker. A spark flashed off of its' hull. Over the comms you'd swear you heard a little giggle.

*Kip |

Oops, sorry for missing the damage roll. Did you add the +2 I got from engineering?
Kip kept her eyes on the drone to port, though it was more ahead than to the side at this point. Kamiya was backing them off so smoothly that the holographic targeting system barely wiggled. Taking a deep breath in, she squeezed the trigger again, and was rewarded with a second the beam of energy scoring across the drone's hull.

Kamiya Opunui |

pilot check Rd3: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 9 + 1 = 13
I guess we go first, then.
Kamiya was momentarily distracted as she tried to figure out what these drones were trying to accomplish. ”Can these drones hurt us? Do they have guns? If they don’t, then what are they trying to do?”
sense motive(expertise) - why would the drones be aggressive? Is this normal?: 1d20 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 4 + (4) = 11
Before Kamiya can come to any sort of conclusion, her attention is pulled back to the more pressing matter at hand which was to pilot Honu. She stopped backing off now that the drones were in front of them and moved steadily forward to give Thyx and Kip the chance to fire on the drones.
Kamiya might do something different if she knows whether they have guns to fire on them or not.
