Kamiya’s 10min background
5 things about your character:
• Born on Castrovel in Qabarat to middle-upper class parents. Her mother, Kamala, is a professor of political science at one of the Universities in Qabarat. Kamala decided early on that her daughter would become an Ambassador since tenuous political alliances would always need diplomates to keep relations smooth and communication channels open.
• Kamiya’s father, Akamu, is an engineer who enjoys tinkering with machines. For as long as Kamiya can remember, after finishing all her school work like a dutiful daughter, she would be with her father in his workshop working on machines. It was here that she discovered that machines could move and move very fast. Although her father encouraged her love of fast machines, her mother felt it was a waste of time and soon Kamiya found herself hiding that part of her life from her parents – she also hid it from her father so that he wouldn’t be in conflict with her mother.
• As most lashuntas, Kamiya went through school and into University. As a teenager she often snuck out of the house to drive. One of her good friends, Mahina, she met in middle school and was the one who encouraged Kamiya’s love of all things fast. Mahina loved enhancing any vehicle to make it go faster but didn’t really find driving fun. This made it the perfect partnership – Mahina would fine-tune the vehicle and Kamiya would test drive it. Some of the jumps Kamiya would take in the land vehicles caused her to start thinking about flying someday and this remains her goal – to pilot things that fly.
• Mahina wanted to tape Kamiya’s antics but Kamiya knew she’d need a disguise just in case it got back to her parents what she was doing at night. She thought it would be cool to name herself after a fast animal from the pre-Gap era. Qabarat had a large selection of pre-Gap archives. One day she found a book of stories and one of them was called ‘The Tortoise and the Hare.’ The book was really old and some of the pages were missing but since the tortoise won the race, Kamiya assumed that it must have been a fast animal on old Golarion so she made the tortoise her moniker. Mahina pointed out that if Kamiya wanted to be an ace pilot one day that her name should actually be Tort-Ace. Kamiya thought it was a brilliant idea and her alter ego was born. The exploits of Tort-Ace have been posted for public viewing which consists of someone dressed up in a green disguise resembling a tortoise with the name Tort-Ace embroidered across the chest, piloting various vehicles throughout Qabarat as fast as they can. Fluke Icon? – they make the tapes for fun but maybe she has more viewers than she knows…
• Kamiya recently graduated with a degree from University and has accepted an intern position on Absalom Station. Her mother was thrilled as this was a step closer to her daughter becoming an Ambassador. Kamiya mainly took the position so that she’d have access to hopefully learning how to pilot a spaceship. She will play the role of dutiful daughter so that she can do what she really wants to do.
2 goals for character:
• Kamiya wants to learn more about engineering machinery herself now that she no longer has Mahina with her and obviously to make friends with someone who can teach her about flying spaceships.
• I would like Kamiya to learn how to integrate the two very different lives that she’s been living since middle-school
2 secrets:
• The secret she knows is that she’s Tort-Ace
• The secret she doesn’t know is that she has quite the video following and that her father actually knows about what she’s been doing all along and has been running interference with her mother
3 people:
• Parents: Akamu and Kamala Opinui
• Friend: Mahina Kahele
• Hostile: As Tort-Ace, she has a rivalry with another racer known as Turbo. Even though Kamiya views it as a friendly rivalry, there have been a couple of instances where Turbo’s actions have been less than friendly
3 quirks or mannerisms:
• Kamiya never goes anywhere without her Tort-Ace costume
• She is very prim and proper when first meeting people and it takes a little while before glimpses of her Tort-Ace personality comes through
• She names every vehicle she pilots
