Can we please RP finding Thyx, and also having Tim come back from the dead? That's too juicy to have just as backstory. If Tim doesn't mind missing the first little bit of gameplay, he can come back from the dead just as we get going?
I'm good with that.
I figure I need to be careful not to overlap with Kamiya. Shari - looks like you're aiming for Diplomacy?Any other areas to avoid, or conversely requests for things to consider?
Witchwarper still leaves a lot of flexibility.

Fabian Benavente |

@Angie: Kip's stats are checked and OK with the exception of his to hit with the knife. I think SF uses STR mod as a bonus so his to hit would be '-1'.
However, I am GM two different rule systems so please double check anything I say.
I don't think he would know Akitonian as a language since that is not his home planet.

Kamiya's mother had her aimed for Diplomacy :) She's good at it but that doesn't mean she's angling to be the 'face' of the group.

And hearing no objections or other ideas, here's the Sunrise Maiden Tier 1
She's also linked in the Campaign Info tab.
We can change the name once you all come up with one.

Happy for them to start sans, uh, my PC.
@Kamiya feel free to take it, just whether I should take it as well.
I sort of feel like he needs to be fairly human, despite that I usually like a lot more transhuman and alien in my sci-fi. Sort of a... Ford Prefect type character?
Am I wrong? A lot of the other concepts I posted could mix in well with this if I am.

SCENES
Angie wanted to RP some of your 'background'. Here are some potential scenes we could do:
a) Robert, Kamiya, and Tim's PC are in attendance to listen to an 'old exlporer' when Kip's old crew attempt to kidnap him. Kip turn sides and you all meet Cedona. Note that Thyx is not in the picture yet.
b) Robert, Kamiya, Tim's PC, and Kip are about to go on a supply run to somewhere when an android (Thyx) bumps into their starship just as they are about to set off.
c) After having lost their captain (Tim's PC) to some local thugs a couple of weeks ago, Robert, Kamiya, Kip, and Thyx are traveling on a supply run when their 'captain' steps out of the ship's lavatories.
Let me know your preference and I'll set something up.
FYI, scene c) could very well be the start of the game proper.

I'd skip the first one as well, as it'd kind of involve combat between PCs, and a ton of figuring out exactly why a former enemy would suddenly become an ally. B and C, I'm happy with - doesn't really matter if we are advancing a plot as long as we have a good scenario to write about - just recall all the silliness we did in Fabian's Eberron game between actual adventures ;^)

I think Thyx would skip the first scene because he's not involved in it and not because he doesn't like it.
That being said, maybe Angie can write that scene as a flashback on when Kip turned on his former crewmates. Or we could write it out if you wish.
None of these scenes are 'silliness'; they are the reason why I play these games. The adventure is really a backdrop/stage for your PCs to shine.
It goes without saying that there's no dice rolling necessary for these scenes.
I think I would like for scene c) to be the actual start of the game. I'll have Tim's PC appear while the group is traveling through the Drift. I'll set the stage for that scene, hopefully no later than this weekend and assuming someone will 'start' scene b).

RPing B, then starting C for gameplay works for me. I'll happily write something up for A, but not for a few days. My whole family has a bad head cold, and I can barely focus. Hopefully in the next few days I'll be ready to rock.
I'll fix Kip's weapons then too. Does she not get Dex bonus instead of Str since she's an operative?

Operative
An operative can use the trick attack class feature (see page 93)with a weapon that has this special property. Any character can
add her Dexterity modifier rather than her Strength modifier on
melee attack rolls with weapons with this special property.
The Akitonian language is spoken primarily by the inhabitants of the planet Akiton, and is among the most commonly known languages in the Pact Worlds.[1]
I figured she could have picked that up from a former crewmate or customer?

Yes, you are right about using DEX mod for damage for 'operative' weapons. But it's listed in the weapon 'operative' description (pg 181).
Akitonian could have also been a mother tongue then if her original family was from Akiton.

Screw it, this idea has been with me for days.
Red Mottled Jade.
A stelliferae refugee from Parin, whose planet was wrecked by the Azlanti.
Red Mottled Jade always wanted to see the stars, and now he can.
Likes heavier, humanoid, waterproof armor (considering getting the feat) to surround his water body. Considering upgrading to Power Armor later.
Rather than flood a cabin, or leave water everywhere, has a large "fishbowl" in the bridge and small transparent pipes all over the ship.
In this world he got shot (honestly, what are the chances a bullet passed through the part of his body he was using... low enough that it only happened in this world).

Tim... can I get you to reconsider his race?
That alien is a little too alien for my taste in PC. Witchwarper is already stretching my brain (alternate worlds, thank God no time traveling is involved).
Ideally make your PC from core races (legacy races maybe?) or some other race that is more or less 'humanoid'.

I can't open up your link but I already chatted with Tim and he's coming up with something a little more conventional.
You'll be going into a part of space you do not know and there will be plenty of weird aliens already.

Kamiya Opunui |

Option B
Kamiya strapped herself into the pilot's chair with a contented smile on her face. She quickly looked around to see if anyone was watching her. She observed that everyone else was busy with their own jobs to prep their ship...their ship!...for take off. Fairly certain no one was paying her any attention, she lovingly ran her hands over the controls. She still couldn't believe her luck. If only Mahina could see her now. She reached inside her collar and touched her Tort-Ace shirt.
She turned her attention to her pre-flight check and being satisfied that everything was in working order, she directed power to the thrusters. Just as they began to move, something entered her peripheral vision from outside the ship. Her eyes widened in surprise as something humanoid drifted into their path and ricocheted off the side of the ship. She immediately powered down the engines and screamed, "Captain! She was so surprised that she wasn't even sure if she had yelled out loud or telepathically.

Robert Magnusson |

"Captain! She was so surprised that she wasn't even sure if she had yelled out loud or telepathically.
Robert looked up in annoyance from his console, almost spilling coffee on his coveralls at the twinned shout that echoed both in his ears and in his mind. "Ok, headtails, what was worth me almost boiling myself?" he snarled, taking great care to balance his mug on top of his console - although not before taking a deep sip of the piping-hot, industrial-lubricant-thick nectar. He then followed the lashunta's gaze to the bridge's view ports, seeing what looked like a body floating outside.
"Salvage. Well spotted there - let's claim it before some other greedy bugger gets the same thought," he suggested. "Could be someone already cleaned them up before kicking them outta an airlock, but you never know what's left in their pockets. And if nothing else, it's more biomass for the food synthesizers."

OOC: And we started. Great!
Let's frame this a bit.
Date: 1 Erastus (July) 319 AG
Place: Absalom Station
One week after 'old explorer' was rescued, Kip turned on his old crew, and Cedona managed to get the 'paper's fixed for the ship.
Ship name:???
Did ownership stay with Kip or is the owenership shared among Robert, Kip, Kamiya, and Sigirijus (Tim's PC, vesk?)?
Is this the maiden voyage with the PCs?
Just some questions to start answering while you RP.

Okay, take two.
I noticed the handsome noble niche and melee specialist niche both seemed empty, but can move things around :)
Also - trying to steer away from Kamiya's diplomancery! Captains can use Intimidate as well, it seems.
Fabian: it makes sense to me for him to have and start in heavy armour, given he is supposed to have been a Vesk soldier. I got him the proficiency. I had him with the Spell Sergeant Archetype, which grants that prof at 2nd level. Is it okay to retrain that when he reaches 2nd level?
I am intrigued by the idea of a Heavy Armor Brick spellcaster. Is there anything I am missing with that?
Seriously considering pulling some points out of either Cha or Str for other atts, but do not want to let the team down.

Ooh...he's cool! Kip's going to like him - he'll remind her of Sara. Can she ride on his shoulder sometimes?
Can't imagine letting the team down by building a character you really like. You do you!
Just to be clear, Nine Lives is with us when we find Thyx, right? He's not dead/brought back yet? Then he'll die later, and Scene 3 will open with our next mission and him reappearing?
I'm excited for this team! Though Carmichael would have been cool....

Yes, this is correct. Although the current scene is only a week after Kip 'met' Robert, Kamiya, and Sigirijus so there's probably some trust issue that they are still working through.
Also, ownership of the starship (someone make a call or I'll roll dice) is also sure to color those initial interactions.

*Kip |

I like Accidental Necromancy for the ship, that's such a great name. I liked most of Corey's suggestions, but also especially Blackmoon Rising, and Silent Messenger.
Kip does NOT want the ship to be in her name. It can be in the other 4 equally as far as she is concerned.
***
Kip looked up from her station at Kip's cry. She just caught the image of legs and feet go tumbling past the screen, and she gasped.
"Salvage. Well spotted there - let's claim it before some other greedy bugger gets the same thought," he suggested. "Could be someone already cleaned them up before kicking them outta an airlock, but you never know what's left in their pockets. And if nothing else, it's more biomass for the food synthesizers."
Kip giggled. The bearded human was such a kidder. Still, they couldn't leave the poor bastard just tumbling around in space.
Leaping from her raised chair, Kip said to their new pilot, "If you can spin her a bit, I'll open the airlock and suck the body in."
Sprinting down the corridor, she called over her shoulder, "The back door!" though that should be obvious, since the body tumbled away to starboard.
Passing their quarters her room! her own room! Not shared with a snoring dwarf!, the heads, Captain's quarters still not sure about the captain, he was grumpier than Sara, but he had to be better than the last Captain, and the galley.
The main doors to engineering slid open with a soft whoosh, and she took a hard left to the airlock door, her bare paws finding traction on the textured metal floor. At the airlock door, Kip leapt onto one of the many stools that she stashed around the ship, and stood on tiptoe so she could see through the round window. Waiting, she brushed a whisker from her eye as her paw hovered over the external door button.
A moment passed, another....there! Slamming her paw on the button, Kip opened the door, and the body slid right in. Yelping in excitement, she shut the door, then ran the decontamination protocol. Probably no space bugs on the corpse, but she'd been trained since puphood that safety always came first.
When the gasses cleared away, she opened the inner door. Her white fur rippled in the draft as ship air filled the airlock. Paw creeping unconsciously towards her knife, she crept over to the body. Her black eyes widened in surprise. Pressing her com, she cried out, "Hey peeps! It ain't a corpse, it's a droid! Might still be operational!" She flipped it over, looking for the on switch.

Kamiya Opunui |

I'm partial to Blackmoon Rising for the official name of the ship. Kamiya would love her own ship but is happy to have everyone's name on it.
In honour of Kamiya naming the vehicles she pilots, she has given the ship the name Honu.
Kamiya easily maneuvered the ship in order to wrangle the floating corpse, or what they all assumed was a corpse, into the airlock. The pilot spoke to the ship but looked like she was muttering to herself as she moved her fingers over the controls, "That's it, Honu, easy does it. I steer and you move." When they got confirmation the body was on board, she ran her hand along the console, "You did it, Honu."
Her antennae twitched in surprise as Kip's voice flooded the comms saying that it wasn't a corpse that they just picked up. She looked at the Captain expectantly, "Do I park or do we continue with our supply run?"

Sigirijus "Nine Lives" Malumaje |

Okay, having thought about it, I think there are two "purchase lists" for ol' 9 lives.
A: Formian Plate (480), Grim Trophies (125), Voice Amplifier (125), misc equipment. Mining Jack (850) if Fabian okays going over on that versions budget.
B: Flight Suit (230), Voice Amplifier (125), Venom Spur (625), Datajack (20)
A is the original version. B is the version that went to the bathroom to read his Datapad news feed in peace and walked out into another dimension.
Given that's the case, I think he can take Memorable Coercer. Hopefully by the time he can buy better armor he'll have the heavy armor feat.
---
Personality wise I plan to have him as a Space Marine as played by (2000 era) Hugh Laurie. Big, booming, enthusiastic, hard, loyal and desperately in need of being steered by his companions.
---
This means using Intimidate over captain for inspiring the crew. It'd be good for there to be a reason for them not to just stab him in his sleep.
I'd like to play up the "duty", possibly in a feudal sense, that a commander has to his crew.
Ideally I'd like his death to be a heroic rearguard action so they can get to safety. Something that will tragically destroy all his equipment.
For the more mercantile members, this is a scion on the rise. Tag along now and you might be his 2IC when he's running a battlecruiser!
I figure everyone gets to be the Wooster to his Jeeves, or the Blackadder to his George, if they'd like.
---
Which means that for this part of the game, I guess he's in original incarnation.

Sigirijus "Nine Lives" Malumaje |

Sigirijus' stomped out of his room in full armor. Heavy ceramic boots slammed into the metal floor, the magnetic attachments clicking on and off with each jerking step. "This better be good!" he growled, on his way to Engineering.
in Engineering
Nine lives loomed over the droid, not to mention the tiny Ysoki.
"STOP!" he demanded of Kip. In a quieter voice he continued "Good moxie, Kip, but hold. Back on campaign they'd sometimes booby-trap a body, or a piece of equipment. Before you go flipping any switches on something that someone threw out let's get it checked. Unless you want to volunteer as a Shirren-trap-detector?"
In an amplified voice that Nine-Lives preferred to the comms anytime they weren't actually in vacuum he yelled "Magnusson! Get your kit and check this thing out" he paused for a second "Everyone make sure your suit is sealed. Don't want anyone passing out if we vent."
While he waited for Robert to arrive the Vesk anchored himself by the airlock, in easy access of the door override.

Thyx |

The form floated into the air-hatch and the outer doors closed with the sound of the warning alarm Wha-whaaa, wha-whaaa, wha-whaaa A yellow flashing light reminded people to stay clear. A soft blue contaminant scanner ran over the contours of the figure and when the artificial gravity cut in the body fell less than two feet but hard. A heavy sound could barely be heard in the thin atmosphere of the airlock.
The body of the android seemed frozen solid. Water started leaking out as the crystalline frost covering it from head to toe began to melt with the heat of the ship's interior. The faceplates were terribly faded like it had been circling a star close enough to bake off most of the artificial colour and the clothes, torso, arms and legs had been pelted by what must have been micro-meteors and other space dust.
Slowly, the left eye turned on - a little ring of white light. The android's vision started to reboot and he could see a blurred white silhouette looking down on him. 'Oh, I'm dead. This must be what dead is like ... why does everything hurt?' The white angel pulled away to the sounds of a warning voice. It was difficult to hear, like everyone was underwater, "... flipping any switches on something that someone threw out let's get it checked. Unless you want to volunteer as a Shirren-trap-detector?"
Once they took a closer look faded blast marks and laser holes from several different weapons could be seen under the other damage.
The other eye turned on then flickered out again. 'Heaven looks like a starship.' A sound could be heard coming from the mouth which had frozen open, "Zwert korm zzzzt???"
The left arm twitched.

Robert Magnusson |

In an amplified voice that Nine-Lives preferred to the comms anytime they weren't actually in vacuum he yelled "Magnusson! Get your kit and check this thing out" he paused for a second "Everyone make sure your suit is sealed. Don't want anyone passing out if we vent."
"Abyss! Dial it back down to 11, why won't ya!" Robert shouted back, feeling affronted by having his ears assaulted twice in such short order. "Anyway, a droid is better than a biological - I could take it apart for spares," the definite-not-technomage suggested as he sauntered towards the airlock, picking up a helmet and gloves to go with his skinsuit from a locker, nodding in satisfaction as a small green icon indicating a good environ seal appeared in his virtual vision as his processor implants interfaced with the suit's systems.
It was getting crowded in the small ship's airlock with an armored giant of a Vesk, the free-floating body and now one human add elbowing for space - well, the former and the latter. The middle one was too busy doing absolutely nothing except perhaps cracking gently as the warmth radiating from the ship's hull began thawing the ice accumulated all over its body. Robert maneuvered for some space, settled for locking his boots' mag seal on one wall so he could stand at right angles with Sirigijus.
"All right! Jackpot. Anyone wanna have the ship's entertainment suite upgraded? There's some good components in this one," Robert said, his shaved head gleaming inside his helmet in the airlock's reflected lights. He took out an engineering sensor from one of the innumerable pockets of the coveralls he wore over his skinsuit and frowned in annoyance.
"Damn. Got some power still going there. Lizard-brain, what say you keep it quiet and I'll just apply this here wrench smartly on this thing's temples quick-like and we forget all about what I just let slip in a moment of temporal insanity? Scowl once for yes?"
I'll assume we'll go with a "no" here...
"Figures," Robert grumbled, but slipped the heavy fine-tuning tool back to his belt hook.
The other eye turned on then flickered out again. 'Heaven looks like a starship.' A sound could be heard coming from the mouth which had frozen open, [b]"Zwert korm zzzzt???"
The left arm twitched.
"No korm here, Popsicle," the technomancer grunted, abandoning - for now - his hopes of dismantling their surprise guest and proceeded with his actual job, running the scanner over the android's body. "Just you keep your twitching to a minimum or my little friend here will rip off your arms and legs and you put them somewhere you really he shouldn't. With some force. Seen it happen. Sorta funny how the guy's eyes pop almost outta their sockets, but I just ate and I'd rather not lose my dinner if it's OK with you, right?"
He closed his eyes as his purely biological eyes interfered with the information his implants were feeding into his virtual vision. "Got a surprisingly steady power readings - 'haps the fellow went into a save mode when he realized there was no use trashing around in vacuum, with nothing to push against. Kept enough reserves to keep his memory from dumping, at least. Could be a while before motor control comes back, though. So you might as well part him with his weapons while the going is good, yeah? I read no implanted weapons, not the powered kind at least. Could be some arm blades but it'll take a while longer to search for purely passive systems. No significant bio readings - guess he spend enough time out there for the vacuum to sterilize him pretty nicely. No way to know if he'll go off the rails once he comes to, so in addition to taking his pointy stuff, how about wrapping some cargo straps over his arms and legs just in case he's gonna go nova on us."

Thyx |

The android was wearing a pair of sleek black combat boots, evergreen tactical pants and an old leather flight jacket with a worn shoulder patch bearing the initials GV. Under the clothes, which were torn in many places, was an old model second skin. In his right hand he held an auto-pistol by the barrel. In his left hand was a broken strap that was still attached at one end to a hunting rifle. A crimson carbon fibre tactical baton was stuffed in his belt.

Fabian Benavente |

*Kip |

"Zwert korm zzzzt???"
The left arm twitched.
Kip screeched as the android twitched to life. Leaping backwards in a single, four-legged jump, she ran to the Captain and scrambled up the huge vesk as if he were a tree. Peering over his left shoulder, she watched Beardo work.
No way to know if he'll go off the rails once he comes to, so in addition to taking his pointy stuff, how about wrapping some cargo straps over his arms and legs just in case he's gonna go nova on us."
Her heartrate back to normal, Kip sheepishly dropped down from the Captain, and scampered up to the starboard cargo hold for some straps. Returning, she secured the android firmly but gently; she didn't want to hurt him. Once it was tied up, she patted it down. Finding no knives, she took its baton and added it to the two guns that Robert had already laid to the side.
"Can we drag him out of the airlock now?" she asked. The Ysoki preferred to layers of protection between her and the vacuum of space.
tying Thyx up: 1d20 ⇒ 5 What kind of a role is this? Survival? I just did the d20, can add the bonus after.

Sigirijus "Nine Lives" Malumaje |

"No!" The captain shook his for emphasis head, rotating it sideways back and forth, rather than swaying as a human would. "Disarm it. Restrain it." He makes a slashing gesture with his arm "We're not monsters. We're not murderers. We're not pirates."
He looks to Robert. "Are we going to be able to question it?"

Robert Magnusson |

He looks to Robert. "Are we going to be able to question it?"
"Depends on how much of "it" is left to come back to the lands of coffee and fluorescent lighting," Robert replied, lamenting the fact he couldn't scratch his beard in thought while wearing a helmet. "Could be he's all there in the ol' central processor, or could be "Zwert korm" and angry stinging insect noises are the best you are gonna get," he rapped a knuckle against the android's head while keeping most of his attention on his virtual vision.
"Frankly, the fact he is making any sort of noises and motions suggests the rest might be recoverable. Could be he'll come to given a bit of time as his brain sorts things out. And if not, might be I could help," Robert shrugged. And if not, there were always the possibilities of the entertainment system upgrade to consider.
"Seems he's not endangering ship and crew by his very presence, though, so I'll second the rodent's opinion. Let's get him somewhere were there's more room to deal with his nonsense if it becomes an issue. Unless you want to kick him back outta the way he came?"

Thyx |

The android's right eye came on again. Things were getting sharper as several humanoid forms came into view. 'The big one, the loudest, What's his name?? No. Not coming to me. The beard is named ... no not that one either. What's my name? Zaff? ... no ... Hicks? ... close ... Thicks? Thyx??? Hmm, I can't seem to move. I'll just say hello ...'Just as the fuzzy white silhouette finished strapping him up a crack sounded from his jaw, which started moving slightly, "Oh ah oh my, terablisoery, pleasedontgetup ... !To#SNeeBEV'i!%NNNho!" A spark flashed in the back of its' throat and smoke trickled out. The eyes blinked a couple of times. 'Oh sorry ... that was, odd' The mouth gave out a modulated bleat, "Hhhhhellllllowwww" Underneath it all, millions of nanites started unfreezing and moving about Thyx insides to begin the herculean job of repairs.
