Delaying Mattaius.
The massive dinosaur completely ignores Tsuan's approach as Pai's lightning strikes it squarely in the side. Bellowing in pain and rage, it crashes forward and swings its club-like tail at the flying gnome...

@Jamir - Underfoot Assault usually only is an option if the opponent is adjacent to the mouser and misses on an attack against them. Do you have something that changes that?
Mattaius and Jamir instinctively duck as an arrow whizzes overhead to strike the dinosaur, expertly finding an open patch between the bony plates and eliciting another bellow of pain. Pai watches as behind the pillar, the three serpentfolk start to shimmer and waver as though they were underwater before the group scurries behind the pillar.

No. is the issue that the tail isn't part of its space?
Floria Avernathus |
Floria moves further into the room, and focuses on the Ankylosaurus. She tilts her head down slightly toward it and pushes mentally.
She's casting murderous command. DC 18 will save negates
If it fails its save:
Feeling the psychic command take root, she calls out to Pai and Tsuan "That one is ours for a second, let it spend itself against its ally before you take it down!"
GM Hawthwile |
The ankylosaurus has a 15 ft reach with its tail, so I don't think that would count as "part of its space" unfortunately.
Blue Will vs DC 18: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
The dinosaur turns towards its handler and snorts loudly. Be aware that this does not mean it considers the Pathfinders to be allies and is still very likely to make Attacks of Opportunity against them should the opportunity arise.

Given that Jamir could reach the dinosaur even moving at half-speed and that moving at full-speed would increase the Acrobatics DC by +10, I've moved Jamir back a few spaces.
Jamir darts forward, tiny blade tasting blood as he stabs at the dinosaur's ankle. Mythryndyr lodges another arrow in the spaces between the bony plates, but Mattaius's starknife bounces off before returning to his hand.
The serpentfolk steps back from Tsuan before hissing in the ninja's direction. Ssssslave flee when ssssssstill can! The words echo in Tsuan's mind, carrying with them a command that cannot be ignored even as the words themselves sound as if the speaker is unfamiliar with the language.
I don't know how a serpentfolk from this time period would know Common, but they do, so we're going to say that they picked up enough words from the Pathfinders talking to each other to be at least functional in the language.

Tsuan looks at Dark Floria and does a double-take. That is ... truly terrifying. I'm glad she's on my side.

Tsuan's flashing blades cut through one of the serpentfolk pair, and it bursts like a bubble. The remaining figure hisses at the ninja as it ducks her second swing, one hand clutching its side in an attempt to stop the bleeding from Floria's missiles.

Given the asynchronous nature of PbP and the fact that I'm rolling reactive saves for players, I am ignoring the requirement for rerolls and similar abilities of 'You must decide whether to do this before the results of the roll are revealed". Jamir clearly knows Floria very well, for while she is always embarrassed to show her dark side to new pathfinders, nothing can get in the way of a Taldan's love of etiquette, and having a fellow Taldan get her name wrong cannot go unaddressed.
She saunters over to him and overs her hand.
"I'm so sorry Master Montejay, please forgive my manners, I believe we were never properly introduced. My name is Floria Avernathus of the Yanmass Avernathus', and it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance"
She draws out the syllables of Floria, for while it simply wouldn't do to draw attention to the mistake, she wants to leave absolutely no doubt as to how its pronounced.

The Pathfinders join their fellows in heading upward from what seems to be a zoological garden to something akin to a jail. Claustrophobic cells line the walls, many crowded with three or four miserable-looking humans. The halls converge on a hewn-stone chamber lit with braziers and choked with herb-scented smoke. The creature is a slaugrak, a troglodyte influenced by the Abyss and warped into a savage creature desiring nothing but living flesh to feed upon. The creature has fiendishly-thick skin that only blessed weapons or those made from cold iron can penetrate easily, and it is immune to poison and acid (and resistant to cold, electricity, and fire). Adventurers who have survived encountering one of these creatures say that its bite is worse than anything else about it, teeth tearing hungrily at flesh while acid burns the wound and an Abyssal curse liquifies internal organs and boils blood.

Will, 1 star, Charmed Life: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 1 + 3 = 11
That's just ... wow.
"Blergh! These shadows ... urk!"
Jamir pulls a potion from his handy haversack and drinks it carefully, pausing between swallows to make sure the liquid stays where it belongs.
Cure moderate wounds: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (3, 2) + 3 = 8
Mattaius Ash |
At the mention of a demonic creature Mattaius pushes past the rest of the group and charges down the corridor. Raising his shield he calls out to Desna, "Desna, grant me your grace". The starknife at his hip bursts into brilliant white light.
Moveing 30 ft, activating Sacred Weapon (swift) to make the starknife Good and casting Divine Favour.
Lai Tsuan |
Tsuan draws an oil of align weapon and applies it to her favored wakizashi.
She steps forward and asks, "ты размаўляеш па-пякельнаму?"
Pai Shecks |
@GM Hawthwile: Are the ceiling heights the same as in the last area?
"Well, you know I gotta test it myself!" Pai won't believe the thingy at the end of the hall's immune to her strikes until she sees it with her own eyes. She scoots around the corner and takes aim.
Electric blast vs. Touch AC: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 7 + 2 = 233d6 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (6, 6, 1) + 2 + 4 = 19
Spell Resistance: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Includes Elemental Overflow
Floria Avernathus |
Floria translates the abyssal for anyone who doesn't know it.
"It thinks we are slaves and tells us to get back to our pens or be eaten. How unspeakably vile of it"
She moves to within range for her psychic magic and attempts to befuddle it. It's only as she is completing the marshalling of thoughts and emotions that she realises she's moved to be closest to it.
She's casting Id Insinuation II on it. DC 20 will save or be confused. It would roll twice and take Floria's favourite on the first round if it failed.
Caster level vs. SR: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 2 = 25
Floria's preferred actions:
1 - Deal damage to self
2 - Do nothing
3 - Attack nearest creature
4 - Act normally
GM Hawthwile |
@Pai - Ceiling is 10 ft high in hallway/small chamber, 15 ft high in large chamber (where Red is).
Red Will vs DC 20: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Confused: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6
Pai's lightning bolt strikes the slaugrak squarely in the chest, but it merely winces as most of the shock dissipates through its thick skin. Its deep chuckle trails off suddenly as Floria's spell takes hold of its simple mind.
Red does nothing this round, but we still need to hear from Mythryndyr before everyone else can act again. I'll delay him if we haven't heard from him later tonight.

GM Hawthwile |
Mythryndyr's arrow plinks harmlessly off the slaugrak's thick hide, but the creature locks its confused gaze on the archer.
Red Acrobatics: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
It hurtles down the hallway towards the Pathfinders, then leaps with its massive legs right over Floria and Mattaius to land right in front of Mythryndyr!
@Mattaius, this provokes an AoO from you. @Floria, if you are holding a melee weapon this would provoke from you as well.
An incredulous hiss startles Floria, who turns around to see two smaller creatures peering around corner of a smaller hallway at the slaugrak. As they see her seeing them, they snarl and race towards the noblewoman, clawing wildly at her...

Almost scoring a grievous wound, but the terrible stench causes him to re-coil and ruin the strike. Turning to one of the smaller creatures harrying Floria, he slashes out at it.
