King in Thorns slideshow!

Welcome all to Pathfinder Second Edition's scenario 1-10 Tarnbreaker's Trail.
I named this thread Grehunde's Gorget's Gauntlet to not get it confused with another I am running, but it is the The Tarnbreaker's Trail.

I am as always in a learning process, so forgive your GM for the blunders I will be making but don't you dare make a single mistake yourselves!
I hope it will be a fun run for us all.

Hereunder is what I will need from all of you.

Please take time to discuss and ask about what you don't understand or do not have yet, and, as much as you can, try and only post this when you have it all (so I have your info' in one place).

Welcome Elsha!

Yes, cool about sharing the formulae.

May I ask what you are Crafting?
And are you Field Commissioned?
(you are up to speed on the Crafting rules for PFS, re. 4 days prep' time, DCs etc.?)
And, if you are Crafting Alchemical items, do you have an Alchemist's LAB (not Tools)? So you can "cheat" the PFS rules a bit.

Yes, same as last time. Earn Income means make some check and see if you gain money for it. I'm not entirely clear on how the GM picks the "secret DC" it describes, but it appears I didn't make it last time.

For PFS training, I'm keeping the same options as last time. My advanced alchemy options (what I prepared with reagent batches) is on his character profile. It should be pretty clear.

King in Thorns slideshow!

Welcome to Irth and the Mad Hopper.

The DC is not secret in PFS.
The normal task is your level -2, so level 0 until you get to level 3.
The DC for a task of level 0 is 14.

Sorry, I am so much into Crafting right now I thought you were using Crafting to Craft!

Tell me if you wish to do that.

In the avatar bar, I added the link to GoogleDocs, naming it as Grehunde's Gauntlet.
It is the same link as the one up above on top left.

Can you all go to slide 2 and put your minis up (in marching order).

Then put your names down in the three spoilers below, with your normal Init' (Stealth or Perception or whatever) ; your Perception bonus ; your Stealth bonus.

And put your normal Exploration Activity down beside the Init'.

Here is some info' on that .

With regards to Hopper I will do small shufling on him (Thievery trained -> Deception trained, and rough rider feat to burn it feat).

btw. I need to read again on Crafting as I see no reason to craft items during downtime. Which means that I probably missed something :)

Sorry, Stabby: yes, 1 mandatory check per person per day.
For the trials that are now coming up, you have to have one person attempt them.
But you can have all attempt-- to gain glory (and extra points).
As for Irth, I will see if he returns in the next couple of days or remove him and recalculate the CPs etc. since it will be 1 week w/o posting and he has not done the 1st encounter yet (will check the PFS Guide re. the rules).

King in Thorns slideshow!

So, I have removed Irth from the game.

I wrote him, saying I hoped he was just not interested and not ill or something bad.
And that removing him was only because having a non active PC impacts the other players while not taking part.

Thus we have:

lsha - level 1 - Alchemist - 2 Challenge Points (CPs)
Granitt - level 1 - Champion - 2 CPs
Farol - level 1 - Alchemist - 2 CPs
Stabby Staberson- level 1 - Rogue - 2 CPs

8 CPs so lower tier and NO adjustement.

I went back and checked and this changes nothing you have done in the race so far.

So, trek on!

King in Thorns slideshow!

It is possible that you can spot a sabotage before you encounter it.

A PC who wants to check for signs of sabotage can attempt a Perception check.

Even if you are wary during the day, while you trek, mechanically, this check will be done after the day, before the Trials.
Just tell me then, after the day's walk, before the Trial (I'll slip it in before you do your Trial roll or whatever).

During the day you do not interact w. the teams, since you are all hiking along.
But can do so in the evenings. Before or after the trial you can see who is there etc..

GM I have a climbing kit. i dont know if you would allow me to use it on that tree, but would have lowered the DC and we might have gotten it.

King in Thorns slideshow!

That would have been fine to use.
The thing is that if you do not have the time or desire (which is perfectly fine, not a recrimination of any sort, seriously) to log in once a day in general, things move on.
Which is a bit of an issue when it impacts other people.

With regards to climbing gear, we have a common one (part of our team) and in my post I did indicate roughly using it:

https://paizo.com/campaigns/v5748p75ivl3z/gameplay&page=3#112

But my understanding was that it does not help much (instead of falling on your face, you can do a flat check and dangle on the rope). I assumed that if you fail the test, the egg falls down, and climbing gear does not help you with that.

King in Thorns slideshow!

If memory serves, the kit helps you move a bit faster (50% faster?) maybe in certain conditions only (?) - the big bonus is that it helps a LOT if you crit' fail.

But, yes, it would to not fall-- and you still crit' fail, so I would say you lose the trial anyhow.

A quick question related to Pathfinder 2e rules.

I was under the impression that when someone is flat-footed he does not get an attack of opportunity? Is it some halucination that I have related to high consumption of a mutagen? Asking for a friend, he got mauled by the bear.

If so, does it mean that the bear could have swung at Hopper who was 2 squares away and tossed his bomb (the bear has the reach)?

There is nothing in AoO that says anything about being Flat-footed or prone. The 1e rule obviously didn´t make it across as far as I can see, but our GM knows better than I do.

I also read in the forums that Champion is not a good class to take, because the best tactic is to let the enemy come to you, not advance on the monster. A champion by nature is going to advance on the enemy, hence not a great class.

King in Thorns slideshow!

Flat Footed "only" reduces your AC by 2.
That is all it does.
It also means that you have the Flat Footed condition that can trigger things done to you (Stabby gets extra damage vs. Flat Footed for example).

If so, does it mean that the bear could have swung at Hopper who was 2 squares away and tossed his bomb (the bear has the reach)?
Yes. He probably would have since you went first. I imagine I didn't/forgot that because I was not sure where/how close Hopper after the moves that were done before.

King in Thorns slideshow!

re. Champions: that is only vs. Fighters until lvl 6 since only Fighters get AoO before lvl 6.
You have reach Champions (Paladins can add 5 foot to a Reach weapon and use their Reaction @15 ft I think, or use a Bow) and the Reaction that reduces damage + Lay On Hands is quite powerful.
I think both are powerful classes, but w. different tactics.

King in Thorns slideshow!

I did not even think of Granitt being a Champion--
--why did you not use your reaction last turn? To not attract the Bear's attention?
That would have reduced the damage to Elsha by 3 and let you Strike the bear (which you can do even unarmed, unarmed strikes can be head butts etc.).
Did you miss any others before that? (or were you out of it already, right?)

Anyhow, I will be an evil GM and retcon bot' Granitt:
• since, if you used Lay on Hands the round before when you were not acting/delaying that heals you by 6 (so you remain standing now, at least)
• and if you use your reaction just before (you get it back now since you acted) we reduce 3 dam' to Elsha (might change things later?) and you get to add this attack:
Botting the Reaction: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 241d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
I hope it is okay ((( Do not like to do this, but it might help (and cannot hurt, if you do not use your Focus Point there, you go down, so it it is probably wasted anyhow).

Still think like a 1e player ... where I rarely if ever used unarmed ... I was thinking if I used the lay on hands, that would have attracted the bears attention to being alive, so if I was the bear I´d attack again and have dinner ready.

And the reaction I thought I would need a shield or weapon ready to be able to do that, as opposed to be lying on the floor unarmed. It doesn´t make a lot of sense being able to do that from that position.

Anyway, 2e is a different game from 1e.... and I´m still learning ... I don´t think reactions work well in pbp ... or at least I don´t really get them too well, nice and simple in 1e with AoOs... not a whole different bunch of stuff, unless it was a spell.

but heyho ....

King in Thorns slideshow!

Lying on the ground not moving is a good idea (even if we do not get into Perform rolls to fake being out cold etc.)-- but in this case, if you do no heal yourself you go down so at least let you heal just before. You did a good move to not attract the bear, but let's use the healing.

In PF2 there are a lot less AoOs, and less Reactions too.
Unarmed works well in PF2, people always threaten (even with hands full - just kick or head butt or whatever).
Non-lethal is a thing only for the last HP dealt (and vs. ones that are immune to non lethal of course).
So worth using.

The Champion's reaction is Divine Intervention, you do not even need to strike or anything for it to work.
So, as long as you are conscious, you can have your Deity work for you.
