Doh... yep, rolling would be a good thing. Oh, and can I actually be IN one of the carts so I can have a little height (i.e. see out a bit further -- cause being short sucks). I'm not sure which cart would be more centrally located in relationship to the party but I'd like to be in range of the majority of the guys so that I can buff them if/when we go into combat -- not sure which cart that would be so I'm leaving that up to GM discretion. Seeing as you are a halfling and the same "size" as a goblin, I can see you riding in one of the carts. I moved you to a cart, which is one square to your 9 o'clock. The only allie you can not see is Dran

The next day of travel as the caravan approaches the bridge site, a distant howl can be heard to the south. A pack of wolves appear from behind a line of boulders. AS you look closely at these wolves, smoke can be seen coming from their jaws. Lryic, the closest wolf is 55 feet to you 6 o'clock. There is a total of five wolves.

Lyric casts Inspire Courage It's a 60' emanation. "You inspire your allies with words or tunes of encouragement. You and all allies in the area gain a +1 status bonus to attack rolls, damage rolls, and saves against fear effects." I believe everyone is within the 60ft range at this point... If not, Lyric will jump down from the cart and move into a position that will put as many people within the buff as possible. Lyric then casts Shield on herself and braces for impact. "They're coming in fast! Get Ready!

Lyric, you emanation gets everyone.

Each of the wolves approach a different wagon and began tearing away at it, completely ignoring the PCs. There jaws tear into the canvas and the super heated maws ignite the materials.

All PC's may act.

All four wagons have been ignited. A PC who is adjacent to a wagon can spend 1 action and attempt a Reflex save to Interact with the wagon to put out a fire using blankets, water, or some other appropriate tool.

Lyric: I moved your mini, you are now adjacent to Gruvok and the rear wagon (#4). There's a teal wolf 20 feet away across the wagon from you. There's a yellow wolf 25 feet away, across from the wagon(#3) that you started on. Orin/Dranald/Green Wolf are about 30 feet away towards the front of the caravan, while the rest of the group (Istvan/Dran'Thul/Red Wolf/Black wolf are another 15 feet forward beyond them and on the far side of the caravan from you.

I just realized I forgot to factor in Inspire Courage, so my to-hit is 16, not 15. It might just make the difference?

Gruvok fails to extinguish the third wagon. He moves swiftly within the caravan an extinguishes the flames on the fourth.

The cleric swings his sword around and delivers a slash to the wolf.

Dran kicks sand up on the fire and smolders the flames on the second wagon. He moves onto the wolf nearest him, but can not find purchase.

Istvan moves adjacent to Dran and delivers a punch to the wolf.

Lyric manages to extinguish the flames on his wagon and hops off and runs to Gruvok.

Green turns on Dranald. It chomps at his knee and drops him to the ground. The wolf goes for the kill and bites again. Dranald manages to roll out of the way in time. Dranald takes 7 damage and 1 fire damage

Istvan catches the attention of red and attacks. The monk fends off the assault with his shield.

The black, yellow and teal wolves continue to shred the wagons.

Lyric continues her inspiration while trying to beat out the flames. The fire roars back and continues to destroy the canvas materials.

The black wolf, most likely suffering from a broken rib now, decides to cut and run.

The yellow wolf looks over at its wounded pack mate and moves to attack Istvan. The wolfs takes out his leg and knocks him down. 4 damage from the bite plus 1 fire damage

The teal wolf notices Dranald peaking around the corner of the wagon and goes to "investigate". It attempts to bite the cleric twice. Dranald holds the wolf at bay.

The flames on the wagons 3 & 4 grow longer.

Out of Initiative

After going over the wagons, you notice that they are damaged, but the contents inside are fine. The goblins, which were hiding during the combat, begin to come out.

They praise the PC's for their battle prowess and thank them for defending the caravan. Even Muckmuck joins in on the celebrations.

While the goblins are getting settled back in, the PC's locate a hidden smuggler's cache. It contains bolas, a khopesh and a fighting fan. Three treasure bundles

Once back on the trail, it takes a few more hours to reach the bridge camp. When the PCs arrive at the camp, they find it bustling with activity. Goblin engineers do their best to guide goblin workers as they build the decking and assemble the piers; the bridge appears simple, but sturdy, and is approximately half complete by this point.

As the wagons are unloaded, Muckmuck shows the PCs to Zig, leader of the bridge camp.

While many of the goblins at the work camp are covered in dirt and sweat, Zig stands tall and straight among them. He pours over maps of the surrounding area before speaking.

“It is good to see you. They call me Zig. I’m glad my father asked you to come here to help.

“We have been building a very important bridge. But every night, the big cats attack our camp. We leave out meat for them and they saunter right past it. Instead, they seem bent on filling their bellies with goblin flesh. If we move camp across the river; they cross over it overnight. If we light fires around the camp to scare them away, the goblins workers burn themselves in the flames. It’s a lose-lose situation.

“Every few nights, the cats come back to hunt us. Everyone is terrified and that’s bad for business. With all this talk of some
saber-toothed whatever coming for us in the night, we’re all too scared to finish our work. If someone doesn’t take these furballs out, I suspect the bridge isn’t ever gonna get built.

“These kitties aren’t natural. Whatever you need, you got it. I can give you workers to build fences. But fences alone aren’t going to be enough. Either the cats go, or this bridge is history. The only other answer is death.”

It is late afternoon by the time you all arrive in the camp. The sun is starting to set. You do have a few hours of night fall. What would you all like to do?

No some damage was taken. I usually leave it on the players to track their own damage. i'll go back and tally it up for you all thought.

I'd missed the post where I got damaged but see it now. Did we have opportunity to treat our wounds before resuming the journey?

"And are the cats as unnatural as the wolves we faced? Do they smoke from the mouth?"

"They do seem smarter than normal cats, but do not know nothing about seeing smoke from their mouths. Zig answers scratching his chin.
