New World Test Drive

Game Master EltonJ

Test driving a new world, things you do will affect the playtest on roll20 and vice versa.

Checking for those interested in test driving a new world. You will be table 2, table 1 is ran on roll20.net sundays. I'm looking for Mature players willing to handle a test drive of my material.

I don't have a map yet, but I could write a whole primer. The only problem is finding artists to do the graphic design/Heraldry.

The world is available here. The rules to be playtested are the race rules.

Oh, I added kitsune as a race a while ago, so you can play kitsune. This is just a test drive, to see where I can improve the race rules.

I'll throw my hat in the ring here if you'll have me.

Important Question: What kind of power level are you looking at? I can munchkin a flavorful character if you want to stress test the system. I can also build a reasonably powered character as well. Or even low powered...up to you.

This is basically testing the race rules. Generally, all of them should be balanced. So fifth level is appropriate to start.

Undead Bones Oracle?

Eh -- Why not?

PbP? Or another roll20 game? I‘d love to go with some sort of melee character.

Play by post, I'm afraid. Melee? Awesome!

PbP is all I can do, so that’s perfect! You said you wanted to test the races? Are we locked to kitsune? Or were there other races you’re testing? Wasn’t really sure what you’re looking for.

So I've had a read of the rules and I'm interested - the rules seem simple and thorough enough, I have a few concept ideas already.

I would like to ask before just making a few characters, will you allow archetypes? Or will they be case-by-case?

Testing of all races that have rules. Kitsune, Wolven, Orcs, Undead, Dragonborn. We're testing all of them to see if they are balanced. Then after the results are in, I'll balance the races a little more.

I'll allow archetypes, to be sure. Psychonauts, Vivisectionists, Flying Blades, Wild Hunters, its all good as long as I get to examine the archetype and what it will be able to do.

A barbarian at level 5 would be able to Rage for Con modifier +12 rounds per day. What about an orc without barbarian levels?

They would be able to rage for a number of times a day equal to their Constitution modifier (minimum 1 per day).

Do you need a fully completed character sheet for the application? Or just basic info and some background until selection? And when is the recruitment over?

It's over in two weeks. Just some basic info and background please.

Sounds good! Keeping it super short and sweet:

Name: Vargos
Race: Undead
Class: Unchained Monk (Scaled Fist)
Background: Hailing from Margavia, Vargos was raised by a sect of monks whose original founders claimed to have been trained by draconic masters. Sent to travel the wider world as part of his training, Vargos found very little to like beyond the walls of his monastery. He keeps mostly to himself, though of late the wandering monk seems to have found traveling companions that he enjoys being around, and their adventures have led him to Bretonia.

Sounds good!

Going to throw my hat in the ring too, if that's alright. Thinking of going with a bloodrager dragonborn that likes claws.

Looks pretty mean. Plus the spells and all that.

TerrorOfDeath here with Unguis a Dragonborn coming from Dragonia who seeks to be known outside of his tribe and the shadow of it's Wisdom, his sister.

Is his sister an only sister?

Tbh I didn't think that fair ahead so I'll just go with a hard no, he has other siblings, with him being the only male. How many however is not decided.

Neat.

Well if coinshot is going to submit an undead, I'll look into something else. No worries, I didn't have a character in mind, just a basic build.

That's fine. Coinshot submitted a good undead character.

I'm thinking of rocking a Hunter (Feral Hunter maybe) Wolven.

Alrighty. Sounds good to me.

You want to stress-test your race rules? To my eye, the obvious corner case is the undead character with Cha as a non-dump stat. So some character building Q's about the undead:

1) Do the undead reproduce , or are they all humans/elves/whatevers that have been re-animated? (& If so, how?)
2) Is everyone else freaked by them? Do the Christians hold auto-da-fe's for example...
3) How long ago did this bulk transformation into undead happen? How long ago did the re-awakening of the undead happen?
4) Is the lichs' empire still around, or is it just Margravia (and her vampire queen)?

A1. The undead cannot procreate. They are mostly humans and elves that have been re-animated by the Lich Queen's magic.

A2. Everyone is freaked out by them.

A3. 10 to 20 years ago. The re-awakening of the Undead happened 5 years ago. And it's still happening, although the magic that allowed for sentience/sapience is waning.

A4. Yes, it's still around, it doesn't include Margavia though. Margavia is ruled by a Vampire queen. There are more undead than alive in Margavia. The living is frightened by the Undead.

A Wolven Shaman sounds fun to me

Grand Lodge

Scratch that an Orc Warpriest

Grand Lodge

Name: Draxia Thul
Race:Orc
Class:Warpriest
Background: An older Orc, steeped in the tradition of her people was brought up being taught to respect the old gods and not the ones of man. Draxia learned to form the old stories and writings the ways of the Blessed Mother. The Mothers's spirit protection the people and especially the young so that the tribe may survive. Thus Draxia began to pray and worship the Blessed Mother. With her, she sought out any conflict to prove her might and protect her people. With her mount the wolf Olkan seeking to convert and enhance the strength of the Blessed Mother. Recently Draxia has left her home as the Blessed Mother seeks to weaken the influence of the Bretonia to her people

Gotcha.

Well, anyone else?

Can he use the human sorcerer FCB?

Background: A merchant in Margavia before the conquest, he got his wife and 3 children onto one of his ships, safely off to Brettonia. He himself, though it was foolish, stayed too long, trying to protect his business. The Lich's navy closed the port; Jonathan was part of the slaughter when *** (the city) fell. That was 17 years ago. Four year ago, a skeletal warrior serving the lich regained sentience... Now he is a citizen of Margavia. He does not know what happened to his wife and children, only that his ship did not make port in Brettonia... Some combination of despair and his undead state have opened a doorway in his ?soul?, unleashing his sorcerous abilities. He searches the world for his lost kin, feeling responsible for not protecting them

Critzible, if you'd prefer to play a wolven instead, I can rock an orc. I offer not out of my own preference, but seeing as you were looking at a wolven shaman before the orc.

Yes.

I would love a Wolven Shaman

Okay, any more before I lay this out tomorrow?

Grand Lodge

I haven been looking at it and just like the idea of a Wolven Shaman

Critzible wrote:

It's a good idea, the wolven are certainly taken care of by their shamans. So, why not play one?

Grand Lodge

Right

So, does anyone want to see this laid out?

I'd love to play my undead monk!

Coinshot wrote:

Sounds neat, doesn't it? Playing an undead monk. I'm waiting on two more submissions it seems.

I nearly have the document professionally laid out.
