So, a little bit about me and how I roll.
My RL name is James Frost. I’m an author and marketing professional living in Portland, Oregon U.S.A. I still own a copy of the 1st Edition Fiend Folio and Deities & Demigods from when I was 12, although I mostly just stared at those books and wondered how the heck all this worked.
Since then, I’ve played here and there in homebrew groups (including one run by the son of the founder of Dragon Magazine), but really didn’t do any organized play until I randomly ran into 5-star venture coordinator Auke Teeninga here in Pathfinder PbP. Embarrassingly, I’ve never actually played or GMed organized PFS anywhere but my laptop.
I like to post twice a day, once in my morning (Pacific Coast time), and once in my evening. Do the same, in between my posts, and we’ll have a well-paced campaign.
I think we have a lot of experience at this table, so I won’t go into much else. I’ve got some quirks, but you’ll pick them up. Try to keep rules discussions in the Discussions forums, and entertain us with good roleplay and action description inside Gameplay. Don’t be afraid to point out mistakes made by other players; we all want to learn and improve. I don’t like to reverse engineer encounters when I make mistakes, but I will if there’s a significant negative impact for a player.
Oh, and since half the party are bards, I’ll expect some good campfire tunes.
Finally, please let us know if something’s going on and you’re going to miss posting for a while. Better yet, create a Bot Me file so that we can run your character while you’re gone.
(I think I ran off to Alaska once and abandoned PbP, and Auke sent me frantic notes thinking I’d been eaten by real-life bears. Don’t do that.)
The chronicle book for Tome of Righteous Repose is an absolute monstrosity, so this is going to take me a while to set up. I’m shooting to start late on Monday, October 21, but I’ll let you know if I miss my own deadline.
We’ll be using Google slides cuz Roll20 got hacked and now my identity is owned by Sudanese pirates.
Good luck conquering the infamous Tome,
JBF
P.S. Feel free to add your own “About Me” here. Life is short and good nerd friends are hard to come by.
P.P.S. I've got RL friends visiting this weekend, so I probably won't pop back on here until Monday

About me
I'm Florent, I was for a time the VL then VC for Paris, France before moving to Chicago.
I've discovered RPG with the board game HeroQuest by MB in the early 90' and improved my knowledge in College/University (playing a lot of different systems and games, none of them DnD).
I'm a rule nerd (thanks to the many questions my players asked me when I was a newbie GM) of PF1 and I got my 5th stars with the author of one of my most beloved PFS Scenario (Thanks Vanessa!).
Even if I'm a rule nerd, my first rule as a player is, the GM is always right even when not.
I like to role-play and I like to build character not just numbers on my character sheet.
I try to post a least once per day and when I have time I could do more.

Well met, Nemrok.

Hey all,
IRL Name is John - was a VA for about a month in the Boston area before realizing that my wife was going to kill me if I tried to keep it up. Started playing with D&D 3.0 back in middle school but descended back into the old Red Box, and have some roots in Call of Cthulhu as well.
Now-a-days, I'm a 3-star PFS1 GM, 3-Nova SFS GM, and run the Starfinder Facts twitter account making goofy Starfinder content.
I'd jump in to run, but I'm starting a new job hopefully this week and have (by my count) 6 freelance assignments to crank out in the immediate future, two of which are due in the next 10 days, so I don't think I can GM a beast like the infamous Tome.

]b\About me:[/b] Cool. A bit of player info. My name is Michael IRL. I am a 50-something software developer for the health system. I also spent 10 years as a developer for Lockheed Martin supporting satellite systems. Like James I got into RPGs early in life back in '76 (or was it '75?) soon after the original D&D came out. We sure had a blast and every time I see a group of teens playing the game in movies it brings me back. Even if they get the details wrong, which they usually do.
Having a family it is nice to be able to get my fix on-line with this community and I love the opportunity to fill out the personality of our characters this forum provides. The real life session almost always focuses on the plot more than than character development, at least with the groups I play with.
As for GMing, not right away, but I did pick up the module Gallows of Madness I am eventually going to run once I get up the nerve and collect all the images I'll be needing. That will take a while. Obviously not for the current batch of characters since it is for levels 1-2.

Cut and paste error. That should be level 4

![]() |

No worries! As long as they aren't higher than 4th level, we should still be able to play low tier :-)
It looks like Jack actualy leveled up to 5, so I think we need a level 3 to play lower tier. I posted in Flaxseed this morning, so we should get applicants soon.

Well, the link worked, so no idea why it wasn't working before *shrug*
And away!!

I'm not sure if the links to individual pages work (like the one I created to go straight to Besnik's picture.) So I'm guessing that's what happened...but who knows :)
And away!!!
Indeed!

Auke, I know you're busy this weekend. Post your icon, perc/init stats, and chronicle sheet information when you can.
Everyone, this is the last chance to make between adventure purchases. Please post them here so I can mark them on your chronicle sheets at the end of the chronicle.
The marching order slide is now up as well.

Hmmm. Cloudia has 4 gp to her name. That means that she will NOT be purchasing gear.

![]() |

I'll be missing my morning post tomorrow. I've got a phone interview for a job I REALLY want, and need to be focused on ABM instead of AC and HP and CMB.
Good luck!

![]() |

oh, oh, I can answer that. Mostly because I asked him the same thing in the game I just ran. It means he can add his strength bonus to the damage. You have to pay 100 gp extra for each +1.

![]() |

The main thing is the +4 damage increase (and -2 to hit) due to Deadly Aim, which is so obvious to always use Jack doesn't even mention it (although he should ;-P ).

![]() |

*shrugs*
For any PC of mine that has Power Attack or Deadly Aim, it is 'hard baked' into their combat algorithms - I usually have to specify when it *isn't* turned on.
Technically, if we want to take it to ad absurdum, we should probably provide a full break down of our combat modifiers (BAB + relevant ability modifier + magical weapon + any buffs), but I don't usually see anyone do that, either ;-)

I did figure that one out, but I still don't see the "mighty" quality in the Core rulebook, and it's super unbalanced at 100gp a pop. The Agile quality costs 4000gp for a similar effect on melee weapons, and that's not Core legal. Unless there's a reference from the CRB, the PFS rules, or a boon/chronicle sheet I don't feel like I should allow it...but you're the VRC in the room, so LMK if I'm missing something.

Not necessary at all. I usually assume the players have baked in their BAB + ability modifier + magic weapon. I like to see the buffs added just because I'm learning the GM ropes and they're so often forgotten about. (By both players and GMs.) It's certainly not a requirement. Seebonickk's approach is fine, I just missed a couple of potential modifiers that would have turned his miss into a hit.
Also, Uldar's going to get on me for anything I miss, and then I have to decide whether to retro things, which always makes my head spin.

It's here. The bonus is not called 'mighty' in the rules - it is just part of what a composite bow is all about - which is why it is so dang confusing. The terminology is used by some because of D&D origins. See this explanation. I think Jack just uses it to confuse poor GMs like you and me.
Oh! So the "mighty" is just the composite bonus? WTF? But why are we calling it both composite AND mighty? *New GM reads through all the bonuses, adds up +1 bow + +2 composite + +4 deadly aim...bangs head against wall...*

Uldar Uldeth wrote:Totally fine if the party wants to alter its standard operating procedure to sweeping through the dungeon quickly, although that will likely have some negative repercussions, and you won't get perception checks. I'll let the party talk it through. There's a vast time difference between a 4-minute buff, though, and a 1-hour light or mage armor effect. Also know that in general I'm making decisions that are favorable to the party, even if it seems like I'm not :)To be honest, if Nemok's research was taking minutes, we'd probably have objected (or moved on without him), as we have quite a few buffs running.

I mainly think that letting Cloudia's 2nd level buff (her highest level spell of which she only has 4, so now 3) run out after she explicitly asked the party to press on by one character's decision to investigate is a bit harsh.

![]() |

It's not like she is asking that we never investigate the room, just that it be delayed for 4 minutes! And standard operating procedures can always be broken if a player says they want to take an action counter to it (which Cloudia did).
