Hello one and all!
Spikey Berry Piercer |
Hello! Hi there, Torsten. Imagine seeing you here. Can't say I'm surprised to see you playing some sort of dwarf. You sure love them! And duergar are freaking awesome, like all dwarves.
Hello as well to Serisa. Let's hope Torsten talks more as a Duergar than a Draugr. ;)
Hello to Jazrok and Drakhn too! Looking forward to fighting fiercely alongside you and getting to know you!
GM: Thanks for the nod! Could I trouble you to open gameplay so I can dot and delete? That makes is so much easier for me to respond rapidly to updates. Thanks!
Torsten Runeforger |
Ha! Yeah, dwarves are my thing. The hobbit was my bed time story as a small child. And later when reading lord of the rings, I learned about the Jewish Influence they had due to Tolkien. It really resonated with me. Just can’t shake that feeling of, attachment, I guess. Anyways, chances are I’ll play some sort of dwarf if given the chance. :)
Also glad to see you here, caster! This group just got a whole lot better.
Spikey Berry Piercer |
Thanks, GM!
Makes sense, Torsten! The Hobbit is a fantastic gateway drug. Does the Jewish influence appeal to you for personal reasons or do you just like the flavor?
Hey thanks for the compliment! This'll be fun!
Torsten Runeforger |
Personal reasons. Jewish family, but had problems connecting to my roots. The hobbit’s themes of yearning for Zion and feeling like a stranger helped me connect. I’ll always be grateful to Tolkien for his work. Though I do hasten to say that while that background is there, I don’t insert any of that into my gameplay.

Leaving that aside, I like our party composition.
A leshy barbarian. I can think of a few ways that it can grow into a terror, and with your system mastery I’m sure you can think of a few more.
A hobgoblin Skald. As someone who needs Con, and doesn’t have enough, I am *very* happy to see this.
An Oread Warpriest. A close combat Brawler and our only source of healing.
And finally a kobold bloodrager. Which simply put, wins the cool points.
Jazrok |
Well if I'm gonna be on the list of poor sods to die in the arena, I could think of much worse company for it. This'll be an interesting one. I'm sure we'll delight, but I have a good feeling we'll surprise with ferocity as well. Pleasure to be here.
Jazrok |

Happy to oblige. You bring the righteous indignation, I'll provide the constructive outlet.
An Oread Warpriest. A close combat Brawler and our only source of healing.
Hey if you're not looking to me to pick your bleeding carcass off the sand, that's great. But for the record, I can. For the record.
And finally a kobold bloodrager. Which simply put, wins the cool points.
No disagreements here.

Gods help us all :D
Thank you for the pick GM-type person!
I'll get my sheet all spiffed up and status lines tonight.

Torsten: That's cool that the Hobbit and TTRPGs helped you connect to that part of your family's history. Super cool.
Thanks for the vote of confidence. I'm always open to suggestions if there are good ideas I should consider. :)
Jazrok: Super excited to have a skald also. Normally wouldn't say that as a barbarian then remembered I'm unchained!
The Storytelling Cat |
Alrighty! Now that everyone's here, I'd like to ask you all a fairly important question.
I originally intended to run this campaign with a more mature audience in mind. To that end, I want to know: what level of detail are you comfortable with regarding violence and suggestive themes? Are there things you'd rather I leave out?
Torsten Runeforger |
Violence is fine. It’s a violent game and a violent setting.
Suggest themes, ok...but fade to black before anything explicit happens.
Serisa |
Violence is fine - I'd prefer not to have sexual violence or sexual menace please - I get enough of that in real life. In a world where there are no differences between the strength level of men and women, it makes a lot less sense than in our world.
"I'm going to beat you into the ground, rip off your head, and sh*t down your throat."
Threats of real violence are excellent, gory details are also awesome. I'm a biologist, not much affects me :D
"I'm going to beat you into the ground and show you what a real man is like when I make you scream."
Why is that necessary? Threats of rape are such a trite and BS way that movies use to take the lazy way out when threatening women. To me, it shows lack of imagination and inability to create a real sense of danger. Again, in a world where men and women have the same stats and combat abilities - it makes no sense that something like that would even develop.
But pour on the regular violence :D
Suggestive themes don't bother me - like above, I'd prefer consensual.
Granted, I would like to see what happens when some dude gets a face full of STR 18 Sacred Fist for trying something :D
Jazrok |
Bring on the violence, and I'm okay with a moderate amount of suggestive themes that fade to black as well before the descriptions get too detailed. I'd prefer that the sexual themes not become the focus of the campaign.
Also, do you mind if we make some more minor character tweaks? If like to change out the hobgoblin racial trait Authoritative for Fearsome, and swap my fcb from hp to another skill point.
Spikey Berry Piercer |
100% on board with what people are saying. I don't care about the violence, though I suppose I could discover that some things are past my comfort zone. In which case, I'll mention it. I'm also all right with implied consensual sex (but am not interested in RPing or reading a detailed scene).
Serisa: Am also a biologist! I study disease ecology. What do you do?

I Wonder what happen if a Calistrian bard sings too lewd? ^^
Saying hello from the Gladiatrix side! Have a nice (or dirty, if you Don't mind) game

Molecular biology specializing in computational biology (gives my age right there) and immunology. I took the siren song lure of money on the internet some years ago and applied my supercomputing knowledge to building big web systems. It pays better :D
Now, I'm principal architect at a big-ish internet company.

Lewd songs are great - "A wizard's staff has got a nob on it" is one of my favorites :D

And what about "An hedgehog can't be buggered at all"?

Ah, my second favorite :D
Torsten Runeforger |
How is he seeing through his helmet? I assumed like real world variants this one doesn’t make him blind. That would cripple a character. Mechanically how does it work then?
The Storytelling Cat |
Ah, I think I see what's wrong now. The andabatae were gladiators who fought while their sight was restricted--historically, their helmets either had no eyeholes or only one eyehole.
And I thought you were doing a Kinetic Knight sort of deal with your Kineticist, instead of going ranged. I didn't look at your character sheet too closely--I missed that.
I'll allow you to fight as if your opponents had partial concealment against you--so you can make ranged attacks while wearing your helmet and have to roll under 90 on percentiles to hit. Sorry I didn't clarify that before.
Torsten Runeforger |
Alright then...would you mind if I changed my Traits and/or feats to overcome this? A trait which gives me a 10% miss chance on all of my attacks is something I’d look at overcoming if I knew about it from the start.
I had thought it was like this: https://aonprd.com/TraitDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Spirit%20Lodge%20Dreamer
A trait that made it easier to hit people. Instead it’s the opposite, giving me the penalty. The opposite of a trait.
Torsten Runeforger |
Can I change the trait to Peregrinus and have a dwarven boulder helm? Same feel but feels worth the trait
Torsten Runeforger |
GM: How about I switch to Peregrinus, and how a Dwarven Boulder Helm? Mechanically it’s +2 AC vs crit confirmations and a 1d4 damage attack he will never use. But it would keep the fluff and the feel of him wearing a thick helmet designed to both embarrass him and show the crowd his dwarfiness.
Torsten Runeforger |
Thank you. :)
Change made. And now if he gets the order to kill he can do so with a headbutt. Sure to be a crowd pleaser
