Do we have 2 rounds including grabbing their stuff? Just searching them would take more than that, then identification would take even more.
I just want to know if we have time to use cure light wounds wands, or need to use more powerful healing magic to get better faster.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

The rounds are in addition to grabbing their stuff. I'll let you have ID'd all the magic items before the two rounds start. I mean, I'm a monster, but I'm not THAT big of a monster.

**OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT** (2 of 2)
Suddenly, it becomes clear that the astral invaders’ retreat is merely a ploy. More invaders pour through the rifts to reinforce their companions. Their reckless assault tears the holes wider, and the entire demiplane begins to shift and fold. Locations fade and vanish, reappearing miles away, now separated by a wide expanse of barren, rocky wasteland. The invaders continue to pour through, and the tapestry’s exhausted repair mechanisms cease to function altogether. The triumphant attackers converge on the Pathfinders scattered across the wasteland.
Then, the sky turns red.
A primal screech pierces the tapestry, and a colossal ruby-flamed phoenix appears in the sky, its wings nearly blocking the sun. It swoops across the sky at tremendous speed, its tattered feathers leaving a trail of smoke. With another screech, it flaps its massive wings, and countless fiery feathers shoot towards the invaders. As the feathers strike, they explode, incinerating much of the invading force. Then the phoenix turns its attention to the other outsiders—the mass of Pathfinders—and beats its wings once more. A barrage of feathers strikes the wasteland, and from each resulting inferno emerges a bird of pure ruby-red flames.
Aram Zey’s voice echoes. “Can you hear me, Pathfinders? The tapestry is in its death throes! You are cut off—I cannot help you escape. Destroy the phoenixes—perhaps their magic can repair the tapestry!”
Table GMs, the Tapestry’s Last Defense condition on page 29 is in effect.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

All around, flaming feathers barrage the tapestry. The scattered demiplane natives are unharmed by the inferno, as is the landscape itself. Screeches echo across the ruby-tinted landscape, and the tattered birds of ruby fire close in.
You find yourselves in a barren space, surrounded by scorched rock! A bird made of ruby flames soars through the air, smoke trailing in its wake.

Round 1:
Naalij, Undy, Roland, Serpent Shogun, Zartan
PHOENIX
Swaayah, Rufeo
Naalij, Undy, Roland, Serpent Shogun and Zartan are up!

![]() |

Serpent Shogun begins his usual berating. "Get out there and attack that thing! Split up! Someone cast a fire resist spell! Stop standing around!" Move action to begin inspire courage +2
Realizing that he is giving out rather a lot of orders, he casts a spell to make sure his minio--allies are able to fulfill them all quickly. Standard action to cast HASTE. Thus, Harmonic Spell makes it so he doesn't take up a bardic performance round this turn
Serpent Shogun then waits (im)patiently for someone to provide energy protection and/or resistance to him.
Between haste, good hope, and inspire everyone is at:
+5 on attack rolls
+4 on damage rolls

![]() |

Naalij already has a necklace with talisman and a ring of protection +2 so Serpent Shogun can grab that.
After grabbing the enemies stuff, mainly two healing potions the wand if no one is interested, Naalij drinks a potion of cure serious wound that was given to him prior to the mission. 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (7, 5, 3) + 5 = 20 Feeling better but not quite, Naalij drinks another potion 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
When the enemy shows up, Naalij tries to recognize the creature.
Which knowledge would that be?

![]() |

During the two rounds respite before this next fight began:
Undy casts Life Bubble on the entire group and then taps himself once again with his wand of Heightened Awareness (which is then immediately dismissed when we roll initiative)
Riddy will use his wand of Protection From Evil on himself and on Undy.
Knowledge (Arcana): 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (4) + 23 = 27
Riddy Knowledge (Arcana): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16
In order of preference: Special Defenses, Special Attacks, Immunities, Resistances, Vulnerabilities
Undy will cast Protection From Energy (fire), Communal and touch everyone in the party, granting everyone 108 points of Fire Immunity for 90 minutes divided by 9 party members = 10 minutes., and then fly up above the group.
Riddy will activate his Greater Invisibility ability and also fly up with Undy.

Roland steps to the side and trains his bow...
What is zhis zhing? It does not look like zhe devil or zhe demon. Is it even evil? I have zhe bad feeling about zhis already.
Waiting to see if someone can ID it before launching arrows. But will use instant enemy if we can tell what it is...assuming it is evil and something the party can identify-monster-type, he will cast instant enemy.
Roland will unleash a flight of arrows the red bird.

Knowledge (arcana) (heroism/good hope, heightened awareness): 1d20 + 4 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 4 + 2 + 2 = 23
What’s the thing this creature is most known for?

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

It's a phoenix. It's most well known for fire and rebirth.
The phoenix lets out a clear piercing screech and bursts into flame, fire licking out a full 20 feet! It swoops to the ground, hovering 15' above the ground and lashes out with its beak!
Undy, Riddy, SS, Zartan, Roland, Swaayah each must succeed at a DC 24 Reflex save or take 4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 4, 4) = 12 fire damage!
Bite vs Swaayah: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (9) + 22 = 31 for 2d8 + 7 ⇒ (1, 6) + 7 = 14 damage plus 1d6 ⇒ 1 fire! At the same time, a wall of fire bursts into being amidst the heroes! Everyone within 10' of the flaming circle takes 2d4 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5 fire damage and 1d4 ⇒ 4 fire to anyone else. Passing through it deals 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (4, 6) + 15 = 25 fire damage!
Swaayah and Rufeo are up for Round 1!

![]() |

Rufeo hops off of Ki'lala and then cast a spell. He then reaches out to everyone he can touch.

Ki'lala,Rufeo Undy, SS and his mount all have resist energy 30 now, for about 20 minutes each.
No way for Ki'lala to reach it this round. So, she will defend rufeo the best she can until she is told otherwise

![]() |

Roland dodges the flames as best he can while looking for next areas to target on the bird.
Reflex haste hope : 1d20 + 15 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 15 + 1 + 2 = 29 evasion

![]() |

Knowledge (Arcana), good hope: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 2 = 11 Naalij is always trying to remember if enemies resist, or worse are immune to, his fire spells first, before trying to find what kind of elemental energy or attack they have
As the creature is obviously on fire, Naalij asked “Does fire even affect that creature?”
I think no one will be able to answer Naalij.
Naalij grabs his lesser rod of acid elemental spell, then testing his theory that the thing is immune to fire, casts fire snake. The snake moves toward the creature avoiding any of the ifreet’s companions.
Fire Snake, Reflex DC 24 for half: 13d6 + 14 ⇒ (6, 6, 3, 1, 5, 4, 1, 2, 6, 3, 1, 3, 4) + 14 = 59
The 4 points from the wall of fire probably reduces the communal protection from energy first; I do not know how that spell interacts with innate energy resistance.
Also, as said when we presented our characters, Naalij can see through fire and smoke, due to the Firesight feat, and is able to see through the wall of fire.

![]() |

A lot of fire just happened. Adding the +2 bonus from Good Hope. As a tiefling, Swayaah has 5 fire resistance.
"Wow, that thing's fast."
Swaayah must succeed at a DC 24 Reflex save or take 12 fire damage!
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 9 + 2 = 16 "Ow."
Bite vs Swaayah: 14 damage plus 1 fire!
"OW."
Everyone within 10' of the flaming circle takes 2d4 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5 fire damage
"Whaaaaatever!"
21 damage total due to fire resistance.
"Uh, I wanna smash this bird so badly... Can anyone fly? Or grant me flight?" Swayaah pulls out her longbow and fires once.
Composite Longbow +1, SS's buffs: 1d20 + 13 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 13 + 5 = 37
Damage, SS's buffs: 1d8 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 4 = 13

![]() |

How tall is the wall of fire? I am assuming the huge+ bird, hovering 15' has some part visible to the party from the ground
Roland barely notices the fire protection is reduced by the flaming wall. (5 off 108 fire protection)

![]() |

Undy Reflex DC 24: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32 No damage from the fire aura (unless it's reflex for half?)
Riddy Reflex DC 24: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16 Fail. Does Improved Evasion apply? If not, 12 points off of Riddy's protection from fire.
Both Undy and Riddy are within 10' of the Fire Wall (assuming that it goes up to their height), so it takes 5 off of their protection from fire.
Reminder to everyone: due to Haste, Undy was able to put Protection from Fire, Communal on the entire party, so everyone has 108 points of fire protection. I believe that this is absorbed first, before Resist Energy, for those who now have both.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Roland, the arrows did hit and seemed to do some damage, but not nearly as much as you'd expect.

Rufeo buffs, while Swaayah's arrow doesn't seem to affect the great bird!

Naalij didn’t use his rod on his fire snake, it makes it a full-round action to cast, and it is a lesser rod so maximum 3rd level while fire snake is level 5. Also Naalij caster level on fire snake is 13th (which explains the 13d6), not 10 so does 20 makes it past the creature SR? I guess fire damage will do nothing anyway.
Wall of Fire is 20 high.
I assume fire will not have been effective.
Naalij concentrates and using the magic of the rod in his hand, cast a green fireball, which explodes into the air with an acrid scent.
Use blood intensity to up the max number of dice of the spell by Cha mod, up to caster level, so on fireball, that’s just an extra dice.

Serpent Shogun continues his berating of his allies. He drops his sword, letting it hang on his weapon cord, then takes off a strange Numerian device from under his cape. It consists of a pair of cylindrical tanks worn on a shoulder harness with a pair of rings worn on the thumbs.
"Fly with that, Swayaah! Protect your Shogun! Use the thumb rings to control the direction. And make sure the holes in the cylinders are pointed DOWN when you put them on!"
He is tossing you a Timeworn Jetpack. It hasn't been used yet, so you'll have to roll for a glitch if you use it

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

COMBAT OVER!
A single phoenix feather is all that remains!
You’ve received a feather formed from the magic of the legendary sorceress Hao Jin. You can perform one of the following three actions when you receive this feather.
Repair: Succeed at a Hard Craft (cloth), Heal, Knowledge (arcana or planes), Spellcraft, or Use Magic Device check. If this feather has been empowered, the DC decreases to Average.
Resurrect: Cast resurrection on a single member of the party. If this feather has been empowered, you can instead resurrect the entire party. Using the feather for resurrection consumes all of its magic, meaning it can no longer be used to repair the tapestry.
Empower: To empower a feather, a PC can expend one use of a healing ability (such as channel energy) or an ability that does fire damage, or cast one spell with the healing or fire descriptor with a sufficient spell level (1st level for Subtiers 1–2 and 3–4, 2nd level for Subtier 5–6, 3rd level for Subtiers 7–8 and 10–11). Check the empowered box below and pass this handout to another table.
What would you like to do?

![]() |

Really?!? It seemed like we hardly hit it at all, especially with its DR. Also, ooc - unless this was something that we already determined with our rather weak Knowledge checks - isn't it supposed to be reborn? And what about Swayaah? Still missing?

![]() |

I am willing to sacrifice a flame strike to empower it. 4th level spell

![]() |

I've also got another fireball (3rd level) that could be used. Or would it be better to just use the feather to try to repair the tapestry? Undy is currently at +25 Knowledge Arcana and we still have this boon: "Once during the adventure, one PC can reroll a d20 roll and use the new result." if the die roll is bad. I'm fine with this approach (GM, can others aid on the Repair check?) but don't want to roll unless others agree.
Also, we should figure out what happened to Swayaah, in case we need to use it to resurrect him. GM, any check to know where he is or what happened?

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Others can aid, so long as they have the same skill. You should definitely roll first, though. With your bonus, there's only a 5% chance you fail.
Swaayah will reappear in the next round, looking disgruntled but unharmed.
Once you roll, you have 2 rounds before something else happens.

![]() |

Most of Naalij’s spell are fire based. As a sorcerer he has plenty of spell to spare, especially 3rd levels. Let me use one of his spell slot for a fireball, he still have plenty, seven in fact.

Naalij then casts protection from elements, selecting electricity, then fire shield, selecting to be protected from cold for 11 rounds.

![]() |

I think we can only do one of the 3 options. So we can either attempt to repair, or we can empower it and pass it on to another table? I'm suggesting we save our spell slots and simply try to repair it ourselves. Any objections?

If Undy *knows* that something is about to happen, he'll cast See Invisibility and then Greater Invisibility.
Since we also just received a damaged feather from another table, why don't we have Naalij put a Fireball into that one to empower it and then we can pass it on?

Undy and Riddy also fly back and up, to a height of 25' in the air. Undy is invisible (Greater Invis) but Riddy's Greater Invis has expired and he is now visible, though he attempts to stealth (if possible - he's tiny, but I'm not sure the conditions allow it) in hopes of avoiding the creature's attention. Undy also has See Invisibility active if it matters.
Riddy Stealth: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (10) + 21 = 31
