Meanwhile, the tiny water elemental swirls itself into an impressive vortex of water. Assuming Talbot is still conscious, it advances 20 feet, to occupy the space of Talbot's cart.

Works same as whirlwind ... Fortitude 8 save or 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 damage. Reflex 8 save or flat-footed, grappled, and off-target.

Round 6

Move Action

Kat drops her weapon behind her and draws her baton from her waist strap.

Standard Action

She reaches out with the baton to strike Talbot, despite her injuries.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1

Primrose moved up and readied herself. She knew that there was every chance one of the idiots with her - probably Harrac - would forget that they were supposed to be trying to get Talbot alive. She had a spell that would help, but only if she was on hand.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Primrose was right about her idiot companions. Between them, Hank and Harrac nearly decapitated the fleeing ex-Starfinder. Prim was right there though, and cast her Stabilize spell to keep the man from being all dead.

With Talbot no longer actively fighting you, it was a simple matter to reach in the moving cart and hit the shutoff switch. You dragged Talbot out of the cart, made sure he was stable, and then ran through his pockets. In one of them was a blue-green crystal, with what looked like coral one one end, making a stable base for it to stand upright. This is exactly the stone that VC Arvin had described - the charlatan's stone. In addition, to his armor and weapon, Talbot was carrying a ring of resistance and a handful of credsticks.

The office of the mine had some more items of interest, including a brown force field armor upgrade and more credsticks.

Congratulations! Mission accomplished. Now, what do you want to do with Talbot? Turn him over to the AbadarCorp rep as promised? Let him go? Cut off his head and display them on the hood of your shuttle?

Once Talbot was out of the cart and on the ground, Kat quickly and roughly turned him on his front, knelt in the middle of his back, and twisted his arms behind him. After fishing her binders from her belt, she clasped them around his wrists.

"Not taking any chances with this clown. Should we see about negotiating with AbadarCorp now that we have a live deadbeat to turn over?"

Although I do like the hood ornament idea...

K'zict sends out to his colleagues, <I agree with getting this cur to AbadarCorp. Couldn't hurt to have them owe us, can it?>

Agreeing to talk with Mr. Philt, the AbadarCorp representative, you called him on the link provided. His response was to tell you to stay were you were as he came to meet you with an extraction team. It was less than a half-hour when an armored vehicle pulled up to the mine's entrance, and you were again looking at the smartly-dressed Mr. Philt and his vesk bodyguards.

"Ah yes, Mr. Talbot. It will be so nice getting acquainted with him before leading him to Verces courts for fraud. Thank you for apprehending him alive...though the wounds on his person seem to say it was a close thing. Now, lets talk a deal. You Starfinders are all about helping people, yes? Altruistic to a T, while looting anything that doesn't get out of your way? I am willing to offer this. The people of this mining town have shown themselves to be tenacious, resourceful, and loyal to a fault. While that did not bode well while they harbored this fugitive fraudster, I believe it would work in AbadarCorp's favor."

"In return for Talbot rendered to me for trial for fraud, AbadarCorp will not only not hold Tasch and its citizens liable for abetting that crime, we will invest here. AbadarCorp has long considered a construction of a shipping hub here near Maro, outside of Maro's official reach and well away from the established criminal gangs there. Tasch would serve well as this location, and if the people here show half the drive and loyalty to us as they did to Reynald Talbot, both the company and the town stand to make out very well from this arrangement. After all, such a facility would need construction staff, guards, pilots, and corporate employees, and not all of those will be brought in from offworld."

"What do you say? Do we have a deal?"

Gletch clears his throat. "I would agree with this, although I would recommend that this investment be considered robustly. Investment in the infrastructure to support the community, as well as those who live, work, and shop here. Affordable medical and educational facilities, specifically, which may not have the same overt and immediate financial rewards as the investments you mention, but would no doubt be considered a valuable asset ... in the broader sense of the term."

Of course you know what they say about being too good to be true! Still, what choice do these people have here? Either that or die a slow death out here.

Before Mr Philt arrived:
Kat took the time to rest and survey the damage to her systems. Dismally she remarked to her teammates "I don't suppose the bar in town will serve us anymore."

Supporting all her weight on her good leg, Kat scowls at the lack of any mention of personal profit on Talbot's handover. However, having been poor all her life, she agrees that economic investment into the town is the best resolution.

She quietly nods her consent to her teammates.

Gletch nods. "We have retrieved that object, and will see it rightly returned to the Society."

"Good. Then a deal is made. It is a good rain that gives blessings to all showered upon." Mr. Philt gave a nod, and his bodyguards hauled Talbot into the armored vehicle.

Mr. Philt went with you to the center of Tasch, just outside the Digger's Dive as it happened, and made the pronouncement of Talbot's treachery and the town future. At first, the shirren's was met with glares of resentment, or even fear of retaliation from AbadarCorp, but as Mr. Philt continued, jaws dropped in astonishment. His final words were met with cheers, as the townsfolk praised both him and the group of Starfinders who were instrumental in this new future for the town. You didn't have to pay for a single drink in the Dive that night, no matter how much you decided to put down. More than once, you were lauded as the true saviors of Tasch.

***************************

When you returned to Absalom Station, VC Arvin was very happy to hear that you managed to repair some of the Starfinders' reputation with both AbadarCorp, and the town of Tasch. He considered the mission to be a complete success, and took possession of the Charlatan's Stone to go back into the archives once more, this time properly labeled.

"As for you, get some rest. I am sure we will be calling upon such qualified Starfinders a lot in the future."
