Aric (HP 13/15)
Conner (HP 13/13)
*******************************************************************
Aric climbs out of the pit leaving Valghaz there with the dead beetle and then quickly finds a target for his great sword in the beetle engaged with Conner and the injured Mistra. Aric's blow is enough to turn the attention of the beetle allowing Conner to smash his flail against the beetle's hard exterior. As the flail hits you watch the beetle spit up some blood.
Behind the group Aladair lets an arrow fly and it strikes the humanoid spider in the leg.
Penance, Valghaz and Mistra. Your turn.

Valghaz Ironhammer |

Athl: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Valghaz likewise climbed out of the hole, and proceeded to call more fire down upon the last remaining foe.

Still poisoned, so worst two rolls. Apologies for the delay!

Penance the Tiefling |

SORRY THIS TOOK FOREVER. My life decided to try to kill me out of nowhere for some reason, both figuratively and literally...okay well not literally, but a random leg crap that lasts a day and a half feels pretty damn close to death. Anyway, onwards!
The cocoon entrapping Penance wiggles fervently for a moment, then stills...
...
...and catches on fire from within!
If it is allowed, I will use Control Flames to light my cocoon on fire. I presume that also means I’m on fire as well, but I got fire resistance so I’m fine with that.

DM Aumakua |

Mistra the creature is currently out range for you to move and attack would you rather attack the beetle or move and ready an attack vs humanoid?
Penance np!
Penance burns away the webbing restraining her not worried whether her own fire burns her due in part to her diabolical heritage.

Mistra manages to jam her quarterstaff in between the carapace shell of the head and thorax. The beetle snaps it pincers in pain.
Valghaz quickly follows Aric out of the pit and sends another column of fire down on the beetle this time catching it's abdomen. The beetle continues to cling to it's life.
Surrounded the beetle strikes at 1-2 Aric; 3-4 Mistra; 5-6 Conner: 1d6 ⇒ 2 the half orc. The pincer's crush Aric and hold him tight. Aric takes 4 points of damage and is now grappled and restrained. DC 12 to escape
The creature has disadvantage on Dexterity Saving Throws.
The runs up to Penance just as she frees herself from the webbing and then bites her sinking it's fangs into her shoulder. It then grabs Penance with its claw and looks to be ready to drag her away from the party.
Penance takes 5 points of damage from the bite and another 6 points from the poison. Penance falls unconscious and will need to make a Death Save on her next turn.
Aladair, Aric and Conner. Your turn.

Conner bashes his trusty flail against the carapace of the beetle causing a crack but it maintains it's hold on Aric.
The half orc struggling in the beetle's pincers tries to stab down, but the blade is turned away by the beetle's armor.
At the back of the party Aladair lodges another arrow into the creature as it begins to drag away Penance.
Penance please make a Death Save. Valghaz and Mistra. Your turn.

Mistra Aldbrooke |

Mistra attacks the beetle once again, trying to free Aric.

Still poisoned, so taking the worst of the two
She hears Penance's cry for help, but cannot reach her while the beetle is pinning Aric.

DM Aumakua |

Mistra finally puts an end to the beetle as it releases Aric!
Mistra you can still move 30 ft if you would like to

Valghaz Ironhammer |

More fire came down, as Valghaz found it too hard to manouever in the right confines of the tunnel.
Sacred Flame DC12 Ref for half: 1d8 ⇒ 4

Mistra Aldbrooke |

Mistra shouts in triumph as the beetle falls, and starts limping towards Penance. Hold on! I'm on my way! Mistra has the inane thought - possibly a side effect of being poisoned - that Penance cannot really hold on to anything since she is not in control of her movement at the moment.
DM, could you move my token for me? My phone won't load the page and my office network disallows tiny url links.

DM Aumakua |

Dex save DC12: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Spider-man bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
dmg: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
The beetle now dead the party turns to save their unconscious companion from the grip of the spider-man. The passage is tight and Valghaz calls down more fire while Mistra finds herself snug against the wall with quarterstaff ready to lash out. You hear creature's shriek echoing all over the cave as the radiant fire sears the creature across the back.
One claw still gripping Penance the spider-man bites at Mistra who is able to fend the blow off with her outstretched staff. The creature hisses at her in frustration and continues dragging Penance away into the darkness. From the edge of the light provided by Penance's dropped candle Mistra sees a brown haired spider scurry into view.
Mistra you can make an AoO as the spider-man leaves your threatening range.
For everyone: Penance's current location is beyond the dim light area of the extended light from her candle. Only those with dark vision can see where she is currently, however Aladair and Mistra definitely saw her getting dragged to the west cave.
Aladair, Aric and Conner. Your Turn.

As the brown spider scurries into view, Mistra makes one last attack at the spider...thing... as it drags Penance out of the light.

Attack Quarterstaff: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 151d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Poisoned, so yeah... Disadvantage on the attack.
She's being dragged left! Come on, everyone! Mistra does not want to lose the Tiefling. Quite aside from the assistance in combat, she seems to be an interesting person. Plus, there's no telling what Aric's reaction would be to losing his boss... Let's not go there. We'll get her back.

Aladair |

With his dark vision, Aladair is able to see the spider creature dragging poor Penance off. He moves forward to give others the chance to get to her as he fires another arrow at the strange beast.

The spider jumps back as flail and blade come crashing down on the vermin's last location. But doing so leaves it open for the angered half orc to hack at its abdomen. The blade cuts a deep gash across it and you watch as it re-balances itself the spider turns to face Aric.
Aladair lets another arrow loose at the creature hauling away Penance. The shot takes it in the back, but it does not relinquish its grip on Penance.
Penance death save please. Valghaz and Mistra. Your turn

Mistra Aldbrooke |

Mistra takes heart from the successful attacks and steps forward to attack the spider, spinning her staff about to gain momentum.

DM Aumakua |

Mistra once again makes quick work of the vermin crushing it's skull with a firm thrust of her quarterstaff.
if you have any movement left Mistra you may use it still

Mistra Aldbrooke |

Mistra moves to follow Penance after crushing the spider-skull, but she slows as she nears the edge of the light. Does anyone have a light?! It's too dark for me to follow further! She yells to the rest of the party.
If no one with a torch / light source comes nearer, Mistra will take the next round to pull one out and light it... I'll have to check the action economy required.

Valghaz comes running down the hall picking up Penance's fallen lamp in the process. "Don't be letting her out of yer sight!"
Valghaz will dash as his action since his line of sight is blocked and would not allow him to cast radiant fire.
The wounded creature turns around, still with Penance in claw, and now seeing the whole group chasing after it shoots a stream of sticky filament from its abdomen at Mistra. You watch within seconds as her whole body gets encased in the sticky web. It then disappears into the darkness of the cave.
As of now only those with darkvision can see into the cave that the creature and Penance are currently in.
Aladair, Conner and Aric. Your turn.

DM Aumakua |

Conner: Valghaz picked Penance's dropped candle that she modified through control flamed so it is normal light for 10ft radius and then an additional 10ft radius of dim light

Conner moves as far as he can calling for some more light! Valghaz yells back, "Follow me and sink that blade into that thing!" and rushes into the cave bringing more illumination to it. Spider webs can be seen everywhere from the ceiling to the floor to the walls. Another tunnel can be seen in the southwest portion and it is clear that the creature is about to drag Penance down into it.

Like two gladiators born out of the arena Aric and Conner rush forward. Conner bludgeons the creature with his flail and drives it to the ground with his sword. There unable to move it looks up with it's deep black pupils at the group's mercy.
Aric gives it the final answer as he raises his great sword high above his and brings it down upon the creature. The head goes rolling as the steel blade cuts through flesh, tendon and bone. The creature topples over and you watch as black blood sprays from the headless neck.
"You look paler than usual, Penance. Here let me look at the wound."
