With further explanation and the promise of more food, Togg's eyes tentacle nods up and down. “You gave good food to Togg, Togg let you pass. Everyone happy, and no one hungry. Some food really good, you get treasure!"

Lovissa's Diplomacy roll, Cerryl's aid, and the food you gave, expecially the fish and cupcake, were just enough to match the DC

After mentioning treasure, Togg points his tentacles to the small cave to Lovissa's right (A2). The bricks that once sealed off this natural cave appear to have been removed long ago. Garbage litters the cave’s floor, and the knee-deep pile writhes with beetles. Fresher pieces of refuse lie in the top, largely untouched by the resident decomposers.

Jastrokan finishes his painting and grins. "Okay, that sounds great!" He places the painting on Togg's treasure pile for him to keep, the he looks at the pile of 'treasure'. He digs through the garbage a bit with a magic spell, to see if there's anything valuable in the pile. SIFT! If there is he takes it, and if not he takes one of the least gross pieces of garbage.

She looks at the pile without touching it, curious if she can see anything useful or of historical interest in the pile...

Lovissa spies a satchel, underneath a human leg, at the top of the garbage heap. She points it out to Jastrokan who's already searching the pile, and he easily retrieves it...

Upon opening, the party finds a bunch of Taldan propaganda leaflets. Nothing else of note is found amongst the garbage...

The leaflets used to be a way for one of the older factions (Taldor) to gain a prestige point but they're useless as far as this scenario goes...

The tunnel terminates in a small shrine centered around a large statue of a rat, around which handfuls of baubles and trinkets lie as if left as offerings. Nearly every brick bears some type of scratch marks, many having the appearance of writing without actually forming coherent letters. About one foot above the walkway, a large pipe emerges from the southern wall.

The party of Pathfinders notice two armed humans dusting themselves off; it appears they just emerged from the large pipe...

Goodbye Togg.

Slipping by the Otyugh Cerryl still cant help looking over his shoulder a time or two as they move on. Finally convinced Togg isn't following them he turns to the ground looking for a loose stone that he would be able to cast his own Light on.

Just in case we need a way to see beyond Toban's circle and something easy to throw would be better.

Bumping into Jastrokan as the party halts abruptly but unable to see what cause it Cerryl adjusts his grip on the quarterstaff and attempts to ready himself for whatever is going on ahead.

The two men look a bit startled when Toban addressed them, putting their hands on their weapons but not yet drawing them. The nearest one answers. "Uhhhh...just a couple of guys lookin' for adventure when we were waylaid by some monstrous creature that was all mouth and tentacles...we hid in the pipe until it left. Uhhh...we're heading west looking to leave this place..."

You can tell these fellows are on edge, perhaps because of their close encounter with the creature they describe that can only be Togg; you can also easily perceive that they don't want to tell you what they're really doing here...

The men nod at Rosie and Lovissa, clearly in awe of (or at least dizzied by) the Ulfen occultist's accomplishments...one of 'em replies.

"Ummm...very impressive. We're just run of the mill explorers...we don't really know what lies beyond the pipe...when confronted with that beast, we ran this way and into the pipe to hide from it as the beast was too big to fit in the pipe...

"We'll be leaving now so you can be on your way as well..."

Suddenly, you see the eyes on the rat statue glow red followed by screeching that not all of you understand...

"Die mortal scum!"

The two strangers, whose nerves are already frayed, panic upon seeing and hearing the statue. One of the men yells, "Treachery...you're in league with the wererats!" They draw their weapons with ill intent, menace in their eyes...

Lovissa follows Toban's lead, attempting to cow these fools into fleeing before she was forced to skewer them.

"You DARE draw steel on me? ME? HA!" she draws her longsword and holds it out. "If death is what you desire you shall have it, fools! But none shall say Lovissa of the line of Halenbane did not give you a chance to live. RUN if you desire your lives!"

"Yikes! Not a pretty picture!" Jastrokan exclaims. He walks across the water with his rubber boots and up onto the other side of the tunnel, then down towards the sleeping man. "Excuse me, pardon me, coming through. I want to see where that bolt came from before we all get shot!"

Wow! Back-to-back failed DC11s with high mods, never seen that before. No worries though, at least it didn't come on a crucial save or the like...

Toban and Cerryl eye the creature but are stupefied as to what it is. Cerryl shrugs and then casts a missile that strikes it in the shoulder, causing it let out an "Eek!"

Jastrokan pulls out a paint brush and starts to paint a picture in the air. As he moves the brush around magical lines of colour appear for a moment, then vanish. "What a striking scene! First we add a few strokes here, and some colour over here, red for blood of course, and brown for walls. A little dot here... Oh, yes, it looks good now. And here's our heroes, strong and fierce! A little extra in the muscles, I think.... yes! It's a masterpiece!"

For some reason Jastrokan's magical painting makes everyone feel a bit stronger! How inspiring!

Jastrokan inspires the party, strengthening his companions literally. Rosie picks up and heaves a rock at their foe; the rock goes straight at the creature, but hits the arm of the statue which deflects it just enough to miss...

The dude in red rustles slightly, "Zzzzz," while his colleague, spooked by the gremlin-looking creature, murmurs, "Forget this!"; he rises and runs off to the west...

Everyone except Cerryl may make an AoO against yellow, if you wish...

The man in yellow disappears into darkness, oblivious of his friend who is still fast asleep...

Toban doesn't notice much about the creature, other than it does resemble what most folklore refers to as a gremlin; however, he does see that almost every brick around the shrine has scratch marks...

Knowledge (Local) DC18:
You recall hearing talk around local taverns that scratches such as these are common territorial marks left by wererats to signal a family’s strength or to leave warnings about nearby threats.

You see a couple of fresher marks on the brick that would appear to refer to 'pipe' and 'plant growth'.

Watching the one guy flee Cerryl just appears to shrug his shoulders before moving up with the rest of the group after Lovissa nearly cuts the little goblin in two.

Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20 Not sure we ever determined if we knew what this shrine was too...can also roll a planes or nature if either are more worthwhile.

Hmm...seem to remember something about were-rats scratching up their territory to signify the boundaries and strength of a clan...though that thing over there is something other than a were-rat so not sure how that impacts this observation.

Walking a little closer to the wall Cerryl stops while running his hands over a few of the scratches.

When he's done he goes over to the sleeping man and shakes him awake. "Hey! Your friend ran off. You alright?" After the man answers Toban asks, "You falsely accused us of being in league with wererats. Why? Who are they? What do you know about them?"

Cerryl and Toban detect no magic in the area (other than the magical items that some of the party carries)…

The man awakens and cowers from Toban's questions. He stammers, "I know not much...was told the area with the rat statue was a haven for wererats...but we didn't see any...suppose to make a drop west of here...I've told you all I know...let me get outta here!"
