Calendula taps the runes with her sword.
K. Planar: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
"Ayup. Thas a portal, alright. Seen ones like these in the Worldwound." She offers no further explanation from what was already said by Shenuska and Theodric.
Theodric Silvui d'Ontalen
"Assuming another one is waking up," he said to Rudrik, "but just about anything dealing with ancient magic in Varisia inevitably involves the Runelords in some way - that sword for a prime example. I can't recall what sort of place Hollow Mountain was for the Runelords, though, history to that extent's not quite my speciality."
Remind me; who was carrying Baraket and the gauntlets?
DM Brainiac
Yes, Shenuska has them.
Shenuska
Take 10 :)
"Hollow Mountain is in the Varisian Gulf. Runelord Alaznist had her face carved into it - I pity everyone that had to look at that all the time. It's meant to be full of strange creatures and so forth - a centre of Wrath's power once upon a time." Shenuska explains, one hand resting on the hilt of Baraket which juts from her hip.
"There's nothing we can do about this here though. We can warn the authorities once we get back, maybe have it guarded but we should finish the complex first. Let's go this way." She says, gesturing to the door opposite the portal.
DM Brainiac
The door opens onto a luxurious suite that has seen better days. Though outfitted with draping curtains and tapestries of immense battles, the smell of spoiled food and animal musk fouls the air.
A hulking sinspawn is here, clad in chainmail and gripping a glowing red halberd. A pair of fleshdregs accompany him. The sinpsawn's mouth twitches as he gathers as much sincerity as he can and addresses you in a rasping voice.
"Welcome. On your way down here to stop me, you ended up killing dozens. You show your wrath well. Perhaps you have a place at my Lady's side? Join me, and we'll take this town in a direction those other fools would never have been capable of. Alaznist will be pleased to see you help me raise an army before she takes back what she has lost."
Assuming you reject his offer...
The sinspawn snarls and eagerly orders his minions to attack!

Theodric may act before the enemies. Map updated.
Theodric Silvui d'Ontalen
Theo's reply to the creature's offer was simply to raise his recently-obtained metamagic rod and release the fire once more.
Empowered Burning Arc, DC16 Reflex Save for Half Damage, then stepping back a bit to clear the way for the others.
Caster level check for Spell Resistance: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Secondary Target (Northern Fleshdreg): 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 3, 6) + 3 = 17
Bloody goddamn spell resistance!
DM Brainiac
Secondary SR: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Though one of the fleshdreg resists Theo's spell, the other one shrieks as the flames incinerate it.
The sinspawn, who can only be Mozamer, clutches a holy symbol depicting a circular rune adorned with eyes. He barks out a harsh prayer in Abyssal, and a shimmering energy field surrounds him,
Everubody but Theo may act!
Theodric Silvui d'Ontalen
Shame I'm having to spend so many feats on Prestigious Spellcaster with this build - if I'd known there'd be so much spell resistance I might've saved Theo for another campaign. Hopefully this is mostly just for the first part of the campaign.
Calendula
K. Religion: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Calendula ambles around the table, already sweating from the heat in her blood brought on by a worthy battle. She mumbles something rude about Mozamer's split jaw and throws her sword at him, her arm stretching forth painfully and snapping back with an audible series of snaps and cracks.
To Hit, BR, PA, Bless: 1d20 + 13 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 13 - 2 + 1 = 26

Botting Rudrik to keep things moving.
Gladius, Bless: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Damage, Sneak Attack: 1d6 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 1 + (3) = 5
Rudrik moves up to the fleshdreg and drives his gladius into its chest. It's only a light wound, though, and the monster retaliates by biting the half-orc, drooling sizzling acid into his injury!
Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Damage + Acid: 1d6 + 1 + 1d4 ⇒ (4) + 1 + (4) = 9
9 total damage to Rudrik. Theo is up before Mozamer goes!
Theodric Silvui d'Ontalen
As he moved up behind Calendula, and frustratedly tucking the metamagic rod back into his coat, Theo bent light around him until multiple illusory copies appeared around him.
Casting mirror image.
EDIT: Also; I'm nearly tapped out - got two 1st levels and one 2nd left now.
Number of copies: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
DM Brainiac
Mozamer steps forward, slashing and biting at Calendula. The sinspawn scores a powerful hit with his halberd!
Halberd, Bite, PA: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 321d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 131d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Damage, PA: 1d10 + 9 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 9 + 6 = 20
20 damage to Calendula. If the fleshdreg survives, it most likely won't influence Theodric's actions, so everybody may act, including him!
I'm assuming (and hoping) Calendula received some healing and her HP total really isn't 12!
Theodric Silvui d'Ontalen
With no clear space to get at Mozamer, Theo leapt up onto the table to get at him with his spear.
Swift action for Arcane Strike. Gonna use a move action to get up there just to be on the safe side, but if you still think that'd take an Acrobatics check or the like, let me know.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Calendula
I have not been healed unless Nime has healed me retroactively, but as it says on my conditions marker, I am still up at 2 HP cause Bloodrage. Would withdraw but that ain't in character. Please heal me.
Calendula staggers back from the hit five foot step, nearly falling into unconsciousness, but steels herself. The halberd cut deep through her chest and upper arm, leaving a sickly black wound, oozing blood like pus. Some of the blood, normally thick and viscous and cold, has warmed by the same heat that battle always brings and slides quickly down her arm, dripping onto her rusted blade.
She thrusts forth at Mozamer, taking time to call him an "ugly, veiny freak."
She wonders briefly what it would be like to die.
To Hit, BR, PA: 1d20 + 13 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 13 - 2 = 28
Damage, Black Blood Frost: 1d8 + 6 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 4 + (4) = 16
Calendula
As a side note, if I die, despite desiring death, Calendula will respond to attempts to raise her out of a sense of duty (and Nime would know that)
DM Brainiac
Mozamer's tongue lashes the air as his sideways mouth twists into a grimace. "Fools! Feel the wrath of the Polymorph Plague!" He takes a step back from Calendula and Theo and grasps his unholy symbol, sending waves of negative energy to wrack you all with pain!
Channel Negative Energy: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 6) = 14
Everybody takes 14 damage (Will DC 16 for half). Everybody may act!
Calendula
Will Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Calendula's breath comes shallow and fast, sweat pouring down her face and body. With a final effort, she takes a step forward and throws her bloodied sword arm at the creature, gasping "Iomedae, guide my sword."
To Hit, BR, PA: 1d20 + 13 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 13 - 2 = 30

Shenuska
Will: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Shenuska, like Calendula, steps sideways to re-establish her flanking maneuver and stabs forward again. Baraket's invisible blade flickers out to leave a thin line of blood across the sinspawns neck!
Attack: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 3 + 2 = 24 Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Will Save, DC16: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
With the creature distracted for the moment, Theo quickly hopped down and fed Rudrik his last healing potion.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
5-foot-step off the table, move to retrieve the potion, standard to jam it down Rudrik's throat.
If that takes more actions than available (not sure what's used for feeding someone else a potion) then he's just gonna move up and help with the stabbing.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Theodric Silvui d'Ontalen
I'll allow Rudrik to have drank that potion before this fight so the channel doesn't have a chance to kill him outright. He will be at -2 HP or -9 HP before Nime's healing, depending on his save. That means he will be conscious and able to act this round.
In that case then Theo would've gone after the sinspawn and utterly failed to hit it. Moved him to where he'd be able to hit and flank with Shen, but with a natural 1 on the attack roll...
DM Brainiac
Botting Rudrik to move things along.
Rudrik Will: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
Gladius: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Rudrik bravely moves to rejoin the fight. He tumbles under Mozamer's reach and slashes at the sinspawn, but his blade scrapes against the creature's chainmail. Theo misses, but Shenuska scores a good hit with Baraket.
Though badly wounded, Mozamer assaults Calendula with vicious fury. His halberd bites deeply into her side, and while she just barely parries the follow-up strike, the sinspawn bites into her neck, tearing at her throat. The bloodrager collapses, bleeding out!
Halberd, Bite, PA: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 261d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 121d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Damage: 1d10 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 241d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
30 damage to Calendula. If my math is right with the retroactive healing, that should drop her to -12 HP after she falls unconscious and drops out of bloodrage. She's not quite dead! Everybody is up!
Shenuska
SR: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 2 = 19
MM: 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 6, 3) + 3 = 14
Shenuska steps back and flicks Baraket towards Morzamer's back. The phantom blade appears in ghostly outline, streaking towards the sinspawns back! It seems to strike something a few inches from flesh, but slides through to strike the sinspawn in the back!
1 PP for Focused Force, hence improved damage.
DM Brainiac
Shenuska's magic missiles slam into Mozamer, crushing bone and rupturing flesh. He lets out a final strained shriek before finally collapsing in a bruised and bloody heap--next to the bruised and bloody heap that is Calendula. Fortunately, the bloodrager is still barely clinging to life!
Mozamer has a pearl of power (2nd level), +2 chainmail, and +2 halberd.
The suite is nearly empty of valuables, though one of the desks contains several crumpled sheets of paper with scribbled writing in Thassilonian.
Theodric Silvui d'Ontalen
When he was sure someone was patching Rudrik up which I assume is gonna be Nime since I think she's still got the healing wand... and is probably the only member of the team who knows healing spells, Theo looked around the room and came across the documents.
"Ugh; Thassilonian's hard enough to read as it is, but when you're handwriting is this bad..."
Know Arcana: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
... is that really my third natural 1 in a row in this game? Bloody hell.
"Bloody hell, I'm seeing some stuff related to conjuration magic - I can recognise that rune easily enough but, honestly, I've seen physicians with more legible writing."
Shenuska
Shenuska thrusts Baraket into the sinspawn's eye before removing the blade and doing her best to clean it. She then moves to inspect the writing from behind Theo, her warm breath on his neck no doubt helping him concentrate much better...
Take 10 on the check :)
"He's been trying to fix the portal. Mixed success and I think we've killed most of his summons. Except for the hydraggon qlippoth..." She says, before a frown creases her features. "He thinks if the power source is recharged then he could build an entire network. That sounds like something that needs stopping!"
Theodric Silvui d'Ontalen
Shen standing so close hadn't helped with translating the paperwork. While he prided himself on keeping his interest in the fairer sex under control, he wasn't immune.
"Summons?" Theo asked, turning to face Shen. "So that portal might not be an open doorway, after all? Something on the other side needs something here to call it through?" While he wasn't as interested in Thassilon as his family members, their culture and magic still intrigued him and it was one way he'd learnt to keep his desires in check.
