"Looks like 20 or more. Moving fast."

It's been a long day....

<Looking through the glasses.>

"These guys look f$@~ed up. They're sniffing stuff. Scenting like dogs."

<He puts down the glasses and lift up his assault rifle.>

Take it easy. I'm done for the day, myself.

“Niiice…” drawls Dave, looking at the rifle, taking it up. “Yeah, it’s been a while, but I can use this … can’t see sh!t in the dark though…”

Sam looks at the Sniper Rifle and gives out an appraising whistle.

"I've never used one, but I'm sure I can give it a good go."
She stuffs the Sig Sauer into her pants and picks up the Beretta, looking down the sight over the city. She grabs the bag of magazines and leads Dave over to the roof edge. Pulling out a Magazine, she slams it into the slot and uses the sight to look down in the direction Klein and Jack were looking in.

Mike has begun to get the feeling that something's about to go down. He exits the Camaro, clamps his pipe wrench onto his belt, and begins to climb up to the rooftop command center.

Patrick trips the WT again

"Johnnie ... get back to cars. Zombies in area, we need to circle the wagons, over."

You'll have trouble seeing the shamblers in the schoolground. But when they hit the streets, well, the lights are on.

Samantha Bastian wrote:

It's heavy, but a good heavy.

You can't see them clearly but there is no mistaking the gait, and the behaviour is inhuman: jogging, stopping and sniffing the air. There are definitely more than 20 of them, at about 300 yards, in a school ground, moving toward the alley behind the pharmacy.

Patrick stays close to the van and keeps the side door open, waiting for Johnnie. He sees the punker Mike climb out of the car and head up the building. He trips the WT again.

"Sam you on the roof still? Mike is climbing to your position. Don't brain him, over."

Patrick looks at Mary Ann.

"You doing okay? We gotta be ready, we might be running in a moment if the zombies start showing."

The van's stereo plays softly, just loud enough for Patrick to catch the menacing intro chords to Cake's "The Distance"

You cross through the neighboring parking lot and into the back alley; it's not well lit but the zombie musk isn't blowing so strong back here. It's easy to guess how Judd and Sam got up on the real estate building off the top of the dumpster.

The corner where the buildings meet is full of the spoor of kids cutting class: graffiti, butts, roaches, a moisture warped physics text with a hole bored through it. There are a few parked cars in the alley but nothing interesting... work trucks mostly.

"Roger, that, over." Johnnie runs back to the van.

Old memories returning to him quickly, Dave opens up the gun, checks the barrel, magazine and firing mechanism, before putting it back together, loading a magazine and grabbing another, and checking the scope.

He settles in besides Sam and begins setting up the bipod.

“Tell Sarge roger on Alex – wait, did he just call him Mike? Never mind… Oh and tell him he’s got about twenty of those freaks heading towards him, if he either wants to drive and meet us later, or go Arnie on them again…”

Dave Judd wrote:

D'OH!

So Mary Ann is in the van, Sarge is circling, and Johhny is running back to the van.

Mike is climbing up onto the roof by now.

You hear the Colonel chamber a round.

"I wish I had Bob up here."

"F@g."

<Jack lights a smoke and them sits it on the crenelation beside his rifle. Then he chambers a round.>

<Grumbles.>

"You're lucky I made that promise to your daddy, Jackie."

<Raises his voice again for the next:>

"Sam and Dundee. The alley lights are gonna hit them when they get to that fence. Sam start in the middle and work right. Dundee start with the rightmost and work left. And shoot them in the head or you'll just slow them down a little."

"You know what to do Jackie."

"On my command."

Keeping an eye out for Johnnie, Patrick wishes desperately that he hadn't had to give back Charlene when he deployed from Iraq. The cranky M16 rifle would have been a comfort right about now, though perhaps a SAW would make him feel even better ....

Sgt. Curtin wrote:

How about two?

"On my command."

Sam watches Dave and follows his lead, making sure she has some spare magazines within reach and setting up her Beretta's bipod, aiming down towards the spot Klein indicated.

"Ready when you are General."

“Call that a gun … this is a gun,” mutters Dave. “Rightio, ready.”

You’re just playing Resident Evil mate, he thinks to himself, as a bead of sweat trickles down his forehead. It’s just a game. They’re not people… He lines up the sights.

Ha! Unfortunately I was never that good at Resident Evil...

Love 'em.

Finished the first.
Finished the 2nd and got halfway through the alternate.
Got about halfway through the third.
Got barely anywhere in the 4th, primarily because my PS2 sat in the garage after my daughter was born and we moved. It didn't see the light of day for a year and by that time I was way too busy. =(
One of a handful of games I've played through to the end!

Weird. I was just listening to "Comfort Eagle".

Mike scrambles up onto the roof.

I'm assuming this is an automatic success. If not, Mike takes a 10.

As long as I'm wishing, how about a Bradley?

Mike O'Neill wrote:

Also a fine outing by Cake

Patrick sees the flash of a lighter on top of the building. Odd.

So there he is, zombie musk on the wind and Johnny jogging south toward the van and he sees, but then his eyes could be deceiving him in the low light, he_sees what looks like 4 people standing at the front of the gun distributor building. Very odd indeed.

Patrick squints into the gloom, trying to spot any zombies.

Perception: 1d20=18

The swirling chaos of trumpet and synthesizer fades from the van's stereo, only to be replaced by the the apocalyptic doom riffs of Motorhead's Orgasmitron.

>>>>>MAP<<<<<

The red band describes the firing line from the top of EAD over the low buildings west of the intersection, across the alley, and into the school ground.

The range is 300+ feet.

"Fire at will."

Surprise Round

AC 14 to hit the head. They're bunched up, so until I tell you they're thinned out feel free to toss few hits to the body or other zombies if you miss the head at a %50 percent chance.

Jack and Karl fire before he's finished speaking.

Johnny and Patrick

Gunfire inexplicably erupts from the roof of EAD; you see the muzzle flare pointing north east.

Mike

Just as you clear the roof on the fire escape you see and hear gunfire on the roof of the gun distributor. It takes about 2 seconds before you realize nobody is shooting at you.

Patrick jerks as the sound of gunfire echoes along the darkened buildings. He brings the WT up and trips the button

"Sam SAM! Give me a sitrep ASAP over!"

Patrick calms down a second and breathes and tries again.

"What's going on Sam? Is it zombies? What's going on? Over"

He glances towards where the path of gunfire is heading. He looks sideways to preserve his nightvision as much as possible from the strobe flashes.

Lemmy growls on uncaring

"I love you and I slaughter you, your downfall is my gain .."

After the first 2 shots, and just before the rate increases, Patrick hears sound of falling garbage cans coming from between the buildings that the crew has parked in front of.

Dave lines up a zombie’s head in his gun’s scope, his finger about to squeeze the trigger – then nearly jumps out of his skin when gunfire erupts behind him – Karl and Jack. He fires – but his aim is off.

Attack: 14+3+1 (mastercraft) –4 (called shot) –4 (range 300+ with benefit of standard scope) = 10
Damage: 18

Blows a big chunk out of the shoulder of the zombie behind it though.

Patrick runs to the open van door yelling to Mary Anne:

"Grab whatever portable food you can grab Mary Ann we are climbing the roof!"

Patrick collects up whatever foodstuffs he has on hand from Starbucks and hustles Mary Ann out of the van and towards where "Alex" climbed. He trips the WT while doing so.

"Johnnie the sh*ts hitting the fan and we need to get up on the building. head for where the others climbed over."

Patrick hauls the van door closed and grabs the keys out of the ignition, hitting the locks. Lemmy is cut off in mid growl:

"Your bones will build my palaces
Your eyes will stud my crown
For I am Mars, the God of War
And I will cut you**"

Sorry Moth, that's AC 14 for zombie heads, AC10 for the zombie. Let's just leave your post as it is and next round you can recalculate. Write it off to jitters. Also, the range should be -3. 100-200 ft -1 / 200-300 ft -2 / 300-400 ft -3. Or am I mistaken?

The Colonel start pumping a straight single shot off every second. Jack is pretty fast, too. Pros.

Upon hearing the gunfire, Johnnie hits the dirt. He run crawls to the ground. He keeps his head down, as he doesn't WTF that guy is shooting at.

"It's already a long day... and there is not end in sight."

"Almost at the van, over." Replies Johnnie to Pat.

According to the modern srd its -2 per range increment; so 100-200 = -2, 200-300 = -4, 300-400 = -6.

I presume this thing has a standard scope, and I took the liberty of assuming I had an action to line it up before the order to fire. Scope increases range increment x1.5, so 150-300 = -2, 300-450 = -4.
I missed the head of the zombie I was aiming for, but 50% chance of hitting another .. which I realised I didn't include that percentage roll in my post ... is that right?
Actually, just realised that I already applied the -4 for called shot in my calculation, so by saying head AC is 14, I'm probably applying it twice ... never mind.

Patrick trips the WT as he boots for the gun dealership.

"We got dead company ..real close ..move quick to gunshop over."

Patrick runs next to Mary Ann and keeps an eye out for shamblers.

Dave Judd wrote:

I forgot that range increment and scope rule. Yah you got hit twice with the called shot penalty.

Female Human (Caucasian; Australian) Fast Hero 4

Sam lets Dave ease a shot off first, then follows suit, missing the Zombie and slamming the bullet into the road behind it.
"Damn, this is nothing like shooting a handgun," she thinks to herself. "Gotta concentrate".
Head Shot to Zombie with Beretta Sniper Rifle. (1d20+1-4=10)
50% chance to hit another Zombie. (1d100=13)

I forget to get initiative. And also, I've been thinking hard about that initiative rule and I don't think I'm going to use it.

Someone roll d20 for the group?

Init Bonuses:

Colonel: +7
Johnnie: +6
Jack: +3
Sam: +3
Patrick: +2
Dave: +2
Mike: +2
Mary Ann: +2

Init (1d20=15)

Round 1

With all those 17s I'll just take Patrick through Mike's moves on a first come first serve basis.

Init Bonuses:

22 Colonel: +7
21 Johnnie: +6
18 Jack: +3
18 Sam: +3
17 Patrick: +2
17 Dave: +2
17 Mike: +2
17 Mary Ann: +2
10 Zombies

Give me a bit to post the situation guys, gotta play with the monkey.

Jack and Klein keep up their mad rate of fire. While fumbling with the bolts Sam and Dave see zombie heads exploding like firecrackers during Chinese New Year.

Johnny picks himself up off the ground and hears Patrick shouting for Mary Ann to run and his veins, no doubt, run ice cold when he hears the clattering of metal garbage cans and shuffling of dozens of feet coming from between the buildings.

Patrick almost throws Mary Ann out of the van and slams the door. The just clear the van as Johnny picks himself up.

The feral growl of dozen of human voices begins picks up the heart rates of those on the ground just a little more.

Mike sees the Aussie in the flare of gunfire and does the math - zombies have arrived - and a legion of them judging from the ammo being spent.

The stereos are off, but if they weren’t, damn, this’d be playing.

Jack and Klein have gone. Go crazy guys.
