"Your skills are a credit to you - should we ever reach a point where we may rest a while I would observe your skill in more detail, one should not neglect their biological components."
Celephix will try to find Sergeant Mabray, if she's still around the medical area and hand over the Ork explosive devices.
"These were... salvaged from the Xenos explosive device, while technically xenos-tech, they are simple grenades, so I do not think we will be named as heretic for utilising them - perhaps something for Thud'dr?" Celephix will raise no objections regardless of the sergeants requests.

Faye Marbray |

"Yes indeed Leni. Looks like the Commissars boys got hit extra hard and from the sounds of it, don't have a medicae. Once we've made sure the trenches are safe and clear and we've linked up with the Commissar, we'll get you over there to see to them."
And breathes a sigh of relief that is interrupted by the mention of mines in thr trenches.
"Oooooooooorrrrr.....he gets here in roughly 4 minutes instead." and she gets pensive for a bit before continuing to the rest of her squad over the vox:
"Anyone know the aproximate blast range of Ork mines? Because we could just flame-sweep the trenches for them..."
Faye clearly winces as 'Phix shows her the grenades but gets over it once she sees how big they are and is extra thankful to the Emperor that she got out relatively fine from one blowing up near her"Well, 'Phix, if you think we won't get shot for using these, then, yeah, give em to Thud. Big guy saved our asses big time in the bunker."
And after having been resting for a few minutes now, will attempt to stand up unless the Medicae "persuades" her to keep pressure off her legs with medical tools.

Cmd-Keen Medic |

Towards 'Phix while fixing the stormtrooper: "Not sure I'm comfortable with showing a metal man around the human body. Then again, better to learn from a proper doc who tries to heal than from one of those magos grow-me-a-human things. And having more hands around to do stuff is always nice."
Tapping her combead: "Seriously sarge? I'd say the blast range was from your feet to your hips. Dunno if you that was the maximum range or if you managed to stop all shrapnel before they reached max range tho. I'll get ready for more customers here - unless someone wants to check if the bunker has stopped smelling like unwashed ork socks"

Celephix |

"Orks rarely work to a standard pattern, however most mines have a relatively limited blast area, approximately one meter. Though other variables exist - whether they are anti-personnel or anti-vehicle mines, Ork tendency towards big explosions may also be a factor. Perhaps a 5 meter safe-zone is advisable?" 'phix will continue to ramble, being used to speaking via machine interface and able to communicate such detail in fractions of a second.

Choon the Expendable |

Thud accepts the grenades and takes his explosive-laden self back out into the snow. Here is natural strengths show and he plows through the snow with little regard for is being there. He heads with the flamers toward the Commisar's last position and keeps his Shredder at the ready.
perception 29: 1d100 ⇒ 11

Choon the Expendable |

He and the flamers clear the trenches as they go and torch/shoot anything that isn't human or ogryn looking. If it does look human or Ogryn it is investigated with utmost caution. Aka: Thud nudges it with his boot.

Ashora Kail |

Ashora can't quite believe the squads luck in not facing down a looming assault.
"Sarge, I'm going to hold here and keep an eye on those hills until you say otherwise. Don't have a good feeling about this."

The Ghost of War |

The two guardsmen equipped with flamers flip on the trigger-flames of their flamers and take the lead of the small group of soldiers heading towards the southern trenches to rendezvous with the Commissar.
Mercilessly they flood the trenchline with burning promethium, the stench and heat is immense and the progress is slow, but steady.
Moments after opening up with the flamers, the vox comes to life. "Faye, this is Yorrik, do you have contact? We see fire in your direction! We're close to the connection tunnel now."
Whose with the group? The flamers and Thud'dr are set. Faye maybe too? Ashora stays back to keep watch. Leni&Cel? What do you order the remaining grunts to do? You have two stormtroopers and three dirtsuckers with you atm. The rest is still in the locked chimera.

Celephix |

Cel will spend a little time checking over Doombringer, making sure the Orks didn't do anything else while planting the explosives (last thing we want is to find a fuel or powerline has been cut in the middle of attack.
Once she's done with that she'll go and monitor the flamers - at least it will be warmer with them.

Cmd-Keen Medic |

Leni is with the group which rendevous with the commissar to get her hands on the wounded more quickly, she stays at the back of the group tho since there was no time to get into her armor on yet - she has the armor and tools with her tho.

Faye Marbray |

"Commissar! My men are clearing the trenchline of any possible explosives the Orks may have placed in there with their flamers so they can remain at a safe distance!"
She hurriedly replies, having forgotten to appraise the Commissar of the situation.
If Faye is allowed to walk, then yes, she'll join the squad thats meeting the commissar.

The Ghost of War |

Vox: "Confirmed. We have reached the tunnel linking the trenches..." Then there is shouting and whimpering audible in the background that sounds a lot like "sdark intere".
The flamer team has crossed two third of the distance, as a sudden explosion in the middle of the burning trenches, about four meters from the leading men, causes a wave of burning promethium to fly in every direction, also in the direction of the team!!!
Everyone in the team give me a agi test to escape that wave of burning doom. For every row behind the flamers you receive a +10 on that roll, so Thid'dr +10, Faye probably +20 and Leni +30. If you fail, take 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 E, Pen:0 damage to the body and give another agi test +10 to not getting set on fire.

Incompetent 2: 1d100 ⇒ 74
Incompetent 1: 1d100 ⇒ 61
Incompetent 2: 1d100 ⇒ 89
The wave of burning heat catches the two flamers completely off guard and washes over them, setting their clothes on fire and their screams are terribly to witness.
Beside all this, the still active vox blares with the sound of barking, the nerf wrenching sound of a bolt gun firing and deep growling.
The compartment ramp of Doombringer was wielded shut with a solid green slime of sorts that totally blocks the opening mechanism. You are pretty sure that application of fire would burn away the slime, allowing the ramp to open again. Same goes for the top hatch.
You are just finished inspecting Doombringer as the above happens.

Choon the Expendable |

agility target 42: 1d100 ⇒ 2 = 4 DoS
Thud seems to sence what is about to happen and shouts a warning as he drops into the insulating snow, but it's not in time enough to save the two forward men.

Faye Marbray |

You would have thought that I'd remember that Promethium is more akin to Napalm than typical flamethrower fuel...
Agi 31 +20 = 51: 1d100 ⇒ 8= 4 DoS phew, I was 100% expecting the dice to screw me over again.
In the very moment that the flamer guardsmen set fire to the ground before them that Faye's proverbial glow globe illuminates and she remembers that promethium is a rather sticky substance that clings to surfaces when given the chance and that explosives tend to scatter material everywhere around them - burning fuel included.
"Hold on Guards-" is all she gets out before ducking to the ground as the explosion goes off.

Faye Marbray |

"Y'know that plan I had for clearing the trenches on any bombs? S'working out ok. Problem I didn't foresee: Flaming Promethium going everywhere. Other problem I didn't consider: potentially alerting Orks to "Fun Stuff" happening here. So. Yeah. Keep your eyes peeled, 'bout to rendezvous with the Commissar." She hurriedly appraises Ashora as she run/jogs over to the flamer crew to pat them down and extinguish any flames.
And then turns back to the squad:
"Ok, in theory, good plan. In practice, not so much. So, boys, either minimal settings to just clear any snow but not set off any explosives or, no flames and we tread carefully. Either way, whatever we can do to minimize any damage to us, or attracting any Orks." wincing visibly as the Bolt shot registers through the vox network.

The Ghost of War |

Anyone in the group can try one of the following checks, for an insight
Putting out someone who is on fire is not easy (even more so with sticky-promethium) and may endanger anyone trying to help.
You can help them putting it out, giving boni on their their agi check but people who are set ablaze have that dangerous tendency to just run around screaming rather than putting the fire out or letting others help them (every round you are on fire you have to check Willpower to be able to act normally!).
To make things worse, those two burning guards, have two near-full tanks of promethium on their backs ...

Faye Marbray |

CL-War = 50: 1d100 ⇒ 96Well, I did roll super well to not get re-crit injured...
"STOP DROP AND ROLL SOLDIERS THAT IS AN ORDER!" She shouts to them as they start going panicky and will try to help putting the flames out with snow and/or removing the Prometium-Filled back packs.

Cmd-Keen Medic |

Pure Agi +30 vs 56: 1d100 ⇒ 96
Not getting set on fire Agi +10 vs 36: 1d100 ⇒ 83
Leni is already thinking about how to best treat the wounded when the shouting starts at the front of the group.
"What did yo.. OH GOD WHY"
When she gets hit bit the wave of flame and catches fire.

The Ghost of War |

As you poke it carefully with your cutter, you manage to cut through it but immediately recognize the slime is sticking together right behind the knife again. In dire need you might use a welding torch or even your standard pattern Lasgun to remove it slowly.
The pain is immense as the sticky promethium washes over you, setting your uniform on fire. Roll a WP +10 test to act normally and not running around like a headless chicken.
Also you take additional 1d10 ⇒ 4 fire damage not reduced by soak.
Pain-induced headless chicken 1?: 1d100 ⇒ 25
Flaming Doom 1: 1d10 ⇒ 6
Pain-induced headless chicken 2?: 1d100 ⇒ 48
Flaming Doom 2: 1d10 ⇒ 4
One of the flamers simply drop to the ground, even stopps screaming after the order from Faye, most like from exhaustion and shock and is then burrowed by a heap of snow from Thudr'dr which mostly puts out the flames that ache his body.
But the second flamer now runs 1d5 ⇒ 3 to the right of the group, trying desperately to leave the deep trench and escape to the wide open battleground screaming unhumanly.
While you still struggle to cope with the situation you also hear Leni screaming in pain, and turning around see her ablaze with fire, her complete uniform burning, her hair crumbling under the heat and her skin brizzling...

Faye Marbray |

Seeing as one of the three currently aflame is now put out under a pile of snow, Faye will order the following:
"Thud, get that one and put him out like you just did this one! If you have to tackle him to the ground, do it! LENI! STOP! DROP! AND ROLL!" And will attend to the Medic and getting the flames shes covered in put out. If she goes all panicky, she'll tackle her to the ground and start rolling her in the snow.
Also, I had waaaay too much of a comedic mental image of what happened to Leni >_>

Cmd-Keen Medic |

Good thing you mention soak, I forgot to remove the 2TB from the initial wave that WAS reduced by it. So back to 8hp and down to 4hp
Will+10 vs 42: 1d100 ⇒ 74
Barely registering Fayes call she remembers what she should be doing but the pain is overwhelming. Her legs give out dropping her to her knees but instead of rolling she burrows her Face in her arms to keep the heat and the pain away from her face.
She was the last in line and quite a few of the others seem to have made it so yeah a wave of flame, having a mob of ppl jump to the side and the last person in line getting hit - that's a scene straight out of a cartoon.

Choon the Expendable |

Thud obeys. He charges the other trooper, creating his own mini blizzard. When it all settles what was a burning man is suddenly a pile of snow.

Faye Marbray |

Str 44 what could go wrong? He said sarcastically...
Str 44 Test: 1d100 ⇒ 91Naturally. Fail. 4 DoF
Seeing Leni go into, what appears to her as being, shock, Faye attempts to tackle her to the ground to douse the flame... to be continued...
GoW, how will you handle the potential for both parties failing? Nothing happens or a re-rolls until someone wins? Both are book suggestions.

The Ghost of War |

Depending on the amount of DoF you accumulate on the test, this may result in a ... more severe outcome of your attempt to help than just 'It didn't work'.
You'll find out after Leni's roll.
Hint: you are wrestling with someone who is doused in burning promethium ...
Insert hideous laughter of grim gods here

Cmd-Keen Medic |

Str vs 29: 1d100 ⇒ 35 - Failure with no DoF
I honestly don't think Leni would oppose the attempt to tackle tho - while she doesn't have the force of will to act normally her instinct is to get away from the pain which is why she burried her face in her hands - and opposing a quick tackle with strength would require noticing the tackle coming up, then bracing against it to oppose the ~60kg - 70kg of sergeant flying at her.

Celephix |

Celephix considers making some alterations to her lasgun to fire a continual bean to sear the goo away, but the sealed vehicle does not present an immediate threat. They were designed to be sealed in case of gas attacks, so the occupants should not be in danger of suffocating any time soon.
She looks over to see what the flamer's are doing. "That seems problematic..." she mutters, before heading towards them to see if she can be assistance.

The Ghost of War |

Thud'dr simply overwhelms the panicked soldier with his raw mass and musclepower and quickly drenched the flames by virtue of nearly drowning the man in snow. The flamer has lost consciousness as Thud'dr pulls him out of the deep snow again and he is is pale as the dead, but he seems breath at least.
Meanwhile Faye tries the same with Leni, but in her haste to help the medic, she grabs her by the badly burned shoulders and Leni begins to spasm violently under the pain. The burning promethium flames up and endangers Faye as well with it's burning touch.
Both may roll a Agi+10 test. Maybe your 'fight' kills the flame after all! Otherwise you both have the pleasure of being lit on fire and take 1d10 ⇒ 9 damage unmodified by soak and take 1 level of fatigue. But no WP test this round for you, as it is the first round for Faye and Leni doesn't had much choice...

Choon the Expendable |

With the second flamer out of instant danger Thud charges the burning pair of squadmates. To be safe he disregards who's who and attempts to avalanche them both.
Str 61: 1d100 ⇒ 67
Unfortunately, the pair's struggle makes it hard for him to find a good place to hit...

Cmd-Keen Medic |

agi+10 vs 38: 1d100 ⇒ 90 9 damage - going to 5 crit on body
The fury of the attack forces the target to the ground, helplessly covering his face and keening in agony. The target is knocked Prone and must make a Challenging (+0) Agility Test or catch fire (see Special Damage).
The Target must also make a Challenging (+0) Toughness Test or be Stunned for 1 Round.
Which is... exactly what she is already doing. Well on to that toughness test then, not that she's doing anything. Since I guess she can't catch on fire while she's on fire?
Toughness+0 vs 25: 1d100 ⇒ 61
Getting hit in the face by burning prometheum and tacklecharged by her nco and subsequently orgryn squadmate is too much for Leni and she falls limp
Stunned and more stunned seems like a good place to go unconcious for a few rounds
While I'd prefer to get rescued by my squaddies I fear to commissar will have their heads as well if the medic promised to him is taken out by a good idea gone wrong so I'm burning a fate point and hope she gets back up to put herself on stimm to treat the wounded from the other squad

Faye Marbray |

Agi 30+10: 1d100 ⇒ 53yeah, no, I'm on fire now too and back to taking crit damage. 3 to be specific since I was back up to 6 wounds.
Superficial Burns, luckily, with only 1d5 extra fatigue on pg 258.
Fatigue: 1d5 ⇒ 4Surprising no one. I'm now at 5 levels of fatigue...
Edit: Have to take a toughness test now or pass out...
Toughness 46: 1d100 ⇒ 71 I...pass out for 6 minutes (10-TB).
Something about everything that is occurring taxes Fayes system to the brink and she falls unconcious in the snow.

The Ghost of War |

ok then, lets see how to resolve this mess.
By tackling Leni to the ground Faye sets herself ablaze to and with a shriek and a long sight she toppels over unconscious - totally burrowing Leni under her dead-out weight thus quickly killing the flames of the medic and most of herself.
Leni is still concious - anyone can tell by her screaming - but has a dead Sergeant lying on top of her mutilated body - which is not fun.
So: Leni burned a fp to be saved from being burned alive, so no second burning damage and no critical. Faye is out of it and I'll rule that the fire now slowly burns out. So no further damage on you after the last one.
Celephix arrives at Ashoras position, taking the easiest way back through the snow where she passed before.
As the burning in the trenches slowly stops you can see flashes of light from the south. You think it must be gunfire. But its hard to tell with all the screaming reporting in over your combead.

Ashora Kail |

Ashora points out the flashes to the south to Malchior and 'Phix, then switches on her comm-bead. "Sarge, we've got more problems. I'm seeing what looks like a firefight to the south, might be our Commissar needs a hand. Sarge? ....Sarge?"
Fighting down a rising sense of panic, she curses and shoulders her rifle. "S@&$, we need to go find out what the hell is going on, and get this platoon put back together. 'Phix, you look like hell, did you get Doombringer back up to speed?"

Celephix |

"Doombringer is still sealed, but not in immediate danger, the sealing agent seems unresponsive to attempts to remove or slice it, I expect burning it away is the logical solution. I contemplated modifying my rifle to emit a continual beam to burn it away, but was unsure if such a reduction to my combat readiness would be authorised?"

Cmd-Keen Medic |

"Ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch... oh f@*+ that snow feels good... ouch... thanks sarge I'm.. dunno.. but not bad now. You can get off. Sarge? SARGE! ouch... Oh g~@*~@nit"
Pushing Faye off of her vs 29: 1d100 ⇒ 45 -> 1DoF
Oungff... "oh come on." With that she taps her micro bead
"I feel like roast beef and I have a very unconcious sarge on me. Not that I'm against body contact in general but can someone GET HER THE F#@& OFF ME? I should be applying burn salve to just about everyone, starting very much with myself. Oh g%@~#&it ouch..."

Choon the Expendable |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |

That last tirade of curses was from Thud peeling his floppy NCO off his slightly overcooked medic. He puts Sarge on her feet and turns to help Leni. Sarge immediately collapses in a heap causing Thud to jump in alarm and try desperately to set her back up, which gravity refuses to allow. After several attempts at a somewhat vertical NCO Thud gives up (though he looks conflicted in doing so) and gently helps Leni up.
WE GO BACK. SARGE AND FLAMER GUYS BE ALL FLOPPY He explains.
He then gathers the three "floppy" ones in his arms and snowplows his way back toward the makeshift aid tent.

Cmd-Keen Medic |

Leni will actually try to step in after the first attempt to put Faye down standing up
"Oh for f*$@s sake DON'T. I'll have my hands full patching her back up without adding more blunt injuries from toppling over. I aggree on going back tho, just make sure to go EXACTLY the way we came. No need to find more mines now."
She'll grab Fayes micro bead, but also registering what 'Phix said she answers on the squad net: "Sarge is out for now Phix so technically you're not required to follow my instructions but if you tinker with your Lasgun and get ambushed without your G%@##!N primary weapon then I'll stitch whatever they hack off back on the wrong way. So unless you have some fire support you can take that as a no."
Not waiting for a reply she takes Fayes micro bead and reports on the command channel: "Commissar, this is medic Tivnan. My sergeant as well as two others are out cold due to a mine explosion. Requesting permission to fall back to our bunker and await you there."
While talking she is already quick checking the vital signs of all the 'Floppies' around here.

The Ghost of War |

All three are in dire need of medical help. Faye less than the other guards, you may bring her to her feet with some stims. The one who was quickly covered in snow by Thud'dr looks bad but not closer to death than Faye or yourself. The one Thud'dr tackled last, looks much worse. A quick guess gives an estimated 50-70% portion of his body is covered with 3rd level degree burns. Your triage teaching tells you that he will not life, if not for extended, professional and immediate treatment which should be denied if the target is not of major importance or supplies are short in favor of quick administration of the Emperor's mercy delivered by a priest.
Vox:
You hear gunfire, deep roaring and clashing of steel in the background
A tiny, weak voice whispers into the vox: "...ambush in the passage ... Ogryns gone wild with fear ... commissar down ... maybe dead. Comrade killed ... cannot hold ... 'em off ... longer ... the strain ..."
Celephix and Ashora reach the badly damaged group as the voice on the vox starts to fade away and Leni just finished her inspection of the wounded lying around her.

Cmd-Keen Medic |

"Sigh. Just wanted to see a bit more of the galaxy. Oh whatever. Thud. No going back, put them down right here."
Leni grabs the Stimm from the Medkit and injects Faye with it before turning to the others.
"Alright things have turned to s!*&. We need to get to the tunnel if we want to hold the line. Did I mention they'll probably shoot us if we don't hold the line? So Thud on point, both Phix and Ashora 10m behind him, left and right flank. Slow advance ready to open fire. Overload settings. If anything moves that is not instantly obviously a greenskin ask for the codeword and wait 5 seconds. Stay away from any snow that looks even slightly disturbed. I'll be with you in half a minute but Sarge should be up and with you by then. Go up to the tunnel entrance but not inside. And use your presense googles well, they should stick out like a sore thumb against the snow."
What happend to our old storm trooper guy? Wasn't he with Ashora and Phix?
No first aid for Faye, only once per 24h =(
She make one last call before hanging fayes micro bead back aroud fayes neck and starting the treatment: "If anyone has a vox caster in range inform command that squad 2 on the southern approach is down to about 5 effectives give or take and the commissars squad was ambushed and is MiA. It is likely that some of those purple m*%*!*$#$$*~s have made it past us."
First aid on herself vs 88: 1d100 ⇒ 76 1DoS -> +6 Hp
She first treats herself - which pretty much looks like diving headfirst into the burn salve before using her armor and uniform jacket once more to make a small spot shielded off from the elements to take care of the criticaly wounded. Then she starts shouting at Aubray for various things while frantically working on the wounded, ranging from sisscors to cut the burned uniforms to patches of bandage with burn salve on one side
On the VERY wounded vs 88 - 10 per Crit: 1d100 ⇒ 37 so success for up to 5 crit damage, otherwise the damage will probably kill him right away.
First aid on the not so wounded flame trooper: 1d100 ⇒ 44 success for up to 4 crit damage removing 5 damage + 1 per DoS
She will not administer the emperors grace, that's not up to her. But if she feels like she's losing one of them she will have the injector prepared with tranq mixed with painkiller to ease their passing.

Ashora Kail |

"Ask for codeword and wait two seconds, got it!" Flipping her rifle to overcharge, Ashora's face sets in a grim line as she looks at the battered remnants of her squad. We've only been here a day and an half...
Moving behind Thud, she keeps her eyes peeled for any sign of movement in the darkness. Awareness vs 30: 1d100 ⇒ 10

"What in the Emperor's name just happened to me and what the feth is going on!?"
And Faye struggles to her feet. Today is not her day.
Faye is still down for a total of 6 minutes...

The Ghost of War |

Leni is able to stabilize both her patents, although the first trooper (the badly wounded one) challenges her knowledge and available resources and time greatly. She does what she can, but as she turns to her next patient isn't sure he will live to see the next morning.
Then the groups pick itself up, walking carefully towards the tunnel connecting the two trenchlines. Thud'dr in the front, stomping through the trench with eyes looking into the far distance, obviously half asleep from exhaustion and the damage his body has taken.
Ashora and Celephix walking slighlty behind on ether side of the trenchline, giving the 'Big-Un' cover. The rest of the remaining guards follow several meters behind Thud'dr consisting of the huge force of five soldiers: the slightly faltering Faye, crispy Leni, two privates by the name of White and Ley and the last grumpy Storm Trooper everyone seems to calls 'Grumps' - if out of earshot.
Once during the short, nervous travel Ashora is able to spot a suspicious heap of snow and some metallic shine a few meters in front of Thud'dr and she carefully direct the group around it.
As you close the tunnel, you can now hear the grunting and clashing of steel you know to be the sound of a melee and see dancing blue and white eldritch lights you have no idea what its source may be. Beside the occasional flickering of the mysterious light, the tunnel is pitch black. You can see several large heat signatures intertwined in a swirling fight and a massive heat bubble some distance behind the melee you cannot even guess what it means.

"Easy there sarge. We hit gold... or more likely metal with the flamers and something went bang. Not totally sure what happened after that but when the pain stopped I had you lying on top of me so you either crashed on me while flailing around in the fire or you had a spontanous need to cuddleglomp me. Either way I'm not complaining.
Aubray, cut that matching this burn.
I borrowed your bead to make some calls. The commissars group has been ambushed in the tunnel so I sent Thud, Ashora and Phix to help and put out a request for command to be informed that we're down to like 5 effectives, the commissars group to be MiA and that some of those weird purple monsters probably got past us. Not sure if anyone with a vox caster was in range to hear the request tho.
To sum it up, I tried to manage things so you have a moment to catch your breath but you should probably get going and direct the others soon - you're on stimm and it'll be a b*@~% once that wears off - or the second dose does"
She throws her Injector to Faye, now filled with stimm.
Just put it against your arm and hit the button if you feel your current dose wearing off and things are still in the s+$%. I'm coming after you once I finally get that g@@@$%n armor on. Aubray stays here and takes care of the 2 wounded.
With that she starts putting on her armor while constantlly telling Aubray what to do Using Medicae Auxilia Comrade advance to start prolonged treatment on the 2 flame troopers while putting on her armor, then following the others.
