My recollection, faulty as it may be considering how long it has been since I last read any of the books, was that about once or twice a century the Targaryens sired a real monster & wound up spending the following generation cleaning things up.
Inbreeding/Eugenics is one of those 'really iffy' sorts of things. If you are willing to be very ruthless in culling the defective specimens, you can achieve some quite impressive results...
As long as you are fortunate enough to not get defects that are hidden until after the individuals in question breed. A lot of really crippling mental/physical defects don't become inescapably apparent until later in life...
By which point in time, the individual has managed to acquire a whole passel of hangers-on whose own livelihood is tied to 'their' Targaryen & who consequently have a vested interest in keeping that one around & in power, barking-mad or no. Hell, in a lot of cases, the 'King' being barking-mad is considered a feature...
Korran; Am I correct in considering that you have been Maester for House Azaryen for at least as long as Beatriz has been alive? If so, have you read the rest of her sheet, particularly the history I've hinted at in her Personality? Any discontinuities with your own history?

True. But is lying to follow the path you truly want to follow really pretending to be something your not or is it a means to get to where you were meant to be?
And wow that seems to be in the same vein as...
"In a room sit three great men, a king, a priest, and a rch man with his gold. Between them stands a sellsword, a little man of common birth and no great mind. Each of the great ones bids him slay the other two. 'Do it,' says the king, 'for I am your lawful ruler.' 'Do it,' says the priest, 'for I command you in the names of the gods.' 'Do it,' says the rich man, 'and all this gold shall be yours.' So tell me- who lives and who dies?

Mmm...Korran's probably been around for at least half of Beatriz's life. I envisioned him as a gawky young teenager on the cusp of becoming a man legally when the Rebellion broke out, but that he didn't actually become a Maester until a bit later in life, and that he fairly blazed through the education and trials because he's something of a prodigy where sheer knowledge is concerned.
The rules don't quite let me model his colorful past but I figured it made sense that his unused skills from the war days would atrophy. So how long he's been Maester to the House and teaching the heiress would probably depend on how long she's been alive. Korran's just about to turn 31, and I figure he's been a Maester for at least six years if not more. Exact number TBD.

Beatriz Azaryen. Leader.
Errin Shadowater. Schemer/Rogue.
Maester Korran. Expert.
Rhys Thyryn. Rogue.
Did I miss anyone's Character? Did I put down the wrong role?
If someone else wants to play a Schemer I can build me a Warrior.

Just thought it would be interesting to post up a picture for my PC... Or at least the closest I could find.
Errin Shadowater in his Traveler's Garb.
If you want to post up a detailed description of your character I might have a fitting Image in my massive Collection or could find one for you.

While we are waiting for this...
Please know that I am willing to run a Prequel Adventure using the Archetypes.
Irnk, Dead-Eye's Prodigal
I too would very much like to get gameplay started.
For future reference, Friday afternoon/evening/night(s) are likely to be a time when I have less computer activity for a while, so if we get into a rapid flow session & I haven't posted during that time, feel free to 'bot' me Wandslinger.

I think we are still waiting on Michaelane and CromoftheBloodhammer...
Feel free to swing by mine. As I am waiting on some players to actually start... I have one but he seems slow to start.
My other game has ended with...
-42 PC Deaths.
-69 Primary NC Deaths.
-100+ Other NC Deaths.
-150+ Warfare Units destroyed/routed/etc.
Totally altered the story. Numerous times.
Azaelas Fayth
Not what I meant... But you also need to add in my Weapons. Total is 17 if I don't attack. If I attack then I will be at 15.
What I mean is Why I chose to get it so high.
That is the Combat System favors the Hard to hit. Armour is Handy but so far the Best Defense seems to get your Defense up as high as possible.
Our other 5 Campaigns are getting interesting as we have already had a massive turn over of PCs. Our all Knight Party lasted 3 Combats and then we were either Dead or so badly injured/wounded it was ridiculous. So far my Fencing-Based Knight has been the least hurt. As I have only ever taken 1 Wound.

Got called to work extra hours this weekend, sorry. Monday I should have it up. Hopefully it pleases. I've never been the best homebrewer.
I'll work in crom and michaelane whenever they appear.
If I knew this system better, I would make alterations to allow heavy armor to more appropriately rule the battlefield, but for now I'll leave it as is.
Azaelas Fayth
Simply do what most others do and add in a "Reduce Armour Penalty by 1" clause to Armour Mastery & Improved Armour Mastery. And maybe change IAM to just Double Armour Mastery's Benefits. Maybe create a "Greater Armour Mastery" that increases them to Triple.
That is what we done. Our new knight is a literal Tank...
P.S.: If you want I would be more than willing to sit back and run some NC's and such.

Again, that is the sort of thing that gets expensive...
Consequently, it is the sort of thing the big Houses can do more than the minor houses such as ourselves. Assuming we survive long enough to build our Power more it is something to consider however.
Personally, after reading the Rules in more detail, I would prefer our next Military purchase to be a unit of Warships since we have defined ourselves as using the River as our primary means of contact with the rest of Westeros & technically we have no means of defending/controlling our access to same. Historically, that winds up biting you on the butt.
Azaelas Fayth
River, Pond, and Lake all Allow Warships.
And it isn't as expensive as you think. After all You only pay for a single Training then the 2 Training Types.
So lets say Trained Garrison Archers. That is 8 Power. Having a Trained Garrison & Trained Archers is a total of 11 Power. It makes more sense for a Minor House to have a better Trained Versatile Unit rather than multiple Specialized Units. It means they have less People tied up with Warfare and means they can focus their attention on fewer men and have less space taken up by Barracks.
For 10 Power we could instead get Veteran Garrison Archers. If we instead spend 12 then it becomes Elite Garrison Archers. Though the only advantage that gives is Easier usage outside our own lands.

Dawn greets the walls of Greystone Keep with its golden light as preparations begin for the celebration of Lord Azaryen's 45th nameday. Given their Lord's dour demeanor at the best of times, it came as somewhat of a surprise to hear his announcement that a celebration would be held at all. Still, the smallfolk will take any chance to rejoice in pleasure than slave in the fields.
We finally begin! Give me a general description of your activities leading up to this day.
