Masumi there is sudden movement behind you but can't catch up to Akio to prevent him from running away. Hajime as Akio dashes by you just aren't quick enough to stop him. Akio the floor under you swings open and blackness takes you to the bottom.

You land with a giant thud on stone flooring. Fortunately, you can make out a few rough gouge marks that could assist with the climb.

Looking down at Akio, Calm yourself, man. You have caused yourself more harm that anything in this place. What is the situation down there?

Once Akio lands, he curls himself into a ball in the corner. Eventually, though, his senses return and he is better able to handle the situation.

"Sorry...not sure what came over me. I'm...better now. I can't see much in the way of details...it looks like I could climb out, perhaps."

Akio's torch lays next to him as he is on the ground. He is able to toss it back out of the hole before he begins climbing, along with his spear.

Masumi and the others are able to walk the circumference of the inner wall with out incident. You see three openings on the inside all with stairwells. The one directly opposite where you exited the tomb leads down towards the tomb. The two on the other walls lead upward. There are no traps on the inside wall

Sharing his musings, This should bring us up on top of that symbol for "shogunate". We need clothes, tools.

Up the nearest stairs Masumi goes, checking for spear traps and loose steps and everything else.

Masumi you do not see a trap on the stairwell heading up E12, but you remember there is a secret door on an outerwall. As you climb the stairs you notice there is solid wall at the top.

"Last I saw of him was when he went around the corner. Did he disappear? Did he fall into another pit perhaps?"

Kichiro looking at the wall across from the stairs Masumi climbed finds a secret seam to a doorway. Is this the second doorway the party has found on the exterior walls.

"I really think that we should explore this whole level before we move on to a next one though. We came from an underground chamber, so perhaps this is the ground floor now and there could be a door leading to the outside on it."

By level, you must mean "height" or "vertical"... what if we think concentric. What if moving away is another level and staying to the core... Never mind.

I am merely frustrated, why would you place stairs leading to a solid wall?
