Easy fix in Mirandir's case. I'll knock the 45 off his stash when I get back to the computer with Herolab.

Dropped Cold-weather outfit, 30 halfling trail rations, and all my cash to get to 105 gp.

I had initially assumed since you stated "Standard" that it would be the standard rolled starting cash. No problem.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It might be fun (for those of us who would like to do so) to respond in character to the "smartly turned out man" interviewing us job applicants. In this way, our GM could also have a sample character post to consider when making selections.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Profession (Porter): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

Hey, GM ...only if you like the idea ...
What does the interviewer look like?
What might his role on the ship be?
What is his general attitude?
Does he ask us about our skills and experience, or what?
Thanks!

EDIT: Whoa! With those rolls, I could probably figure out a lot about this guy....

EDIT2: Also, GM and fellow player hopefuls, just in case you haven't seen this collection of Pathfinder pirate-type resources, check it out! :)

EDIT3: Finally, GM, I was wondering, what city are we starting in, and what languages are commonly spoken there? Sorry for all the questions! If they're a bother, feel free to ignore them!

Oddly, somehow I didn't have the file saved in HeroLab, so I took the oppurtunity to mess with the gear a bit anyway. Only the gear changed, everything else is the same (I think).

Ok, I have updated Salty, including equipment (105 gp spent):
"Salty" Valaravans

Description:
This 25 years-old Half-Orc does make an impression. A pair of formidable tusks protrude from his face, and his greenish muscles bulge below the simple sailor clothes he wears. He smells like sweat, but there is something nice about his smell. He smells like food. Fulfilling, tasty food.

Reason to go sailing:
Valaravans was born in a far away land, and his love for the sea, and his quest for the next cooking recipe, has made him travel far and wide, and now he only recognizes the sea as his home.
A cook by profession, and an Alchemist by trade, he is always looking for that new spice or flavor that can change his day into something special... really special.
Because, what can be more magical that eat or drink something into our bodies, that gives us strength, endurance, happiness, even life itself?

3 words to describe you character:
Sailors, Chow Time!

Drawback: Prideful:
You will not accept any affront to your character or work (or food you prepared) this will cause you to become argumentative or maybe violent (WARNING: HE BITES!).

Sample RP:
While the others went looking for treasure, Valaravans remained on the sandy beach, examining the giant crab remains.
He took out his drill and knife and started opening the shells, peeking inside with knowledge not only in anatomy, but also in cooking.
He started taking the best cuts for later, he separated the tasty bits from the viscera, and made sure to get all the possible meat from the dead crustaceans, washing and salting it in seawater to keep it from spoiling.
In his mind he was thinking in the possibilities for breakfast. Raw with lemon juice? Covered in flour and deep fried? Garlic-laced and broiled?
So many options.
After getting all the meat he proceeded to take the eyes, the claws and several parts of the carapace. Who knows which kind of alchemical potions he would be able to concoction? Potions to see underwater with ease? An lotion to harden the skin? An elixir to restore teeth to toothless seaman?
His nose, before his ears or eyes, let him know something was wrong. Smell to sweat, to fear. Smell of blood.
He looked up at his companions, running from a big ugly creature, four legged and with horns, chasing them.
He quickly dropped his stuff, and drank to vials from his bandanna. At once his body started to grow and mutate, reaching 9' of height, while a double row of razor sharp teeth protruded from his mouth and claws appeared from his hands. A dorsal fin appeared on his back, and his feet became big and webbed.
He had turn in his alter ego, the big half shark monster, "Sour" Valaravans.
He roared at the creature, and ran to face it.
It was time to get the ingredients for dinner.

SPECIAL ABILITIES
Accelerated Drinker You know how to drink a potion efficiently, such as by not using your hands, tossing it in the air and catching it in your mouth, or opening it with your teeth. You may drink a potion as a move action instead of a standard as long as you start your turn with the potion in your hand.
Alchemy (Su) When using Craft (Alchemy) to create an alchemical item, you gains a +1 competence bonus on the Craft (alchemy) check. In addition, you can use Craft (Alchemy) to identify potions as if using Detect Magic. He must hold the potion for 1 round to make such a check.
Brew Potion (Ex) You receive Brew Potion as a bonus feat. You can brew potions of any formulae you know (up to 3rd level), using your alchemist level as caster level. The spell must be one that can be made into a potion. You do not need to meet the prerequisites for this feat.
Darkvision (Ex) Range 60 ft.; Darkvision is the extraordinary ability to see with no light source at all, out to a range specified for the creature. Darkvision is black and white only (colors cannot be discerned). It does not allow characters to see anything that they could not see otherwise-invisible objects are still invisible, and illusions are still visible as what they seem to be. Likewise, darkvision subjects a creature to gaze attacks normally. The presence of light does not spoil darkvision.
Discoveries The following discoveries complement the beastmorph archetype - feral mutagen, grand mutagen, greater mutagen, infuse mutagen, mummification**, spontaneous healing**, tentacle**, and wings**.
Humanoid Traits (Ex) Humanoids breathe, eat, and sleep.
Indomitable Faith You were born in a region where your faith was not popular, yet you never abandoned it. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Will saves as a result.
Mutagen (Su) You know how to create a mutagen that you can imbibe in order to heighten your physical prowess at the cost of your personality. It takes 1 hour to brew a dose of mutagen, and once brewed, it remains potent until used. You can only maintain one dose of mutagen at a time - if you brews a second dose, any existing mutagen becomes inert. A mutagen that is not in your possession becomes inert until an alchemist picks it up again. When you brew a mutagen, you select one physical ability score - either Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution. It's a standard action to drink a mutagen. Upon being imbibed, the mutagen causes you to grow bulkier and more bestial, granting you a +2 natural armor bonus and a +4 alchemical bonus to the selected ability score for 10 minutes. In addition, while the mutagen is in effect, you take a -2 penalty to one of your mental ability scores. If the mutagen enhances your Strength, it applies a penalty to your Intelligence. If it enhances your Dexterity, it applies a penalty to your Wisdom. If it enhances your Constitution, it applies a penalty to your Charisma. A non-alchemist who drinks a mutagen must make a DC 13 Fortitude save or become nauseated for 1 hour - a non-alchemist can never gain the benefit of a mutagen, but an alchemist can gain the effects of another alchemist's mutagen if he drinks it. (Although if the other alchemist creates a different mutagen, the effects of the "stolen" mutagen immediately cease.) The effects of a mutagen do not stack. Whenever an alchemist drinks a mutagen, the effects of any previous mutagen immediately end.
Mutagen (Prime Stat Selection)
Mutagen (Second Stat Selection)
Mutagen (Third Stat Selection)
Orc Blood (Ex) Half-orc count as both humans and orcs for any effect related to race.
Scavenger Some half-orcs eke out a leaving picking over the garbage heaps of society, and must learn to separate rare finds from the inevitable dross. Half-orcs with this racial trait receive a +2 racial bonus on Appraise checks and on Perception checks to find hidden objects (including traps and secret doors), determine if food is spoiled, or identify a potion by taste. This racial trait replaces the intimidating racial trait.
Sneak Attack (Ex) If you can catch an opponent when he is unable to defend himself effectively from your attack, you can strike a vital spot for extra damage. Your attack deals 1d6 points of extra damage anytime your target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC, or when you flank your target. Should you score a critical hit with a sneak attack, this extra damage is not multiplied. Ranged attacks can count as sneak attacks only if the target is within 30 feet. With a weapon that deals nonlethal damage, you can make a sneak attack that deals nonlethal damage instead of lethal damage. You cannot use a weapon that deals lethal damage to deal nonlethal damage in a sneak attack, not even with the usual -4 penalty. You must be able to see the target well enough to pick out a vital spot and must be able to reach such a spot. You cannot sneak attack while striking a creature with concealment.
Sneak Attack (Ex) At 1st level, a vivisectionist gains the sneak attack ability as a rogue of the same level. If a character already has sneak attack from another class, the levels from the classes that grant sneak attack stack to determine the effective rogue level for the sneak attack's extra damage dice (so an alchemist 1/rogue 1 has a +1d6 sneak attack like a 2nd-level rogue, an alchemist 2/rogue 1 has a +2d6 sneak attack like a 3rd-level rogue, and so on). This ability replaces bomb.
Throw Anything (Ex) You gain the Throw Anything feat as a bonus feat. You add your Intelligence modifier to damage done with splash weapons, including the splash damage if any. This bonus damage is already included in the bomb class feature.
Toothy Some half-orcs' vestigial tusks are massive and sharp, granting a bite attack. This is a primary natural attack that deals 1d4 points of piercing damage. This racial trait replaces the orc ferocity racial trait.
Weapon Familiarity (Ex) Half-orcs are proficient with greataxes and falchions, and treat any weapon with the word "orc" in its name as a martial weapon.

Put together a sheet for Pippne, with the Pessimist drawback

2 people marked this as a favorite.

@Joan: Questions relating to the desk guy will be answered shortly.

You are in a large harbour town called Journey's Rest. The town itself is almost purely given over to maritime commerce. Taverns, houses and shops are all positioned as closely as possible to the waterfront. The quay you stand on is cobbled and stone lined. The town is clearly affluent. Whilst in a human province the town is quite cosmopolitan so no one looks out of place not even the half-orcs.

For those wishing to RP in the recruitment thread (purely optional):
...The crowd has formed into a rough queue before a desk where a smartly turned out man sits and questions potential applicants one by one. The mood is generally jovial. Loose groups have formed in some places along the line with their occupants joking and telling stories. You flinch reflexively as a hand is placed on your shoulder.

“Ahoy Shipmate fancy a drink? Its bloody cold out here.” He holds a waterskin out in your direction although you are confident that its contents are not water. ”Name’s Errol, by the way if you make crew come and see me for a game of dice ok?” You regard the cheery man; Errol appears to be a dark skinned human wearing a stripy shirt with torn sleeves. He has a myriad of tattoos, cut off trousers and lose fitting boots with no laces in them. A voice interrupts you from across the quay...

”Come on Mr Oaks leave the line alone you don’t know where it’s been.” The voice belongs to a gnome dressed in a similar smart fashion to the man at the desk, with him are two scruffy looking humans.

”Right you are Mr Gleambright, Right you are”. and with that Errol gives you a wink and runs along to join the shore party.

Now you stand facing several other bewildered hopefuls...

converse with each other but keep rolls to an absolute minimum please.

Elenia stands in the queue with a old, battered rucksack over her back and a much less battered waterproof bag on the floor between her feet. She stands in the queue hunched over somewhat, with her head focused on the book between her hands. It is a book with a fairly non descript cover, which appears to have well thumbed pages.

After being tapped on the shoulder by Errol... Elenia tucks her book away in the waterproof bag, turns around and mutters: "He can keep his germs to himself..."

At Joan Porter.
As she turns around she sees a human dressed in leather armour with long brown hair and tanned skin. Elenia looks at the woman's cutlass and sword and says "Expecting pirates are we?"

Nayli looks at the pale elven woman standing nearby, taking in her ebony hair and pretty (and cool-looking) robes. She adjusts her own crimson hair beneath her hat, feeling the sweat and wishing, not for the first time, that she'd chosen to wear something lighter than her leather and quilted-cotton jack.

As the shipmate's big hand falls on her slim shoulder, she flinches, one hand shooting up to grasp his and the other falling to her whip hanging from her belt. Whirling, her glare quickly turns to a smile and her grip on his hand softens. I wonder what those tattoos mean, and where he got them... Before she can ask, though, Errol is called away by a bossy, pushy little gnome and she's left in the crowd again.

For a moment, Nayli thinks back to Allisandre and the temple, and her fingers trace the wasp-sting blades on the tips of her whip. Her thoughts drift to the justification that's brought her this far from home. She deserved it. I did right by the Sting. I had to, after she humiliated me like that, and in front of the others. I was right to leave too. Vengeance doesn't always need to be as easy as mine was, and Allisandre should have a difficult time with hers. She's jerked from her internal monologue as the elven woman speaks. "Pirates? No, but the journey here was long and...oh..." She flushes, realizing she wasn't being spoken to at all, and turns her eyes away, staring determinedly at the rest of the crowd.

When, Errol stops by, placing hands on the shoulders of the two women standing near Joan and offering a future game of dice, Joan gives her best charming smile and responds,

"Sounds fun!"

Once Errol is called away, however, Joan sighs and rolls her eyes at the two other women, muttering softly.

"The voyage hasn't even started, and already he can't keep his hands to himself. Men. Am I right? It looks and smells like he hasn't washed his hair in a decade..."

She turns and flashes a winning grin at the gnome with authority, calling out,

"Thank you, Mr. Gleambright!"

Turning back to the line, she complains conspiratorially,

"Well, it looks like we'll be taking orders from Mr. Bossy Half-Pint there."

When the turquoise-robed half-elf asks her a question about expecting pirates, Joan opens her mouth to respond, then arches a single eyebrow at the red-haired whip-wielder's somewhat bizarre interruption.

"Okay then."

Turning back to the half-elf, Joan offers a friendly hand to shake.

"One should always be prepared for anything. Pirates on the high-seas are a definite possibility.
My name's Joan. I'm applying for the Porter position. You look more like the clerk type, right? So, we shouldn't be in direct competition. Might as well get to be friends.
"

She generously offers a hand in the nervous red-head's direction to include her in the conversation as well.

"If we're all chosen, it'll be nice not to be surrounded entirely by men on the ship, for once. As far as I can tell, we're the only women in this line. Except maybe that ugly little halfling over there. Not sure if it's a girl or boy. Maybe a mix of both. But, at any rate, we should stick together, and look out for each other."

Great, now they're getting chatty.

Mirandir was getting annoyed at the fact that they were apparently about to be kept waiting even longer. In fact he was quite annoyed that he hadn't been picked for a crew already and it was beginning to show on his face. While his loose fitting blue tunic and leather pants were crisp and unworn, that was about the only thing about him that didn't look battered and weathered. Though young for an elf, his skin and hair were clearly showing the signs of someone who'd worked the water for several decades. Because he had, and it was growing clear none of the others had.

He fidgeted with his half showing symbol of Gozreh as he tried to keep any obvious disdain off his face for the time being. The elf didn't want to get turned away again for being an "arrogant pointed eared bastard who clearly wants to depress everyone". But at the same time he couldn't help but wonder if these people knew what they were getting into. This Joan person, she clearly looks like she's been on a ship before, but appears to be having way too much fun. She knows life at sea can be hard but...

Mirandir realized where he was going with this line of thought and stopped. He had to at least keep it together long enough to make this ship. Then he could show them how cruel the sea really was, or they'd learn for themselves.

"Pleasure to meet all of you. I'm known as Mirandir"

One tall half orc approaches the group, and licks his protruding tusks.
"Well met. I hope this gets over soon, and we can embark. I have been on land for too long, and I miss the sea."
He eyes the women.
"You sure you want to join the crew? Women are back luck at sea."
He grabs something from his backpack and offers it to you. It looks like fried potato bars, but smells different.
"A new recipe. A tuber deep fried with salt and pepper. It is good for the stamina. What is it called? Yucca."
His mouth moves in a weird way. You could think he is smiling proudly, but with those tusks in the way, it's hard to read his facial expressions.

Only 2 days left to go

Have a good one

poor Errol.

Elenia reaches for Joan's hand and shakes it. "I'm applying for the clerk position ... but don't worry - you wouldn't be any competition anyway. You are right though about females watching out for one another - only 3... She turns to look at the ugly little halfing described by Joan and turns back to the group "Well maybe 4 out of a whole crowd of us here isn't much"

She then turns to Nayli saying ... "A long journey to get here has taken its toll on you. You look uncomfortable."

She turns to include Mirandir in the group - "My name is Elenia. I'm looking forward to this opportunity. You look like you know something of the sea ... Mirandir."

Turning to the tall, tusked orc... "Salty - how nice. You made something for the trip? I don't believe women, men or orcs are bad luck at sea. Elenia then reaches out to try some of the Yukka.

"And on the trip. I am a ship cook. Hope you like it."
The half orc eyes you with hungry eyes.
"You are right. Maybe it is a good idea to have women on board."

When Elenia makes the comment about Joan not being any competition for her, Joan's eyes narrow slightly, but she maintains her friendly smile.

When Mirandir introduces himself, Joan turns to offer the elf a grin and a handshake.

"Joan. A pleasure."

When the half-orc lumbers up and proclaims women on ships to be bad luck, Joan responds,

"Oh, I don't know about that. Some sailors will tell you that when they let women on board they get lucky."

She gives him a good-natured wink, then displays interest in the aromatic potato bars, accepting what's offered, and giving it a sniff and a taste.

"Thanks! This is delicious!"

"I have no experience aboard ship, but I know my knots. From...a former profession. I'm hoping to be taken on as a seawoman, since I don't have the experience for most of the other jobs."

Nayli looks at Elenia, shooting her a wide smile, and only then realizes that her hand is back in her hair again. "Yes, miss. My home was much cooler than this, though the temple was always kept warm. Alas, I haven't had the time to shop for more suitable clothing, and the majority of what I brought is quite...inappropriate for use outside the temple." She offers her non-sweaty hand to the elf woman. "Nayli Belequa, defender of the faith. It's a pleasure to meet you." She looks once again at the diaphanous robe, a sigh of envy escaping her lips, and loosens the straps holding her armor to her torso, allowing a small amount of air to circulate.

The half-orc's approach draws a snort. "Bad luck? It'd be far, far worse for that dandy in the sharp clothing not to take me aboard, believe me." She shakes a little bag around her neck, producing a rattling sound, and cautiously reaches for one of the fried yuccas. she sticks out her tongue to taste it, then pops it into her mouth. She's reaching for another one when the half-orc starts looking at Elenia. Immediately, her hand starts drifting to the whip handle again. "Sir, you will treat her with respect and courtesy or I'll have your hide." Or at least a little finger. She continues, moving her hand from her weapon and moving closer to the big half-orc. She stands on her toes to whisper a few words into his ear. "Besides, there are some here who are more willing than others. Give me your ear for a few hours, and it may be my gospel is pleasing to you." Withdrawing back to the other women, she nods at Elenia, the hint of a smile on her face but none in her eyes.

The half orc grins (or something close to it) and licks his tusks.
"I am glad you like it. And is good for you! Makes you tough! And yes, I wouldn't mind getting lucky sometimes..."
He stays lost in thought for a second, and then he realizes he is daydreaming, and quickly turns to Mirandir.
"Here! Try it! It is yummy!"
After that he mumbles to himself.
"Too long in the coast. Need to get to sea..."

Shadow Lodge

No alias yet, but if you don't remember I'm Barin the dwarf.
Edit: Wow, when I printed that just now I realized how much it looked like Balin. Not my fault, I swear.

"Hmph. All this one-sided talk's makin' me hungry," the dwarf quips, taking a piece of the potato bars and popping it in his mouth. He washes it down with a huge swig of Dwarven ale and laughs. "Tryin' to get the elf to talk, eh? You're a bold 'un for sure, I think we'll get along, dishes like these! So, before their fight gets off th' ground, who else's had sailin' experience afore?"

Valaravans turns to see Nayli. he snorts when she tells about the "Dandy in sharp clothing".
"Don't know about 'respect' and 'courtesy', but I think I will be very interested in your gospel. Maybe we can exchange recipes some night."
He his on his feet enthusiastically, while licking his tusks noisily with his tongue. Then he stop, sniffs closer to her, and puts a questioning look.
"You smell like honey..."

Clarification: The dandy in the sharp clothing is the one interviewing people.

Yellowjackets! Of course he'd smell it, he's a cook. Nayli had just gotten into Journey's Rest this morning, and she'd used the last of her perfume to try hiding the mucky stink of the road.

She looks the half-orc up and down, eyes half-covered by their eyelids, and adjusts her hat. "Aye, that I do. Honey and sweat. Acolytes of Calistria should always smell sweet, even when they shouldn't." She shudders, remembering that Allisandre was the one who'd said that, and grabs the little pouch again. After a moment she calms down again and looks him in the eye. "I don't preach for the nameless, even if they do cook a decent meal. Love the food, not the chef, as she would say. And you'd best be interested in my words too, or there won't be many recipes to exchange."

She fidgets in the sun, wanting, but unable, to pull off her jacket.

"Salty" laughs...
"My name, of course. Valaravans, the cook. But people often calls me 'Salty'. I am not much for words. But I have some other things on my favor."
He eyes the Varisian woman lustily while licking his tusks.

"Salty" half-kneels in front of the dwarf.
"I am not sure they are recruiting stools on this trip, dwarf. And I am not sure dwarfs float when throw into the sea. Maybe mines are better suited for you. About sailing, I am only comfortable when away on the waves. I don't quite like sights and smells of the coast."

Sheet updated

Anyone care for a laid back, surfer dude aquatic druid with an orca companion?

When the dwarf asks who else has had sailing experience before, Joan raises both an eyebrow and her hand.

She glances around, figuring pretty much everyone else there will also be answering in the affirmative, then gets distracted when the half-orc cook kneels in front of the dwarf.

Her other eyebrow shoots up to join the first one when the half-orc insults the dwarf to his face. Harsh.

She instinctively takes a half-step back in case the dwarf's response is a violent one.

Shadow Lodge

Barin spits on the ground. "Tchah! If'n they don't require stool, what're you doin' here, seein' as you don't produce much else useful? Eh? I was willin' ta get along with ye, and this is how I get treated. I reckon you'd float well, you're full of hot air." He levitates another yucca to him, eats it, and heaves the platter across the dock. "And if'n ye insult me again, you'll pay with your life." his accent grows more pronounced as his temper grows, and he stands still, waiting for a retort. His beard bristles, his tattoos glow, and white light grows around his clenched fists.

"Ha!"
Valaravans makes a gesture that can be a challenge or a congratulation.
"I do float, and it would take more than a dwarf to make me pay an insult. I thought dwarfs had a thicker skin."

Suddenly thankful for the sweltering heat in her armor, Nayli drops her bag and takes a few steps away from the dwarf and half-orc. As she moves away, her demeanor shifts from a bit playful to serious, and frustrated. Undoing the release on her whip, she grabs the handle and lets its tails rest on the ground near her feet. "Now, now, boys. I'm just as much one for avenging insults against me as you, but it seems to me that killing each other on the quay gets neither of you on board that ship. More importantly, it doesn't get me aboard, since the fool at the desk will have questions about what happened, and I must be aboard before that hag catches up with me."

Oh dear...you prideful idiots...

Shadow Lodge

"Watch it, miss, your words be good but I ain't lettin' this go just yet." Barin turns back to Valaravans. "Most of us do have a thick skin, but I don't see any reason to have to put up with an abomination like you. Easier n' more efficient this way. And here I was, thinkin' ye had a shred o' dignity left. I'm startin' to think I'm wrong, so prove me right. We'll save this until the crew's picked."

Valaravans just smile, and sees the dwarf go.
"You are right, Varisian. Killing the dwarf would make a bad impression to the ship master. And they are not good to eat. And I have to learn to control my temper. Now, about that gospels..."

Joan exhales audibly as the tension diffuses, steps closer to Elenia and Mirandir, and shakes her head, giving them a look to indicate: Geez. Some people!

"Anyway ... I've certainly spent plenty years at sea, and I'm supposing you have, too, Mirandir. Am I right?
How about you, Elenia? Done much clerking on ships before?
"

Silver Crusade

I will be changing my class, instead of Two weapon warrior I'll be going bard (sea singer). It fits the theme better, and, honestly, the character I have in my mind better.

Oh, man the stout caps'n an' heave with a will,

Soon we'll be drivin' her 'way up the hill.
To be rollickin' Randy Dandy-Oh

You all hear the loud, sing-song voice shout up from above and
as you look up a smiling man looks down from on the ship and you can hear someone shouting for him to get down from there

Ahoy Laddies! My Names Derrick, swordsman, singer, sailor, and entertainer. I hope to be makin' this trip with the lot of ye! Aahah!

After several more shouts, you see him shrug and watch as he makes his way down the ship through some acrobatics tricks, and walks up to each of you in turn, offering his hand. On his hip is a longsword, and opposite it a whip,

What's all this hubbub about eh boys? No need for fights, we're all just men, and women trying to get back in this world eh? he tries to diffuse what he deemed a boiling pot.

(OOC: Sorry folks, was out at weekly PFS. The life and times of a VC :P)

Mirandir appeared to be zoned out for a moment, more concerned about maintaining appearances and not saying anything that would insult anyone. When he heard the comment about women being unlucky, the elf gave the half-orc a glare.

"Not so, anyone can offend the sea, particularly those who don't respect her. And luck is irrelevant, anyone who thinks otherwise is looking for an excuse."

Turning his attention to Joan, Mirandir nods slightly. "Lets just say the sea speaks to me in ways few would understand."

1 person marked this as a favorite.

When the loud sing-shout chant bursts out from the ship, Joan cringes and mutters to Elenia and Mirandir,

"Seriously? We might have to put up with that for three months?"

When Derrick passes by and offers a hand to shake, she takes it and smiles.

"Joan. Nice to meet you."

ill dot in for this always wanted to have a sea based character, I can post multiple times a day. I don't know how much longer you are recruiting but ill try to have one up soon I'm thinking Skinwalker{wereshark} inquisitor would work for the Carpenter

edit

question would you allow Synthesist summoner

@Riuk- I will announce some time on the 31st so you still have time and no I wont accept changelings sorry.
Edit: Just saw your edited post Synthesist is fine.

At this stage I am fairly confident I have 3 places locked down but everyone else is still very much in the mix. There is a huge variety of class options out there and not a lot of overlap. I have also decided to open another slot that makes 6 now in total! I will say don't over analyse the professions they will have a key role but I could find a space for 5 sailors or 6 clerks. A lot of the reason to give you them was to show some love to (in my experience) an under used skill.

awesome ill get on him now ill have the crunch up soon and background soon after that

Had this tab open since dotting for interest, but have been really, really busy.

Submitting basic character concept, now that I've got some crunch behind it to back up the cool (in my head, at least!) concept (I'll create an alias "soon"*) - my crunch isn't done, but at least now the concept actually has "something" mechanical to back it up! :D

Thomas Silverspoon is a master summoner**, a coward***, and a clerk. He's a clerk in order to avoid any nastiness, and a master summoner** for the same reason (because, who wants to deal with a fight?).

* For a given definition of "soon"
** Fear not - I'll have all the stats of the summonable-creatures on-hand, and handy. I'll also be rolling all the things (unless the GM wants to - I'm good either way) simultaneously, and am uninterested in abusing stuff. No slow-down from my end!
*** I was oscillating between this and lazy. I went with coward because I think it fits his character concept a little better, it makes sense with his backstory a bit more, and really helped me choose between his first level spells known while still making him useful (and infernal healing and tentatively mage armor, instead of unseen servant and summon minor monster).

Bio requested, per GM:
Name: Thomas Silverspoon

Age: 28

General Appearance: A Bonuwat man in his mid-to-late twenties, dressed in bright Varisian clothing, with a worn and marked Razmiran mask, and a full-body cloak of banana leaves. He has a notable "pendant" hanging from his neck, an ornately clasped set of... cards? He is of average height, with a wide mouth and dusky skin - and, though not very strong, a rather lovely sight to see.

Bio: The half-Ijo/half-Ombo son of a slave and a pirate (respectively), he was raised among the Ombo by his pirate-witch mother, often treated like the slave his father was supposed to be (though she was very, very protective of "her" boy). When her mother was killed in a dual, and he was claimed (along with all of her possessions) as a "prize", he waited until his new "master" slept, and slit the man's throat, taking his mother's most prized possession - her deck of magic cards sacred to Shimye-Magalla. He fled to the south to find the other half of his heritage... the Ijo. Unable to find his father (who had probably been sold to Bekyar instead - not something he was going to investigate), he found the people very welcoming, but their ways were dishearteningly primitive and poor - none of the nice clothes or civilized elements he was used to. Still, he would have stayed with "his" people, if the pirates hadn't come. Again. Knowing it was for him (despite the Ijo's suggestions to the contrary), he fled, first to Egorian, and then boarding a ship that went to the furthest reaches of the world: Varisia. There, he learned that the "sacred" deck his mother had used was called "Harrow" (although this one held more star-and-wave motifs than the normal), and he first heard that Shimye-Magalla... might not be a goddess. He learned the ways of Harrow for many years, holding onto his "heresy", even as he was mocked (if gently) by the Varisians for it (which they mostly thought of as "cute"). Still, it got him in trouble when some Sczarni, looking for an easy mark, lumped him in with a Razmiran. Together the two narrowly escaped their aggressors and fled (a second time, for Thomas) across Northern Avastan to the edge of Razmiran. There, he learned, much to his dismay, that his "fellow heretic" (who'd been showing him such neat things!) didn't actually believe the religion he followed! ... and also was planning on enslaving Thomas. Terrified, Thomas attempted to flee, but was trapped by the shore of Lake Encarthan, not quite able to get to the barge he was fleeing towards. Cowering in the waves as the false-priests approached, he begged Shimye-Magalla for aid, clinging to his mother's harrow deck, and a strangely beautiful and horrifying creature suddenly leaped from the waves onto the cultists, killing them, and leaving the badly-scarred mask of the one Thomas had once called "friend". Taking the mask, and the barge, Thomas sailed as far as he could. Now, no where was safe - to the north the Razmirans were after him. To the south, the Ombo. There was nowhere safe. And thus, when the opportunity for fleeing to a new world appeared...

Reason to go to sea: He needs to leave. Now. Thomas' motivations for going is to literally leave the "world" (as he knows it) to escape his (imaginary?) pursuers. He figures that his eidolon is a spiritual protector-gift from Shimye-Magalla herself, and thus it's a sign to go, navigate by the stars (which he's rubbish at, but this is poetry) and sail to freedom (which he's also rubbish at, but again - poetry).

3 words to describe you character:
- charming (alternately: slick)
- nervous (alternately: jumpy)
- intelligent (if naive)

@gm

one more quick question I really don't want to bother with the Summon monster part of the Summoner so if its ok will you allow me to use Blood god disciple

wanted to play him as he is a half-orc that takes power and blood from the sea to gain his powers

if I dont get the job as the cook I'm more than willing to just fish all day for the crew.

Less for me to do :)

here is what I have so far still need gear and background Qiun "Shark" Kosen

As "Salty" turns back to her, eager to hear more, Nayli finds a place to sit in the cobble. She looks at the whip in her hands, cursing quietly under her breath and shaking just a little. "Hells...Hells and yellowjackets. Can't be drawing that kind of attention to myself. She'll find me an easy mark."

As she calms herself, she wraps the whip's five tails into a tight loop and secures it once again to her belt. This one...maybe I can use this one against the fools running this ship. That task done, she stands and looks "Salty" in the eye. "I'm sorry, friend, but I'm afraid today's not a good day. Perhaps some other time? In the meantime, though, I could teach you about Calistria's other message. You know, how to exact revenge in the right way. Right now you're going about satisfying your pride like every other idiot on the streets."

"Not pride, Varisian. The problem is I can't stand the smell of dwarves."
Valaravans let's out a hearty laugh.

The loud laugh seems the startle a human that was taking a nap on the corner. In his startled state he accidently spills his equipment on the floor, with what looks like pots & Pans.

A human of average height drops to his knees to quickly gather his belongings but not succeeding in keeping it quiet.

A slight blush appears on his face

Sorry about that. Hope I didn’t.. {Yawns} .. disturb your conversation. Man that was a good dream too.

Looks around
Man are all these people here for the Merchant ship?
