I am afraid I made a horrible mistake!
I was counting in Salty's beastmorph mutagen to grant him a 30' swim speed.
But he doesn't gain the beastmorph mutagen until level 3!
Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!
If I had noticed it, I would have made him know (and prepare) a Touch of the Sea extract (instead of Comprehend Languages).

Back from rowing and lots has happened!
As the DM has said - it may be an idea to plan what we are doing first, so here is my preposition.
@ Salty - I have a really good plan to rescue Brayan but will need your help and will need to check something with DM also - Elenia will be diving in to rescue the dwarf!
I have a +5 modifier to swim currently and wonder if you would consider casting enlarge person on Elenia instead of yourself as she will go in to rescue Brayan - reading about unlikely heroes in her adventure books, Elenia feels that this is down to her her to rescue the non swimmer dwarf as the unlikely, less strong looking crew member.
DM - i took animate rope and was wondering if I dived in off the deck, if I could use that from my spellbook to tie a knot around Brayan after talking to him to calm him down?
| Joan Porter |
Elenia - I don't think Salty can enlarge you, since he's using an alchemist extract, and those generally only work on the alchemist who made them.
Also, with waves taller than ships, Brayan is probably already underwater. Don't count on talking to him.
The animate rope idea is clever, though. Could it possibly work to grab him, even without anyone else going overboard?
Joan wouldn't risk her life and/or a flogging by the Captain in an attempt to save the dwarf.
(The ship itself is flogging her plenty without getting the Captain involved!)
However, if a rope was tied around Brayan, or Salty, or Elenia, or whoever, she would.certainly help haul them back up on deck.

@ Elenia
I will give you the benefit of the doubt and let you have animate rope prepared this one time as it is in your spell book. However, make sure you are more prepared with what spells you have - in combat I will take what you have on your sheet.
@ Salty - Unfortunately, you don't have touch of the sea in your formula book, otherwise I would extend the same logic as above.
@ Joan
Brayan isn't a strong swimmer so will not proactively grab the rope - he is panicking too much but not necessarily underwater all the time. It will be important for you to roll a ranged throw attack to get the rope as close as possible to Brayan. This will help Elenia to animate the rope around Brayan.
Edit: Thanks for the roll.
So... This is how I understand the plan Salty will drink his potions etc. For a +7 to swim. (assuming you drop excess gear on the deck but take minus 3 if you wish.) He will then dive in and Make 2 successful Swim (DC20) checks or 1 successful Jump (DC15) and 1 successful swim check, to get to Brayan. If you fail the Jump then you will need to make the 2 checks.
At the same time Joan will throw a rope as accurately as possible. (Vs AC 10 25) and Elenia will animate the rope around Salty and Brayan and tie it around them.
Morvan and Mirandir will get the sail under control.
Is this correct? We will wait to see if Nayli wants to add anything before I describe what actually happens.
@ Salty: Please start rolling checks.
| DM_Judd |
@Joan: Was just thinking about this the short answer is if you hit your throw NO. However I grossly misread the AC which is 5 Plus 10 for every 10ft over the first 10ft so 25 total even with high ground bonuses you won't get close but however the rope only scatters 5ft away from the target in a random direction so salty will need to take a dunk.

Elenia: Yes, sorry, is an extract and he doesn't have a way to "pass it on".
DM Judd: Yes, as I said, I thought I had the beastmorph mutagen, so I would not need it. My bad.
In the post about the carried equipment, I had stated that Salty had not most of his equipment, or his armor on. So he it unencumbered, only carrying his sailor clothes, his two bandanas, his extracts and mutagens, and a dagger. All else is stored away.
So he can jump overboard as soon as he drinks his mugaten an extract, with +7 to swim. BTW, his Acrobatics bonus unencumbered, mutated and and enlarged is +1.
Swim time! Dice don't fail me now!

I'm going to be a bit sparse this weekend as I'll be in charge of PFS at a local convention. I do, however, have something to make up for it. You might recall that earlier our esteemed GM put up rather basic drawings of our little boat. Having a day to myself and powerful map creation software sitting on my computer gathering virtual dust, I decided to, how to put it, upgrade them.
There's two ways you can go about viewing them. The "essential" views of the three decks (Judd and I agreed the hold didn't need mapping) can be found HERE . The problem though is that whenever I pull the files out of their native format, they tend to lose resolution and thus aren't as snazzy as they could be. To view them in their native format you must either have Campaign Cartographer 3 (I use an add-on to it that makes it useful for this sort of application) or download their free viewer app HERE . You'll probably want to download both the viewer and the DD3 Bitmap set for optimal viewing. The native files can be found HERE . If you're having trouble downloading these, shoot me a PM with your e-mail and I'll send them on Sunday.
Judd's cross section guided my mapping, but I took a couple liberties, mostly with the crew deck. I did a fair bit of research on the internal arrangement of these sorts of ships when doing this which is why, for example, there's not a mast running straight through the captains cabin :).

@ Salty - You don't know that Elenia has touch of the sea but she does prepare it each morning. If DM allows - maybe make a spell craft check to see if you can identify it first, then we will go from there.
Elenia also needs to speak to you more before she would be willing to teach it to you.
FYI my spell book is written in Varysan so you would also need to comprehend languages unless you continue to speak with Elenia who may write it out for you.

Worth noting there is a GP cost to scribe a scroll or recipe into your spellbook or formula list, even if the person sharing the spell with you isn't charging you (for if we start sharing en masse).
Sadly, Elenia can't learn from the recipe book of an alchemist although an alchemist can learn from a wizard.
