"Looks safe to me! The runelords must have thought the giants would keep us out. Lead the way, boys!"
| DM Spires |
The interior of this dazzling chamber is awash in golden light - it shines from every gem, every strip of gold, and every silver-inlaid wall carving, creating a kaleidoscope of color and riches. The checkerboard pattern on the floor is interrupted in a twenty-foot-wide path from the doors to a throne on a dais of onyx to the southwest by a path of what appear to be countless rubies, forming a "red carpet" of sorts to the throne itself.
This throne, if possible, makes the rest of the chamber's extravaance seem pale and poor, for it is made of shining gold, diamonds, rubies and sapphires, and draped with simmering, glowing furs from unrecognizable creatures. The throne itself is sized for a giant, and stands nearly twenty feet tall from foot to peak.
In front of the throne you see a beautiful Varisian woman - apparently human, but magically magnified to tower over even the tallest human. She's dressed in shining golden plate mail covered by a flowing cloak with a rich, reflective black fur cowl thrown back. Bearing scimitar and shield in the same gold as her armor she points her sword at you.
Who dares intrudes on the Palace of Karzoug?!
From the shadows emerge two giants who put even the storm giants to shame. Towering above you, they have skin nearly black in color - as if made from pitted iron - than is etched with countless complex runes. As they move out of the darkness you can see the runes flash and ripple as if they were scratches in the skin revealing the giants were really made of fire burning within the shell of their skin.
Worse, they bear giant swords big enough to bissect a house.
The woman screams at you as she spies the bodies of the giants behind you.
Death to those who defy the Runelord!
The scream, although impressive in volume, is curiously lacking in emotion as the enemies advance towards you.

I assume there's no surprise round...
Duhwoo pops out his wand o' Dimension Door as a swift action, steps over to grab hold of Vars:
"Ah kin save ya some runnin' 'round, sir!"
(Vars can shrug away from Duhwoo if he doesn't want to go, of course).
He then uses the wand to appear in V-14 -- behind and to the lady's right -- with Vars in V-15 (so he can choose to 5' adjacent to either the lady or the giant from there).
Duhwoo has Step-up, in case that becomes germane...
I guess it doesn't matter whether there's a surprise round or not -- all of Duhwoo's actions can be completed in a surprise round!

If there was a surprise round they'd go since they could ambush you having heard your enthusiastic attacks outside the door - trust me, you don't want that!
Trotter, you've heard of these monsters but never seen one before. I presume anyway?
Rune giants, crafted and crossbred from taiga and fire giant slaves by ancient wizards, rune giants are anathema to their own kind. Given power to command and magically control other giants, the rune giants themselves served their even more powerful masters, and in so doing granted ancient empires armies of giants to command. In the eons since these ancient empires collapsed, rune giants have persisted as a race of their own, little more than bogeymen, horrors whispered of late at night by superstitious giants.
Rune Giants are immune to fire, electricity and cold attacks. They have the ability to walk on midair and can cause the runes on its bodies to flash with light so powerful anyone within reach is blinded by the light they emit.

OK, sorry again and I'm back. The new map is up.
The rune giants seem illogically impervious to your attempt to mind control them. They may simply be controlled by a more magically powerful force than you can bring to bear, or simply immune to having their minds controlled.
The giants spring into action faster than anything their size has a right to move. They move to flank the two fighters and bring their massive swords to bear against the teleporting barbarian.
Duhwoo, this is based on your statement that you're not blinking right now.
Attack: 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (7) + 29 = 36
Damage: 6d6 + 24 ⇒ (2, 5, 5, 2, 6, 2) + 24 = 46
Attack: 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (1) + 29 = 30
Damage: 6d6 + 24 ⇒ (4, 4, 3, 1, 6, 2) + 24 = 44
Dexterity: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
One of their swords impacts hard and staggers the barbarian Pathfinder. The other one was apparently unnerved by the fact that you killed the woman so quickly and catches his blade on the floor trying for a sweep to catch Duhwoo between his legs with his sword. Instead his sword catches and clatters to the floor - it sounds like someone dropped an entire forge in an echo chamber as the sword rattles.
Go.

the only way they could possibly miss was on a nat '1'! what a great break!
"One of their swords impacts hard and staggers the barbarian Pathfinder..." -- so I take it Duhwoo has the staggered condition?
Duhwoo activates his ring o' Blinkin', and takes a 5' step to W-14...
Vars Stanic
|
Vars moves 10' to V116 and attacks that giant.
This will, of course, provoke.
power attack, dazing assault
to hit: 1d20 + 32 ⇒ (12) + 32 = 44 damage: 1d8 + 37 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 37 + (1) = 40 DC 28 fortitude save or be dazed for 1 round.
Duhwoo X. McKeener

well in that case, instead of activating his ring, Duh will use his move action to pull a scroll of Mirror Image from his Handy Haversack, then his standard action will go to trying to read the scroll:
Duhwoo's Caster Level check vs DC4: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
and (with his lips moving as he reads, and some obvious phonetic pronunciation used) he barely manages to activate 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 images of himself!
THEN he takes a 5' step into square W-14, and Rages as a free action -- kicking off Power Attack, Reckless Abandon, and "Come 'n' Git Me"...
(for Mirror Image, I always go with a '1' hits "actual": so next attack on Duhwoo should require a D5, and a '1' hits the actual target -- assuming a '1' is not rolled and that pops an image, following strike would require a D4, still hitting "actual" on a '1' -- etc...)
| DM Spires |
Vuvu: you have a 60 feet fly speed correct? After the Giants move last turn that puts you at 25 feet from the southern giant.
Avoreal: Hmmm...I'm not sure I'd go with the inspire bonus to battering blast's CMB (the ranged touch attack, of course yes). The CMB in question isn't an ally's CMB but the force orb's. Don't think it's all that important though so I won't worry about it.
Duhwoo, new map is up and W-14 is occupied by a giant (they're flanking you and Vars. Let me know if you want to move elsewhere and take the same actions.

ah -- the updated map changes everything: Duhwoo knows using a scroll would provoke from both, and anyway they moved into full attack range! So he might as well just full attack the one Vars just hit, with Power Attack, Reckless Abandon, and "Come 'n' Git Me":

Well if you're in the market for large, huge or gargantuan-sized armor the giant's plate mail all shows signs of magic, as well as a ring with the Sihedron crest on them.
The woman's armor, cloak, shield, belt, two rings and a cloak pin, in the shape of a scarab, also show signs of magic.
The woman, besides the sword, is wearing a set of +5 full plate, a +5 heavy steel shield, a belt of physical might +4 (Str, Con), a cloak of minor displacement, a ring of freedom of movement, a Sihedron ring and a Scarab of Protection (10 charges).
The cloud and storm giants are wearing +2 full plate and a Sihedron ring each. The rune giants are wearing +4 full plate
Sihedron ring: This otherwise plain ring is adorned with a tiny star-shaped rune. These rings were given as badges of office and tokens of appreciation—sometimes, they were given as bribes.
A star ring grants a +3 deflection bonus to AC, a +3 resistance bonus on all saving throws, and protects the wearer with a constant endure elements effect.
At will, as a standard action, the wearer can use the ring to change the appearance of his clothing or armor into any other kind of clothing or armor. The actual clothing and armor worn retain all their properties (including weight) when glamered. Only true seeing or similar magic reveals the true nature of the adornments.
