Erin Reynor |

Seeing the figures on the move, Erin quickly peers under the flap beside her, carefully checking to see if the small tent is occupied. If it's empty, she slips under the flap in her reduced state and crosses swiftly to the other side.
Erin Stealth: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (17) + 16 = 33 Chi Stealth: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (8) + 16 = 24

Evalee Ribbinz |

Time to be distracting, I suppose.
Evalee will rise her horse into open view to the south of Pogug, careful to keep herself just out of reach of anyone’s double move. If they come after me, I’ll ride off into the sunset, and Pogug’ll be in the clear. If they don’t, at least I’ll be closer to the action.
I don’t have a keyboard, so if someone could move Evalee for me I’d be much obliged.
Semsephiel will move behind the closest tent, getting closer to the action without risk of being seen. Again, no keyboard, so if someone could move him for me I’d appreciate it greatly.

whosawhatsis |

I assume Semsephiel is trying to move silently, double move at half-speed.
Semsephiel Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Could you also verify that you're satisfied with where I put Evalee? She's right by a torch, but since she's trying to be a distraction, I assume that's a good thing.
Just waiting for Ashak.

whosawhatsis |

The bearded man is the first to spot Evalee, who is making no attempt at stealth. He lets out a shout to alert the other members of the carnival as he starts to move in her direction, muttering arcane words.
Horse Will Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Evalee's summoned horse suddenly loses consciousness, spilling her unceremoniously onto the trampled grass.
You're actually lucky the horse failed its save. Sleep affects a maximum of 4HD of creatures, starting with the lowest. If the horse had saved, the spell might have dropped you instead.
You all are up again. Evalee, since you were dropped unexpectedly, I'll let you make a DC14 acrobatics check to land on your feet, otherwise you will begin your turn prone.

Erin Reynor |

Erin takes advantage of the distraction to dart forward, squeezing under the wall of the main tent. Erin Stealth: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29 Chi Stealth: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29 She stays beneath the cover of the flap, scanning the tent's interior for any sign of opposition.

whosawhatsis |

The inside of the tent is dark. Erin peeks inside just in time to see a narrow beam of pale blue light stream down, landing near the back of the tent, cast by glowing orbs that appear above the tent to alert the members of the carnival that her group has arrived. It is otherwise dark inside. Lacking even low-light vision, she will have difficulty navigating inside the tent.
Technically, the lights are high enough that Erin probably shouldn't even be able to see that much from where she is, but for narrative purposes...

Evalee Ribbinz |

With my armor check penalty, that's a flat roll. :[
acrobatics: 1d20 ⇒ 14
:D
Fast stepping her way out of the horses stirrups as it collapses, Evalee manages to keep her footing. "I am a graceful and ancient being!" the half-elf triumphantly proclaims.
Stumbling over her own feet, she hastens to distance herself from the bearded man. It's my tun to move, right? If not, ignore what follows.
She quadruple moves in the direction of Vilesport. The bearded man has longer legs, so he'll probably catch up to her eventually despite her head start [ooc](If it comes to consitution checks) but she's a distraction, right? If he doesn't chase, I'll summon a new horse and loop back around.
She's now four squares off the edge of the map.
Semsphiel watches her run. She'll be fine, he assures himself. But he should probably get to work distracting people. Eerily quiet for someone of his size, limbs bending at all the wrong angles as he compresses himself into the shadowy recesses of the cart, Semsephiel holds his chain weapon taught in his four hands as he moves (to keep it from clinking).
Double move, using stealth.
stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Even with distance penalties, that's got a fair chance of being heard.
Startled into watchfulness by the sound of his metal weapon striking one of the cart's windows, Semsephiel holds his breath and waits to see if anything comes around the corner of the parked vehicle.
If someone provokes an attack of opportunity from him, he'll attempt to trip. His bonus is +9

whosawhatsis |

The tent's nearest support pole lets out a crack, and that entire end of the tent begins to fall to the ground, slowed somewhat by the pressure of the escaping air as the tent's interior volume decreases.
That tent won't be providing nearly as much cover in a moment. Anyone behind it who still wishes to hide may want to find a different place to do so.

Semsephiel Godscourge |

‘,:\
He didn’t whack it, I was just role-playing the low stealth role as him accidentally making a noise ‘cause he wasn’t watching where his hands were.
But whatever, he’s supposed to be distracting people and this is plent distracting. Sephy isn’t the sort to intentionally cause property damage, but he’ll take advantage of it.

Pogug |

In a bit of a tight spot with Semsphiel's mistake, Pogug moves quickly to the north where Ashak and Erin are.
Stealth, Not Half Speed: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26

whosawhatsis |

Erin has low-light vision, but she doesn't have a light source with her (not an active one, anyway), so she is effectively blinded (at least in terms of telling where she's going) once she's more than 80ft from the torch. Did you want to stop once she got that far? If she wants to continue running beyond that, I'll need another acrobatics check to avoid falling. I'll wait until that's resolved before posting the next round of actions.

Evalee Ribbinz |

Ah, my bad. Sorry for slowing things up.
I kinda assumed that having the same vision type as an owl would let one navigate by the light of the moon and stars; it isn’t supernaturally dark out. If she can’t and never could see in the dark she’ll have to start going to bed at a reasonable time instead of staying up to read into the early hours of the morning, which she’ll be sad about.
If it’s too dark to see, she’ll stop running.

Evalee Ribbinz |

I was flummoxed on account of being positive I’d read somewhere that lowlight vision let you see at night, and I eventually found this:
Low-Light Vision
Characters with low-light vision have eyes that are so sensitive to light that they can see twice as far as normal in dim light. Low-light vision is color vision. A spellcaster with low-light vision can read a scroll as long as even the tiniest candle flame is next to him as a source of light.
Characters with low-light vision can see outdoors on a moonlit night as well as they can during the day.

whosawhatsis |

Good find. I hadn't read that, but I've been assuming these nights are not moonlit. While I've been letting you get away with some things you shouldn't be able to do without a light source (especially ), but I've been running the NPCs as if they can't see without the torches, dancing lights, or darkvision.
So, we'll say that Evalee stopped at the edge of what her low-light vision would illuminate. The bearded guy who's after her is human, so she's in darkness as far as he's concerned.

whosawhatsis |

The white-bearded man (who doesn't look nearly old enough to be so hoary) follows after Evalee, casting Dancing Lights and sending them ahead of himself until Evalee is just visible to human eyesight. Halador begins to follow in that direction as well, running through the darkness.
Halador acrobatics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 (success)
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Evalee can feel the ground shake with each of Halador's massive footsteps. He's adjacent and can see you, but needed a full-round action to get there, so he doesn't have an action left to try to tag you.
Another set of Dancing Lights flares to life near Semsephiel, and Gregor Malefect rounds the corner, brandishing a long, silvery blade that curves, gracefully. It glints in the bluish magical light as it swings toward the fiend, revealing elvish symbols etched along its length.
sword (pulled): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16 (nat-1 is an automatic miss, even though it still beats his AC)
worse than just a miss?: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21 (no.)
Though he swipes deftly, Semsephiel's strange anatomy makes him misjudge the distance, and the sword slashes harmlessly between the folds of his cloak.
Behind the carnival's leader, Semsephiel can see the knee-high brownie advancing. Behind that, the tiefling flicks his cigarette away and begins to move in graceful, gliding steps in his direction.
You guys are up again.

whosawhatsis |

There's one narrow shaft of light coming through the hole just north of the center of the tent. It's hitting a spot on the ground against the back wall of the tent that is the same size as the hole. That spot is dim light, the rest is dark. In other words, there is no appreciable light inside the tent.

Evalee Ribbinz |

Evalee wishes she could turn invisible.
This isn't a recent developement, she's fantasized about turning invisible since she was six or seven. "Evalee~" her dad would call, opening the door without knocking, "are you in here?" Nope, she'd think, turning invisible and continuing what she was doing unperturbed.
The memory comes too suddenly to repress, and she dwells on it far longer than she should, with Halador sprinting towards her.
She's read all manner of different wizard's takes on the classic spell, and has been trying to figure out how to do it with her own strange brand of sorcery for a while now. She mutters her latest rendition of the words, knowing before she even tries that they won't work.
The magic that binds hers and Sephy's souls together lets her access the power that the Godscourge no longer can, which is infuriating. She has all sorts of magical potential, but no idea how to cast spells with it. I really should get around to learning proper wizardry, she thinks, wishing she could just copy other people's work into a spellbook. But she's self-aware enough to know that she never will, not when her infernal sorcery is so much more convenient. She'll keep struggling to reverse engineer spells one by one by one by one, sighing wistfully all the while at all the wizards perseverant enough to stick with their craft long enough that it comes naturally to them.
Instead, she'll quickstep backwards as Halador approaches five foot reposition, free action and cast grease standard action, DC 15

Semsephiel Godscourge |

Semsephiel got an AoO as Gregor closed to melee range, which he'll use to attempt a trip. I'm guessing, since the bloke has +15 to hit, that his CMD is likely fairly high, but it's worth a shot.
AoO Trip: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17 Yeah, I doubt that'll do anything.
Semsephiel swings his chain weapon across the ground as Malefect approaches, to no effect at all.
Clumsy.
Clumsy giving away his position, clumsy swinging his weapon, clumsy clumsy clumsy. It seems to be a pattern with him lately.
I'd say I'm better than this but . . . I'm not. The mortal is in Semsphiel's face now, swinging at the fiend's outstretched arm with the flat of his blade. Semsephiel collapses the limb, bending it it five different places and pulling it close to his body. I'm not being clumsy.
The former tyrant of a thousand spheres withdraws withdraw action, repositioning so anyone approaching will have to eat an AoO trip attempt. Or try an acrobatics roll, since there's no way he's going to surprise anyone with the same trick twice., whirling his flaying flying blade about him, digging furrows in the ground with the weapon and kicking up dirt. I am clumsy.
This is reality now. I'm slow and stupid and clumsy.

Erin Reynor |

Eyes straining to pierce the darkness within the tent, Erin stays put. She listens intently for any sign of opposition, while the squirrel on her back twitches nervously. Erin Perception: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 8 + 2 = 17 Chi Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22 Chi does have low-light vision, by the way. Readying an action to move if spotted.

whosawhatsis |

It appears that we've lost Ashak, as well. I should have time to get a real post up later today. If we haven't heard from him by then, I'll bot him. I'll also need to figure out how to write his character out of the story, along with Nathaniel...
Edit: Just checked his aliases in his other games, and it doesn't look like they've been active either, so it's not like he's participating in other games and just ignoring us. Hope he's not stuck offline in hurricane land. I might keep him on as a bot for a while to give him the opportunity to come back once whatever's going on with him is sorted out (unlike Nathaniel, whose player posted in 3 other games yesterday and still hasn't had the courtesy to tell us that he's dropping this one).

whosawhatsis |

Halador runs toward Evalee, readying his club to swing. At the apex of his backswing, Evalee takes a quick step backward, leaving a magical pool of dark grease on the ground in her wake, like a squid spraying ink to evade a predator.
Halador Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Halador plants his foot hard in the lubricious pool just as he begins to swing his huge club. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction, and under normal conditions, the friction between his foot and the ground would counteract the force of massive weapon's acceleration. Evalee's grease has left the ground almost completely devoid of friction, though, and as the weapon moves forward, Halador's foot begins to move backward. His swing comes up short, and as it arcs through the air toward her, making a loud WHOOOM!, his foot swing up into the air behind him, and the Brobdingnagian performer lands face-down in the grease with an even louder BOOM!. If anyone in the carnival wasn't aware that the group had arrived, they are now.
Meanwhile, Erin peers into the darkness and listens for the sound of anything stirring inside the tent. Behind her, Chi pokes his head out of her pack and does the same. The darkness is very dark though, and all they can hear is a WHOOOM! followed by a BOOM! from outside.
Ashak sees Ashyr in the torchlight standing outside one of the tents. When he hears the sound, he dives behind a nearby pile of hay, covered by a sheet of burlap, to avoid being spotted when she turns toward the noise.
Ashak Stealth: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (20) + 19 = 39
He hides extremely well, but is afraid that he's been spotted anyway when he hears her angrily yell HEY!. She then enters the tent, and there is more angry yelling that he can't make out.
In front of Evalee, Halador attempts to stand up in the pool of grease without falling back down.
Halador Acrobatics (DC10): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
He takes a single cautious step out of the grease.
Halador Acrobatics (DC10): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Halador stands, towering over Evalee, looking down at her. Halador is adjacent again, but that takes two move actions, so he still can't attack. I extended the road, in case you need more grid to work with.
As Evalee looks up at the towering carny, she doesn't notice the white-bearded man behind him as he speaks another spell.
Evalee will save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Evalee meets Halador's eyes, and she is wondering how much this is going to hurt, when suddenly the world goes dark. Evalee is asleep.
At the same moment, Gregor is beginning to pursue the girl's fiendish guardian, as he suddenly fades away from the material plane.
Evalee is out, but she's managed to create quite a distraction and draw several carnival members out of position. Hopefully this will leave the opening the rest of you need. The rest of you are up.

whosawhatsis |

The white-bearded man considers casting a sleep spell, but he recognizes the young half-elven girl, and has been informed that sleep effects are useless against her type. Instead, he moves close enough to cast a different spell. One that he hasn't been told not to try to use against her.
Acid splash (ranged touch, pulled): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 201d3 ⇒ 2
An orb of acid appears in the air in front of Evalee, then immediately explodes, spraying droplets that cause superficial burns on her skin. Evalee takes 1 point nonlethal damage, and is out.
At the same moment, Gregor charges toward the girl's fiendish guardian, who doesn't suddenly fades away from the material plane.
Semsephiel AoO trip: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Semsephiel is waiting for the man, and swings his flying blade low, attempting to trip him, but the man is surprisingly nimble, and before he knows it, Gregor's blade is again swinging toward the demonic bodyguard.
sword (pulled): 1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 15 + 2 = 191d10 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
This time, Gregor does not misjudge Semsephiel's anatomy, and the sword makes contact, skillfully leaving a shallow slash across his chest. Semsephiel takes 5 points of nonlethal damage, and is also out.
Evalee and Semsephiel are out, but Evalee has managed to create quite a distraction, and the two of them have drawn several carnival members out of position. Hopefully this will leave the opening the rest of you need. The rest of you are up.

Erin Reynor |

Perceiving no response to the tumult outside, Erin decides to risk moving forward. She creeps softly and stays low to the ground, the wand's magic moving her with remarkable speed. Erin heads toward the center of the tent, feeling in front of her for the ladder she knows is there. When she reaches it she ducks under the bottom rung and crouches beneath it, peering around and up the ladder from the relative safety of cover.
Move action to move, readying an action to evade if someone goes after her.
Erin Stealth: 1d20 + 16 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 16 + 2 = 32 Chi Stealth: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (8) + 16 = 24
Erin Perception: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 8 + 2 = 27

whosawhatsis |

Move action to move, readying an action to evade if someone goes after her.
What action are you readying? There's no "evade" action. Also "goes after her" isn't a specific action (or list of possible actions) that can trigger a readied action, and keep in mind that you can't see, so if somebody does go after you, you likely won't know about it until after they make contact, which is too late to attempt to "evade" (your readied action can't be triggered by something you aren't aware of). You could take the total defense action to raise your AC (which is currently significantly reduced, due to being effectively blinded).
