Uriel of Mendev
|
It has been taking a long time to get to the next level. Fortunately, Uriel is moving quietly for once.
Has the party discussed a “Drowned Level” since Uriel joined? He is from Mendev and knows little about this Spire, although he has had some high “fluid” combat training for fighting Worldwound demons. (Don’t ask what kind of fluid, but they didn’t bother with waterbreathing...
The All-Seeing Eye.
The group finally decides to head on down the ramp descending to the next level. Round and round you go descending lower into darkness.
The ramp winding down from the level above ends in a flight of stairs leading to a dank, low-ceilinged room. The curved surface of the Emerald Spire takes up the northwest corner, and to the east is a broad stairway leading down to a dark passage from which the soft sound of lapping of water emanates. A small, closed door stands in the south wall. Several toad-sized crabs skitter about.
I'll have to take care of further description and initiative later. Sorry, ran out of time.
The All-Seeing Eye.
My apologies. RL busy the last couple of days. Feel free to readjust your icons on the grid as you see fit. - Everybody should have received an invite to be able to edit this map at the email addresses you provided me. Please let me know if there are any issues with being able to access / edit the map. *** By the way, level up = full rest, so everybody is at full HP, full spells, - including new HP & spells. You have no idea what time of day it is, or what the weather outside is like. ;-)
As you enter the room you all see a blue-skinned, blue-haired humanoid clad in silvery mail. He’s accompanied by a hideous, four-legged orange crab monster with a small, blue, winged creature sitting on its back.
The blue-skinned humanoid says, "يجب ان ترحل انا مشغول بدراسة المستدق هنا"
Aldhranhald (and anyone else that is trained), feel free to make a linguistics check here. *** Everyone also feel free to make any other checks you'd like at this time. Perception, knowledges, try to know what these creatures are check, etc., etc. *** I warned everyone of a VERY aquatic level, and nobody bothered to learn Aquan? Really? I mean, I tried to help ya all out, but there's only so much I'm going to give!
Uriel of Mendev
|
Uriel will use detect evil on the blue-skinned humanoid (move action version) and inform the party in common what the results are.
Linguistics: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
...Yes, he is trained, 1 rank but a -2 Int modifier and not a class skill...
The All-Seeing Eye.
Uriel does not detect any evil, but he has absolutely no idea what the blue-skinned humanoid said.
Base on the post made in Discussion, I think Sama is taking Aquan for her new language, so I shall go ahead and proceed based on that.
Sama, understands the blue skinned humanoid to be telling the group to leave, he is busy studying the Spire.
Uriel of Mendev
|
Uriel shrugs his shoulders, saying "I don't detect any evil, but I don't understand this creature's language."
Aldhranhald
Having just recently finished his study of Aquan in the book he acquired containing planar knowledge, Aldhranhald easily understands the creature's speech. He smiles and claps his hands in obvious joy. Then says, in his best Aquan dialect, "Wonderful! A fellow scholar! I would absolutely love to exchange notes with you. I've fully mapped every level above and taken copious notes on everything. Would you care to take an hour or two to share knowledge with a fellow student of the Spire?"
The All-Seeing Eye.
Quite clearly the blue-skinned humanoid gets irritated by Aldhranhald's response. He replies rather sternly still in Aquan, "I said LEAVE!" And it is quite clear he means for you to leave by the same way you came. The large crab-like creature gives a sort of 'shudder' at the humanoid's words. It does NOT appear to be shuddering in fear, but rather more like anticipation perhaps?
Sorry, at work I can't get on the translator.
Uriel of Mendev
|
Uriel grips his sword and shield more tightly at the terse words from the creature, though he does not understand them. That crab creature, though, looks hostile...
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
The All-Seeing Eye.
I forgot a minor part earlier ...
The small, winged, blue creature on the crab's back, takes off and flies out of sight.
**********************************************************
Uriel, their motives are certainly NOT friendly, rather more like extremely hostile! :-D
Boudacia
Boudacia is tense, expecting combat, and says "I suspect we are about to be attacked, and the small creature is fetching reinforcements."
Aldhranhald
Seeing that this creature is inflappable, Aldhranhald returns hostility with hostility. In Aquan he says, "We are not leaving, and we WILL study this level of the Spire; you can either benefit by this or be destroyed. The choice is yours." While he's making threats he is also scouring the recesses of his knowledge for any bits about creatures like this blue-skinned humanoid.
Knowledge: ?, with Monster Lore Ability: 1d20 + 10 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 10 + 3 = 18
Not sure which knowledge would be appropriate, but they are all +10 except Arcana, which would be a +11. Unless it's Geography, Nature, or History, then it would be +7. Regardless, Aldy also gets the +3 from the Monster Lore ability. :)
Boudacia
1 person marked this as a favorite.
"That is really telling them, Aldhranhald. But what are you telling them? It sounded really awesome though, like an aquarium rioting."
The All-Seeing Eye.
Aldhranhald recognizes this creature as being an outsider of the mysterious, aquatic, Undine race. He also knows they are somewhat resistant to cold.
*****************************************************************
The blue skinned humanoid suddenly yells, "الهجوم!" and as the crab starts to move forward he starts casting a spell.

Realizing that a spell is being cast, Aldhranhald reacts with lightning quick speed and casts a spell of his own. A spell his deity has just recently empowered him to cast. Via the magic he commands the undine to halt his actions. He gives voice to the spell by saying, in Aquan, "Halt!
DC 14 Will Save to Negate the effects of the spell. Otherwise the creature is forced to literally stand still and do nothing for an entire round of initiative. :)
The All-Seeing Eye.
The crab takes a step forward and attacks Chalkou with both it's claws and it also tries to bite at him!
Claw attack 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Claw attack 2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

"I call down the wrath of Skraa-orm Thagh on you foolish creatures! announces Boudacia in dread tones as she employs the Slumber Hex on the blue-skinned humanoid.
The All-Seeing Eye.
Chalkou? How did you come up with a + 13 to your attack, and down to a + 11 to your damage? Your tag-line shows a + 11 to att & + 17 to damage. What am I missing here? - Not that it matters much right now (you missed), just want to know for future reference please.
Chalkou tries to stab at the crab with his longspear but misses it completely.

Uriel steps up to the giant crab, slashing at it with his longsword.
Note, we haven't gotten into the water, so Uriel's AC is 2 higher and his damage is 4 lower with the shield equipped).
1-H Longsword Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Longsword Damage: 1d8 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Boudacia
That is most irregular Chalkou. You normally need your character to employ power attack. And if the stat line is attacking you should determine it's initiative.
The All-Seeing Eye.
Uriel swings his sword powerfully, but it glances off of the crabs shell causing no damage.
Your attack was not quite high enough to meet its AC. The Crab has a very good AC. :-D
The All-Seeing Eye.
Sama gets distracted by the claws waving around before her and her spell fizzles out.
CURRENT INITIATIVE:
Block 1:

Block 2:

Block 3:
Boudacia & Chalkou
Block 4:
Blue skinned humanoid
Block 5:
Uriel & Sama
Aldhranhald
Aldhranhald grabs his fancy new crossbow, cranked and loaded from its loop on his pack steps forward a few paces and, leaning around Uriel, fires at the blue skinned creature that started the hostility.
Crossbow Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Damage?: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
That figures.
The All-Seeing Eye.
Aldhranhald's bolt finds a chink in the blue-skinned humanoid's armor and manages to prick his skin! ;-)
The crab then lashes out with one claw at Uriel and the other claw at Sama, while it also tries to bite Sama!
1st claw at Uriel: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
2nd claw at Sama: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Bite at Sama: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
The first claw cuts into Uriel doing Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 points of damage.
The second claw cuts into Sama doing Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 points of damage while the crab then bites into her as well doing Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 points of damage. 13 damage total.

Okay! Let's get this game on the road! You have all somehow or other met (though how any of you got past the sealed floor / door from level 4 down to here is somewhat of a mystery ...) Intro's have been made (Anybody who wants to introduce themselves and possibly do a little role-play, feel free to do so, we will consider it as having happened before this). Plans have been made (or you better get them finished up if not!).
As the group walks semi-quietly down the long spiral staircase, you realize there is a smell of ... something, your not sure of what, but it is a new smell indicating a change ahead.
Does anyone want to take any particular actions? Or just continue on and arrive at the bottom of the stairs? - I did take the liberty of placing the icons on the Battle-Grid and giving everyone a colored border to help identify them. If for any reason you do not like the color I used feel free to change it or ask me to do it. It's easy. Also feel free to change your location but keep it to the squares I have put the group in please.
Lonam Asri
Upon meeting the group, and to answer the questions, Lonam has told you that he is a student of Azlanti culture and trying to learn more about his origins. He grew up in Taldor but does not provide any more information. He has traveled for a large number of years to learn Azlanti, he follows Milani, explaining that she personally saved his life. He describes that while he can provide healing and care for the party, he does not claim to be very good in a fight. As the group descends the staircase, he withdraws his morning star from his belt, "Vera is ready!"
The All-Seeing Eye.
... "Vera is ready!"
Literal LOL!!! Hahahaha! Vera! I wonder what Jayne would have to say about a morningstar being named after his Vera! Hahaha!
Ilyanaro Balmaris
Ilya offers ritual greetings to all the PCs, happy to meet some, happy to be reunited with others. Hes been around, it's possible you've run into one another once or twice in the past.
He raises his staff and with a whispered word in elven, the tip begins to glow with a white light.
"I am thrilled to be amongst other professional seekers of danger and knowledge. I am not, as you say, hardy or good in a melee fight, but my spells and other magics should prove quite useful. Does anyone have any objections to things like being invisible, or transmutations to increase one's speed and reflexes? Any religious or ideological considerations you would like me to hear?"
He carries an extremely well made and tooled leather backpack, and a belt pouch. Other than his staff and bow, he has a small dagger and that's it for equipment. Visible, at least.

Uriel answers, "I have no objection to such spells, provided they are not evil in origin. I am partial to effects that allow me to do holy or fire damage," he says, smiling.
Uriel of Mendev

Uriel will be detecting evil a they descend the stairs. Sword and shield are out--he is likely going first or second in the marching order.
Raziel Drakan
Raziel is silent for most of the time, but he listens carefully to the words from every others - he had introduced himself as a scout, but also a purveyor of secrets, and a tinkerer of all things magical.
His newest companions seemed to have accepted that explanation. They seemed to understand he was in it for the thrill, for the adventure - that pleased him. It brought a glint to his dark black eyes behind the pulled down cowl and unruly black hair, and a twitch of anticipation to his ever moving tail.
His attire seems to show exactly what would be expected from an adventurer - well worn from travel, and beset with pouches, scroll cases, bags, potions and bandoleers, all in easy reach and firmly affixed to his person, ready to produce this or that item for the situation at hand

Chalkou takes a long look at the elven newcomer, then shrugs his armored shoulders. "If it helps me cleanse the dangerous monsters from this tower, sure. Not sure invisibility is really my style, though."
"It is definitely my style" - the tiefling piped in with a smile that clearly evidenced his larger than normal canines - "Feel free to apply any such effects on me. Always willing to experiment" - he added.
Uriel will be detecting evil a they descend the stairs. Sword and shield are out--he is likely going first or second in the marching order.
"Do let me know whenever you want me to scout the areas ahead - knowledge is power after all"

I am not opposed to those types of spells to assist the party but they might be wasted on me. If you would like to hear how Milani saved my life and how she can provide you insight into your life, I would be happy to expound on what she can offer.

"No objections at all. I employ invisibility myself and use a hex that can give my friends good luck."replies Boudacia, who then gestures to the bat on her shoulder, continuing "I am Boudacia and this is Wayne. Incidentally I sometimes turn into a bat myself, don't be concerned it is perfectly supernatural."
Ilyanaro Balmaris
"A bat-shifting witch with a bat familiar. How utterly...appropriate. I am pleased to adventure with you all. It would appear we are more magically inclined than many of my past groups, but that will be an advantage, I hope. Masters Chalkou and Uriel, I assume you would serve as our "front line" as it were, yes? I can support with magic and force missiles quite well, and I have a few other tricks as well."
Ilya bows and gestures with his softly glowing staff.
"After you, gentlemen."
Boudacia
"Pleased to make your acquaintance Ilyanaro. We seem well staffed with spellcasters, which is often a good thing."
Chalkou
When Lonam begins prattling on about Milani, Chalkou casts a sidelong glance and rolls his eyes, but says nothing. Great. A zealot. But as long as he does not oppose the Order’s hold on Fort Inevitable, I suppose I can work with him.
When Ilya speaks up again, Chalkou nods. ”I am at my best within my longspear’s reach. Uriel and I can, I think shield the rest of you from most enemies.”

At the mention of his name, Uriel pipes in, "I will endeavor to protect you as best I can." Gripping his shield for emphasis, he looks ahead, "Be wary, I hear movement ahead."
The All-Seeing Eye.
General level Info:
Ceilings: Unless otherwise stated, hallways and rooms are 7 feet high.
Illumination: Luminescent corals and algae grow in the hallways and rooms, lighting them like a candle. In other areas, the PCs must rely on darkvision or their own light sources to navigate (though common torches, lanterns, etc. - unless designed for underwater use - are useless in flooded areas).
The group continues on down the ramp ...
Just so the new players know, when I put a room description (as follows below) in italics, it is a description copied (& sometimes edited to limit player knowledge) direct from the module.
The door in the South wall is a little difficult to see on the map, it is just south of Lonam's icon.
All of you see a blue-skinned, blue-haired humanoid clad in silvery mail. He’s accompanied by a hideous, four-legged orange crab monster (Medium size for game purposes, but may be referred to as large or huge.) with a small, blue, winged creature (Size small) sitting on its back. They are on the stairs leading down into some water.
The blue humanoid looks at you with a frustrated expression, and in Aquan says, "Go away! I'm busy."
You can go back up the ramp, or try taking the door in the southern wall, or try talking to the humanoid. *** As a reminder, only those who know Aquan currently know what it said.
Boudacia
Can anyone understand him?
