Discussion thread for The Dire GM's table of SFS #1-12: Ashes of Discovery (tier 1-4)
My "Table Rules" -
0 - RL > Game. No other rules trump rule 0! :D
1 - I'd like it if everyone posted once a day Mon-Fri. Friday night through Sunday night is eh-whatever (I am in US Eastern Time, for reference). I'll try to post when I can over weekends, but I know people have lives and won't always be online, so no worries.
2 - If you don't post in the middle of an "action" scene for a day, you get skipped once (or botted if your action would be super obvious or you leave a note to me or another player "proxying" your character). If you don't post a second time, you get "botted" by me to do something simple (usually just attack or aid another). If we get into the 3-5 range, I'll probably drop you a line off-list to see what's up. If it goes on too long...well, I hate dropping people from games, but it unfortunately happens :(
3 - When you've got a saving throw to make, roll that first before posting anything else.
4 - Feel free to roll perception and sense motive whenever you want, and if you have a reroll, feel free to use that anytime as well.
5 - Have fun! Rule 5 trumps all other rules! :P

After the briefing and initial info/culture checks, I'll ask you to slot boons and such, but until then - the above is all I need.
Thanks very much, and I look forward to running this scenario for you! :)

Five present and accounted for so far (and nice to see those of you who I know from the VO boards or who have played with me before)! I think that's enough that I can at least post the briefing! :)
Away we go!

Hi Aldane. In taking a really close look through this scenario, there are a few parts where having 7 PCs won't be a problem (starship combat, skill challenges), but about half of the scenario takes place in relatively tight quarters (rooms, hallways, etc.). My usual rule for those kinds of situations are to see if any of the PCs have "pets" (summoners/druids in PFS, mechanics w/drones in SFS). Since this party does, in fact, have a mechanic with a drone - there will already be 7 pieces on the board. So unfortunately for this run-through I don't think I can take a 7th :(
That said! This scenario was a fun read and was neat to prep...plus it's repeatable, so I'm very likely to be running it again in the not too distant future! If you put your name on the "wishlist" on my sign-up sheet, I'll make sure you get seat #1 if you're free when I run this one again (probably right after I finish this game, in fact).
I'm sorry that I can't accommodate you with this one.

Slotless boons don’t take up any of your character’s slots; they are in essence always active. There is no limit on how many slotless boons you can have active at a time. Some slotless boons are tagged as “limited-use.” These boons grant a benefit a limited number of times, either once per boon or a limited number of uses indicated by a series of check boxes. In most cases, you do not need to continue keeping track of a limited-use boon once it has been expended. Rarely, a limited-use boon may include additional or altered rules in the description of the individual boon.
I haven't played or GM'd Dead Suns, but one of my local players has told me that the Sunrise Maiden boon is limited-use with a single check box in front of it. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

It’s true that it has a checkbox, but nothing on the boon remotely implies that you check it off when used. Other boons have had such verbiage in the past.
I don’t interpret it as a one shot use. It’s limited use is that it is only for APl 1-4.

▫ Loaned Ship: Sunrise Maiden (Starship Boon; Limited-Use):
Unfortunately, the language in the guide and the boon aren't open to interpretation. That said, if you've already used it but weren't aware of it, I don't punish players for simple mistakes - in my own lodge I've let a player use this ship a second time under the exact same circumstance.

Just fyi, having a bit of a minor medical thing + rough evening, but I'll be back to normal posting by tomorrow afternoon at the latest.

Heya gang. So, Noral (Iseph) has informed me that they have to drop out of the game. Given that we're already about a third of the way through the scenario, I consulted with a fellow GM and we both agreed that grabbing a different player wouldn't be fair to them, since the spaceship combat is one of the scenario's highlights. As such, we're going to continue with 5. I'll be posting to the gameplay thread shortly to continue on.
(And thanks, Florent!)

Personal aside: I love the fact that Eselar is an Iomedean Star Knight, given that one of my characters is affiliated with the Knights of Golarion.

I’m on travel this week and don’t have a computer. So on phone this week until Saturday. And don’t mind if I need to be botted.
Also GM I have a drone. I don’t mind leaving it on the ship or roll the past saves to progress forward with it?
The Dire GM

So, due to a medical thing, I won't be at origins after all, so I'm still okay to post this week. That said, even though your characters can set the pace, you basically have two options - confront the Exile, or return to your ship.

So for a moment there I forgot that I can actually look up your reputation(s), and decided to do so rather than continue to hold up things for everyone else just because Tinker hasn't responded yet.
Eselar - I show you starting at 9 (rather than 4) reputation with the Exo-Guardians, unless you have boons not listed on your character sheet.
X5NSA - I also show you starting at 9 (rather than 4) reputation, unless you also have boons that you didn't list.
Kiv - You have some anomalies in your reported games, so I'm going to have to withhold your chronicle sheet until I consult with one of the Online Venture Officers.
Everyone else, I should have your chronicles posted shortly.

Again, thank you for playing!

Eselar - d'oh! My bad! I posted a corrected version just now!
Kiv - Your chronicle is now posted as well!
The Dire GM

The game has now been reported as well. I'll leave this thread active until early next week just in case anyone has any questions for me. Other than that, thank you to all for playing, and bon chance!

Alrighty, ladies and gents - I'm going to mark the game as inactive. Thanks again for playing!
