"Eh, you look like you've got it under control." Efin said, watching as Dennis pushed at the door. That, and while she was actually stronger than she looked, she wasn't a true warrior type who could bench-press armored horses or whatever. Best to leave that kind of thing to those who could exert their full force and have it count for something.


Dennis gives the door a good shove and it breaks free and opens. A stone bench lines the southern wall of this chamber. At the far side of the room, a basin of water sits atop a stone pedestal. A stone door engraved with an image of a hammer stands to the north.


"I need to rest, moving on this twisted leg is much more tiring than I imagined." Argus says somewhat despondently.

Kel and Shimmer:
Something deeper is bothering Argus. The leg is just an excuse. He seems very depressed suddenly.


"Perhaps we should split up so that those of us that can move full speed can get to the surface faster and send aid to the others." Horgus mutters. You all get the feeling he is actually suggesting that they should abandon Argus.


"I'm not surprised that a man afraid to acknowledge his own faith wouldn’t be moved by a forgotten temple like this, and that to be ashamed of one’s faith is as bad as worshiping demons." Argus shouts as he explodes in anger at Horgus's remark.


Horgus is shocked and seems embarrassed at first, but recovers quickly and replies contemptuously, "How ironic to be chided by someone who consorts with thieves!"

At this, you see Argus choke down his anger and go into a sullen silence to prevent further arguing.

"Don't be silly." Efin said, glancing back towards Horgus. "Safety in numbers and all that. We could just as easily make the conclusion that anyone who can't fight well could be left behind because they would just be targets if demons jumped out at us - but we are not like the demons, and that's not how we do things. If you really want to get out of here as quickly and safely as possible, don't whine and find a way to make yourself useful."

Thinking Efin addressed the inter party strife well enough, Dennis will check out the next door carefully. 24 perception, then open it if not trapped.


You already figured out it is a shrine to Torag. And no, Efin did not take care of the strife. In fact, it looks like both of them are dropping in attitude.

"Now that you two are done arguing, would either of you mind explaining what this place is and why it's been abandoned? Working together to figure out where we are is probably the best way to get back to the surface safely." Kaval things for a moment, then adds, "Not that the surface necessarily has any safety for us. It might be best to become very familiar with the tunnels down here, in case we need to retreat back to them from the demons up above."

Shimmer moves over to stand by Argus while Dennis opens the door and Kaval addresses the others. She had never had a good grasp on human relations, but the tactical aspects of her training said it was best to keep morale high. "You seem troubled. Would you wish to talk about it?"

Both of them just glare at Kaval when he speaks. Argus just shrugs at Shimmer's approach and turns away.

I guess we are waiting on Kel and then can move ahead.

Kel steps in and tries to mollify both Horgus and Argus.

And he seems to calm both of them down. Argus still looks depressed though.

When Dennis opens the inner door of the temple he sees broken stone benches that line this narrow room. The air is cold and stale, and thick layers of dust cover the floor, benches, and a large altar at the far end of the room.

Seated on one of the benches facing the altar, his back to you, a stocky hooded figure sits motionless, covered with an equally thick layer of dust. His stature and size appear to be that of a Dwarf.

Kel found a spot for Argus to sit. "Here, why don't you get off that leg. Even with a splint and a crutch it still can't be fun to move around."

Kel leaned against the wall and slid down until he was sitting on the floor.

I'll expand on those rolls you made GM. I'm going to try to get him to open up a little. Maybe he'll say what's nothing him if he starts talking about getting back home.


Argus looks at Kel and his black mood seems to lift some at his words.
"It is this shrine. It reminds me of Irabeth. I wonder about her safety with what happened up there and chaff at my inability to not be with her in danger."

Efin thumped Argus' back - lightly, given his wounds. "I'm sure she can take care of herself, and there's no point in blaming yourself for things you can't control." the Warpriest said gently. "If you really want to help her, stay focused on the job at hand - that'll help us get back to her faster and more effectively than anything else."

As Dennis approaches the figure, it stands and turns to face you, years of dust cascading off of his cloak. This rotting and decaying humanoid is dressed in defiled and tattered priestly vestments. Worms crawl and slither into and out of its eye sockets, rib cage, and other decaying areas of its rotting form.

Withut hesitation, Efin snapped one hand up and focused on the creature after she took a five-foot step to get into range. A bolt of white-hot celestial energy darted out of her fingers a moment later, aiming to burn into the creature and soften it up a little.

moderate DR, overcome by silver or magic. No SR, Will is its strength. The creature is a Huecuva.

The bolt of fire hits the creature, burning bits of rotted flesh from its bones. It then lashes out at Dennis.

It lays open a deep gash with its claw on Dennis's neck.

"Aw hell," Kel said, scrambling to his feet and drawing his sword. He couldn't see the commotion, but he'd heard plenty of battles. He rushed inside to help.

Shooting her magical flames into melee was probably not the best option she had - and with another step forward to get in range, Efin focused for a moment, then punched out as hard as she could, fully intending to shatter the foe's body with a brutal strike.

Pummeling Style - make attack rolls as normal, but hits only once and damage is cumulative. Very handy for overcoming DR when you fight unarmed. XD

I generally prefer to just have the GM tell me whatever he thinks I would know about the specific creature, but if you prefer I can ask questions. Generally my character would care most about DR or Special Defenses, Immunities/Resistances, and nasty special attacks, in that order.

Kaval moves up, swinging his foot wide and a wave of flame rolls out in its wake.

Move up to 10 ft away, cast burning hands so it only hits the enemy.

"Fear my vicious kick, abomination!" Kaval croaks, as his spell is largely ineffective.

@ Efin, the confirm roll is at your highest bonus, with all the modifiers from your attacks, so the flurry would still count as a modifier.

@ Kaval, you know from the knowledge check that your attacks cannot overcome its DR, so if you wish to change your action, you may.

The creature takes some damage from the different fire attacks. Efin gets through with two hits as well, though she feels her damage was not as effective. Everyone else fails to damage it. It continues to attack Dennis.

"This guy is tougher than he looks," Kaval remarks as he produces a small slip of paper and begins casting a spell from it. As a ripple seems to pass over his body, Kaval leaps to defend the fallen man.

Recon: Dennis dodges as Mel quickly throws his shield in the way and is able to cause the creature to miss Dennis with its second attack. Seeing his strikes are ineffectual, Kaval quickly reads a scroll to enhance his attacks. Efin steps back and gives Dennis some much needed healing and Shimmer mosses her target.

Just need Kelp and Dennis to go.

I will be flying most of today. I will probably poser again around 1AM EST.

Dennis hits a vulnerable spot and Kell strikes a solid blow as well. It turns its attention to Kell and lashes out.

And misses badly. Beset on all sides, it hisses in frustration.

Dennis, don't forget that Efin healed you 3 points.

Efin watched as the others pounded on the creature, then shrugged and stepped back again, wishing she had holy spells that could just... punch through undead. Alas, she wasn't quite that talented - so instead, she simply readied another shot of holy fire to heal anyone else who might get struck by the beast.

Ready Action: Use Heavenly Fire on anyone besides Dennis who gets hurt.
