I figure he spent a couple of rounds stripping Kib's body of gear. (Gnolls to the rear, mincemeat Giant) The battle rsumed with giantess, attempt to read/identify scroll (1of5)_2~3 rounds. TL:DR, Gnolls getting closer, words of Pito echoing in his head Giantess tougher. Can't abandon his friends nor the mission.
As Hon peruses the first scroll to make sense of the dancing squiggly magic, the lines just do not settle down. Hearing the combat and cognizant that time was running out behind him. Gonna get crowded soon. One battle at a time.
Grabbing Kib by the scruff of his tunic, looking back then forward, "I'll have to make arrangements later my brother." Letting go, holding the stuffed haversack in one hand and the spear in the other, Hon hustles back to the steps, and following the sounds of battle, makes his way upwards."Oh Look what we have here. A Giant's Head."
He tosses all gear except the spear into bottom corner of stairs. Stabs the giant head unto the short spear, and the gruesome spectacle advances up the stairs. Hon moves the spear to make the jaws mimic speaking,

Ghanrik Earthshield |

More shouting comes from downstairs. "Please get us outta 'ere! I can provide ye healing to help ye kick them blasted giants arses!"
Mainly doing this so I can see the updates and be added to the campaign. Continue on! :P I've been cheering you all on since I got selected

The giantess swings her mighty sword at Gallak.

Party up in any order
The faint shouts from the prison are answered with a few gruff voices in common. "Shut up in there. We may want to finish off the prisoners before we take off. The dwarves are kind of lean, not much meat on them."

Gallak Fangbreaker |

Gallak's blood splashes against the stone walls, running down the steps in rivulets. Though cut clear across the chest, his ribs sundered, the white dwarf barely registers the hit. A deathly quiet fills his ears, the soft ring of bloodlust quelling the pain.
Gallak's inward calm is in stark contrast to his outward torrent of astonishing power and resolve.
What his attack lacks in execution and technique he makes up for with sheer power.
Attack: 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 10 + 2 + 1 = 21
Damage: 1d12 + 9 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 9 + 2 + (2) = 15
Another one like that and I'll be down. If I go under I exit rage, and that'll be it for my melee contributions. Still got one figment, though. Let's hope it holds.

Kragg Stoneheart |

Kragg rounds the corner in time to hear Gallak get hit by another giant. Not being able to reach the giant this turn Kragg uses the wand and targets Gallak with the healing ability. Once completed, he drops the wand and grips the Urgrosh in both hands ready to join the fray next round.

Best I can do for you this round Gallak. Once the stairs clear I can get in until she drops me in 2 rounds.

Hon's hears perk up over the unfamiliar dwarven voices coming from below. He looks at the head on his spear and combat above. Shakes his own head,"Yeah, not gonna repeat my uselessness." Shucking the head off the spear, plows down and around the staircase. Concerned that sounds of combat might draw reinforcments, he remains flush against the inside wall. Alert to any giants guarding the hoosgow.

Ghanrik Earthshield |

Maybe your next two will be double nat 20s? *crosses fingers*

![]() |

Lets RP my nat 1's, shall we? :-)
Hon skulking flush inside wall leaves a bloody trail where his short spear scrapes against the wall. Once again, he has confused his inside voice with his outside voice. "Sneaky Hon, stay sneaky. Giants don't see me. Nope, I am just a shadow. Don't mind me. Sneak Sneak Take a peek. Where are those dwarf voices coming from? Hey, Nice architecture. Definitely dwarf hands involved. Probably dwarf slaves. Why is there bloody scrapes on the wall behind me. Ah crap, bloody clothes and gore on the spear. Nice. Idiot. Right. right. Sneak. Where am I?

Boog-Boog comes streaking into the chamber and quickly gives the gnolls some orders. The gnolls bow to Boog-Boog and rush down to the stairs to free the dwarves.
The giantess takes a shot from Nar and and a shot from Joan and bellows in rage. Gallak's shot is powerful, but turned aside by the mail coat the giantess is wearing. She returns with another strong overhead blow.
hit/damage/1-true Gallak: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (8) + 21 = 293d6 + 16 ⇒ (1, 5, 3) + 16 = 251d2 ⇒ 2
Hon rushes down the stairs to find himself face to face with two wild, shaggy white haired humans that look to be a cross between a human and a polar bear. They were speaking in the gruff tones previously.
They bellow in rage and rush Hon with large greatclubs.

Gallak watches as his last figment is dispelled by the giantess. Hon tries to sneak up on the guards, but the two guards hear him coming and rush to hammer him for a massive amount of bludgeoning damage 35 total. He falls to the ground.

Kragg Stoneheart |

I believe that if Joan and Nar move after their shots then Kragg can move up and attack the giant this round. Going with this assumption.
Delay till after Joan and Nar. Move and let me get some room to swing.
Knowing that there isn't much time left and that Gallak can't survive another shot like he previously, Kragg lifts his Urgrosh and swings mightily with the axe end hoping to strike true.

1 round of enlarge left by my count.

Gallak Fangbreaker |

Not many rounds left of rage. With the healing, Gallak can stick around for another round or even two, if she hits Kragg instead, or he could withdraw now and still have enough rage to address the roars and girly shrieks coming from downstairs.
Time for some thrilling heroics!
Attack: 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 10 + 2 + 1 = 27

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
It finally worked! I think...
As Kragg's massive Ugrosh swings overhead, Gallak uses the distraction to land a powerful uppercut with his own blade. A fine spray of acidic particles rush from the axe tip, melting flesh and polishing a swath of stone to a gleam. With that final blow, he ducks under the Giantess' reach and rolls down the stairs, flattening into a slide and coming to a stand on the lower landing near Joan.
This one's all yers, He says to Joan with a wink.

Joan hears Kragg's footsteps and only stays still long enough to line up and loose another arrow on the giantess before she scrambles out of the way.

Chainmail |

Joan's arrow strikes true as does Gallak and Kragg. The giant has taken a massive amount of damage, but her rage seems to be sustaining her along with a massive ton and a half frame.
The giantess attempts to cleave through Kragg to Nar.

-2 to AC for giant
Kragg is hit hard, but Nar is completely untouched.
The bear-like creatures grab Hon and run down the stairs in full retreat as the prisoners they are watching seem to be escaping. Although the prisoners have been cruelly treated at 20% of maximum hit points and -2 CON damage, the yetis seem content to depart with a single dwarf.
The giantess has taken massive damage, but is proving quite capable of taking it as well as dishing it out. Boog-Boog directs the gnolls to help release the prisoners and rushes after the yetis.
The human ranger seems to be stable but unconscious from his massive beating.
Party up

Chainmail |

As Boog-Boog takes charge you notice he seems to be more confident and assured now that the giant threat is at least held in check. The other gnolls seem to defer to him naturally.
With the yetis in full retreat through the freezing waters of the underground lake and the prisoners escaping from the dungeons below, the desperate struggle on the stairs below the giants' living quarters seems to be the only resistance.
Boog-Boog calls out in giant in a loud voice demanding the surrender of the giants, but it obvious the giantess is mad with rage and fighting with a vengeance over her dead mate.

Kragg Stoneheart |

Continuing to lay the smack down on the giantess in front of him Kragg hauls back with his Urgrosh to deliver yet another powerful blow.

As the ranger unloads on the giantess she is ready for the appearance of the ranger. The giantess can't retaliate to Joan putting an arrow into her midsection as Joan shelters behind Kragg. The giantess attacks the obstacles in her way to the ranger.

hit/damage: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 231d10 + 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (7) + (1, 2, 4) + 3 = 17
Unfortunately using cover causes the bolt to go high.
I think you have almost got to triple digits on her.

Chainmail |

I have been giving cover to big Kragg, I will have to see how it works with smaller Kragg. Instinctively, a large creature on higher ground with reach seems to be able to hit over a dwarf, but I'll check RAW.
Boog-Boog asks Joan: "Shouldn't we leave like the dwarf with the big axe? She is hitting hard!"
Edit: cover is indeed applicable

Nar Redgrave |

You don't provoke AoO with cover
Hoping to draw the giant's attention away from Joan, Nar shoots his ray of fire at the giantess
Ranged Touch 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 - 4 = 13
Fire Damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Will provoke, hoping he'll attack Nar (and miss) leaving Joan open to fire on it. AC 28, while prone effective AC is 24...could still miss...
If Still alive Nar will stand as well.

Gallak Fangbreaker |

Gallak used a move action to pick up and set down Nar. He need not stand. In addition, Nar has soft cover, giving him an additional +4 AC, for 32 total.
Gallak looks about for the hammer, ready to start using the weapon if nearby.
I'd like to drag Magnum where I can see he's not being murdered while unconscious, and use the hammer against the giant. If he's within fifty feet of my position, I'll grab the hammer next round.

Joan the Hunter |

Just an FYI, Joan is probably the squishiest of the group. 31 damage is enough to knock out Joan's 28 HP and then some. Thank goodness for cover.
Joan grits her teeth as more of her comrades are hurt.
"Not until she's dead."
She fires another arrow, her hand brushing the fletching of the Laen arrows she was desperately hoping to keep for a caster as she reaches for another arrow.
Attack PBS, FE, IC, Cover: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 8 + 1 + 2 + 1 - 2 = 22

Chainmail |

Gallak cannot move to Nar, heal Nar, and stand up Nar. Nar will end up prone in front of Joan and healed. Kragg is down. It is two rounds to Magnum outside the door where the gnomes originally were. The prisoners at 20% of their hit point total and -2 Con. In three rounds they can reach the giantess without armor.

Chainmail |

Nar is prone and unconscious at -1, but Gallak's cure light will bring him back. Boog-Boog and Joan were sheltering behind Kragg and Nar, but they are down. The giant is one big step from reaching the archers now.
Is Gallak returning to heal Nar (at -1)? Is Joan firing from around the corner (one five step from being on the front line with the giant)?
Gallak recognizes the rage of the giantess as similar to his rage, that of the unconventional fighter.
Will update tomorrow. Need the new characters made anyway before the end scene can resolve. I will miss Hon, but like the new fighter.

Chainmail |

Meanwhile, in the dungeon....
The freed dwarves and gnomes escape to the long corridor. The bloody battle is still raging up the steps in the giants' quarters. A back passage leads straight into an icy cold lake. There is the track of what was Hon's body as it was pulled into the lake with the yetis. Five scrolls lay discarded by the yetis as they do not appear to be the bookish types.Five scrolls Hon was perusing are left behind.
The gnolls yell in surpise as Boog-Boog charges up the stairs. One of them reluctantly follows with a battle axe drawn.

Gallak Fangbreaker |

Looks like that may be somewhat silly.. Still, healing Nar will buy a round, if only because then she'll probably kill him for real.
Joan, get back! She can't keep this up forever, we have to hold her in the door, or she'll tear us to ribbons in the open before she falls!
Gallak clearly points down the stairs, not back into the previous room, more out of intuition than strategy.

Chainmail |

With her strength from being enraged, the giantess easily grabs the battered body of her mate over her back with a mighty heave. Balancing the ton and a half weight over her huge back, she seems prepared to be ready to withdraw. She prepares to strike with a single gauntleted fist at the moment as she uses her offhand to balance the weight of a fully armored giant.
End of original Red Dawn (1984) anyone?

Joan the Hunter |

Never saw the end of it. Never saw the new one either. And yes, Joan is defiantly, and stupidly, standing within easy reach of the giantess. and will be taking another shot at her in a moment.
"YE AIN'T LEAVIN' THAT EASY!"
Rapid Shot 1: FE, PBS: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 8 + 2 + 1 - 2 = 23
Rapid Shot 2: FE, PBS: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 8 + 2 + 1 - 2 = 28
Damage 1: FE, PBS: 1d8 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 13
Damage 2: FE, PBS: 1d8 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 8
Joan sends two more arrows streaking into the giantess just a step away from being right next to her. Gallak's warning falls on deaf ears as the ranger gives in fully to her hatred.
If we've put triple digit damage into her, she's probably close to dying. Joan doesn't do a lot of burst damage, but at range she can kill most anything.

Gallak Fangbreaker |

I'm betting she's close to or even into the margin of hit points that rage buys you, which is basically double your HD, and even with diehard she cannot carry on indefinitely. The trick is to keep Joan alive long enough to see that end xP
Gallak wonders for a moment if Joan herself has not fallen into the red haze of battle, but sees she is driven not by bloodlust, but by hate.
Joan I read you still have 16 arrows, is that accurate?
Right, then we finish this here, The white dwarf says solemnly, his gaze falling on the broken form of Kib, lifelessly staring at the theoretical top of this spiral staircase.
He remembers Khazad, bravely rushing into battle only to be crushed to a pulp and cast aside like a heap of refuse, and Hon, lost in the depths of this place, and quiet now for too long. He spares a glance at Kragg, his leader, bleeding into the stone in this forsaken place, and Magnum, his face and body broken and bleeding someplace behind.
We finish HER here, he says with deadly finality, a new grip on his axe, and a new song on his lips.
I've actually been singing this whole time, technically, so Joan's Atk/Dmg last time is actually 24;29/14;9.
While hope it still re-mains, let the ham-mers fall!
and liquid i-ron tame! Sing the anvil's call!
Deep in moun-ain heart! Deep in rock-y hall!
