Ghilda Seaspray |
I presume that combat would start (and initiative) if I went up to the deck to cast my spell, correct?
Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |
Kung looks to the stairs with anticipation. "Kung is ready to go smash some heads. Are we ready to go smash the heads?"
Barnabus II |
As they make their way up the stairs Barnabus readies his slumber hex hoping that one or both sailors will still be alive later on to man the ship....
"I shall attempt to put them each into a deep slumber."
Slumber hex
Will save DC 17
Louisiana Jane |
Jane watches, ready to throw a bomb if it is needed.
GM_DBH |
Kipper init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Patch init: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Jane init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Kung init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Ghilda init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Barnabas init: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Marnir init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
You move up onto the dimly lit main deck, the night is cool and calm. Only a light breeze and a slight swell disturbing the silence.
Kung - Patch is to your left, only 10 feet away. Kipper is closer to the stern area.
Initiative kicks off as you reach the top deck.
Barnabas - 23.
Kipper - 20.
Marnir - 19.
Ghilda - 18.
Kung - 10.
Patch - 8.
Jane - 6.
Your icons are now on the map ready to be placed. All of you are on the deck when the fight begins.
Marnir Saltvig |
"Let's do it! Hard and fast, like the pirates we are!" Marnir mutters to the group, and follows Kung up the stairway. "Kung, you go for Kipper. I'll take Patch."
Marnir quickly scales the stairs and moves out low and fast onto the deck. Shield raised and axe glinting in the moonlight, he tries to take down Patch as quickly as he can. He struggles to hold back his normal war shout, knowing that in this fight quickly and quietly are more important.
Move Action to move up to Patch, Standard Action to axe him in his flat-footed face
Axe attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Ghilda Seaspray |
Marnir - I think you moved to Kipper.
Ghilda will stay near Kung, and place Guidance on him. "Blessings of Besmara on you!"
Marnir Saltvig |
So I did, got them the wrong way round. I'll take Kipper then.
Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |
Kung gets to the top of the stairs and sees the pirate close-by. He feels a rush of joy crawl over his skin; was that the night breeze out at sea, or the blessing of Besmara? Maybe both the same. He advances on the pirate (Patches, then?) and let's his body do what it knows how to do best.
Greatsword, power attack, guidance: 1d20 + 6 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 6 - 1 + 1 = 11
Damage, power attack: 2d6 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 6) + 6 + 3 = 16 Sneak Attack: 1d6 ⇒ 4 (assuming Patches is still flat-footed)
GM_DBH |
Barnabas uses the Slumber hex on Patch. Will save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 Patch slumps to the deck unconscious.
I rolled randomly to see who Barnabas hexed.
Kipper curses foully and steps back to the door of Pluggs cabin, hammering on it loudly and shouting "The bastards are mutinying!"
He sneers as Marnir's blow just misses him, slicing his shirt to reveal fine mail under it. His hands go to the short swords at this belt. "I'll make sure you die slow ya bastard!"
Patch screams in terror as his split second nap is interrupted by Kung slamming his great sword into him. Still confused Patch tries to scramble to his feet.
Kung you get an AOO, Patch still counts as flat footed & prone.
Jane are you coming on deck and having an action?
Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |
Kung almost recoils after his strike on Patch, as if to reverse his swing, only realizing after the attack that the man was in the process of falling to the ground, asleep.
Seeing the sputtering pirate struggle to get to his feet, Kung stops the backswing of his sword and brings it down in a huge arc towards the prone pirate's weapon.
Disarm, guidance: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 1 = 9 Should be vs. CMD -4 because of prone, right?
Ahh, the best laid plans never work when you roll a 2. And that gives our prone pirate an AoO. Oops.
Louisiana Jane |
Jane moves to the top of the deck, seeing how everyone is arranged, she doesn't want to hurt her own party member with splash damage, so she aims her crossbow and fires at Kipper.
XBow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1 Doubt that will hit.
Marnir Saltvig |
"S&*@!" Marnir snarls as his blow only succeeds at ripping Kipper's shirt. He takes a quick glance over his shoulder and calls out "Someone jam up the door to the forward cabin!" Turning back to his opponent, "Good luck with that, trollwhore!" he retorts at Kipper's threat.
GM_DBH |
Round two:
23 Barnabas turns and casts the slumber hex on Kipper.
Kipper will save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 Kipper slumps unconscious to the deck.
Marnir you can perform a Coup de grace on Kipper as he is helpless. An automatic critical hit. Roll your damage and Kipper will have to make a fortitude save or die.
Which means I need to backtrack. Patch is dead. The save is a Fortitude DC10 + the damage, Patch can't make a DC30 save.
And I can see why so many people say the Slumber hex is grossly overpowered!
Marnir Saltvig |
Slumber is great when used in moderation, given that for most parties it rapidly becomes save-or-die-to-coupdegrace which can get really old really fast.
Marnir squares up to Kipper ready to fight, when the pirate officer slumps to the deck. Seizing his opportunity before any reinforcements arrive, Marnir slits the man's throat with the edge of his axe.
Damage, x3 auto crit: 3d8 + 9 ⇒ (2, 3, 4) + 9 = 18 Fort save DC28 or die
Louisiana Jane |
Point-blank and Precise shot, no penalty. :)
Ghilda Seaspray |
Ghilda moves near Marnir, touches him, "Besmara guides you, faithful one." Guidance
Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |
Kung moves to Scourge's cabin, where he draws his own dagger and jams it in the door frame as he'd done below.
Strength: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Marnir Saltvig |
"Sounds like Plugg is up and about. Be ready!" Marnir shouts as he grips his weapon and shield and prepares for battle. He feels the light touch of Ghilda on his shoulder and suddenly feels braver and stronger. He nods appreciatively at her.
Marnir Saltvig |
"Ghilda, you and Kung made friends with Owlbear didn't you? Do you think you can persuade him to fight for us rather than Plugg?"
Ghilda Seaspray |
"If Owlbear comes out alone, let us disarm him - we can try to reason with him."
Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 haha nope
Kung moves across the deck to stand with the others. [ooc](double move action
He looks to Marnir for guidance. "What now, they come out? We go in?" He bounces the sword against his palm absent-mindedly, awaiting the action.
Louisiana Jane |
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Jane giggles a little. "Our beloved captain is still sleeping" she whispers. She looks towards where Plugg will be emerging. "We need to deal with the Owlbear handler and keep this under control. she moves towards the door that has those two and reloads her crossbow.
GM_DBH |
You wait until the door opens. A very unhappy Owlbear bursts out of the cabin, followed by a desperate Plugg. "Mutiny! All hands on deck!" He screams in a shaky voice.
Plugg Init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Owlbear Init: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13
Scourge perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Barnabas - 23.
Marnir - 19.
Ghilda - 18.
Owlbear - 13
Kung - 10.
Plugg - 6 Before Jane due to higher dex.
Jane - 6.
Ghilda Seaspray |
Hmmm...going to try this because I think Owlbear could use it...
Ghilda moves and touches Owlbear with Resistance "Fight the good fight, servant!"
Marnir Saltvig |
"They come to us," Marnir replies,"gives us more space to work." He waits nervously until the door flies open and Owlbear and Plugg emerge. Marnir steps up, his axe blade glinting in the lantern light, and strikes at Plugg.
Standard Action to attack Plugg
Axe attack+guidance: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 1 = 10
His swing goes wide and Marnir adjusts his stance ready for the counterattack.
Ghilda Seaspray |
Ghilda backs away towards the center of the ship, ready to strike or aid her comrades. "Good, Owlbear!!"
Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |
Owlbear is currently positioned between Kung and Plugg on the map; based on your description, that's no longer the case, so this post assumes that space is empty. I've moved Owlbear to a suggested location; please correct my move if I'm off-base. If your positioning of Owlbear makes Kung's action not possible, let me know and I'll update.
Kung smiles at Owlbear's deception. "Yes, Owlbear! Good friend! You see Plugg, we run a ship by making friends, not enemies!" Marnir says to make space, I can do that. Kung moves backwards a couple of steps (10', position updated on map), drawing his new boarding pike as he moves. He drops his greatsword, and grips the boarding pike to attack. He wills it to grow longer, smiles when it does, then strikes at the cornered 'false' captain. (Boarding Pike threatens at Reach 20' for 1 round)
Boarding Pike of Repelling, power attack: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 7 - 1 = 12
Damage, power attack: 1d8 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 3 = 12
Louisiana Jane |
Since the honorable captain is now outnumbered, Jane points her crossbow at him. "Be wise and give up." She says Before his turn if i could say that. If he doesn't give up, Jane will fire. XBow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
GM_DBH |
Plugg makes no move to attack, trusting in his armor he slips away from.
AOO's from Kung and Marnir.
Making for the port boat. Profession (Sailor) checks please.
He clambers up into it when Jane's bolt slams into his side, throwing her a hateful look he continues getting into the boat.
Scourge Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Damn 'Divide and conquer' Works too well. Of course Scourge would need to wake up first! :(
Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |
"Uh oh, no, not that way!"
Boarding Pike, power attack: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 7 - 1 = 20
Damage, power attack: 1d8 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 3 = 18
Profession (sailor): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Marnir Saltvig |
Marnir strikes at Plugg as the coward turns to make his escape in one of the ship's boats.
Axe attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Profession (sailor): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
GM_DBH |
Marnir your blow just misses by a hair as Plugg slithers away.
As he nears the ships boat you can see that it isn't secured properly, in fact all he needs to do is slash the single rope holding it on and he'll be in the water. You note there seems to be a collection of chests and crate under a canvas on the boat.
Plugg gasps as he's badly wounded by Kung when passing him, blood running from his wounds as he staggers away desperately reaching out to the boat.
New round:
Barnabas tries the Sleep spell since his hex failed, Plugg Will save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13 "Yes!" he hisses in joy as Plugg slumps to the deck asleep.
Scourge Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Ok, Scourge deserves a horrible death with his complete lack of perception for this fight!
Marnir, Ghilda, Kung and Jane your actions please.
Louisiana Jane |
Jane moves and grabs the rope, freshly cut, and ties up the scum.
Ghilda Seaspray |
Ghilda moves to stand by the boat and Plugg (and to flank him).
Profession (Sailor): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Marnir Saltvig |
Marnir sees Jane and Ghilda run over to the sleeping Plugg. "Keep him tied up, but don't be afraid to stick him if he tries anything," he calls as he moves towards the forward cabin.
"Shall we wake him up?," Marnir asks Kung with a mischievous-looking grin, motioning with his axe towards the door to Scourge's cabin.
Double Move to get to the door of the cabin
Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |
Kung smiles and nods at Marnir, following the man to Scourge's door, stowing the boarding pike and picking up his greatsword along the way. He grips the dagger hilts, ready to release them so that they can enter. When he sees that Marnir is in position, he pulls the daggers from the door frame. (Assuming that we're out of combat rounds for the moment. If not, the above looks to be four move actions total.)
Strength: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
He stows them and draws the greatsword, ready to enter the cabin. (Which would be a standard plus two move actions.)
GM_DBH |
Without his hefty waxed coat Scourge is a painfully skinny man. As the door crashes open he rolls out of his hammock with a screech of terror. Blinking in the dim light of the cabin as the two hulking figures advance on him menacingly. "I'm not one of them! They press ganged me. Don't kill me, I surrender!"
