A quick note:
I'm still new at running scenarios and to GM-ing in general. When running encounters, I've found that in PbP, most GMs take the actions of whatever group is up in the order that they are posted. I will run encounters the same way. So, while according to initiative, Krux is before Marduk, if Marduk posts first, his action will be resolved first.
Unless you specify in your post that you want your action to take place in your actual initiative time.
Also, I'll likely screw something up along the way. Please correct me swiftly if something is amiss.

Regarding the Reach: the statblock in the scenario specifies that the thugs have a 10 foot reach. Though it doesn't specify why they have reach, I suppose it is chalked up to modified spiked chains.
Regardless, Marduk's attack would not actually go off. On his turn, he made a double move, so he could not ready an attack. He posted that it was an AoO. If the thug moved adjacent to Marduk and attacked with a standard spiked chain, it would not draw an AoO, as it is a melee weapon and attacking with a melee weapon does not (normally) trigger an attack of opportunity.
I could rule that Marduk can use that readied AoO roll as his attack for this round, but I'd like to give some of the rest of you a chance to attack.

Ooops, I forgot that Marduk did try another attack after the thug failed to do anything useful. But Marduk's attack didn't hit.
