I have returned.

Male Human Paladin / 5th Level - Lawful Good [Init +4 | Per +1 | SM -2 | Stealth +13 | Diplomacy +10 | F +8 R +8 W +5 | AC 18 (T 13, FF 15) | CMD 22 | Speed 20' | HP 43]

I think we may have a logistical issue. The quest log indicates that we are to look for survivors of the shipwreck. It seems that the survivors would have a better chance at surviving if we looked for them sooner rather than later. But, a week's gone by and then we have the quarry search before we can even venture forth to look for them. Is this a problem? Do we care? Should we care?

I think the game freezes everything that is not happening immediately around the characters. If we walk closer to the wreck, they'll start washing up on the shores, but right now they are in suspended animation, waiting on our presence to start dying again. lol

Yes it does! National Geographic has good explanation of Schrodinger's Cat/Survivors here: https://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2013/08/130812-physics-schrodinger -erwin-google-doodle-cat-paradox-science/

*Pulls back the curtain slightly*

I'm not going to be a jerk and suddenly say, "While you all were partying for a week, 10,000 lizardfolk surround the town and kill everyone inside because you didn't stop them during the last seven days, hahaha!" That wouldn't be fun for anyone, and is against the spirit of the adventure.

But, having said that, I still want your actions to have consequences. You can't ignore the lizardfolk problem *forever*, and if you did, there would be major repercussions. So with the wreck, the longer you wait to rescue the survivors of the wreck, the less likely there will be to have survivors at all. Just like if you miss Abkhazia on the autumnal equinox, something negative will happen. Neither quest is game-breakingly important, but there will be a proportionally appropriate consequence. This game wouldn't be fun if you always know you're going to win every time. Making your choices matter and affect the world means that there have to be both good and bad consequences.

And if time really did pause, well, then it'd be just like a video game, and what I love about Pen-and-paper RPGs (or Screen-and-text-based-dice-roller RPGs...) is the much truer sense of freedom and unconstrained possibility. A computer wouldn't know what to do about a PC wanting to be mayor (especially the barbarian...), but with me as GM? Go for it! We can make anything work.

*pulls curtain hastily shut before they see that there's really not that much going on behind it*

Looks like we're going to need some "Disable Device" help and only the two Dwarfs have this skill. Maybe we could just set fire to the place and burn 'em out. The fire won't damage the ore. . .

Male Half-Orc Barbarian 4 [Init +2 | Per +14, SM +0 | F +7, R +2, W +2 | AC 12 (T 8, FF n/a(Uncanny Dodge)) | CMD 21 | Speed 40' | Darkvision 60' | HP 48 | RageHP 60]

Oldies trap disablement consists of sprinting through the mines flailing his arms and screaming. He gets a plus-one to his AC on traps and plus 1 to his reflux a Von trapp's as of third level.

Since when do we have disable device? I’m for the burn em out if we can make it work, the only problem would be if there are wooden supports...wouldn’t want our reward buried under tons of rock

Plus, boring. I mean I'm usually all for fire, but we'd also lose any chance of finding new loot. Let's explore it like a short dungeon.

You correct. You two don't have Disable Device (add this to our weakness list). Was looking at your stat sheet and saw a positive number in the ability column, but should have checked the Total column. My bad.

Not to be overly picky, but with all the time between posts, sometimes things pop in my head that otherwise wouldn't, what kind of quarry has a roof? Isn't the definition of a quarry essentially a roofless mine. If it has a roof, surely it's a mine or a dungeon or a cave or a halfling hole (no offense to Mud intended).

Temple of Theseus, Chimera Cove, Andoran | Kuthona (Dec) 22, 4719 Part Three Map: The Sexton and the Saint

...

The gnome is not the most... technical, with regards to his "quarry."

(Honestly I just said "quarry" to begin with, but found this great map for a "mine" and didn't even think about the difference. Until now, that is.)

Slight tangent: I don't like the way Pathfinder does animal intelligence. Lots of animals can use tools, communicate with simple speech/body language, and problem solve. But in Pathfinder all animals have such a low intelligence, that a 3 Int human means you're markedly more intelligent than a chimpanzee or an elephant. I feel like 6 is a better cap for animal intelligence than 2.

random question, if a giant tried to attack of opportunity me, would I have 26 ac or is there a stacking issue somewhere?

I agree and would recommend that the GM institute any rule modification necessary to make this a better reality for our game play. We may want to keep Odie the way his is! . . . Just kidding.

Also I think the Laying on of Hands for healing is equally suspect for reasons mentioned earlier. I would not object to a GM rule change that made LoH more equitable to the intended function. Might I suggest the following possibilities:
1. Max value (no die rolling) - 2d6 is always 12 HP healed.
2. Determine the max value and the range is one-half of that to the max value. Example: 2d6 would become 1d6 + 6
3. First die is always max (similar to our crit. rule) and the others are rolled, but one's are always rerolled.
4. Any die roll less than the mid-point is rerolled. Example: for 2d6 if either d6 roll is a 1, 2 or 3, it is rerolled until it is > 3.
5. Healing is character level + 2d6. This would result in 2d6 + 4 for a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 16. If the max is too high it could be capped at 12.

Male Dwarf Tower Shield Specialist (Level 6) [Init+1 | Per:+5 | SM:+1 | F:+9 R:+5 (+2 vs burst) W:+5 (+3 vs Sp,SLA,Poison) | AC: 25(T:10 FF:24) (+2 vs crit) | CMD:25 (+8 vs Bull Rush/+4 vs Overrun & Trip) | Speed:30ft | HP:51]

To Ood - In general, most bonuses have Types, and you can only have on bonus of a specific type. To use your example, you would have your Racial Bonus to AC vs Giants added to your Dodge Bonus from attacks of opportunity. To make it more confusing, you also have a Dodge Bonus from the Dodge feat, but Dodge bonuses are one of the few exceptions to the No Stacking rule. You can have as many dodge bonuses as you want and they will all stack. there are also Untyped Bonuses that will stack with anything and with eachother, but they are kind of rare I think.

To GM - I also agree on the animal intelligence thing. It makes you wonder though, are attribute points linear? is a jump from a 2-3 the same as from 12-13?

Male Human Paladin / 5th Level - Lawful Good [Init +4 | Per +1 | SM -2 | Stealth +13 | Diplomacy +10 | F +8 R +8 W +5 | AC 18 (T 13, FF 15) | CMD 22 | Speed 20' | HP 43]

I think Odie's loss of intelligence should qualify as another unconscious count in the stats or we need a new stat for loss of ability to a debilitating level.

It seems that we are blindly following Mud's suggestion to go left down the stairs to the next encounter. I would say that we are being railroaded, but we are leaving the rails and tracks behind for stairs. So it's all good. Onward and downward we go.

Mud's just your friendly reminder of a GMPC to move things along. Left or right is of no matter to me.
