I think my patience wore out before I reached book 6. Is it something that's going to gross me out?
I stopped reading the series after book 7 came out > I had waited over a year after reading book 6 and was so angry at the writer (may he RIP) that I quit.
Good luck Monkeygod > it's undoubtedly better reading them all through now since all of the books are finally out.HP roll for Thumparr: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Has anyone ever read the old classic "King Solomon's Mines"? Published 1885. I am amazed at how much all modern fantasy/adventure fiction steals from the book. Even Tolkien takes events from that book. No channeling though.
Hedge what's the name of your 1E 2E pbp campaigns? Are they on Paizo messageboards?
hedgeknight
Seven? Try 20 years > that's how long it took from book 4 to the latest release.
Edit:
My 1E campaign is over on rpol.net entitled Greyhawk Adventures - we are doing the "L" series; the group is currently storming Bone Hill!
My 2E game is just getting started at unseenservant.com - it is entitled Hedge's Forgotten Realms Adventures
Yeah, generic names I know - but I didn't want to name them something specific because I like to do a lot of moving around, allowing players to somewhat dictate the direction of the game.

I actually just discovered HRH recently. I read She, and had about the same reaction as you're talking about, Owlbeard. It's classic, and it pretty much sets the type for every fantasy femme fatale since.
And hedge ... I didn't know it was going to be 20 years back then. back then it was supposed to be a mere 9 or 10 books and they were coming out about once a year.
Monkeygod
I've actually read the entire series, sans the most recent of course, before.
However it had been a real long time since I had read most of them, often right around as soon they came out.
Book six features what is to me, one of the most epic battles in the whole series.
Yes, it does drag a fair amount in the mid books, though from Crossroads of Twilight on, the series PICKS UP a huge amount. Gathering Storm and Towers of Midnight, the two books from Brandon Sanderson are amazing and I can **NOT** wait to read a Memory of Light.

I know! I didn't "discover" the series until book 3 came out, so I read all three back to back thinking it was going to be a trilogy. Man, was I surprised...LOL!

Good luck Eyotah! Maybe post a link to your submittals if you feel like it:)
Here it is.
Maltheus
Hi all
i've been lurking and enjoying the story for a while and am glad to get the chance to help build this story with you
the character i'm bringing in is a human paladin of erastil, seems more of a ranger and woodsman but tries to uphold his ideals by action and example,
here's a bit from his background
Maltheus is a practical man, leading by example he lives his code and only interferes on others affairs when needed, as is the case when innocent are threatened or in danger he has a strong sense of fairness but understands that nature law is harsh and sometimes it may seem even cruel
thought from Chelaxian stock, his attire seems more Soathi, his demeanor and dress betray him as a hunter and woodsman, his weapons seem more tools than weapons, Axe and hunting knife well maintained but not overly ornate, his bow is of exceptional quality but practical
thanks and lets get these goblins!
Maltheus
thanks!
i've played with hedgeknight in the past and he turned me on to this game, and gotta say, he was right! from what i've read so far this is a really good game
Maltheus is a bit rough for a paladin :) but's got the best intentions at heart :)
a bit more on his background
Maltheus was born in the town of Ilsurian raised by his father who was a woodsman and like all citizens of Ilsurian was required to be able to defend the city should the time come when Korvoza try to re-annex it to their territory, a strong sense independence, when he was a boy, his father was executed by the Korvosa state, captured in the town of Biston and accused of fomenting succession for the town of Biston, he did not know the details but knew his father would not abide injustice, when this happened he fled to the Aswood forest, he was not being persecuted but being a boy and knowing what his father had taught him about the woods he thought he would be safe there and disregarding his father’s advice he went deep, further than he had ever gone, the priests of Erastin found him torn and bloodied, the fact that he survived was seen as a sign of favor from Erastil and was raised by them thought the ways and when older allowed accompany the priests patrols of the forests there he learned why his survival was seen as an omen, the forest was haunted by ghosts and werewolves and even darker creatures, the order of Erastil would patrol the edges of the forest to keep such horrors at bay protecting the travelers, farmers as they had to traverse to trade, when he was of age he left the re region keeping the orders goals at heat he moved to the Churlwood forest where it was known to sometimes serve to criminals as hideout, he has lived there for a couple of years now and spends Much of the year in a Hunting cabin deep in the forest, where he hunts and makes sure to protect the traders coming through to sale their harvest from the shady characters that make their home in his forest as well , the coming of spring marks the beginning of the season and the festival at sand point the place to go to trade the furs from last season’s hunts, it is usually good time but this trip the caravan he was accompanying was ambushed by bandits, they were able to fend them off but many were wounded, they secured the bandits as prisoners to turn in to authorities at sandpoint but the events and wounded meat they did not arrive on time to the festival, when arriving and learning of the attack on the town and the people who helped fend off the goblis he decided to try and meet them , talking to towns folk found their whereabouts and went to find them

Thumparr Wow, I just realized that last time you logged on your computer was probably screaming at you that there were like 19 new posts...sorry. We can move slower. I've been posting way more than I though I would be able to. You sure do suck at rolling dice though.
Hey man > not complaining at all about the pace of the game - just the opposite - we're clipping along, getting stuff done, and I love it! Trust me when I say, I've been in enough pbp games in the past 10 years to know when the DM has his/her $#!+ together and you are doing a mighty fine job of keeping us moving. I've dropped out of more games than I can count due to slow posting, with the game moving at a snail's pace. Drives me crazy. It's not the way I run my games and I don't appreciate it from the games I commit to. Maltheus has been a player in my games for years and he can vouch for the truth in what I'm saying.
So, keep it going, man! I'm loving it!
Edit: the dice roller, however, sucks balls! We hates it forever!!
Maltheus
the roller likes the paladin!
dude, don't let hedgeknight give you ideas! it'll be a TPK before you know it ;)
pace is good for me, short posts and lets keep going,
sometimes RL creeps up and get in the way of gaming so lets enjoy it while we can!
DM Owlbeard
Yeah, 500 posts...we rock. It's awesome everyone is sticking with the game!
It's funny you should mention my 'preparation' hedge, because I was just thinking today that I haven't been keeping a running list of treasure i've doled out, and you guys are probably going to want to go shopping before too long...I'm going to have to go thread hunting, haha!
Dairkal
Menelei hasn't posted for a week. Not sure if that means she's gone for good, but without her, we lack a healing. Yes, Mal is a Paladin, but he is clearly more combat focused.
Do we think we need a 5th at all, healer or otherwise?
Maltheus
hey owlbear, about the preparation, i wanted to ask you how do you add the coordinate grid to the map? i can see that helping a lot on some games,
had fun roleplaying this part,
any clues on the demon lady? i'll read back and see if there are any clues on that or other leads,
a cleric would be nice, but we can rough it if needed, we can buy some cure light potions or a wand to get by
DM Owlbeard
Yeah you don't need the cleric. But she's a great player.
Maltheus: Your not going to believe it. Just open your map with Microsoft paint brush (yes, I mean that little doodling application all computers ocme with but you've never had a use for!). Now just hit Ctrl+G to turn the grid on.
Maltheus
hey guys, if it helps and allowed i could make Maltheus a cleric of erastil, maybe keep 1 level of paladin and 1 of cleric,i'd adjust the stats a bit but it would still fit the concept i drawn for him and would also align with the story so far,
let me know what you think
DM Owlbeard
I was just wondering something: I notice that when we do checks, the characters who do perceive or know something never seem to tell the others what they hear/see/know. Not even a 'did you guys hear that?' comment. Is there a reason for that? The knowledge is fair game for the whole group, right? I always thought the purpose of the check wasn't to hide information from characters with lower scores, but to give the information out in a way that facilitates role playing.
Dairkal
For me, it always depends on the given situation. Right now, Dair has no idea what he heard, or even if he really did hear something, so he's keeping it to himself, but did ask Ameiko.
Other times, I'll definitely share, and then there's always a few times when I want to keep what I've learned a secret.
DM Owlbeard
I agree pbp is freakin strange. I didn't intend any intrigue with this treasure room, it's pretty strait forward: there is a creature in that room, right out of the monster manual. Ameiko is warning everyone that whatever it is it's dangerous, perhaps beyond your level. I thought everyone did a great job roleplaying through this situation and i'll probably dole out XP for it later. And you can all certainly come thump this creature and take it's stuff 'D&D style' later in the game if you feel like it. You've got some clues as to what it might be. Let's see, a big persian rug with a transmutation aura that almost made Boo pass out. An 'airy' voice asking to be released from whatever is containing it. Hmmm.
