Daelric Morieth |

I drop my axe and rush forwards and attempt to pull the man out of the hole, so that he may receive any treatment we may have.

Volkar Glanral |

Volkar watched as the healer went rushing into the room following Daelric. Kiera had moved up to where he had to peak between her and the door. He could see the legs moving in an odd rhythm.

GM DevilDoc |

At Kieras words, there is a shuffling and a slight squeak that emenates from the closet. Daelric grabs the mans boots and pulls him free from the closet, and a goblin springs out and launches itself across the body at Daelric, slashing with his knife. He misses, and squares off against the party, hissing and spitting. His eyes roll madly, and blood drips off of his chin.

The goblin sets itself, babbling incoherently as it tries again, this time for Andrezi. He manages to leave the cleric a nasty wound across his arm.

Volkar Glanral |

[b]"Watch out," Volkar yelled as the Goblin slashed and hissed at the two men in the room. The goblin's slab of rusted steal cut across Andrezi's arm as the green skin surprised everyone. He thought of pushing into the room, but decided against it. He could stab at the creature if it came towards Kierra and himself.

Andrezi Zeldana |

"Ouch! Nasty little bugger..." Andrezi says, before selectively channeling energy to heal himself and hopefully the downed man.

Andrezi: The man is face down, and you cant see any wounds.. just a bunch of blood.
Volkar holds steady, and Andrezi channels healing power over the party.

Reflex Save : 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
As I am pulling on the man's feet all resistance gives and I start to tumble backwards with the man ending up on top of me. I push the man off of me gently so that he is on the floor, closer to Andrezi. I then grab my weapon from the doorway whilst still on the floor, before standing up to witness the vermin attack on of my new friends. As I am rising I bring my Axe up in hope to connect with it's chin and cleft its head in twaine.
War-Axe Attack : 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
War-Axe Damage : 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
I rush the attack though in my haste and anger.
The Reflex save was purely for more flavour and to make the encounter a bit more desperate, by trying to stay on my feet when pulling the man. The Goblin will get an attack on me for standing up.

GM DevilDoc |

Daelrics swing misses the nimble little goblin, who dives in underneath to strike at the dwarf a second time, but with the same luck. Its eyes roll around in obvious psychosis as it drools and babbles on.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Eh.. I wont penalize you for flavor, especially as I want to encourage that, but picking up a weapon does provoke, so I went ahead with it.

Kiera Videns |

Kiera starts chanting a singsong spell that consists of several short syllables repeated over and over. Instead of building in power, it seems to build in sibilance.
Casting sleep at the enemy; this takes a full round, so it will go off at the start of my turn next round. Will save DC 15 to resist.

GM DevilDoc |

The insane little bugger moves in for the attack again, continuing his assault against Andrezzi.

Seeing the vermin attack Andrezi yet again, I try to slice the critter in half. "You alright Andrezi?"
War-Axe Attack : 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
War-Axe Damage : 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Terrible luck with the attack rolls, but hopefully the Goblin is asleep so the AC will be a lot less.

Kiera Videns |

Kiera completes her sleep spell and guides the drifting motes of enchantment at the goblin.
Time for the goblin to make a DC 15 Will save or fall asleep!
She then draws her dagger and moves back behind Volkar to give him some room.

Volkar Glanral |

Volkar dipped past Kiera and rushed into the room standing over the fallen husband. He lunged at the babbling green skin with his newly acquired spear.

GM DevilDoc |

Will Save: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19
Amazingly, the feral monster shrugs off Kiera's spell and still dodges both attacks against it.
Awaiting Andrezzi

Andrezi Zeldana |

Andrezi winces as the insane goblin claws him again. Rather than try to heal again, Andrezi tries to club the goblin with his staff.

Andrezi Zeldana |

"Bloody Hell, that really hurt!" Andrezi exclaims,as he withdraws from the battle.
Full Round action, withdraw back into the other room

Daelric Morieth |

Seeing this one Goblin manage to evade both of the attacks from myself and Volkar, as well as whatever enchantment Kiera cast I utter a quiet curse. Then as Andrezi gets gutted, I glare at the Goblin and bring my Axe down hoping to slice it in half across the waist. I also look concerned about Andrezi and once my attack has finished I look to the door briefly to make sure that he got outside the room safely.
War-Axe Attack : 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
War-Axe Damage : 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

GM DevilDoc |

Andrezi pulls back from combat, and Daelric gives his ax a mighty swing.. which the goblin just barely manages to evade.
Volkar and Kiera

Volkar Glanral |

"I hate green skins," Volkar muttered under his breath as he lashed out at the gibbering big eared creature it's face a mix of yellowed teeth, green skin and red maul.

Kiera Videns |

"Dodge this!" Kiera shouts, followed by an arcane syllable that transforms into magical force.
Magic missile damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Volkar manages to nick the goblin with his ax, and Kiera blasts it with her wand! The goblin jerks in pain, before turning on Volkar with his knife.

Volkar Glanral |

"Ahhhw,I have had enough of you" Volkar shouted out in pain as the green skin slashed him across the forearms holding the boar spear. He pulled the spear back hard and jammed it forward at the goblin's torso as the throbbing of the new wounds pounded in his head.

Andrezi Zeldana |

Injured himself, and seeing Volkar injured, Andrezi channels the healing energies of his goddess again.

Daelric Morieth |

I sigh and growl slightly at my current misfortune with dispatching this Goblin and try to swing my axe again.
War-Axe Attack : 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
I sigh yet again and shake my head as I seem to have come across the best Goblin fighter in the universe, with the best luck of all.

Volkar Glanral |

Volkar felt a tingle and watched as the wounds on his arms mended themselves. He kept his eyes on the goblin and focused his thoughts on his next attack.
THanks Andrezi! And um, right there with you Daelric!

GM DevilDoc |

Volkar: As I was posting from my phone with my last update and did not pay close enough attention, I forgot you were wielding a spear. You get an AOO for the goblins last attack.
Once again, no one manages to hit the goblin, and it cackles madly and licks the blood off of its blade before lunging for Daelric this time.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Daelric easily avoids the creatures pitiful stab.

Hoping for some good rolls this time! Believe it or not, I actually am rooting for yall!

Kiera launches another blast of conjured acid.

War-Axe Damage : 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 (Total damage 25)
Wow ... so lots of misses and then 2-3 Crits in 1 round! Lets hope that it is still alive for both Volkar and I can get our criticals on it. But I highly doubt it and cannot remember which of us acts first in the initiative order. Still ... ABOUT DAMNED TIME!!!

Andrezi Zeldana |

Andrezi stands, watching on in equal parts admiration and horror as his companions vent their previous frustrations on the goblin.
"Okay guys...I think it's dead."
44 damage in one round...at least I hope that it is dead after that...

GM DevilDoc |

Yes... yes.. I think that just barely managed to do it in.. lol! Great job, yall!
And with an epic finale, the party manages to rally the fight and turn what once was a living creature into nothing more than a horrible, greasy stain dripping from the walls and ceiling!
I'm not even going to try and figure out who did what there.. why let so many awesome rolls go to waste? So, what now?

Kiera Videns |

"Are... are there any more goblins in that hole?" asks Kiera nervously. "Is it too late for the poor man? I know that healing magic can only do so much."

Volkar Glanral |

Volkar turned towards Daelric as he pulled the boar spear out of the remains of the greenskin that war ax and spear brought to an end. Looking at the blood stained blade, he spoke to Daelric in dwarvish, "I believe I will name this Goblin Skewer."
He turned to Andrezi and Kiera and shrugged. "Good lady, I have no idea." Volkar walked to the hole, stepping over human and goblin remains and tried peering into it while keeping Goblinskewer at the ready.

Andrezi Zeldana |

Andrezi moves over to the fallen man, hopeful that he can still do something to help, but in light of his own injuries realizing there is likely little he can do.
"I will see what I can do..." Andrezi says grimly.

GM DevilDoc |

Volkar peers into the bottom of the closet and discovers a small hole dug out of the bottom. From the smell and the detritus, it is obvious the goblin spent several days confined to the small space, and was probably mad from starvation and water deprivation. Putting the story from the mother together with the evidence before you, it seems the goblin may have snuck in during the assault on the town, but then was unable to escape, being penned in the room by a combination of the dog by night and the family moving about the house by day.
Andrezi rolls the body over to discover a horrific sight. The body has a broken goblin knife sticking out of its chest, and its throat and face have been chewed off. There is no life left in the poor body.
By the way, the goblin had 4 hp left when yall blasted it from existence.. that was a damn good finale!

Daelric Morieth |

As I wrench out my axe, I wipe the blood off onto the body of the Goblins clothes, then look to Volkar at the mention of his new name and grin.
I head over to the hole and also look into it, weapon and shield both at the ready.
GM, you ninja'd me! But amazing round, especially after all the bad luck we had with it.
I turn my nose at the smell of the pit before looking to Kiera, "No more in there ..." I stop suddenly when I see the condition of the man, "menknurlan!" I step out of the room and look to the others, "Who shall tell his wife what happened?"

Kiera Videns |

Kiera looks a bit uncertain and says, "I'm... not sure what to say. I'm not so good at that kind of... terrible news. All I know is that this goblin was here for a while and there was no way we could've saved this man." She frowns unhappily.

Andrezi Zeldana |

"There really is no good way to deliver such news, but to be delivered with a much compasion as possible. I will speak with her upon our return to the sheriff's office."
Covering the man's body with a blanket, Andrezi asks Kiera in particular, "Is there an undertaker in this town?"

Kiera Videns |

"Y-yes, Naffer Vosk is the caretaker for the graveyard. He has a twisted back and a bad leg from when his ship wrecked on the coast many years ago. He was taken in and given the job of overseeing the cemetery, which he has taken to with... I would say grace but that seems inappropriate when referring to someone with crippling injuries."

Volkar Glanral |

"Well a proper burial would be a start," Volkar stated as he reached into his pocket. He pulled out a small pouch and shook it. "But, the family is going to need some coin to hold hunger at bay. I would be willing to toss a few gold pieces into the pot for the wife and her bairn. Almost wonder if our noble dandy might be able to rally a means of helping the wife and her lot."

GM DevilDoc |

The party grimly returns to the lane, where quite a crowd has now grown. As you exit the cottage, you see two of the watch huffing and puffing up the street towards you. Pushing through the crowd, they eventually meet up with you at the gate and ask what happened. After a hushed conversation to bring the watch up to speed, one hurries off to wake the Sheriff, and the other guides you back to his office. Shortly after your arrival, the Sheriff comes through the door, grumpy and disheveled. "Well! You lot surely don't seem to waste any time, do you?!" he says. "I have sent over to the Inn for Mrs. Barett, but while we are waiting, please fill me in on what in the name of the gods happened. My man had some story of a raging goblin eating peoples faces off!"

Daelric Morieth |

I silently follow the watch member, trying to hide my shame of not saving the gentleman. Once we get into the station I sit on a chair with a depressed look upon my face and as the Sheriff enters the building I look up, then stand up to attention. At the mention of an explanation I speak up, "If only that wasn't true. By the time we arrived the gentleman was already half in the hole, so we rushed in to pull him free and provide aid. However we were set upon by a Goblin, who was either the best Goblin Fighter in existance or was the luckiest Goblin of all. It took longer than we hoped to dispatch it and afterwards we finally realised what it had been doing to the gentleman. To say his face was being eaten off, is a disgusting but true fact."
I shake my head and pull 7 Golden coins out of my pouch, nodding at Vorik, "For the family."

Volkar Glanral |

Volkar nods along with Daelric's recounting. When his fellow dwarf puts down seven golden crowns, Volkar reaches into his hidden puch and pulls out seven as well. "For the widow and the orphan, it may be worthh having a noble help them with their needs.'

GM DevilDoc |

The Sheriff shakes his head in awe at Daelrics story, then again at the generosity of the towns saviors. "I will make sure that this is given to her. I have given orders that she be taken to a private room when she gets here. If you like, I will break the news to her. I know that she has family in Magnimar, and anticipate that I will be carrying a message with me when we depart in the morn." The man dips his head for a moment, before returning his gaze to the party. "Is there anything more you need this night? It is beyond late, and we should all be early to rise."

Kiera Videns |

"No... If we had gotten here a day ago, perhaps we could have done more, but by the time the good woman sought help, I fear that it was already too late."

Daelric Morieth |

I look up at the Sheriff, sadness filling my voice. "I would like to be there with you, when you break the news. It is our fault that he died, if we had eliminated all of the Goblins that attacked quicker we may have noticed this one splitting away from the group."
I look to Kiera and nod, obviously knowing what she says is true.
